3ἀνῆλθεanelthewent up δὲdeThen εἰςeison τὸtothe ὄροςorosmountain ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus καὶkaiand ἐκεῖekei- ἐκάθητοekathētosat down μετὰmetawith τῶνtōn- μαθητῶνmathētōndisciples . αὐτοῦautouHis
4ἮνĒnwas δὲdeNow ἐγγὺςengysnear . τὸtoof the πάσχαpaschaPassover the ἑορτὴheortēFeast τῶνtōnvvv ἸουδαίωνIoudaiōnJewish

9Ἔστιestiis παιδάριονpaidariona boy ἦνēnthere was ὧδεhōde“ Here ὃςhos- ἔχειechei[with] πέντεpentefive ἄρτουςartousloaves κριθίνουςkrithinousbarley καὶkaiand δύοdyotwo ὀψάριαopsariasmall fish . ἀλλὰallaBut ταῦταtautawill these make τίtiwhat [ difference ] ἐστινestinvvv εἰςeisamong τοσούτουςtosoutousso many ? ”
10ΕἶπενEipensaid . δὲdeNow ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ΠοιήσατεPoiēsate“ Have τοὺςtousthe ἀνθρώπουςanthrōpous[people] ἀναπεσεῖνanapeseinsit down , ” ἦνēnthere was δὲdeNow χόρτοςchortosgrass πολὺςpolysplenty of ἦνēnthere was τῷ[that] τόπῳtopōplace , ἀνέπεσονanepesonthey sat down οὖνounso οἱhoithe ἄνδρεςandresmen τὸνton- ἀριθμὸνarithmon[of them] . ὡσεὶhōseiabout πεντακισχίλιοιpentakischilioifive thousand
11ἔλαβεelabeswept over δὲdeNow τοὺςtousthe ἄρτουςartousloaves ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus καὶkaiand εὐχαριστήσαςeucharistēsasgave thanks , διέδωκεdiedoke[and] distributed τοῖςtoisto those μαθηταῖςmathētaisdisciples , ΟἱHoithe δὲdeAnd μαθηταὶmathētaidisciples τοῖςtoisby those ἀνακειμένοιςanakeimenoiswho were seated ὁμοίωςhomoiōsand καὶkai. . . ἐκek- τῶνtōnthe ὀψαρίωνopsariōnfish , ὅσονhosonas much as ἤθελονēthelonthey wanted .
12ὩςHōswhen δὲdeAnd ἐνεπλήσθησανeneplēsthēsaneveryone was full , λέγειlegeiHe said τοῖςtoisto μαθηταῖςmathētaisdisciples , αὐτοῦautouHis ΣυναγάγετεSynagagete“ Gather τὰtathe περισσεύσανταperisseusantathat are left over , κλάσματαklasmatapieces ἵναhinaso that μήvvv τιtinothing ἀπόληταιapolētaiwill be wasted . ”
13συνήγαγονsynēgagonthey collected [them] οὖνounSo καὶkaiand ἐγέμισανegemisanfilled δώδεκαdōdekatwelve κοφίνουςkophinousbaskets κλασμάτωνklasmatōnwith the pieces ἐκekof τῶνtōnthe πέντεpentefive ἄρτωνartōnloaves τῶνtōn- κριθίνωνkrithinōnbarley ha- ἐπερίσσευσεeperisseuseleft over τοῖςtoisby those βεβρωκόσινbebrōkosinwho had eaten .
14ΟἱHoithe οὖνoun[When] ἄνθρωποιanthrōpoipeople ἰδόντεςidontessaw hothat ἐποίησεepoiesehas done σημεῖονsēmeionthe sign hothat ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus , ἔλεγονelegonthey began to say ὅτιhoti- , ΟὗτόςHoutosthis ἐστινestinis ἀληθῶςalēthōs“ Truly hothe προφήτηςprophētēsProphet howho ἐρχόμενοςerchomenosis to come εἰςeisinto τὸνtonthe κόσμονkosmonworld . ”
15ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus , οὖνounThen γνοὺςgnousrealizing ὅτιhotithat μέλλουσινmellousinthey were about ἔρχεσθαιerchesthaito come καὶkaiand ἁρπάζεινharpazeinby force , αὐτὸνautonHim ἵναhina- ποιήσωσινpoiēsōsinmake αὐτὸνautonHim βασιλέαbasileaking ἀνεχώρησεanekhoresewithdrew πάλινpalinagain εἰςeisto τὸto- ὄροςorosa mountain αὐτὸςautosby Himself μόνοςmonos. . . .
16ὩςHōsWhen δὲde- ὀψίαopsiaevening ἐγένετοegenetocame , κατέβησανkatebēsanwent down οἱhoi- μαθηταὶmathētaidisciples αὐτοῦautouHis ἐπὶepito τὴνtēnthe θάλασσανthalassansea ,
17καὶkai- ἐμβάντεςembantesgot into εἰςeis. . . τὸto- πλοῖονploiona boat , ἤρχοντοērchonto[and] started πέρανperanacross τῆςtēsthe θαλάσσηςthalassēssea εἰςeisto Καπερναούμ.kapernaoumCapernaum . καὶkai- σκοτίαskotiadark , ἤδηēdēalready ἐγεγόνειegegoneiIt was καὶkai- οὐκouk- ἐληλύθειelēlytheihad not yet gone out πρὸςprosto αὐτοὺςautousthem . ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus
18the τεteand θάλασσαthalassasea ἀνέμουanemouwind μεγάλουmegalouA strong πνέοντοςpneontoswas blowing , διεγείρετοdiegeiretogrew agitated .
19ἘληλακότεςElēlakotesthey had rowed οὖνoun[When] ὡςhōsabout σταδίουςstadious. . . , εἴκοσιeikosithree or four miles πέντεpente. . . ē. . . τριάκονταtriakonta. . . θεωροῦσιtheorousithey saw τὸνton- ἸησοῦνIēsounJesus περιπατοῦνταperipatountawalking ἐπὶepion τῆςtēsthe θαλάσσηςthalassēssea — καὶkaiand ἐγγὺςengys. . . τοῦtouthe πλοίουploiouboat , γινόμενονginomenonapproaching καὶkai- ἐφοβήθησανephobēthēsanthey were terrified .
20ho- δὲdeBut λέγειlegei[Jesus] spoke up αὐτοῖςautois. . . : ἘγώEgōI ; εἰμιeimi“ It is μὴ{do} not φοβεῖσθεphobeisthebe afraid . ”
21ἤθελονēthelonthey were willing οὖνounThen λαβεῖνlabeinto take αὐτὸνautonHim εἰςeisinto τὸtothe πλοῖονploionboat , καὶkaiand εὐθέωςeutheōsat once τὸtothe πλοῖονploionboat ἐγένετοegenetoreached ἐπὶepi. . . τῆςtēsthe γῆςgēsshore εἰςeis- ἣνhēnwhere ὑπῆγονhypēgonthey were heading .
22ΤῇThe ἐπαύριονepaurionnext day , hothe ὄχλοςochloscrowd hothat ἑστηκὼςhestēkōshad remained πέρανperanon the other side τῆςtēsof the θαλάσσηςthalassēssea εἶδονeidonrealized ὅτιhotithat πλοιάριονploiarionboat ἄλλοallo- οὐκouk- ἕνhenone ἐκεῖekeithere , εἰeionly μὴ. . . ἕνhenone ἐκείνῳekeinōto that εἰςeis. . . ὡςhōsabout ἐνέβησανenebēsangot οἱhoi- μαθηταὶmathētaidisciples αὐτοῦautouHis καὶkaiand ὅτιhotithat οὐouvvv συνεισῆλθεsuneiselthehe also went τοῖςtois- μαθηταῖςmathētaisdisciples , αὐτοῦautouvvv ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἰςeis. . . τὸto- πλοιάριονploiarionboat ἀλλὰallabut μόνοιmonoialone . οἱhoivvv μαθηταὶmathētai[they] αὐτοῦautouvvv ἀπῆλθονapēlthonhad gone away
23ἀλλὰallaHowever , δὲdeBut ἔλθῃelthēshould come πλοιάριαploiaria[some] boats ἐκekfrom ΤιβεριάδοςTiberiadosTiberias ἐγγὺςengysnear τοῦtouthe τόπουtopouplace ὅπουhopouwhere ἔφαγονephagon[the people] had eaten τὸνtonthe ἄρτονartonbread εὐχαριστήσαντοςeucharistēsantoshad given thanks . τοῦtou[after] the ΚυρίουKyriouLord
24ὅτεhotewhen οὖνounSo εἶδενeidensaw hothe ὄχλοςochloscrowd ὅτιhotithat ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus οὐκoukneither ἔστινestinwere ἐκεῖekeithere , οὐδὲoudenor οἱhoi- μαθηταὶmathētaidisciples αὐτοῦautouHis ἐνέβησανenebēsangot αὐτοὶautoithey εἰςeisinto τὰtathe πλοῖαploiaboats καὶkaiand ἦλθονēlthonwent εἰςeisto ΚαπερναοὺμkapernaoumCapernaum . ζητοῦντεςzētountesto look for τὸνton- ἸησοῦνIēsoun[Him] .
25καὶkai[When] εὑρόντεςheurontesthey found αὐτὸνautonHim πέρανperanon the other side τῆςtēsof the θαλάσσηςthalassēssea , εἶπονeiponthey asked αὐτῷautōHim , ῬαββίRhabbi“ Rabbi , πότεpotewhen ὧδεhōdehere ? ” γέγοναςgegonasdid You get
26ἈπεκρίθηApekrithēreplied αὐτοῖςautois. . . ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus καὶkai. . . εἶπενeipen. . . , ἈμὴνAmēn“ Truly , ἈμὴνAmēn“ Truly , λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , ζητεῖτέzēteite[that] you are looking for μεmeMe , οὐχouch[it is] not ὅτιhotibecause εἴδετεeideteyou saw σημεῖαsēmeia[these] signs ἀλλ’all’but ὅτιhotibecause ἐφάγετεephageteyou ate ἐκek. . . τῶνtōnthe ἄρτωνartōnloaves καὶkaiand ἐχορτάσθητεechortasthētehad your fill .
27ἐργάζεσθεergazesthework [for] μὴ{Do} not τὴνtēn- βρῶσινbrōsinfood τὴνtēnthat ἀπολλυμένηνapollymenēnperishes , ἀλλὰallabut [for] τὴνtēn- βρῶσινbrōsinfood τὴνtēnthat μένουσανmenousanendures εἰςeisto ζωὴνzōēnlife , αἰώνιονaiōnioneternal ἣνhēnwhich hothe ΥἱὸςHuiosSon τοῦtou- ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouof Man ὑμῖνhyminyou . δώσειdōseiwill give τοῦτονtoutonon Him γὰρgarFor ho- ΠατὴρPatērFather ἐσφράγισενesphragisenhas placed His seal of approval . ” hothe ΘεόςTheosGod
28ΕἶπονEiponthey inquired οὖνounThen πρὸςpros- αὐτόνauton- , ΤίTi“ What ποιῶμενpoiōmenmust we do ἵναhinato ἐργαζώμεθαergazōmethaperform τὰtathe ἔργαergaworks τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God ? ”
29ἈπεκρίθηApekrithēreplied ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus καὶkai. . . εἶπενeipen. . . αὐτοῖςautois. . . , ΤοῦτόToutothis : ἐστιestiis τὸto“ The ἔργονergonwork τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God ἵναhinato πιστεύητεpisteuētebelieve εἰςeisin ὃνhonthe [One] ἀπέστειλενapesteilenhas sent . ” ἐκεῖνοςekeinosHe
30ΕἶπονEiponthey asked οὖνounSo αὐτῷautōHim , ΤίTi“ What οὖνounthen ποιεῖςpoieisperform , σὺsy{will} You σημεῖονsēmeionsign ἵναhinaso that ἴδωμενidōmenwe may see [it] καὶkaiand πιστεύσωμένpisteusōmenbelieve σοιsoiYou ? τίtiWhat ἐργάζῃergazēwill You do ?
31οἱhoi- πατέρεςpateresfathers ἡμῶνhēmōnOur τὸtothe μάνναmannamanna ἔφαγονephagonate ἐνenin τῇthe ἐρήμῳerēmōwilderness , καθώςkathōsas ἐστιestiis γεγραμμένονgegrammenonwritten : ἌρτονArtonbread ἐκekfrom τοῦtou- οὐρανοῦouranouheaven ἔδωκενedōken‘ He gave αὐτοῖςautoisthem φαγεῖνphageinto eat .’ ”
32ΕἶπενEipensaid οὖνoun- αὐτοῖςautoisto them , ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἈμὴνAmēn“ Truly , ἈμὴνAmēn“ Truly , λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , οὐou[it was] not ΜωϋσῆςMōusēsMoses δέδωκενdedōken[who] gave ὑμῖνhyminyou τὸνtonthe ἄρτονartonbread ἐκekfrom τοῦtou- οὐρανοῦouranouheaven , ἀλλ’all’but [it is] ho- ΠατήρPatērFather μουmouMy δίδωσινdidōsin[who] gives ὑμῖνhyminyou τὸνtonthe ἄρτονartonbread ἐκekfrom τοῦtou- οὐρανοῦouranouheaven . τὸνton- ἀληθινόνalēthinontrue
33hothe γὰρgarFor ἄρτοςartosbread τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God ἐστινestinis hoHe who καταβαίνωνkatabainōncomes down ἐκekfrom τοῦtou- οὐρανοῦouranouheaven καὶkaiand ζωὴνzōēnlife διδοὺςdidousgives τῷto the κόσμῳkosmōworld . ”
34ΕἶπονEiponthey said οὖνoun- πρὸςpros. . . αὐτόνauton. . . , ΚύριεKyrie“ Sir , ” πάντοτεpantoteat all times . ” δὸςdos“ give ἡμῖνhēminus τὸνton- ἄρτονartonbread τοῦτονtoutonthis
35εἰπὲeipesay δέdeAnd αὐτοῖςautois- , hothe ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἘγώEgō“ I εἰμιeimiam hothe ἄρτοςartosbread τῆςtēs- ζωῆςzōēsof life . hoWhoever ἐρχόμενοςerchomenoscomes πρὸςprosto μὴvvv οὐouvvv μὴvvv πεινάσῃpeinasēwill never hunger , καὶkaiand howhoever πιστεύωνpisteuōnbelieves εἰςeisin ἐμὲemeMe οὐouvvv μὴvvv διψήσειdipsēseiwill never thirst . πώποτεpōpotevvv
36ἀλλ’all’But εἶπονeipon[as] I stated ὑμῖνhymin. . . , ὅτιhoti- καὶkaivvv ἑωράκατέheōrakateyou have seen μεmeMe καὶkaiand still οὐou{you do} not πιστεύετεpisteuetebelieve .
37ΠᾶνPanEveryone ho. . . δίδωσίdidosi[God] gives μοιmoiMe hothe ΠατὴρPatērFather πρὸςprosto ἐμὲemeMe , ἥξειhēxeiwill come καὶkaiand τὸνtonthe [one who] ἐρχόμενονerchomenoncomes πρόςprosto μεmeMe οὐouvvv μὴvvv ἐκβάλωekbalōI will never drive ἔξωexōaway .
38ὅτιhotiFor καταβέβηκαkatabebēkaI have come down ἐκekfrom τοῦtou- οὐρανοῦouranouheaven οὐχouchnot ἵναhinato ποιῶpoiōdo τὸto- θέλημαthelēmawill , τὸto[own] ἐμὸνemonMy ἀλλὰallabut [to do] τὸtothe θέλημαthelēmawill τοῦtouof Him who πέμψαντόςpempsantossent μεmeMe .
39ΤοῦτοToutothis δέdeAnd ἐστιestiis τὸtothe θέλημαthelēmawill τοῦtouof Him who πέμψαντόςpempsantossent μεmeMe , ΠατρόςPatrosFather’s ἵναhinathat πᾶνpan- hothose δέδωκέdedokehas assigned μοιmoiMe , μὴnone ἀπολέσωapolesōI shall lose ἐξexof αὐτοῦautou- ἀλλὰallabut ἀναστήσωanastēsōraise them up αὐτὸauto. . . ἐνenat τῇthe ἐσχάτῃeschatēlast ἡμέρᾳhēmeraday .
40τοῦτοtoutoit δέdeAnd ἐστιestiis τὸtothe θέλημαthelēmawill τοῦtouof Him who πέμψαντόςpempsantossent μεmeMe , ἵναhinathat πᾶςpaseveryone howho θεωρῶνtheōrōnlooks to τὸνtonthe ΥἱὸνHuionSon καὶkaiand πιστεύωνpisteuōnbelieves εἰςeisin αὐτὸνautonHim ἔχῃechēshall have ζωὴνzōēnlife , αἰώνιονaiōnioneternal καὶkaiand ἀναστήσωanastēsōwill raise him up αὐτὸνauton. . . ἐγὼegōI τῇthe ἐσχάτῃeschatēlast ἡμέρᾳhēmeraday . ”
41ἘγόγγυζονEgongyzonbegan to grumble οὖνounAt this , οἱhoithe ἸουδαῖοιIoudaioiJews περὶperiabout αὐτοῦautou[Jesus] ὅτιhotibecause εἶπενeipenHe had said , ἘγώEgō“ I εἰμιeimiam hothe ἄρτοςartosbread hothat καταβὰςkatabascame down ἐκekfrom τοῦtou- οὐρανοῦouranouheaven . ”
42καὶkai- ἔλεγονelegonThey were asking , ΟὐχOuchnot οὗτόςhoutosthis ἐστινestin“ Is ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus , hothe υἱὸςhuiosson ἸωσήφIōsēphof Joseph , οὗhouwhose ἡμεῖςhēmeiswe οἴδαμενoidamenknow ? τὸνton- πατέραpaterafather καὶkaiand τὴνtēn- μητέραmēteramother πῶςpōsHow οὖνounAt this , λέγειlegeican He say , οὗτόςhoutosthis ὅτιhotibecause ἐκekfrom τοῦtou- οὐρανοῦouranouheaven . ” καταβέβηκαkatabebēka‘ I have come down
43ἈπεκρίθηApekrithēreplied οὖνounAt this , hothe ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus , καὶkai- εἶπενeipenHe had said , αὐτοῖςautois. . . . μεmeMe γογγύζετεgongyzetegrumbling μετ’met’among ἀλλήλωνallēlōnyourselves , ”
44οὐδεὶςoudeis“ No one δύναταιdynataican ἐλθεῖνeltheincome πρόςprosto μεmeMe ἐὰνeanunless μὴ. . . hothe ΠατὴρPatērFather howho πέμψαςpempsassent μεmeMe ἑλκύσῃhelkysēdraws αὐτόνautonhim , ΚαὶKai‘ And ἐγώegōI ἀναστήσωanastēsōwill raise him up αὐτὸνauton. . . ἐνenat τῇthe ἐσχάτῃeschatēlast ἡμέρᾳhēmeraday .
45ἔστιestiis γεγραμμένονgegrammenonwritten ἐνenin τοῖςtoisthe προφήταιςprophētaisProphets : ΚαὶKai‘ And ἔσονταιesontaithey will all be πάντεςpantes. . . διδακτοὶdidaktoitaught ΘεοῦTheouby God .’ πᾶςpasEveryone howho ἀκούωνakouōnhears παρὰparafrom [Him] τοῦtouthe ΠατρὸςPatrosFather καὶkaiand μαθὼνmathōnlearned ἔρχεταιerchetaicomes πρὸςprosto μὴ. . .
46οὐχouchnot ὅτιhotithat τὸνtonthe ΠατέραPateraFather τιςtisanyone ἑώρακένheōrakenhas seen εἰeiexcept μὴ. . . hothe [One who] ὢνōnis παρὰparafrom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouGod ; οὗτοςhoutos[only] He ἑώρακεeorakehe had seen τὸνtonthe ΠατέραPateraFather .
47ἈμὴνAmēnTruly , ἈμὴνAmēnTruly , λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , hohe who πιστεύωνpisteuōnbelieves εἰςeisvvv ἐμέemeMe — ἔχειecheihas ζωὴνzōēnlife . αἰώνιονaiōnioneternal
48ἐγώegōI εἰμιeimiam hothe ἄρτοςartosbread τῆςtēs- ζωῆςzōēsof life .
49οἱhoi- πατέρεςpateresfathers ὑμῶνhymōnYour ἔφαγονephagonate τὸtothe μάνναmannamanna ἐνenin τῇthe ἐρήμῳerēmōwilderness , καὶkaiyet ἀπέθανονapethanonthey died .
50οὗτόςhoutosThis ἐστινestinis hothe ἄρτοςartosbread hothat ἐκekfrom τοῦtou- οὐρανοῦouranouheaven , καταβαίνωνkatabainōncomes down ἵναhinaso that τιςtisanyone ἐξexof αὐτοῦautouit φάγῃphagēmay eat καὶkaiand μὴnot ἀποθάνῃapothanēdie .
