2ἈγαπητέAgapēteBeloved , περὶperiin πάντωνpantōnevery way εὔχομαίeuchomaiI pray that σεseyou εὐοδοῦσθαιeuodousthaimay prosper καὶkaiand ὑγιαίνεινhygiaineinenjoy good health , καθὼςkathōsas εὐοδοῦταίeuodoutaiprospers . σουsouyour ἡhē- ψυχήpsychēsoul {also}
3ἐχάρηνecharēnI was overjoyed γὰρgarFor λίανlian. . . ἐρχομένωνerchomenōncame ἀδελφῶνadelphōn[when the] brothers καὶkaiand μαρτυρούντωνmartyrountōntestified σουsouabout your τῇtē- ἀληθείᾳalētheiadevotion to the truth , καθὼςkathōs. . . σὺsyyou ἐνenin ἀληθείᾳalētheia[which] περιπατεῖςperipateiscontinue to walk .
4μειζοτέρανmeizoterangreater τούτωνtoutōnthan οὐκoukno ἔχωechōI have χαράνcharanjoy ἵναhinato ἀκούωakouōhear [that] τὰta- ἐμὰemamy τέκναteknachildren ἐνenin ἀληθείᾳalētheiatruth . περιπατοῦνταperipatountaare walking
5ἈγαπητέAgapēteBeloved , πιστὸνpistonfaithful ποιεῖςpoieisyou are ὃhoin what ἐὰνean. . . ἐργάσῃergasēyou are doing εἰςeisfor τοὺςtousthe ἀδελφοὺςadelphousbrothers , καὶkaiand [especially since] εἰςeisfor τοὺςtousthe ξένουςxenousstrangers [to you] .
6οἳhoi[They] ἐμαρτύρησάνemartyrēsanhave testified σουsouabout your τῇtē- ἀγάπῃagapēlove . ἐνώπιονenōpionto ἐκκλησίαςekklēsias[the] church οὓςhous. . . καλῶςkalōswell ποιήσειςpoiēseisYou will do προπέμψαςpropempsasto send them on their way ἀξίωςaxiōsin a manner worthy τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God .
7ὑπὲρhyperon behalf γὰρgarFor τοῦtou- ὈνόματοςOnomatosName , ἐξῆλθον*exēlthonthey went out μηδὲνmēdennothing λαμβάνοντεςlambanontesaccepting ἀπὸapofrom τῶνtōnthe ἐθνικῶνethnikōnGentiles .
8ἡμεῖςhēmeiswe οὖνounTherefore ὀφείλομενopheilomenought ὑπολαμβάνεινhypolambaneinto support τοὺςtous- τοιούτουςtoioutoussuch [men] , ἵναhinaso that συνεργοὶsynergoifellow workers γινώμεθαginōmethawe may be τῇtēfor the ἀληθείᾳalētheiatruth .
9ἜγραψάEgrapsaI have written τῇtēto the ἐκκλησίᾳekklēsiachurch ἀλλ’all’but ὁhowho φιλοπρωτεύωνphiloprōteuōnloves to be first αὐτῶνautōn. . . , ΔιοτρεφὴςDiotrephēsDiotrephes , οὐκoukvvv ἐπιδέχεταιepidechetaiwill not accept ἡμᾶςhēmasour [instruction] .
10διὰdiaSo τοῦτοtouto. . . ἐὰνeanif ἔλθωelthōI come , ὑπομνήσωhypomnēsōI will call attention to αὐτοῦautou- τὰta- ἔργαerga- ἃha[his] ποιεῖpoiei- λόγοιςlogois. . . πονηροῖςponēroismalicious φλυαρῶνphlyarōnslander ἡμᾶςhēmas[against] us . καὶkaiAnd μὴmēvvv ἀρκούμενοςarkoumenosunsatisfied ἐπὶepiwith τούτοιςtoutoisthat , οὔτεoutevvv αὐτὸςautosvvv ἐπιδέχεταιepidechetaihe refuses to welcome τοὺςtousthe ἀδελφοὺςadelphousbrothers καὶkaiand τοὺςtousthose who βουλομένουςboulomenouswant to do so , κωλύειkōlyeiforbids καὶkaiand ἐκekout of τῆςtēsthe ἐκκλησίαςekklēsiaschurch . ἐκβάλλειekballeiputting [them]
11ἈγαπητέAgapēteBeloved , μὴmē{do} not μιμοῦmimouimitate τὸtowhat [is] κακὸνkakonevil , ἀλλὰallabut τὸtowhat [is] ἀγαθόνagathongood . ὁhoThe [one who] ἀγαθοποιῶνagathopoiōndoes good ἐκekof τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouGod ; ἐστινestinis ὁhoThe [one who] κακοποιῶνkakopoiōndoes evil οὐχouchvvv ἑώρακεeorakehas not seen τὸνton- ΘεόνTheonGod .
12ΔημητρίῳDēmētriōDemetrius μεμαρτύρηταιmemartyrētaihas received a good testimony ὑπὸhypofrom πάντωνpantōneveryone , καὶkaiand ὑπ’hyp’under αὐτῆςautēsitself . τῆςtēsthe ἀληθείαςalētheiastruth καὶkai- ἡμεῖςhēmeisWe δὲdealso μαρτυροῦμενmartyroumentestify [for him] , καὶkaiand οἴδατεoidateDo you not know ὅτιhotithat ἡhē- μαρτυρίαmartyriatestimony ἡμῶνhēmōnour ἀληθήςalēthēstrue . ἐστίestiI have
13ΠολλὰPollamany things εἶχονeichonI have γράφεινgraphein[to do so] ἀλλ’all’but οὐounot θέλωthelōI would prefer διὰdiawith μέλανοςmelanosink . καὶkaiand καλάμουkalamoupen σοιsoi. . . γράψαιgrapsaito write
14ἐλπίζωelpizōI hope δὲdeInstead , εὐθέωςeutheōssoon ἰδεῖνideinto see σεseyou καὶkaiand στόμαstoma[face] πρὸςprosto στόμαstoma[face] . λαλήσομενlalēsomenspeak [with you]
15ΕἰρήνηEirēnēPeace σοιsoito you . ἈσπάζονταίAspazontaisend you greetings σεse. . . . οἱhoiThe φίλοιphiloifriends [ here ] ἈσπάζουAspazouGreet τοὺςtous[each of our] φίλουςphilousfriends [there] κατ’kat’by ὄνομαonomaname .
