2εὗρονheuronthey did not find δὲdebut τὸνtonthe λίθονlithonstone ἀποκεκυλισμένονapokekylismenonrolled away ἀπὸapofrom τοῦtouthe μνημείουmnēmeioutomb ,
3καὶkaivvv εἰσελθοῦσαιeiselthousaiwhen they entered , οὐχouchvvv εὗρονheuronthey did not find τὸtothe σῶμαsōmabody τοῦtouof the ΚυρίουKyriouLord ἸησοῦIēsouJesus .
4καὶkaivvv ἐγένετοegenetovvv ἐνenWhile τῷtō- διαπορεῖσθαιdiaporeisthaiwere puzzling αὐτὰςautasthey περὶperiover τούτουtoutouthis , καὶkai- ἰδοὺidousuddenly ἄνδρεςandresmen δύοdyotwo ἐπέστησανepestēsanstood beside αὐταῖςautaisthem . ἐνenin ἐσθήτεσινesthetesinapparel ἀστραπτούσαις.astraptousaisradiant
5ἐμφόβωνemphobōnin terror , δὲdeAs γενομένωνgenomenōnvvv καὶkai- κλινουσῶνklinousōnbowed τῷtō- πρόσωπονprosōpon. . . εἰςeisto τὴνtēnthe γῆνgēnground εἶπονeiponhad described . πρὸςprosto αὐτάςautasthem , ΤίTi“ Why ζητεῖτεzēteitedo you look for τὸνtonthe ζῶνταzōntaliving μετὰmetaamong τῶνtōnthe νεκρῶνnekrōndead ?
6οὐκouknot ἔστινestinHe is ὧδεhōdehere ; ἀλλ’all’Instead , ἠγέρθηēgerthēHe has risen ! μνήσθητεmnēsthēteRemember ὡςhōshow ἐλάλησενelalēsenHe told ὑμῖνhyminyou ἔτιetistill ὢνōnwhile He was ἐνenin τῇtē- ΓαλιλαίᾳGalilaiaGalilee : λέγωνlegōn- ὅτιhoti-
7δεῖdeimust ΤὸνTon‘ The ΥἱὸνHuionSon τοῦtou- ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouof Man παραδοθῆναιparadothēnaibe delivered εἰςeisinto χεῖραςcheiras[the] hands ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnmen , ἁμαρτωλῶνhamartōlōnof sinful καὶkaiand σταυρωθῆναιstaurōthēnaibe crucified , καὶkaiand τῇtēon the τρίτῃtritēthird ἡμέρᾳhēmeraday ἀναστῆναιanastēnairise again . ’ ”
9ΚαὶKaiThen ὑποστρέψασαιhypostrepsasaiwhen they returned ἀπὸapofrom τοῦtouthe μνημείουmnēmeioutomb , ἀπήγγειλανapēngeilanthey reported ταῦταtautathese things πάνταpantaall τοῖςtoisto the ἕνδεκαhendekaEleven καὶkaiand πᾶσιpasiall τοῖςtoisthe λοιποῖςloipoisothers .
10ἦσανēsanIt was δὲde- ἡhē- ΜαγδαληνὴMagdalēnēMagdalene , ΜαρίαMariaMary καὶkai- ἸωάνναIōannaJoanna , καὶkai- ΜαρίαMariaMary ἸακώβουIakōbouof James , καὶkaiand αἱhaithe λοιπαὶloipaiother women σὺνsynwith αὐταῖςautaisthem αἱhaithe ἔλεγονelegon[who] told πρὸςprosto τοὺςtousthe ἀποστόλουςapostolousapostles . ταῦταtautatheir
11καὶkaiBut ἐφάνησανephanēsanseemed ἐνώπιονenōpionto αὐτῶνautōnthem , ὡσεὶhōseilike λῆροςlērosnonsense τὰta- ῥήματαrhēmatawords αὐτῶνautōnthem , καὶkaiand ἠπίστουνēpistounthey did not believe αὐταῖςautais[the women] .
12ὉHo- δὲdehowever , ΠέτροςPetrosPeter , ἀναστὰςanastasgot up ἔδραμενedramen[and] ran ἐπὶepito τὸtothe μνημεῖονmnēmeiontomb . καὶkaiAnd [after] παρακύψαςparakypsasbending down βλέπειblepei[and] seeing τὰtathe ὀθόνιαothonialinen cloths , κείμεναkeimenalaid up μόναmonaonly καὶkai- ἀπῆλθεapelthehe returned πρὸςprosto ἑαυτὸνheautonhimself θαυμάζωνthaumazōnwondering τὸtowhat γεγονόςgegonoshad happened .
13ΚαὶKaivvv ἰδοὺidouvvv δύοdyotwo ἐξexof αὐτῶνautōnthem ἦσανēsanwere πορευόμενοιporeuomenoigoing ἐνenvvv αὐτῇautēsame τῇtēThat ἡμέρᾳhēmeraday εἰςeisto κώμηνkōmēna village ἀπέχουσανapechousan. . . σταδίουςstadious. . . ἑξήκονταhexēkontaabout seven miles ἀπὸapofrom ἸερουσαλήμIerousalēmJerusalem . ᾗhēvvv ὄνομαonomacalled ἘμμαοῦςEmmaousEmmaus ,
14καὶkai- αὐτοὶautoiThey ὡμίλουνhōmilounwere talking πρὸςproswith ἀλλήλουςallēlouseach other περὶperiabout πάντωνpantōneverything τῶνtōnthat συμβεβηκότωνsymbebēkotōnhad happened . τούτωνtoutōn. . .
15καὶkaiAnd ἐγένετοegenetoas ἐνen- τῷtō- ὁμιλεῖνhomileintalked αὐτοὺςautousthey καὶkaiand συζητεῖνsyzēteindeliberated , καὶkai- αὐτὸςautosHimself ὉHo- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἐγγίσαςengisascame up συνεπορεύετοsyneporeueto[and] walked along αὐτοῖςautoiswith them .
16οἱhoi- δὲdeBut ὀφθαλμοὶophthalmoieyes αὐτῶνautōntheir ἐκρατοῦντοekratountowere kept τοῦtou- μὴmē. . . ἐπιγνῶναιepignōnaifrom recognizing αὐτόνautonHim .
17εἰπὲeipesay δὲde- πρὸςpros- αὐτούςautousthem , ΤίνεςTines“ What οἱhoivvv λόγοιlogoivvv οὗτοιhoutoivvv οὓςhousvvv ἀντιβάλλετεantiballeteare you discussing so intently πρὸςpros. . . ἀλλήλουςallēlous. . . περιπατοῦντεςperipatountesas you walk along ? ” ΚαὶKai- ἔστηestēstood σκυθρωποίskythrōpoiwith sadness on their faces .
18ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisasked δὲde- ὁhothe [One who] εἰςeisto ὁhothe [One who] ὄνομαonomacalled ΚλεοπᾶςKleopasCleopas , εἰπὲeipesay πρὸςpros. . . αὐτόνautonHim , ΣὺSy“ {Are} You μόνοςmonosthe only παροικεῖςparoikeisvisitor ἐνenvvv ἸερουσαλὴμIerousalēmto Jerusalem καὶkai[who] οὐκouk{does} not ἔγνωςegnōsknow τὰtathe things γενόμεναgenomenathat have happened ἐνenvvv αὐτῇautē[there] ἐνenin ταῖςtais- ἡμέραιςhēmeraisdays ? ” ταύταιςtautaisrecent
19ΚαὶKai- εἶπενeipenHe asked αὐτοῖςautois- . ΠοῖαPoia“ What things ? ” οἱhoi- ΔὲDe- εἶπονeiponhad described . αὐτῷautō- . ΤὰTa“ The events περὶperiinvolving ἸησοῦIēsouJesus τοῦtouof Ναζωραίου,nazoraiouNazareth , ” ὃςhos- ἐγένετοegenetowas ἀνὴρanēr“ [This] man προφήτηςprophētēsa prophet , δυνατὸςdynatospowerful ἐνenin ἔργῳergōaction καὶkaiand λόγῳlogōspeech ἐναντίονenantionbefore τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouGod καὶkaiand παντὸςpantosall τοῦtouthe λαοῦlaoupeople .
20ὅπωςhopōs- τεte- παρέδωκανparedōkandelivered Him up αὐτὸνauton. . . οἱhoi- ἀρχιερεῖςarchiereischief priests καὶkaiand οἱhoi- ἄρχοντεςarchontesrulers ἡμῶνhēmōn- εἰςeisto κρίμαkrima[the] sentence θανάτουthanatouof death , καὶkaiand ἐσταύρωσανestaurōsanthey crucified αὐτόνautonHim .
21ἡμεῖςhēmeiswe δὲdeBut ἠλπίζομενēlpizomenwere hoping ὅτιhoti- αὐτόςautosHe ἐστινestinwas ὁhothe [One who] μέλλωνmellōnwould λυτροῦσθαιlytrousthairedeem τὸνton- ἸσραήλIsraēlIsrael . ἀλλάalla- γεgebesides σὺνsyn- πᾶσιpasiall τούτοιςtoutois[this] , τρίτηνtritēn[the] third ταύτηνtautēn[it] ἡμέρανhēmeranday ἄγειageiis σήμερονsēmerontoday ἀφ’aph’since οὗhou. . . ταῦταtautathese things ἐγένετοegenetotook place .
22ἈλλὰAllaFurthermore καὶkai- , γυναῖκέςgynaikeswomen τινεςtinessome ἐξexof ἡμῶνhēmōnour ἐξέστησανexestēsanastounded ἡμᾶςhēmasus . γενόμεναιgenomenaiThey were ὄρθριαιorthriaiearly this morning , ἐπὶepiat τὸtothe μνημεῖονmnēmeiontomb
23καὶkaibut μὴmēvvv εὑροῦσαιheurousaithey did not find τὸto- σῶμαsōmabody . αὐτοῦautouHis ἦλθονēlthonThey came λέγουσαιlegousai[and] told [us] καὶkai- ὀπτασίανoptasiana vision ἀγγέλωνangelōnof angels , ἑωρακέναιheōrakenaithey had seen οἳhoiwho λέγουσινlegousinsaid that αὐτὸνauton[Jesus] ζῆνzēnwas alive .
24καὶkaiThen ἀπῆλθόνapēlthonwent τινεςtinessome τῶνtōnof our companions σὺνsyn. . . ἡμῖνhēmin. . . ἐπὶepito τὸtothe μνημεῖονmnēmeiontomb καὶkaiand εὗρονheuronfound [it] οὕτωouto[this] καθὼςkathōsas καὶkai- αἱhaithe γυναῖκεςgynaikeswomen εἶπονeiponhad described . αὐτὸνautonHim δὲdeBut οὐκoukvvv εἶδονeidonthey did not see . ”
25ΚαὶKaiThen αὐτὸςautos[Jesus] εἰπὲeipesay πρὸςprosto αὐτούςautousthem , ὮŌ“ O ἀνόητοιanoētoifoolish [ones] , καὶkai- βραδεῖςbradeis[how] slow τῇtē- καρδίᾳkardiaare your hearts τοῦtou- πιστεύεινpisteueinto believe ἐπὶepi- πᾶσινpasinall οἷςhoisthat ἐλάλησανelalēsanhave spoken ! οἱhoithe προφῆταιprophētaiprophets
26οὐχὶouchivvv ταῦταtautathese things ἔδειedeiWas it not necessary for παθεῖνpatheinto suffer τὸνtonthe ΧριστὸνChristonChrist καὶkaiand then εἰσελθεῖνeiseltheinto enter εἰςeis. . . τὴνtēn- δόξανdoxanglory ? ” αὐτοῦautouHis
27καὶkaiAnd ἀρξάμενοςarxamenosbeginning ἀπὸapowith ΜωϋσέωςMōuseōsMoses καὶkaiand ἀπὸapo- πάντωνpantōnall τῶνtōnthe προφητῶνprophētōnProphets , διερμήνευσενdiermēneusenHe explained αὐτοῖςautoisto them ἐνenin πάσαιςpasaisall ταῖςtaisthe γραφαῖςgraphaisScriptures τὰtawhat [ was written ] περὶperiabout ἑαυτοῦheautouHimself .
28ΚαὶKaiAs ἤγγισανēngisanthey approached εἰςeis. . . τὴνtēnthe κώμηνkōmēnvillage οὗhouwhere ἐπορεύοντοeporeuontothey were headed , καὶkai- αὐτὸςautosHe προσεποιεῖτοprosepoieitoseemed πορρωτέρωporroterofarther . πορεύεσθαιporeuesthaito be going
29καὶkaiBut παρεβιάσαντοparebiasantothey pleaded with Him αὐτὸνauton. . . λέγοντεςlegontes. . . , ΜεῖνονMeinon“ Stay μεθ’meth’with ἡμῶνhēmōnus , ὅτιhotifor πρὸςprosnearly ἑσπέρανhesperanevening ἐστὶestiis καὶkaiand κέκλικενkeklikenis almost over . ” ἡhēthe ἡμέραhēmeraday ΚαὶKaiSo εἰσέλθῃeiselthēwill never enter τοῦtou- μεῖναιmeinaito stay σὺνsynwith αὐτοῖςautoisthem .
30καὶkaiWhile ἐγένετοegeneto. . . ἐνen. . . τῷtō- κατακλιθῆναιkataklithēnaiwas reclining [at the table] αὐτῶνautōnthem , μετ’met’with αὐτῶνautōnthem , λαβὼνlabōnHe took τὸνton- ἄρτονartonbread , εὐλόγησε,eulogese[Jesus] spoke a blessing καὶkaiand κλάσαςklasasbroke [it] , ἐπεδίδουepedidou[and] gave [it] αὐτοῖςautoisto them .
31αὐτῶνautōntheir δὲdeThen διηνοίχθησανdiēnoichthēsanwere opened οἱhoi- ὀφθαλμοὶophthalmoieyes καὶkaiand ἐπέγνωσανepegnōsanthey recognized αὐτόνauton[Jesus] — καὶkaiand αὐτὸςautosHe ἄφαντοςaphantosdisappeared ἐγένετοegenetovvv ἀπ’ap’from αὐτῶνautōn[their sight] .
32ΚαὶKai- εἶπονeiponhad described . πρὸςprosto ἀλλήλουςallēlouseach other , ΟὐχὶOuchinot ἡhē- καρδίαkardiahearts ἡμῶνhēmōnour καιομένηkaiomenēburning ἐνenwithin ἐνenwithin ἡμῖνhēminus ὡςhōsas ἐλάλειelaleiHe spoke ἡμῖνhēminwith us ἐνenon τῇtēthe ὁδῷhodōroad ΚαὶKaiAnd ὡςhōs[and] διήνοιγενdiēnoigenopened ἡμῖνhēminto us ? ” τὰςtasthe γραφάςgraphasScriptures
33ΚαὶKaiAnd ἀναστάντεςanastantesthey got up αὐτῇautē[that] very τῇtē- ὥρᾳhōrahour ὑπέστρεψανhypestrepsan[and] returned εἰςeisto ἸερουσαλήμIerousalēmJerusalem . καὶkai[There] εὗρονheuronthey found συνηθροισμένουςsunethroismenousgathered together τοὺςtousthe ἕνδεκαhendekaEleven καὶkaiand τοὺςtousthose σὺνsynwith αὐτοῖςautoisthem ,
34λέγονταςlegontas[and] saying ὅτιhoti- , ἠγέρθηēgerthēhas indeed risen ὁho“ The ΚύριοςKyriosLord ὌντωςOntōsvvv καὶkaiand ὤφθηōphthēhas appeared ΣίμωνιSimōnito Simon ! ”
35ΚαὶKaiThen αὐτοὶautoi[the two] ἐξηγοῦντοexēgountotold τὰtawhat had happened ἐνenon τῇtēthe ὁδῷhodōroad , καὶkaiand ὡςhōshow ἐγνώσθηegnōsthēhad recognized [Jesus] αὐτοῖςautoisthey ἐνenin τῇtēthe κλάσειklaseibreaking τοῦtouof the ἄρτουartoubread .
36ΤαῦταTautathese [events] , δὲdeWhile αὐτῶνautōnthey λαλούντωνlalountōnwere describing αὐτὸςautos[Jesus] Himself ὁho“ The ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἔστηestēstood ἐνenvvv μέσῳmesōamong αὐτῶνautōnthem καὶkaiand λέγειlegeisaid αὐτοῖςautois. . . , ΕἰρήνηEirēnē“ Peace [be] ὑμῖνhyminwith you . ”
37πτοηθέντεςptoēthentesthey were startled δὲdeBut καὶkaiand ἔμφοβοιemphoboifrightened , γενόμενοιgenomenoivvv ἐδόκουνedokounthinking πνεῦμαpneumaa spirit . θεωρεῖνtheōreinthey had seen
38καὶkaiand εἶπενeipen[Jesus] asked αὐτοῖςautois. . . , τίti. . . τεταραγμένοιtetaragmenoitroubled , ” ἐστέesteare you ΚαὶKai- διατίdiatiwhy διαλογισμοὶdialogismoi{do} doubts ἀναβαίνουσινanabainousinarise ἐνenin ταῖςtaisthe καρδίαιςkardiaishearts ? ὑμῶνhymōnyour
39ἴδετεideteLook at τὰςtas- χεῖράςcheirashands μουmouMy καὶkaiand τοὺςtous- πόδαςpodasfeet . μουmouMy ὅτιhoti- αὐτόςautosMyself . ἐγώegōI εἰμιeimiIt is ψηλαφήσατέpsēlaphēsateTouch μεmeMe καὶkaiand ἴδετεidetesee — ὅτιhotifor πνεῦμαpneumaa spirit σάρκαsarkaflesh καὶkaiand ὀστέαosteabones , οὐκouk{does} not ἔχειecheihave καθὼςkathōsas ἐμὲemeI θεωρεῖτεtheōreiteyou see ἔχονταechontahave . ”
40καὶkaiAnd [when] τοῦτοtoutothis , εἰπὼνeipōnHe had said ἐπέδειξενepedeixenHe showed αὐτοῖςautoisthem τὰςtas[His] χεῖραςcheirashands καὶkaiand τοὺςtous- πόδαςpodasfeet .
41ἜτιEtivvv δὲdeWhile ἀπιστούντωνapistountōnwere still in disbelief αὐτῶνautōnthey ἀπὸapobecause of τῆςtēs[their] χαρᾶςcharasjoy καὶkaiand θαυμαζόντωνthaumazontōnamazement , εἶπενeipenHe asked αὐτοῖςautoisthem , ἜχετέEchete“ Do you have τιtianything βρώσιμονbrōsimonto eat ? ” ἐνθάδεenthadehere
42οἱhoi- δὲdeSo ἐπέδωκανepedōkanthey gave αὐτῷautōHim ἰχθύοςichthyosfish , ὀπτοῦoptouof broiled μέροςmerosa piece καὶkaiand ἀπὸapobecause of μελισσίουmelisiouhoneycomb κηρίουkiríouwax
43καὶkaiand λαβὼνlabōnHe took [it] ἐνώπιονenōpionin front of αὐτῶνautōnthem . ἔφαγενephagen[and] ate [it]
44εἰπὲeipesay δὲde- αὐτοῖςautoisthem , ΟὗτοιHoutoi“ These [are] οἱhoithe λόγοιlogoiwords οὓςhous- ἐλάλησαelalēsaI spoke πρὸςprosto ὑμᾶςhymasyou ἔτιetistill ὢνōnwhile I was σὺνsynwith ὑμῖνhyminyou ὅτιhoti- : δεῖdeimust πληρωθῆναιplērōthēnaibe fulfilled πάνταpantaEverything τὰtathat [is] γεγραμμέναgegrammenawritten ἐνenin τῷtōthe νόμῳnomōLaw ΜωϋσέωςMōuseōsof Moses , καὶkai- προφήταιςprophētaisProphets , καὶkaiand ψαλμοῖςpsalmois[the] Psalms . ” περὶperiabout ἐμοῦemouMe
45τότεtoteThen διήνοιξενdiēnoixenHe opened αὐτῶνautōntheir τὸνton- νοῦνnounminds τοῦtou- συνιέναιsynienaito understand τὰςtasthe γραφάςgraphasScriptures .
46ΚαὶKaiAnd εἶπενeipenHe told αὐτοῖςautoisthem , ὅτιhoti- Οὕτωouto[this] γέγραπταιgegraptai[what] is written : καὶkaiand ΟὕτωςHoutōs“ This [is] ἔδειedeiWas it not necessary for παθεῖνpatheinto suffer τὸνtonthe ΧριστὸνChristonChrist καὶkaiand then ἀναστῆναιanastēnairise ἐκekfrom νεκρῶνnekrōn[the] dead τῇtē[on] the τρίτῃtritēthird ἡμέρᾳhēmeraday ,
47καὶkaiand κηρυχθῆναιkērychthēnaiwill be proclaimed ἐπὶepiin τῷtō- ὀνόματιonomatiname αὐτοῦautouHis μετάνοιανmetanoianrepentance καὶkaiand ἄφεσινaphesinforgiveness ἁμαρτιῶνhamartiōnof sins εἰςeisto πάνταpantaall τὰta- ἔθνηethnēnations , ἀρξάμενονarxamenonbeginning ἀπὸapoin ἸερουσαλήμIerousalēmJerusalem . ὑμεῖςhymeisYou
49ΚαὶKaiAnd ἰδοὺidoubehold , ἐγὼegōI ἀποστέλλωapostellōI will send τὴνtēnthe ἐπαγγελίανepangelianpromise τοῦtouof ΠατρόςPatrosFather μουmouMy ἐφ’eph’upon ὑμᾶςhymasyou . ὑμεῖςhymeisvvv δὲdeBut καθίσατεkathisateremain ἐνenin τῇtēthe πόλειpoleicity ἸερουσαλήμIerousalēmJerusalem . ἕωςheōsuntil οὗhou- ἐνδύσησθεendysēstheyou have been clothed with δύναμινdynaminpower ἐξexfrom ὕψουςhypsouson high . ”
50Ἐξήγαγεexegage[Jesus] had led δὲde[When] αὐτοὺςautousthem [ἔξω]exōout ἕωςheōsas far as εἰςeisinto ΒηθανίανBēthanianBethany , καὶkai- ἐπάραςeparasHe lifted up τὰςtas- χεῖραςcheirashands αὐτοῦautouHis εὐλόγησενeulogēsen[and] blessed αὐτούςautousthem .
51καὶkaiWhile ἐγένετοegeneto. . . ἐνen. . . τῷtō- εὐλογεῖνeulogeinwas blessing αὐτὸνautonHe αὐτοὺςautousthem , διέστηdiestēHe left ἀπ’ap’. . . αὐτῶνautōnthem καὶkaiand ἀνεφέρετοanepheretowas carried up εἰςeisinto τὸνton- οὐρανόνouranonheaven .
52καὶkaiAnd αὐτοὶautoithey προσκυνήσαντες*proskynēsantesworshiped αὐτὸνautonHim ὑπέστρεψανhypestrepsan[and] returned εἰςeisto ἸερουσαλὴμIerousalēmJerusalem μετὰmetawith χαρᾶςcharasjoy , μεγάληςmegalēsgreat
53καὶkai- ἦσανēsanvvv διὰdiacontinually παντὸςpantos. . . ἐνenin τῷtōthe ἱερῷhierōtemple . αἰνοῦντεςainountespraising καὶkai- εὐλογοῦντεςeulogountespraising τὸνton- ΘεόνTheonGod ἀμὴνamēnTruly
