1ΜετὰMetalater δὲde[When] πέντεpenteFive ἡμέραςhēmerasdays κατέβηkatebēcame down ὁhothe ἀρχιερεὺςarchiereushigh priest ἉνανίαςHananiasAnanias μετὰmetawith τὸνton- πρεσβυτέρωνpresbyterōnelders καὶkaiand ῥήτοροςrhētoroslawyer ΤερτύλλουTertyllou[named] Tertullus , τινόςtinosa οἵτινεςhoitineswho ἐνεφάνισανenephanisanpresented τῷtōto the ἡγεμόνιhēgemonigovernor κατὰkata{their case} against τοῦtou- ΠαύλουPaulouPaul .
2ΚληθέντοςKlēthentoshad been called in , δὲde[When] αὐτοῦautou[Paul] ἤρξατοērxatoopened κατηγορεῖνkatēgoreinthe prosecution ὁho- ΤέρτυλλοςTertyllosTertullus λέγωνlegōn- :
3ΠολλῆςPollēsa lasting εἰρήνηςeirēnēspeace , τυγχάνοντεςtynchanonteswe have enjoyed διὰdia“ Because of σοῦsouyou , καὶkaiand κατορθωμάτωνkatorthomatonimprovements γινομένωνginomenōnhas brought τῷtō- ἔθνειethneination . τούτῳtoutōto this διὰdia- τῆςtēs- σῆςsēsyour προνοίαςpronoiasforesight πάντῃpantēIn every way τεte- καὶkaiand πανταχοῦpantachoueverywhere , ἀποδεχόμεθαapodechomethawe acknowledge [this] κράτιστεkratistemost excellent ΦῆλιξPhēlixFelix , μετὰmetawith πάσηςpasēsall εὐχαριστίαςeucharistiasgratitude .
4ἵναhinain order δὲdeBut μὴmēvvv ἐπὶepi- πλεῖόνpleionany further , σεse- ἐγκόπτω,egkoptonot to burden παρακαλῶparakalōI beg ἀκοῦσαίakousaito hear σῇsēyour ἡμῶνhēmōnus συντόμωςsyntomōsbriefly . τῇtē- σῇsēyour ἐπιεικείᾳepieikeiaindulgence
5ΕὑρόντεςHeurontesWe have found γὰρgar- τὸνton- ἄνδραandraman [to be] τοῦτονtoutonthis λοιμὸνloimona pestilence , καὶkai- κινοῦνταkinountastirring up στάσινstasininsurrection πᾶσιpasieverything τοῖςtoisthat ἸουδαίοιςIoudaioisJews τοῖςtois- κατὰkataall over τὴνtēnthe οἰκουμένηνoikoumenēnworld . πρωτοστάτηνprōtostatēna ringleader τεte[He is] τῆςtēsof the τῶνtōnof the ΝαζωραίωνNazōraiōnNazarenes , αἱρέσεωςhaireseōssect
6ὃςhos[and he] καὶkaieven τὸtothe ἱερὸνhierontemple ; ἐπείρασεepeirasetried βεβηλῶσαιbebēlōsaito desecrate ὃνhon[him] . καὶkai[so] ἐκρατήσαμενekratēsamenwe seized καὶkai[so] κατὰkataall over τῶνtōnof the ἡμέτερονemeteronof our νόμονnomonLaw ἠθελήσαμενethelesamendesired κρίνεινkrineinjudge
7παρελθὼνparelthōnhe [himself] will come δὲdehowever , ὁho- ΛυσίαςLysiasLysias ὁhothe χιλίαρχοςchiliarchoscommander ΜετὰMetaAfter ΠολλῆςPollēsa lasting βίαςbiaspounding ἘκEkfor τῶνtōnof the χειρῶνcheirōn[their] hands , ἡμῶνhēmōnus ἀπήγαγε,apegage[the soldiers] led Him away
8κελεύσαςkeleusasThen he ordered that τοὺςtous- κατηγόρουςkatēgorousaccusers αὐτοῦautouhis ἔρχεσθαιerchesthaito come ἐπὶepibefore σεseyou . ” παρ’par’- οὗhouhim δυνήσῃdynēsēyou will be able αὐτὸςautosyourself , ἀνακρίναςanakrinasBy examining περὶperiabout πάντωνpantōnall τούτωνtoutōn. . . ἐπιγνῶναιepignōnaito learn [the truth] ὧνhōn- ἡμεῖςhēmeisour κατηγοροῦμενkatēgoroumencharges αὐτοῦautou[against] him . ”
9ΣυνεπέθεντοSynepethentoconcurred , δὲde- καὶkaivvv οἱhoiThe ἸουδαῖοιIoudaioiJews φάσκοντεςphaskontesasserting that ταῦταtautathese [charges] οὕτωςhoutōstrue . ἔχεινecheinwere
10ἈπεκρίθηApekrithēbegan his response : δὲde- ὁho- ΠαῦλοςPaulos[he] νεύσαντοςneusantosmotioned αὐτῷautōfor [Paul] τοῦtouthe ἡγεμόνοςhēgemonosgovernor λέγεινlegeinto speak , ἘκEkfor πολλῶνpollōnmany ἐτῶνetōnyears , ὄνταontahave been σεseyou κριτὴνkritēna judge τῷtōover ἔθνειethneination τούτῳtoutōthis ἐπιστάμενοςepistamenos“ Knowing that εὐθυμότερονeuthumoteron. . . τὰta. . . περὶperi. . . ἐμαυτοῦemautou. . . . ἀπολογοῦμαιapologoumaiI gladly make my defense
11δυναμένουdynamenoucan σουsouYou γνῶναιgnōnai“ The knowledge ὅτιhotithat οὐouno πλείουςpleiousmore than εἰσίeisiare μοιmoi- ἡμέραιhēmeraidays δεκαδύοdekaduotwelve ἀφ’aph’ago ἧςhēs. . . ἀνέβηνanebēnI went up προσκυνήσωνproskynēsōnto worship . εἰςeisto ἸερουσαλήμIerousalēmJerusalem
12καὶkaiYet οὔτεoute- ἐνenin τῷtōthe ἱερῷhierōtemple εὗρόνheuron[my accusers] did not find μεmeme πρόςproswith τιναtinaanyone διαλεγόμενονdialegomenondebating ἢēor ἐπισύστασινepisustasin. . . ποιοῦνταpoiountariling up ὄχλουochloua crowd οὔτεoute[or] ἐνenin ταῖςtaisthe συναγωγαῖςsynagōgaissynagogues οὔτεoute[or] κατὰkatain τὴνtēnthe πόλινpolincity .
13οὔτεoute[or] παραστῆσαιparastēsaiprove δύνανταίdynantaican they περὶperi[any of] ὧνhōnvvv νῦνnynnow . κατηγοροῦσίkategorousithey are bringing against μουmouin me
14ὉμολογῶHomologōI do confess δὲdehowever , τοῦτόtouto- σοιsoito you , ὅτιhotithat κατὰkataaccording to τὴνtēnthe ὉδὸνHodonWay , ἣνhēnwhich λέγουσινlegousinthey call αἵρεσινhairesina sect . οὕτωhoutōso λατρεύωlatreuōI worship τῷtōthe πατρῴῳpatrōōof our fathers ΘεῷTheōGod πιστεύωνpisteuōnI believe πᾶσιpasieverything τοῖςtoisthat κατὰkatais laid down τὸνtonby the νόμονnomonLaw καὶkaiand τοῖςtois- ἐνenin τοῖςtoisthe προφήταιςprophētaisProphets , γεγραμμένοιςgegrammenoiswritten
15ἐλπίδαelpidahope ἔχωνechōn[and] I have εἰςeisin τὸνton- ΘεόνTheonGod ἣνhēnthat καὶkai[the same] αὐτοὶautoithey οὗτοιhoutoithemselves προσδέχονταιprosdechontaicherish , ἀνάστασινanastasina resurrection μέλλεινmellein[that] there will ἔσεσθαιesesthaibe νεκρῶνnekrōnof [the] dead δικαίωνdikaiōn[the] righteous τεteof both καὶkaiand ἀδίκωνadikōn[the] wicked .
16ἐνenIn τούτῳtoutōthis [hope] , δὲdethen , καὶkaiand αὐτὸςautosI ἀσκῶaskōstrive ἀπρόσκοπονaproskopona clear συνείδησινsyneidēsinconscience ἔχεινecheinto maintain πρὸςprosbefore τὸνton- ΘεὸνTheonGod καὶkaiand τοὺςtous- ἀνθρώπουςanthrōpousman . διὰdiaalways παντόςpantos. . .
17Δι’Di’After ἐτῶνetōnyears , δὲdethen , πλειόνωνpleionōnseveral παρεγενόμηνparegenomēnI returned [ to Jerusalem ] ἐλεημοσύναςeleēmosynasalms ποιήσωνpoiēsōnto bring εἰςeisto τὸto- ἔθνοςethnospeople μουmoumy καὶkaiand προσφοράςprosphorasto present offerings .
18ἐνenAt αἷςhaisthe time εὗρόνheuronthey found μεmeme ἡγνισμένονhēgnismenonI was ceremonially clean ἐνenin τῷtōthe ἱερῷhierōtemple , οὐouvvv μετὰmeta[and] was not {inciting} ὄχλουochlou[a] crowd οὐδὲoude[or] μετὰmetavvv θορύβουthorybouan uproar . τινὲςtinessome ἀπὸapofrom τῆςtēs- ἈσίαςAsias[the province of] Asia ἸουδαῖοιIoudaioiJews
19οὓςhouswho ἔδειedeiought ἐπὶepibefore σοῦsouyou παρεῖναιpareinaito appear καὶkaiand κατηγορεῖνkatēgoreinbring charges , εἴeiif τιtianything ἔχοιενechoienthey have πρὸςprosagainst μεmeme
20ἢēOtherwise αὐτοὶautoifor themselves οὗτοιhoutoi. . . , εἰπάτωσανeipatōsanlet [these men] state τίtiany εὗρονheuronthey found ἐνenin ἐμοὶemoi[want] with me , ἀδίκημαadikēmacrime στάντοςstantoswhen I stood μουmouin me ἐπὶepibefore τοῦtouthe συνεδρίουsynedriouSanhedrin ,
21ἢēunless [it was] περὶperi. . . μιᾶςmiasone ταύτηςtautēsthis φωνῆςphōnēs- ἧςhēsthing ἔκραξαekraxathey shouted ἑστὼςhestōsas I stood ἐνenin αὐτοῖςautoistheir [presence] ὅτιhoti- : ΠερὶPeri‘ [It is] concerning ἀναστάσεωςanastaseōs[the] resurrection νεκρῶνnekrōnof [the] dead ἐγὼegō[that] I κρίνομαιkrinomaiam on trial σήμερονsēmerontoday . ’” ἐφ’eph’before ὑμῶνhymōnyou
22ἀκούσαςakousashears [My words] δὲdeThen ταῦταtautathese [charges] ὁho- ΦῆλιξPhēlixFelix , ἈνεβάλετοAnebaletoadjourned the hearing αὐτοὺςautous. . . ἀκριβέστερονakribesteronvvv εἰδὼςeidōswho was well informed τὰta- περὶperiabout τῆςtēsthe ὉδοῦHodouWay , εἰπὼνeipōnHe said ὍτανHotan“ When ΛυσίαςLysiasLysias ὁhothe χιλίαρχοςchiliarchoscommander καταβῇkatabēcomes , διαγνώσομαιdiagnōsomaiI will decide τὰtavvv καθ’kath’vvv ὑμᾶςhymasyour case . ”
23διαταξάμενοςdiataxamenosHe ordered τεte[but] τῷtōthe ἑκατοντάρχῃhekatontarchēcenturion τηρεῖσθαιtēreisthaito keep [Paul] under guard τῶνtōn- ΠαῦλονPaulonPaul ἔχεινecheinto allow him τεte[but] ἄνεσινanesinsome freedom καὶkaiand μηδέναmēdenavvv κωλύεινkōlyeinpermit τῶνtōn- ἰδίωνidiōn[friends] αὐτοῦautouhis ὑπηρετεῖνhypēreteinto minister ἢēunless [it was] προσέρχεσθαιproserchesthaivisit [him] . αὐτῷautōto his [needs] .
24ΜετὰMetaAfter δὲdevvv ἡμέραςhēmerasdays , τινὰςtinasseveral παραγενόμενοςparagenomenosreturned ὁho- ΦῆλιξPhēlixFelix σὺνsynwith ΔρουσίλλῃDrousillēDrusilla , τῇtē- γυναικὶgynaikiwife αὐτοῦautouhim οὔσῃousēwho was ἸουδαίᾳIoudaiaa Jewess . μετεπέμψατοmetepempsatoHe sent for τὸνton- ΠαῦλονPaulonPaul καὶkaiand ἤκουσενēkousenlistened to αὐτοῦautouhim περὶperi[speak] about τῆςtēs- εἰςeisin ΧριστὸνChristonChrist πίστεωςpisteōsfaith
25διαλεγομένουdialegomenouexpounded δὲde[As] αὐτοῦautou[Paul] περὶperion δικαιοσύνηςdikaiosynēsrighteousness , καὶkai- ἐγκρατείαςenkrateiasself-control , καὶkaiand τοῦtouthe κρίματοςkrimatosjudgment , τοῦtou- μέλλοντοςmellontoscoming ἔσεσθαιesesthaibe ἔμφοβοςemphobosfrightened γενόμενοςgenomenosbecame ὁho- ΦῆλιξPhēlixFelix ἀπεκρίθηapekrithē[and] said , ΤὸTofor νῦνnynnow . ἔχονechon. . . πορεύουporeuou“ You may go καιρὸνkaironthe time , δὲde[When] μεταλαβὼνmetalabōnI find μετακαλέσομαίmetakalesomaiI will call for σεseyou . ”
26ἅμαhamaAt the same time δὲde[When] καὶkai. . . , ἐλπίζωνelpizōnhe was hoping ὅτιhotithat χρήματαchrēmataa bribe . δοθήσεταιdothēsetaiwould offer αὐτῷautōhim ὑπὸhypo- τοῦtou- ΠαύλουPaulouPaul ὅπωςhopōs- λύσῃlysēbreaks αὐτὸνauton[Paul] διὸdioSo καὶkai- πυκνότερονpyknoteronfrequently αὐτὸνauton[Paul] μεταπεμπόμενοςmetapempomenoshe sent for ὡμίλειhōmilei[and] talked αὐτῷautōwith him .
27ΔιετίαςDietiastwo years δὲde[After] πληρωθείσηςplērōtheisēshad passed , ἔλαβεelabevvv διάδοχονdiadochonwas succeeded by ὁho- ΦῆλιξPhēlixFelix ΠόρκιονPorkionPorcius ΦῆστονPhēstonFestus . θέλωνthelōnwishing δὲde[After] χάρινcharinfavor καταθέσθαιkatathesthaito do the Jews a favor τοῖςtois. . . ἸουδαίοιςIoudaiois. . . , ὁho- ΦῆλιξPhēlixFelix κατέλιπεkatelipeleft τὸνton- ΠαῦλονPaulonPaul δεδεμένονdedemenonin prison .
