2ὁho[when] the ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἶπενeipensaid αὐτοῖςautois- , ΔοκεῖτεDokeite“ Do you think ὅτιhotithat οἱhoi- ΓαλιλαῖοιGalilaioiGalileans οὗτοιhoutoithese ἁμαρτωλοὶhamartōloisinners παρὰpara[worse] πάνταςpantasthan all τοὺςtousthe ΓαλιλαίουςGalilaious[other] Galileans , ἐγένοντοegenontowere ὅτιhotithat τοιαῦταtoiautasuch things πεπόνθασινpeponthasinthey suffered
3οὐχίouchiNo , λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou . ἀλλ’all’But ἐὰνeanunless μὴmē. . . μετανοῆτεmetanoēteyou repent , πάντεςpantesvvv ὡσαύτωςhōsautōs. . . . ” ἀπολεῖσθεapoleistheyou too will all perish
4ἢēOr ἐκεῖνοιekeinoithose οἱhoi- δέκαdeka[for] eighteen καὶkai. . . ὀκτὼoktō. . . ἐφ’eph’on οὓςhouswho ἔπεσενepesencollapsed ὁho[when] the πύργοςpyrgostower ἐνenof τῷtō- ΣιλωὰμSilōamSiloam καὶkai- ἀπέκτεινενapekteinenwere killed αὐτούςautousthem : δοκεῖτεdokeiteDo you think ὅτιhotithat οὗτοιhoutoithese ὀφειλέταιopheiletaisinful ἐγένοντοegenontowere παρὰparamore πάνταςpantas[than] all τοὺςtousthe ἀνθρώπουςanthrōpous[others] τοὺςtous- κατοικοῦνταςkatoikountasliving ἐνenof ἸερουσαλήμIerousalēmin Jerusalem ?
5οὐχίouchiNo , λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou . ἀλλ’all’But ἐὰνeanunless μὴmē. . . μετανοήσητε,metanoeseteyou repent , πάντεςpantesvvv ὁμοίωςhomoiōs. . . . ἀπολεῖσθεapoleistheyou too will all perish
6ἜλεγενElegen[Jesus] told δὲdeThen ταύτηνtautēnthis τὴνtēn- παραβολήνparabolēnparable : ΣυκῆνSykēna fig tree εἶχένeichenhad τιςtis“ A [man] ἐνenin τῷtō- ἀμπελῶνιampelōnivineyard . αὐτοῦautouhis πεφυτευμένηνpephyteumenēnthat was planted καὶkai- ἔλθῃelthēshould come ζητῶνzētōnto look for καρπὸνkarponfruit ἐνenon αὐτῇautēit , καὶkai[but] οὐχouchvvv εὗρενheurendid not find [any] .
7εἰπὲeipesay δὲdeSo πρὸςprosto τὸνtonthe ἀμπελουργόνampelourgonkeeper of the vineyard , ἸδοὺIdou‘ Look , τρίαtriathree ἔτηetēyears ἔρχομαιerchomaiI have come ζητῶνzētōnto search for καρπὸνkarponfruit ἐνenon τῇtē- συκῇsykēfig tree ταύτῃtautēthis καὶkaiand οὐχouchvvv εὑρίσκωheuriskōhaven’t found [any] . ἔκκοψονekkopsoncut it down αὐτήνautēn. . . ! ἱνατίinatiWhy καὶkai- τὴνtēnthe γῆνgēnsoil ? ’ καταργεῖkatargeishould it use up
8ὉHo- δὲde- ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheis- εἶπενeipenhe said αὐτῷautō- , ΚύριεKyrie‘ Sir , ’ ἄφεςaphes‘ leave it alone αὐτὴνautēn. . . καὶkaiagain τοῦτοtoutothis τὸto- ἔτοςetosyear , ἕωςheōsuntil ὅτουhotouvvv σκάψωskapsōI dig περὶperiaround αὐτὴνautēnit καὶkaiand βάλωbalōvvv κόπριαkopriafertilize [it] .
9κἂνkanIf μὲνmen- ποιήσῃpoiēsēit bears καρπὸνkarponfruit εἰeiif δὲdeBut μήγε,mege[he is unable] , εἰςeisvvv τὸto[next year] , μέλλονmellonfine . ἐκκόψειςekkopseisyou can cut it down αὐτήνautēn. . . . ’”
10ἐνen. . . δὲde[One] διδάσκωνdidaskōnteaching ἐνenin μιᾷmiaone τῶνtōnof the συναγωγῶνsynagōgōnsynagogues , ἐνenin τοῖςtois. . . σάββασι.sabbasiSabbath ? ”
11καὶkaiand ἰδοὺidouthere γυνὴgynēa woman ἐνenin πνεῦμαpneuma[by a] spirit ἔχουσαechousahad been ἀσθενείαςastheneiasdisabled ἔτηetēyears . δέκαdeka[for] eighteen καὶkai. . . ὀκτὼoktō. . . καὶkai. . . ἣνhēnwhom συγκύπτουσαsugkuptousahunched over καὶkai. . . μὴmēnot δυναμένηdynamenēcould ἀνακύψαιanakypsaistand up εἰςeisstraight τὸto. . . παντελέςpanteles. . . .
12ἰδὼνidōnsaw δὲdeWhen αὐτὴνautēnher , ὁho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus προσεφώνησεprosephoneseHe called καὶkaiand εἶπενeipensaid αὐτῇautē- , ΓύναιGynai“ Woman , ἀπολέλυσαιapolelysaiyou are set free τῆςtēs- ἀσθενείαςastheneiasdisability . ” σουsoufrom your
13καὶkaiThen ἐπέθηκενepethēkenHe placed αὐτῇautēon her , τὰςtas[His] χεῖραςcheirashands καὶkaiand παραχρῆμαparachrēmaimmediately ἀνωρθώθηanōrthōthēshe straightened up καὶkaiand ἐδόξαζεedoxazehe gave glory τὸνton- ΘεόνTheonGod .
14ἈποκριθεὶςApokritheis- δὲde- ὁhothe ἀρχισυνάγωγοςarchisynagōgossynagogue leader ἀγανακτῶνaganaktōnwas indignant ὅτιhotithat τῷtōon the σαββάτῳsabbatōSabbath . ἐθεράπευσενetherapeusenhad healed ὁho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἔλεγεelege[Jesus] declared τῷtōon the ὄχλῳochlōcrowd . ἛξHexsix ἡμέραιhēmeraidays εἰσὶνeisin“ There are ἐνenfor αἷςhais. . . δεῖdei. . . ἐργάζεσθαιergazesthaiwork , ” ἐνenfor ταύταιςtautaisthose οὖνoun“ So ἐρχόμενοιerchomenoicome θεραπεύεσθεtherapeuesthe[and] be healed καὶkaiand μὴmēnot τῇtēon the ἡμέρᾳhēmeravvv τοῦtouvvv σαββάτουsabbatouSabbath . ”
15ἈπεκρίθηApekrithēreplied . οὖνoun“ So αὐτῷautō. . . ὁhothe ΚύριοςKyriosLord καὶkai. . . εἶπενeipen. . . ὑποκριτάhypokrita[You] hypocrite ! ἕκαστοςhekastoseach ὑμῶνhymōnof you τῷtōon the σαββάτῳsabbatōSabbath οὐou“ {Does} not λύειlyeiuntie τὸνton- βοῦνbounox αὐτοῦautouhis ἢēor τὸνton- ὄνονonondonkey ἀπὸapofrom τῆςtēsthe φάτνηςphatnēsstall καὶkaiand ἀπαγαγὼνapagagōnlead it ποτίζειpotizeito water ?
16ταύτηνtautēnthis δὲdeThen θυγατέραthygateradaughter ἈβραὰμAbraamof Abraham , οὖσανousanvvv ἣνhēnwhom ἔδησενedēsenhas kept bound ὁho- ΣατανᾶςSatanasSatan ἰδοὺidou[long] δέκαdeka[for] eighteen καὶkai. . . ὀκτὼoktō. . . ἔτηetēyears , οὐκouknot ἔδειedeishould λυθῆναιlythēnaibe released ἀπὸapofrom τοῦtou- δεσμοῦdesmoubondage τούτουtoutou[her] τῇtēon the ἡμέρᾳhēmeraday ? ” τοῦtou- σαββάτουsabbatouSabbath
17ΚαὶKaiWhen ταῦταtautathis , λέγοντοςlegontossaid αὐτοῦautou[Jesus] κατῃσχύνοντοkatēschynontowere humiliated . πάντεςpantesall οἱhoi- ἀντικείμενοιantikeimenoiadversaries αὐτῷautō[His] καὶkaiAnd πᾶςpaswhole ὁhothe ὄχλοςochloscrowd ἔχαιρενechairenrejoiced ἐπὶepiat πᾶσιpasiall τοῖςtoisthe ἐνδόξοιςendoxoisglorious things τοῖςtois- γινομένοιςginomenoisHe was doing ὑπ’hyp’. . . αὐτοῦautou. . . .
18Ἔλεγεelege[Jesus] declared δὲdeThen ΤίνιTini“ What ὁμοίαhomoialike ? ἐστὶνestinIt is ἡhēthe βασιλείαbasileiakingdom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God καὶkai- τίνιtiniTo what ὁμοιώσωhomoiōsōcan I compare αὐτήνautēnit ?
19ὁμοίαhomoialike ἐστὶestiis κόκκῳkokkōvvv σινάπεωςsinapeōsa mustard seed ὃνhonthat λαβὼνlabōnvvv ἄνθρωποςanthrōposa man ἔβαλενebalentossed εἰςeisinto κῆπονkēpongarden . ἑαυτοῦheautouhis καὶkai- ηὔξησεeuxeseIt grew καὶkai- ἐγένετοegenetobecame εἰςeis. . . δένδρονdendrona tree , μέγαmegagreat καὶkaiand τὰtathe πετεινὰpeteinabirds τοῦtouof the οὐρανοῦouranouair κατεσκήνωσενkateskēnōsennested ἐνenin τοῖςtois- κλάδοιςkladoisbranches . ”
20αὐτοῦautouits πάλινpalinAgain εἰπὲeipesay ΤίνιTini“ To what ὁμοιώσωhomoiōsōcan I compare τὴνtēnthe βασιλείανbasileiankingdom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God ?
21ὁμοίαhomoialike ἐστὶestiis ζύμῃzymēleaven ἣνhēnthat λαβοῦσαlabousatook γυνὴgynēa woman ἔκρυψενekrypsen[and] mixed εἰςeisinto ἀλεύρουaleurouof flour , σάταsatameasures τρίαtriathree ἕωςheōsuntil οὗhouof it ἐζυμώθηezymōthēwas leavened . ” ὅλονholonall
22ΚαὶKaiThen διεπορεύετοdieporeueto[Jesus] traveled κατὰkatathroughout πόλειςpoleis[the] towns καὶkaiand κώμαςkōmasvillages , διδάσκωνdidaskōnteaching καὶkai- πορείανporeianHis way ποιούμενοςpoioumenosas He made εἰςeistoward Ἱεροσαλήμ.ierosalemJerusalem .
23εἰπὲeipesay δέde- τιςtissomeone αὐτῷautōHim , ΚύριεKyrie“ Lord , ” εἰei“ [will] ὀλίγοιoligoionly a few οἱhoi[people] σῳζόμενοιsōzomenoibe saved ? ” ὉHo- δὲde- εἰπὲeipesay πρὸςpros- αὐτούςautous- ,
24ἈγωνίζεσθεAgōnizesthe“ Make every effort εἰσελθεῖνeiseltheinto enter διὰdiathrough τῆςtēsthe στενῆςstenēsnarrow πύλης·pulesgate , ὅτιhotiFor πολλοίpolloimany , λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , ζητήσουσινzētēsousinwill try εἰσελθεῖνeiseltheinto enter καὶkaiand οὐκoukvvv ἰσχύσουσινischysousinwill not be able .
25ἀφ’aph’After οὗhou. . . ἂνan. . . ἐγερθῇegerthēgets up ὁhothe οἰκοδεσπότηςoikodespotēsmaster of the house καὶkaiand ἀποκλείσῃapokleisēshuts τὴνtēnthe θύρανthyrandoor , καὶkai- ἄρξησθεarxēstheyou will ἔξωexōoutside ἑστάναιhestanaistand καὶkai- κρούεινkroueinknocking τὴνtēn. . . θύρανthyran. . . λέγοντεςlegontes[and] saying , ΚύριεKyrie‘ Lord , ΚύριεKyrie‘ Lord , ἄνοιξονanoixonopen the door ἡμῖνhēminfor us . ’ ΚαὶKaiBut ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheis- ἐρεῖereihe will reply ὑμῖνhymin. . . , ΟὐκOukvvv οἶδαoida‘ I do not know ὑμᾶςhymasyou πόθενpothenwhere ἐστέesteare {from} . ’
26ΤότεToteThen ἄρξεσθεarxestheyou will λέγεινlegeinsay , ἘφάγομενEphagomen‘ We ate ἐνώπιόνenōpion. . . , σουsouwith you καὶkaiand ἐπίομενepiomendrank καὶkaiand ἐνenin ταῖςtais- πλατείαιςplateiaisstreets . ’ ἡμῶνhēmōnour ἐδίδαξαςedidaxasyou taught
27καὶkaiand ἐρεῖereihe will answer , λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , οὐκoukvvv οἶδαoida‘ I do not know ὑμᾶςhymasyou πόθενpothenwhere ἐστέesteare {from} . ’ ἀπόστητεapostēteDepart ἀπ’ap’from ἐμοῦemoume , πάντεςpantesall [you] οἳhoi. . . ἐργάταιergataievildoers τῆςtēsthe ἀδικίαςadikias. . . . ’
28ἘκεῖEkeiThere ἔσταιestaiwill be ὁho- κλαυθμὸςklauthmosweeping καὶkaiand ὁho- βρυγμὸςbrygmosgnashing τῶνtōnof ὀδόντωνodontōnteeth ὅτανhotanwhen ὄψησθεopsēstheyou see ἈβραὰμAbraamAbraham , καὶkai- ἸσαὰκIsaakIsaac , καὶkai- ἸακὼβIakōbJacob , καὶkaiand πάνταςpantasall τοὺςtousthe προφήταςprophētasprophets ἐνenin τῇtēthe βασιλείᾳbasileiakingdom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God , ὑμᾶςhymasyou yourselves δὲdebut ἐκβαλλομένουςekballomenousare thrown ἔξωexōout .
29καὶkai- ἥξουσινhēxousin[People] will come ἀπὸapofrom ἀνατολῶνanatolōneast καὶkaiand δυσμῶνdysmōnwest καὶkaiand ἀπὸapo- βορρᾶborranorth καὶkaiand νότουnotousouth , καὶkaiand ἀνακλιθήσονταιanaklithēsontaiwill recline at the table ἐνenin τῇtēthe βασιλείᾳbasileiakingdom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God .
30καὶkaiAnd ἰδοὺidouindeed , εἰσὶνeisinsome who are ἔσχατοιeschatoilast οἳhoi. . . ἔσονταιesontaiwill be πρῶτοιprōtoifirst , καὶkaiand εἰσὶeisiare πρῶτοιprōtoifirst , οἳhoi. . . ἔσονταιesontaiwill be ἔσχατοιeschatoilast . ”
31ἘνEnAt αὐτῇautēvery τῇtēthat ἡμέρᾳhēmeraday ? ” προσελθὼνproselthōnHe went up τινεςtinessome ΦαρισαῖοιPharisaioiPharisees λέγοντεςlegontes[and] told αὐτῷautōHim , ἜξελθεExelthe“ Leave καὶkaiand πορεύουporeuouget away , ἐντεῦθενenteuthenthis place ὅτιhotibecause ἩρῴδηςHērōdēsHerod θέλειtheleiwants σεseYou . ” ἀποκτεῖναιapokteinaito kill
32ΚαὶKaiBut εἶπενeipen[Jesus] replied αὐτοῖςautois. . . , ΠορευθέντεςPoreuthentes“ Go εἴπατεeipatetell τῇtē- ἀλώπεκιalōpekifox , ταύτῃtautēthat ἸδοὺIdou‘ Look , ἐκβάλλωekballōI will keep driving out δαιμόνιαdaimoniademons καὶkaiand ἰάσειςiaseishealing [people] ἐπιτελῶepitelovvv σήμερονsēmerontoday καὶkaiand αὔριονauriontomorrow , καὶkaiand τῇtēon the τρίτῃtritēthird [day] τελειοῦμαιteleioumaiI will reach My goal . ’
33πλὴνplēnNevertheless , δεῖdeimust μεmeI σήμερονsēmerontoday καὶkaiand αὔριονauriontomorrow καὶkaiand τῇtēthe ἐχομένῃechomenēnext [day] , πορεύεσθαιporeuesthaikeep going ὅτιhotifor οὐκoukvvv ἐνδέχεταιendechetaiit is not admissible [for] προφήτηνprophētēna prophet ἀπολέσθαιapolesthaito perish ἔξωexōoutside of ἸερουσαλήμIerousalēmJerusalem .
34ἸερουσαλήμIerousalēmJerusalem . ἸερουσαλήμIerousalēmJerusalem . ἡhēwho ἀποκτένουσαapoktenousakills τοὺςtousthe προφήταςprophētasprophets καὶkaiand λιθοβολοῦσαlithobolousastones τοὺςtousthose ἀπεσταλμένουςapestalmenoussent πρὸςprosto αὐτήνautēnher , ποσάκιςposakishow often ἠθέλησαēthelēsaI have longed ἐπισυνάξαιepisynaxaito gather τὰta- τέκναteknachildren {together} σουsouyour ὃνhon. . . τρόπονtroponas ὄρνιςornisa hen [gathers] τὴνtēn- ἑαυτῆςheautēsher νοσσιὰνnossianchicks ὑπὸhypounder [her] τὰςtas- πτέρυγαςpterygaswings , καὶkaibut οὐκoukvvv ἠθελήσατεēthelēsateyou were unwilling !
35ἰδοὺidouLook , ἀφίεταιaphietaiis left to you desolate ὑμῖνhymin. . . . ὁho- οἶκοςoikoshouse ὑμῶνhymōnyour ἔρημος.eremosdesolation λέγωlegōI tell δὲdeAnd ὑμῖνhymin. . . . ὅτιhotifor οὐouvvv μὴmēvvv μὴmēvvv ἴδητέidēteyou will not see ἕωςheōsuntil ἂνan. . . ἥξῃexewill come ὅτεhote. . . εἴπητεeipēteyou say , ΕὐλογημένοςEulogēmenos‘ Blessed is ὁhoHe who ἐρχόμενοςerchomenoscomes ἐνenin ὀνόματιonomati[the] name ΚυρίουKyriouof [the] Lord .’ ”
