2διατίdiatiwhy οἱhoi- μαθηταίmathētaidisciples σουsouYour παραβαίνουσιparabainousibreak τὴνtēnthe παράδοσινparadosintradition τῶνtōnof the πρεσβυτέρωνpresbyterōnelders ? οὐouvvv γὰρgar- νίπτονταιniptontaiThey do not wash τὰςtas- χεῖραςcheirashands ‹αὐτῶν›autōntheir ὅτανhotanbefore ἄρτονarton. . . . ” ἐσθίωσινesthiōsinthey eat
3ὉHo- δὲde- ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheis[Jesus] replied εἶπενeipen. . . αὐτοῖςautois. . . , διατίdiatiwhy καὶkai“ And ὑμεῖςhymeis{do} you παραβαίνετεparabainetebreak τὴνtēnthe ἐντολὴνentolēncommand τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God διὰdiafor the sake of τὴνtēn- παράδοσινparadosintradition ? ὑμῶνhymōnyour
4ὁho- γὰρgarFor ΘεὸςTheosGod ἐνετείλατοeneteilatoorder [a man] λέγωνlegōn- : τιμᾷtimahonor τὸνtonthe πατέραpaterafather καὶkaiThus τὴνtēn- μητέραmēteramother [with it] . καὶkaiThus ὃho‘ Whatever κακολογῶνkakologōncurses πατέραpatera[his] father ἢēor μητέραmēteramother θανάτῳthanatōvvv τελευτάτωteleutatōmust be put to death .’
5ὑμεῖςhymeisyou δὲdeBut λέγετεlegetesay that ὋςHosif anyone ἂνan. . . εἴπῃeipēsays τῷtōto [his] πατρὶpatrifather ἢēor τῇtē- μητρίmētrimother , ΔῶρονDōronis a gift devoted [to God] ,’ ὃho‘ Whatever ἐὰνeanvvv ἐξexfrom ἐμοῦemoume ὠφεληθῇςōphelēthēsyou would have received καὶkaiThus οὐouvvv μὴmēvvv τιμήσειtimēseihe need not honor τὸνton- πατέραpaterafather αὐτοῦautouhis ἢēor τὴνtēn- μητέραmēteramother [with it] . αὐτοῦautouhis
6καὶkaiThus ἠκυρώσατεēkyrōsateyou nullify τὴνtēn- ἐντολὴνentolēncommand τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God διὰdiafor the sake of τὴνtēn- παράδοσινparadosintradition ? ὑμῶνhymōnyour
7ὑποκριταίhypokritaiYou hypocrites ! καλῶςkalōscorrectly προεφήτευσεproepheteuseprophesied περὶperiabout ὑμῶνhymōnyou ἨσαΐαςĒsaiasIsaiah λέγωνlegōn- :
8ἐγγίζειengizeiapproaches μοιmoime ! ” λαὸςlaospeople οὗτοςhoutos‘ These τὸtoby what στόματιstomatiby [the] edge αὐτῶνautōntheir ΚαὶKai- τοῖςtoiswith their χείλεσίνcheilesinlips , μεmeMe τιμᾷtimahonor ἩHē- δὲdebut καρδίαkardiahearts αὐτῶνautōntheir πόρρωporrō. . . ἀπέχειapecheiare far ἀπ’ap’from ἐμοῦemouMe .
9ΜάτηνMatēnin vain ; δὲde- σέβονταίsebontaiThey worship μεmeMe ΔιδάσκοντεςDidaskontesthey teach διδασκαλίαςdidaskalias[as] doctrine ἐντάλματαentalmata[the] precepts ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnof men .’ ”
10ΚαὶKai- προσκαλεσάμενοςproskalesamenos[Jesus] called τὸνtonthe ὄχλονochloncrowd [to Him] εἶπενeipen[and] said αὐτοῖςautois- , ἈκούετεAkouete“ Listen καὶkaiand συνίετεsynieteunderstand .
11οὐou. . . τὸtoby what εἰσερχόμενονeiserchomenonenters εἰςeis. . . τὸto[his] στόμαstomamouth , κοινοῖkoinoi- τὸνton- ἄνθρωπονanthrōpon- ἀλλὰallabut τὸto[his] ἐκπορευόμενονekporeuomenoncomes ἐκekout of τοῦtou- στόματοςstomatos[it] . ” τοῦτοtouto- κοινοῖkoinoi- τὸνton- ἄνθρωπονanthrōpon-
12ΤότεToteThen προσελθόντεςproselthontescame οἱhoithe μαθηταὶmathētaidisciples αὐτοῦautouhis εἰπὼνeipōnHe said αὐτῷautōto Him ΟἶδαςOidas“ Are You aware ὅτιhotithat οἱhoithe ΦαρισαῖοιPharisaioiPharisees ἐσκανδαλίσθησανeskandalisthēsanwere offended ἀκούσαντεςakousanteswhen they heard τὸνtonthis λόγονlogon- ? ”
13ὉHo- δὲdeBut ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheis[Jesus] replied εἴπῃeipēsays ΠᾶσαPasa“ Every φυτείαphyteiaplant ἣνhēnthat οὐκoukvvv ἐφύτευσενephyteusenhas not planted ὁho- ΠατήρPatērFather μουmouMy ὁho- οὐράνιοςouraniosheavenly ἐκριζωθήσεταιekrizōthēsetaiwill be pulled up by its roots .
14ἄφετεapheteDisregard αὐτούςautousthem ! ὁδηγοίhodēgoiguides εἰσιeisiare τυφλοίtyphloiblind τυφλῶνtyphlōn- . τυφλὸςtyphlos[a] blind [man] δὲde- τυφλῶνtyphlōn- . ἐὰνeanIf ὁδηγῇhodēgēleads ἀμφότεροιamphoteroiboth εἰςeisinto βόθυνονbothynona pit . ” πεσοῦνταιpesountaiwill fall
15ἈποκριθεὶςApokritheissaid δὲde- ὁho- ΠέτροςPetrosPeter εἶπενeipen. . . αὐτῷautōto Him , ΦράσονPhrason“ Explain ἡμῖνhēminto us . ” τὴνtēn- παραβολήνparabolēnparable ‹ταύτην›tautēnthis
16ὁho- δὲde- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἶπενeipen. . . , ἈκμὴνAkmēnstill καὶkaivvv ὑμεῖςhymeisyou ἀσύνετοίasynetoinot understand ? ” ἐστεeste“ Do
17οὐou“ vvv νοεῖτεnoeiteDo you not yet realize ὅτιhotithat πᾶνpanwhatever τὸto- εἰσπορευόμενονeisporeuomenonenters εἰςeis. . . τὸtothe στόμαstomamouth εἰςeisinto τὴνtēnthe κοιλίανkoilianstomach χωρεῖchōreigoes καὶkaiand then εἰςeis. . . ἀφεδρῶναaphedrōna. . . ? ἐκβάλλεταιekballetaiis eliminated
18τὰtathe things δὲdeBut ἐκπορευόμεναekporeuomenathat come ἐκekout of τοῦtouthe στόματοςstomatosmouth ἐκekfrom τῆςtēsthe καρδίαςkardiasheart , ἐξέρχεταιexerchetaicome κἀκεῖναkakeinaand these things κοινοῖkoinoidefile τὸνtona ἄνθρωπονanthrōponman .
19ἐκekout of γὰρgarFor τῆςtēsthe καρδίαςkardiasheart ἐξέρχονταιexerchontaicome διαλογισμοὶdialogismoithoughts , πονηροίponēroievil φόνοιphonoimurder , μοιχεῖαιmoicheiaiadultery , πορνεῖαιporneiaisexual immorality , κλοπαίklopaitheft , ψευδομαρτυρίαιpseudomartyriaifalse testimony , βλασφημίαιblasphēmiai[and] slander .
20ταῦτάtautaThese ἐστιestiis τὰtawhat κοινοῦνταkoinountadefile τὸνtona ἄνθρωπονanthrōponman , τὸto- δὲdebut ἀνίπτοιςaniptoiswith unwashed χερσὶkhersihands , φαγεῖνphageineating οὐouvvv κοινοῖkoinoidoes not defile τὸνton- ἄνθρωπονanthrōpon[him] . ”
21ΚαὶKai- ἐξελθὼνexelthōnLeaving ἐκεῖθενekeithenthat place , ὁho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἀνεχώρησενanechōrēsenwithdrew εἰςeisto τὰtathe μέρηmerēdistrict ΤύρουTyrouof Tyre καὶkaiand ΣιδῶνοςSidōnosSidon .
22καὶkaiAnd ἰδοὺidou. . . γυνὴgynēwoman ΧαναναίαChananaiaa Canaanite ἀπὸapofrom τῶνtōnvvv ὁρίωνhoriōnregion ἐκείνωνekeinōnthat ἐξελθοῦσαexelthousacame [to Him] , ἐκραύγασενekraugasenhe cried out αὐτῷautōHim . λέγουσαlegousashe said . ἘλέησόνEleēsonhave mercy on μεmeme ! ΚύριεKyrie“ Lord , ΥἱὲHuieSon ΔαυίδDauidof David , ἡhē- θυγάτηρthygatērdaughter μουmouMy κακῶςkakōs{is} miserably δαιμονίζεταιdaimonizetaipossessed by a demon . ”
23ὉHo- δὲdeBut οὐκoukvvv ἀπεκρίθηapekrithē[Jesus] did not answer αὐτῇautē- . λόγονlogona word καὶkaiSo προσελθόντεςproselthontescame οἱhoi- μαθηταὶmathētaidisciples αὐτοῦautouHis ἠρώτουνērōtoun[and] urged αὐτὸνautonHim λέγοντεςlegontes- , ἈπόλυσονApolyson“ Send her away αὐτήνautēn. . . , ὅτιhotifor κράζειkrazeishe keeps crying out ὄπισθενopisthenafter ἡμῶνhēmōnus . ”
24ὉHo- δὲde- ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisHe answered εἶπενeipen. . . , ΟὐκOuk“ vvv ἀπεστάληνapestalēnI was sent εἰeionly μὴmē. . . εἰςeisto τὰtathe πρόβαταprobatasheep τὰta- ἀπολωλόταapolōlotalost οἴκουoikouof [the] house ἸσραήλIsraēlof Israel . ”
25ἩHē- δὲde- ἐλθοῦσαelthousa[The woman] came προσεκύνησενprosekunesen[and] knelt αὐτῷautōHim . λέγουσαlegousashe said . ΚύριεKyrie“ Lord , βοήθειboētheihelp μοιmoime ! ”
26ὉHo- δὲdeBut ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheis[Jesus] replied εἶπενeipen- , ΟὐκOuknot ἔστιestiis καλὸνkalonright λαβεῖνlabeinto take τὸνtonthe ἄρτονartonbread τῶνtōn- τέκνωνteknōnchildren’s καὶkaiand βαλεῖνbaleintoss [it] τοῖςtoisto the κυναρίοιςkynarioisdogs . ”
27ἩHē- δὲde- εἴπῃeipēsays ΝαίNai“ Yes , κύριεkyrieLord , ” καὶkaieven γὰρgar“ - τὰtathe κυνάριαkynariadogs ἐσθίειesthieieat ἀπὸapo- τῶνtōnthe ψιχίωνpsichiōncrumbs τῶνtōn- πιπτόντωνpiptontōnthat fall ἀπὸapofrom τῆςtēs- τραπέζηςtrapezēstable . ” τῶνtōn- κυρίωνkyriōnmaster’s αὐτῶνautōntheir
28ΤότεTote- ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisanswered ὁho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἶπενeipen. . . αὐτῇautē. . . , ὁho- γύναιgynaiwoman , ” μεγάληmegalēis great ! σουsou“ your ἡhē- πίστιςpistisfaith γενηθήτωgenēthētōLet it be done σοιsoifor you ὡςhōsas θέλειςtheleisyou desire . ” καὶkaiAnd ἰάθηiathēwas healed ἡhē- θυγάτηρthygatērdaughter αὐτῆςautēsher ἀπὸapofrom τῆςtēsthat ὥραςhōrashour . ἐκείνηςekeinēsvery
29ΚαὶKai- μεταβὰςmetabasMoving on ἐκεῖθενekeithenfrom there , ὁho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἦλθενēlthenwent παρὰparaalong τὴνtēnthe θάλασσανthalassanSea τῆςtēs- ΓαλιλαίαςGalilaiasof Galilee . καὶkaiThen ἀναβὰςanabasHe went up εἰςeison τὸto- ὄροςorosa mountain ἐκάθητοekathēto[and] sat ἐκεῖekeidown .
30καὶkai- προσῆλθονprosēlthoncame αὐτῷautōto Him , ὄχλοιochloicrowds πολλοὶpolloiLarge ἔχοντεςechontesbringing μεθ’meth’. . . ἑαυτῶνheautōn. . . χωλούςchōlous[the] lame , τυφλούςtyphlous[the] blind , κωφούςkōphous[the] mute , κυλλούςkyllous[the] crippled , καὶkaiand ἑτέρουςheterousothers , πολλούςpollousmany καὶkaiand ἔρριψαν*erripsanlaid αὐτοὺςautousthem παρὰparaat τοὺςtous- πόδαςpodasfeet , τοῦtouthe ἸησοῦIēsouto Jesus καὶkaiand ἐθεράπευσενetherapeusenHe healed αὐτούςautousthem .
31ὥστεhōste- τοὺςtous- ὄχλουςochlouscrowds , θαυμάσαιthaumasaiwas amazed ΒλέποντεςBlepontes‘ [though] seeing , κωφοὺςkōphous[the] mute ἀκούοντας,akouontaslistening to ἀλάλουςalalousmute λαλοῦνταςlalountasspeaking , κυλλοὺςkyllous[the] crippled ὑγιεῖςhygieisrestored , χωλοὺςchōlous[the] lame περιπατοῦνταςperipatountaswalking , καὶkaiand τυφλοὺςtyphlous[the] blind βλέπονταςblepontasseeing . καὶkaiAnd ἐδόξασανedoxasanthey glorified τὸνtonthe ΘεὸνTheonGod ἸσραήλIsraēlof Israel .
32ὉHo- δὲdeThen ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus προσκαλεσάμενοςproskalesamenoscalled τοὺςtous- μαθητὰςmathētasdisciples [to Him] αὐτοῦautouHis εἴπῃeipēsays ΣπλαγχνίζομαιSplanchnizomai“ I have compassion ἐπὶepifor τὸνton[this] ὄχλονochloncrowd , ὅτιhotibecause ἤδηēdē. . . ἡμέραιhēmeraidays τρεῖςtreisthree προσμένουσίprosmenousithey have already been μοιmoiwith Me καὶkaiand οὐκouknothing ἜχουσιEchousi‘ They have τίti- φάγωσι·phagosito eat . καὶkai- ἀπολῦσαιapolysaito send them away αὐτοὺςautous. . . νήστειςnēsteishungry , οὐouvvv θέλωthelōI do not want μήποτέmepotethat at not time, lest ever ἐκλυθῶσινeklythōsinthey may faint ἐνenalong τῇtēthe ὁδῷhodōway . ”
33ΚαὶKai- λέγουσινlegousinreplied αὐτῷautō- , οἱhoiThe μαθηταίmathētaidisciples αὐτοῦautouHis ΠόθενPothen“ Where ἡμῖνhēmincould we [find] ἐνenin ἐρημίᾳerēmiathis desolate place ἄρτοιartoibread τοσοῦτοιtosoutoienough ὥστεhōstevvv χορτάσαιchortasaito feed ὄχλονochloncrowd ? ” τοσοῦτονtosoutonsuch a large
34ΚαὶKai- λέγειlegeiasked αὐτοῖςautois- . ὁho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ΠόσουςPosous“ How many ἄρτουςartousloaves ἔχετεechetedo you have ? ” ΟἱHoi- δὲde- εἰπὼνeipōnHe said ἙπτάHepta“ Seven , ” καὶkai“ and ὀλίγαoligaa few ἰχθύδιαichthydiasmall fish . ”
35ΚαὶKaiAnd ἐκέλευσεekeleuse[and] directed that τοῖςtoisto ὄχλοιςochloispeople . ἀναπεσεῖνanapeseinto sit down ἐπὶepion τὴνtēnthe γῆνgēnground .
36καὶkaiand λαβὼνlabōntook τοὺςtousthe ἑπτὰheptaseven ἄρτουςartousloaves καὶkaiand τοὺςtousthe ἰχθύαςichthyasfish , εὐχαριστήσαςeucharistēsasHe gave thanks ἔκλασεeklase[and] broke [it] , καὶkai- ἐδίδουedidouHe gave [them] τοῖςtoisto μαθηταῖςmathētais[the] disciples , αὐτοῦautouHis οἱhoiThe δὲde- μαθηταίmathētaidisciples τοῖςtoisto ὄχλοιςochloispeople .
37ΚαὶKai- ἔφαγονephagonate πάντεςpantesThey all ΚαὶKai- ἐχορτάσθησανechortasthēsanwere satisfied , καὶkaiand ἦρανēran[the disciples] picked up τὸtothat περισσεῦονperisseuonwere left over . τῶνtōn- κλασμάτωνklasmatōnof broken pieces ἑπτὰheptaseven σπυρίδαςspyridasbasketfuls πλήρειςplēreis. . .
38οἱhoiA total of δὲde. . . ἐσθίοντεςesthiontesfed , ἦσανēsanwere τετρακισχίλιοιtetrakischilioifour thousand ἄνδρεςandresmen χωρὶςchōrisin addition to γυναικῶνgynaikōnwomen καὶkaiand παιδίωνpaidiōnchildren .
39ΚαὶKaiAfter ἀπολύσαςapolysas[Jesus] had dismissed τοὺςtousthe ὄχλουςochlouscrowds , ἀνέβηanebē[and] went up εἰςeis. . . τὸtothe πλοῖονploionboat καὶkaiand ἦλθενēlthenwent εἰςeisto τὰtathe ὅριαhoriaregion Μαγδαλάmagdalaof Magadan .
