5νόσωνnosōndiseases , καὶkaiand μαστίγωνmastigōnafflictions , καὶkaiand πνευμάτωνpneumatōnspirits πονηρῶνponērōnevil καὶkaiand ἀσθενειῶνastheneiōninfirmities : ΜαρίαMariaMary - καλουμένηkaloumenēcalled ΜαγδαληνήMagdalēnēMagdalene , ἀφ’aph’from ἧςhēswhom δαιμόνιαdaimoniademons ἑπτὰheptaseven ἐξεληλύθειexelēlytheihad gone out ,
6καὶkai- ἸωάνναIōannaJoanna γυνὴgynē[the] wife ΧουζᾶChouzaChuza , ἐπιτρόπουepitropouhousehold manager ἩρῴδουHērōdouof Herod’s καὶkai- ΣουσάνναSousannaSusanna , καὶkaiand ἕτεραιheteraiothers . πολλαίpollaimany αἵτινεςhaitines[These women] διηκόνουνdiēkonounwere ministering αὐτῷautōHim , ἀπὸapoof τῶνtōn- ὑπαρχόντωνhyparchontōnmeans . αὐταῖςautaistheir own
7ΣυνιόντοςSyniontoswas gathering δὲde[While] ὄχλουochloucrowd πολλοῦpolloua large καὶkaiand τῶνtōn[people] κατὰkatavvv πόλινpolinfrom town after town , ἐπιπορευομένωνepiporeuomenōnwere coming πρὸςprosto αὐτὸνauton[Jesus] εἰπὲeipesay διὰdia- παραβολῆςparabolēs[this] parable :
8ἘξῆλθενExēlthenwent out ho“ - σπείρωνspeirōnA farmer τοῦtou- σπεῖραιspeiraito sow τὸνton- σπόρονsporonseed . αὐτοῦautouhis καὶkaiAnd ἐνenas τῷ- σπείρεινspeireinwas sowing , αὐτὸνautonhe hosome [seed] μὲνmen- ἔπεσεepesefell παρὰparaalong τὴνtēnthe ὁδόνhodonpath , καὶkaiwhere κατεπατήθηkatepatēthēit was trampled , καὶkaiand τὰtathe πετεινὰpeteinabirds τοῦtouof the οὐρανοῦouranouair κατέφαγενkatephagendevoured αὐτόautoit .
9ΚαὶKai- ἕτερονheteronSome ἔπεσενepesenfell ἐπὶepion τὴνtēn- πέτρανpetranrocky ground , καὶkaiand φυὲνphyenwhen it came up , ἐξηράνθηexēranthē[the seedlings] withered διὰdiabecause τὸto- μὴno ἔχεινecheinthey had ἰκμάδαikmadamoisture .
10ΚαὶKai- ἕτερονheteronOther [seed] ἔπεσενepesenfell ἐνenvvv μέσῳmesōamong τῶνtōn- ἀκανθῶνakanthōnthorns , καὶkai- συμφυεῖσαιsymphyeisaigrew up with [it] αἱhai- ἄκανθαιakanthai[which] ἀπέπνιξανapepnixan[and] choked αὐτόauto[the seedlings] .
11ΚαὶKaiStill ἕτερονheteronother [seed] ἔπεσενepesenfell εἰςeison τὴνtēn- γῆνgēnsoil , τὴνtēn- ἀγαθήνagathēngood καὶkai[where] φυὲνphyenit sprang up ἐποίησεepoiesehas done καρπὸνkarpona crop — ἑκατονταπλασίοναhekatontaplasionaa hundredfold . ” ΤαῦταTauta[this] , λέγωνlegōnAs [Jesus] said ἐφώνειephōneiHe called out , Ho“ He who ἔχωνechōnhas ὦταōtaears ἀκούεινakoueinto hear , ἀκουέτωakouetōlet him hear . ”
12ἘπηρώτωνEpērōtōnasked δὲdeThen αὐτὸνautonHim οἱhoi- μαθηταὶmathētaidisciples αὐτοῦautouHis
13λέγοντεςlegontessaying ,
14ΤίςTis“ Who
15εἴηeiēmeant . - παραβολήparabolēparable αὕτηhautēthis
16Ho- δὲde- εἶπενeipenHe replied , ὙμῖνHyminto you , δέδοταιdedotaihas been given γνῶναιgnōnai“ The knowledge τὰtaof the μυστήριαmystēriamysteries τῆςtēsof the βασιλείαςbasileiaskingdom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God τοῖςtoisto δὲdebut λοιποῖςloipoisothers ἐνen[I speak] in παραβολαῖςparabolaisparables , ἵναhinaso that , ΒλέποντεςBlepontes‘ [though] seeing , μὴvvv βλέπωσιbleposithey may not see ; ΚαὶKai- ἀκούοντεςakouontes[though] hearing , μὴvvv συνιῶσινsyniōsinthey may not understand .’
17Ἔστιestiis δὲdeNow αὕτηhautēthis of the παραβολήparabolēparable : hoThe σπόροςsporosseed ἐστὶνestinis hothe λόγοςlogosword τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God .
18οἱhoiThe [ seeds ] δὲde- παρὰparaalong τὴνtēnthe ὁδόνhodonpath εἰσινeisinare οἱhoithose who ἀκούσαντεςakousanteshear , εἶταeita[but] ἔρχεταιerchetaicomes hothe διάβολοςdiabolosdevil καὶkaiand αἴρειaireitakes away τὸνtonthe λόγονlogonword ἀπὸapofrom τῆςtēs- καρδίαςkardiashearts , αὐτῶνautōntheir ἵναhinaso that μὴvvv πιστεύσαντεςpisteusantesthey may not believe σωθῶσινsōthōsin[and] be saved .
19ΟἱHoiThe [ seeds ] δὲde- ἐπὶepion τῆςtēs- πέτραςpetrasrocky ground οἳhoi[are] those who ὅτανhotan- ἀκούσωσι,akousosihear μετὰmetawith χαρᾶςcharasjoy , δέχονταιdechontai[and] receive it τὸνtonthe λόγονlogonword καὶkaibut οὗτοιhoutoi[they] ῥίζανrhizanroot . οὐκoukno ἔχουσινechousinhave οἳhoi[They] πρὸςprosfor καιρὸνkairona season , πιστεύουσιpisteuousibelieve καὶkai[but] ἐνenin καιρῷkairō[the] time πειρασμοῦpeirasmouof testing , ἀφίστανταιaphistantaithey fall away .
20ΤὸToThe [ seeds that ] δὲde- εἰςeisamong τὰςtasthe ἀκάνθαςakanthasthorns πεσόνpesonfell οὗτοίhoutoi- εἰσινeisinare οἱhoithose who ἀκούσαντεςakousanteshear , καὶkai[but] ὑπὸhypoby μεριμνῶνmerimnōn[the] worries , καὶkai- πλούτουploutouriches , καὶkaiand ἡδονῶνhēdonōnpleasures τοῦtouof [this] βίουbioulife , πορευόμενοιporeuomenoias they go on their way , συμπνίγονταιsympnigontaithey are choked καὶkai[but] οὐouvvv τελεσφοροῦσι.telesphorousitheir fruit does not mature .
21ΤὸTothe [seeds] δὲdeBut ἐνenon τῇ- καλῇkalēgood γῇsoil οὗτοίhoutoi- εἰσινeisinare οἵτινεςhoitinesthose ἐνenwith καρδίᾳkardiaheart , καλῇkalēa noble καὶkaiand ἀγαθῇagathēgood ἀκούσαντεςakousantes[who] hear τὸνtonthe λόγονlogonword , κατέχουσιkatekhousicling to [it] , καὶkaiand καρποφοροῦσινkarpophorousinproduce a crop . ἐνenby ὑπομονῇhypomonēpersevering
22ΟὐδεὶςOudeisNo one δὲde- λύχνονlychnona lamp ἅψαςhapsaslights καλύπτειkalyptei[and] covers αὐτὸνautonit σκεύειskeueiwith a jar ēor ὑποκάτωhypokatōunder κλίνηςklinēsa bed . τίθησινtithēsinhe sets [it] ἀλλ’all’Instead , ἐπὶepion λυχνίαςlychniasa stand , ἐπιτίθησινepitithēsinhe joyfully puts [it] ἵναhinaso οἱhoithose who εἰσπορευόμενοιeisporeuomenoienter βλέπωσιbleposithey may not see ; τὸtothe φῶςphōslight .
23οὐounothing γάρgarFor ἐστιestiis κρυπτὸνkryptonhidden hothat οὐouvvv φανερὸνphanerondisclosed , γενήσεταιgenēsetaiwill not be οὐδὲoude[and] nothing ἀπόκρυφονapokryphonconcealed hothat οὐouvvv γνωσθήσεταιgnōsthēsetaibe made known .

26ἔλθῃelthēbrought
27ΒλέπετεBlepetePay attention , οὖνountherefore , πῶςpōsto how ἀκούετεakoueteyou listen . ὃςhosWhoever γὰρgar- ἐὰνeanIf ἔχῃechēhas δοθήσεταιdothēsetaiwill be given [more] , αὐτῷautōvvv καὶkai[but]
28ὃςhoswhoever
29ἐὰνeanIf μὴvvv ἔχῃechēdoes not have , καὶkaieven howhat δοκεῖdokeihe thinks ἔχεινecheinhe has ἀρθήσεταιarthēsetaiwill be taken away ἀπ’ap’from αὐτοῦautouhim . ”
30Παρεγένοντοparegenontocame δὲdeThen πρὸςprosto [see] αὐτὸνautonHim , - μήτηρmētērmother καὶkaiand οἱhoi- ἀδελφοὶadelphoibrothers αὐτοῦautou[Jesus’] καὶkaiand οὐκoukvvv ἠδύναντοēdynantothey were unable συντυχεῖνsyntycheinto reach αὐτῷautōHim διὰdiabecause of τὸνtonthe ὄχλονochloncrowd .

32ἀπηγγέληapēngelēHe was told αὐτῷautō. . . , λεγόντωνlegontōnsaying : - μήτηρmētērmother σουsou-
33καὶkaiand
34οἱhoi- ἀδελφοίadelphoibrothers σουsou- ἑστήκασινhestēkasinare standing
35ἔξωexōoutside ,
36ἰδεῖνideinto see σεseYou . ” θέλοντέςthelonteswanting
37Ho- δὲdeBut ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisHe replied εἶπενeipen. . . πρὸςpros. . . αὐτούςautous. . . , ΜήτηρMētērmother μουmou“ My καὶkaiand ἀδελφοίadelphoibrothers μουmou- οὗτοίhoutoithose εἰσινeisinare οἱhoiwho τὸνtonthe λόγονlogonword τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God ἀκούοντεςakouonteshear καὶkaiand ποιοῦντεςpoiountescarry it out . ”

39ἘγένετοEgenetovvv ἐνenvvv μιᾷmiaOne τῶνtōn- ἡμερῶνhēmerōnday καὶkai- αὐτὸςautosHe ἐνέβηenebēgot into εἰςeis. . . πλοῖονploiona boat καὶkai[with] οἱhoivvv μαθηταὶmathētai[them] αὐτοῦautouvvv καὶkai[with] εἰπὲeipesay πρὸςprosto αὐτούςautous[His disciples] , ΔιέλθωμενDielthōmen“ Let us cross εἰςeisto τὸtothe πέρανperanother side τῆςtēsof the λίμνηςlimnēslake . ” καὶkaiSo ἀνήχθησανanēchthēsanset out .
40πλεόντωνpleontōnsailed , δὲde- αὐτῶνautōnAs they ἀφύπνωσε.aphupnoseHe fell asleep , καὶkaiand κατέβηkatebēcame down λαῖλαψlailapsa windstorm ἀνέμουanemou. . . εἰςeison τὴνtēnthe λίμνηνlimnēnlake , καὶkaiso that συνεπληροῦντοsyneplērounto[the boat] was being swamped , καὶkaiand ἐκινδύνευονekindyneuonthey were in great danger .
41ΠροσελθόντεςProselthontes[The disciples] went δὲde- διήγειρανdiēgeiran[and] woke αὐτὸνautonHim , λέγοντεςlegontessaying , ἘπιστάταEpistata“ Master , ἘπιστάταEpistata“ Master , ἀπολλύμεθαapollymethawe are perishing ! ” Ho- δὲdeThen ἐγερθεὶςegertheishe will get up ἐπετίμησεepetimese[and] rebuked τῷthe ἀνέμῳanemōwind καὶkaiand τῷthe κλύδωνιklydōniraging τοῦtou- ὕδατοςhydatoswaters , καὶkaiand ἐπαύσαντοepausantothey subsided , καὶkaiand
42ἐγένετοegeneto[all] was
43γαλήνηgalēnēcalm .

46αὐτοῖςautois- . ΠοῦPou“ Where is ἐστινestinis - πίστιςpistisfaith ? ” ὑμῶνhymōnyour ΦοβηθέντεςPhobēthentesFrightened δὲde- ἐθαύμασανethaumasan[and] amazed , λέγοντεςlegontesthey asked πρὸςpros- ἀλλήλουςallēlousone another , ΤίςTis“ Who ἄραara- οὗτόςhoutosthis ? ἐστινestinis ὅτιhoti- καὶkaieven τοῖςtoisthe ἀνέμοιςanemoiswinds ἐπιτάσσειepitasseiHe commands καὶkaieven τῷthe ὕδατιhydatiwater , καὶkaiand ὑπακούουσινhypakouousinthey obey αὐτῷautōHim ! ”
47ΚαὶKaiThen κατέπλευσενkatepleusenthey sailed εἰςeisto τὴνtēnthe χώρανchōranregion τῶνtōnof the Γαδαρηνῶν,gadarenonGerasenes , ἥτιςhētisvvv ἐστὶνestinvvv ἀντιπέραantiperaacross [the lake] from τῆςtēs- ΓαλιλαίαςGalilaiasGalilee .
48ἐξελθόντιexelthontistepped δὲdeWhen αὐτῷautō[Jesus] ἐπὶepivvv τὴνtēnvvv γῆνgēnashore , ὑπήντησενhypēntēsenHe was met by αὐτῷautō[Jesus] ἀνήρanērman τιςtisa ἐκekfrom τῆςtēsthe πόλεωςpoleōstown . ὃςhoswhoever εἶχεeikhewho had δαιμόνιαdaimoniademon-possessed ἐκekfrom χρόνωνchronōntime ,

50ἱμάτιονhimationclothing οὐκoukvvv ἐνεδιδύσκετοenedidysketodressed in καὶkai[or]

52οἰκίᾳoikiaa house , οὐκoukvvv ἔμενενemenenlived ἀλλ’all’but [he stayed] ἐνenin τοῖςtoisthe μνήμασινmnēmasintombs .

55καὶkai- ἀνακράξαςanakraxashe cried out προσέπεσενprosepesen[and] fell down before αὐτῷautōHim , καὶkai- φωνῇphōnēshouting in a loud voice μεγάλῃmegalēvvv εἰπὲeipesay ΤίTi“ What ἐμοὶemoi[want] with me , καὶkai- σοίsoido You ἸησοῦIēsouJesus , ΥἱὲHuieSon τοῦtouof ΘεοῦTheouGod ? τοῦtouthe ὙψίστουHypsistouMost High δέομαίdeomaiI beg σουsouYou μήnot μήnot βασανίσῃςbasanisēsto torture
56παρήγγειλεpareggeile[Jesus] ordered γὰρgarFor

58πνεύματιpneumatispirit τῷ- ἀκαθάρτῳakathartōunclean ἐξελθεῖνexeltheinto come out ἀπὸapoof τοῦtouthe ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouman . πολλοῖςpolloisMany γὰρgar- χρόνοιςchronoistimes συνηρπάκειsynērpakeiit had seized αὐτόνautonhim , καὶkaiand ἐδεσμεῖτοedesmeito[though] he was bound ἁλύσεσιalusesichains καὶkaiand πέδαιςpedaisshackles , φυλασσόμενοςphylassomenoswith καὶkaiand διαρρήσσωνdiarrēssōnhe had broken τὰtathe δεσμὰdesmachains ἠλαύνετοēlauneto[and] been driven ὑπὸ*hypoby τοῦtouthe δαίμονοςdaimonosdemon εἰςeisinto τὰςtas- ἐρήμουςerēmoussolitary places .

61ΤίTi“ What σοιsoiyour ἐστινestinis ὄνομάonomaname ? ” ho- δὲde- εἰπὲeipesay Λεγεών·legeon“ Legion , ” ὅτιhotibecause δαιμόνιαdaimoniademons πολλὰpollamany εἰσῆλθενeisēlthenhad gone εἰςeisinto αὐτόνautonhim .

63παρεκάλειparekaleiHe begged αὐτὸνautonHim
64ἵναhinato μὴnot ἐπιτάξῃepitaxēto order αὐτοῖςautoisthem εἰςeisinto τὴνtēnthe ἄβυσσονabyssonAbyss . ἀπελθεῖνapeltheinto go
65ἐνenon δὲde- ἐκεῖekeiThere ἀγέληagelēherd χοίρωνchoirōnof pigs ἱκανῶνhikanōna large βοσκομένηboskomenēfeeding . ἮνĒnwas τῷthe ὄρειoreihillside καὶkai[So] παρεκάλουνparekaloun[the demons] kept begging αὐτὸνauton[Jesus] ἵναhina- ἐπιτρέψῃepitrepsēlet αὐτοῖςautoisthem εἰςeis. . . ἐκείνουςekeinous[the pigs] , εἰσελθεῖνeiseltheinenter καὶkaiand ἐπέτρεψενepetrepsenHe gave them permission αὐτοῖςautois. . . .
66ἘξελθόνταExelthontacame out δὲdeThen τὰtathe δαιμόνιαdaimoniademons ἀπὸapoof τοῦtouthe ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouman εἰσῆλθονeisēlthon[and] went εἰςeisinto τοὺςtousthe χοίρουςchoirouspigs , καὶkaiand ὥρμησενhōrmēsenrushed the ἀγέληagelēherd κατὰkatadown τοῦtouthe κρημνοῦkrēmnousteep bank εἰςeisinto τὴνtēnthe λίμνηνlimnēnlake καὶkaiand ἀπεπνίγηapepnigēwas drowned .
67ἸδόντεςIdontessaw δὲdeWhen οἱhoithose βόσκοντεςboskontestending [the pigs] τὸtowhat γεγενημένονgegenimenonnewborn ἔφυγονephygonthey ran off καὶkaiand ἀπήγγειλανapēngeilanreported [this] εἰςeisin τὴνtēnthe πόλινpolintown καὶkaiand εἰςeis- τοὺςtous- ἀγρούςagrouscountryside .
68ἐξῆλθονexēlthon[the people] went out δὲde[So] ἰδεῖνideinto see τὸtowhat γεγονὸςgegonoshad happened . καὶkai- ἦλθονēlthonThey came πρὸςprosto τὸνton- ἸησοῦνIēsounJesus καὶkaiand εὗρονheuronfound καθήμενονkathēmenonsitting τὸνtonthe ἄνθρωπονanthrōponman ἀφ’aph’. . . , οὗhouwhom τὰtathe δαιμόνιαdaimoniademons
69ἐξεληλύθειexelēlytheihad left
70ἱματισμένονhimatismenonclothed καὶkaiand σωφρονοῦνταsōphronountain his right mind ; παρὰparaat τοὺςtous- πόδαςpodasfeet , τοῦtou- ἸησοῦIēsouJesus’ καὶkaiand ἐφοβήθησανephobēthēsanthey were afraid .
71ἀπήγγειλανapēngeilanreported δὲdeMeanwhile , αὐτοῖςautois. . . οἱhoithose who ἰδόντεςidonteshad seen [it] πῶςpōshow ἐσώθηesōthēhad been healed . hothe δαιμονισθείςdaimonistheisdemon-possessed man
72ΚαὶKaiThen ἠρώτησανērōtēsanthey appealed αὐτὸνauton[Jesus] ἅπανhapanall τὸtothe πλῆθοςplēthospeople τῆςtēsof the περιχώρουperichōrouregion τῶνtōnof the ΓαδαρηνῶνgadarenonGerasenes , ἀπελθεῖνapeltheinto depart ἀπ’ap’from αὐτῶνautōnthem , ὅτιhotibecause φόβῳphobōfear μεγάλῳmegalōgreat συνείχοντοsyneichontohad taken hold of them . αὐτὸςautosHe δὲdeSo ἐμβὰςembasgot εἰςeisinto τὸtothe πλοῖονploionthe boat ὑπέστρεψενhypestrepsen[and] started back .
