2ἐποίησανepoiēsanthey hosted οὖνounSo αὐτῷautōfor [Jesus] δεῖπνονdeipnona dinner ἐκεῖekeithere . καὶkai- - ΜάρθαMarthaMartha διηκόνειdiēkoneiserved , ho- δὲdeand ΛάζαροςLazarosLazarus εἷςheisamong ἦνēnwas ἐκek. . . τῶνtōnthose ἀνακειμένωνanakeimenōnreclining at the table σὺνsynwith αὐτῷautōHim .

4ΛέγειLegeiasked , οὖνoun- εἰςeisfor ἐκekof τῶνtōn- μαθητῶνmathētōndisciples , αὐτοῦautouHis ἸούδαςIoudasJudas ΣίμωνοςSimōnosto Simon ἸσκαριώτηςIskariōtēsIscariot , howho μέλλωνmellōnwas going αὐτὸνautonHim , παραδιδόναιparadidonaito betray
5διατίdiatiwhy τοῦτοtoutothis τὸto- μύρονmyronperfume οὐκoukwasn’t ἐπράθηeprathēsold τριακοσίωνtriakosiōnfor three hundred δηναρίωνdēnariōndenarii καὶkaiand [the money] ἐδόθηedothēgiven πτωχοῖςptōchoisto [the] poor ? ”
6εἰπὲeipesay δὲde- τοῦτοtoutothis οὐχouch. . . ὅτιhotibecause περὶperiabout τῶνtōnthe πτωχῶνptōchōnpoor , ἔμελενemelencared αὐτῷautōhe ἀλλ’all’but ὅτιhotibecause κλέπτηςkleptēsa thief . ἦνēnhe was καὶkai- τὸtoof the γλωσσόκομονglōssokomonmoney bag , εἶχεeikhewho had καὶkai- τὰtafrom what βαλλόμεναballomenawas put into [it] . ἐβάσταζενebastazenhe used to take
7ΕἶπενEipenreplied . οὖνoun- ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἌφεςAphes“ Leave her alone αὐτήνautēn. . . , ” εἰςeisfor τὴνtēnthe ἡμέρανhēmeranday τοῦtouof ἐνταφιασμοῦentaphiasmouburial . μουmouMy τετήρηκενteterekenkeeps αὐτόauto[this perfume]
8τοὺςtousThe πτωχοὺςptōchouspoor γὰρgar- πάντοτεpantote. . . ἔχετεecheteyou will always have μεθ’meth’with ἑαυτῶνheautōnyou , ἐμὲemeMe . ” δὲdebut οὐou{you will} not πάντοτεpantotealways ἔχετεechetehave
9ἜγνωEgnōlearned οὖνounMeanwhile ὄχλοςochloscrowd πολὺςpolysa large ἐκekof τῶνtōn- ἸουδαίωνIoudaiōnJews ὅτιhotithat ἐκεῖekeithere . ἐστι,estiis καὶkaiAnd ἦλθονēlthonthey came οὐounot διὰdiabecause of τὸνton- ἸησοῦνIēsoun[Him] , μόνονmonononly ἀλλ’all’but ἵναhinato καὶkaialso τὸνton- ΛάζαρονLazaronLazarus , ἴδωσινidōsinsee ὃνhonwhom ἤγειρενēgeirenHe had raised ἐκekfrom νεκρῶνnekrōn[the] dead .
10ἐβουλεύσαντοebouleusantomade plans δὲde[So] οἱhoithe ἀρχιερεῖςarchiereischief priests ἵναhinato καὶkaias well , τὸνton- ΛάζαρονLazaronLazarus ἀποκτείνωσινapokteinōsinkill
11ὅτιhotifor πολλοὶpolloimany δι’di’on account of αὐτὸνautonhim ὑπῆγονhypēgonwere deserting [them] τῶνtōnof the ἸουδαίωνIoudaiōnJews καὶkaiand ἐπίστευονepisteuonbelieving εἰςeisin τὸνton- ἸησοῦνIēsounJesus .
12ΤῇThe ἐπαύριονepaurionnext day hothe ὄχλοςochloscrowd πολὺςpolysgreat hothe ἐλθὼνelthōnhad come εἰςeisto τὴνtēnthe ἑορτήνheortēnfeast ἀκούσαντεςakousantesheard ὅτιhotithat ἔρχεταιerchetaiwas coming ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἰςeisto ἹεροσόλυμαHierosolymaJerusalem .
13ἔλαβονelabonThey took τὰta- βαΐαbaiabranches τῶνtōn- φοινίκωνphoinikōnpalm καὶkaiand ἐξῆλθονexēlthonwent out εἰςeisto ὑπάντησινhypantēsinmeet αὐτῷautōHim , καὶkai- ἐκραύγαζονekraugazonshouting : ὩσαννάHōsanna“ Hosanna !” ΕὐλογημένοςEulogēmenos“ Blessed is hoHe who ἐρχόμενοςerchomenoscomes ἐνenin ὀνόματιonomati[the] name ΚυρίουKyriouof [the] Lord !” hothe ΒασιλεὺςBasileusKing τοῦtou- ἸσραήλIsraēlof Israel !”
14ΕὑρὼνHeurōnFinding δὲde- ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ὀνάριονonariona young donkey , ἐκάθισενekathisensat ἐπ’ep’on αὐτόautoit , καθώςkathōsas ἐστιestiis γεγραμμένονgegrammenonwritten :
15Μὴ. . . , φοβοῦphobou“ Do not be afraid θυγάτηρthygatērO Daughter ΣιώνSiōnof Zion . ἰδοὺidouSee , ho- ΒασιλεύςBasileusKing σουsouyour ἔρχεταιerchetaiis coming , καθήμενοςkathēmenosseated ἐπὶepion πῶλονpōlonthe colt ὄνουonouof a donkey .”
16ΤαῦταTautathese things , δὲde- οὐκouk{did} not ἔγνωσανegnōsanunderstand οἱhoi- μαθηταὶmathētaidisciples αὐτοῦautouHis τὸtovvv πρῶτονprōtonAt first ἀλλ’all’but ὅτεhoteafter ἐδοξάσθηedoxasthēwas glorified ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus τότεtote- ἐμνήσθησανemnēsthēsanthey remembered ὅτιhoti[ and they realized] that ταῦταtautathese very things ἦνēnhad ἐπ’ep’about αὐτῷautōHim . γεγραμμέναgegrammena{been} written καὶkaialso ταῦταtautathese very things ἐποίησανepoiēsanwhat had been done αὐτῷautōto Him ,
17ἘμαρτύρειEmartyreicontinued to testify οὖνounMeanwhile , ho- ὄχλοςochlosmany people ho- ὢνōnthey had been μετ’met’with αὐτοῦautou[Jesus] ὅτεhotewhen τὸνton- ΛάζαρονLazaronLazarus ἐφώνησενephōnēsenHe called ἐκekfrom τοῦtouthe μνημείουmnēmeioutomb καὶkaiand ἤγειρενēgeirenraised αὐτὸνautonhim ἐκekfrom νεκρῶνnekrōn[the] dead .
18διὰdiaThat is also why τοῦτοtouto. . . καὶkai. . . ὑπήντησενhypēntēsenwent out to meet αὐτῷautōHim , hothe ὄχλοςochloscrowd ὅτιhotibecause ἤκουσανēkousanthey heard that τοῦτοtoutothis αὐτὸνautonHe πεποιηκέναιpepoiēkenaihad performed τὸto- σημεῖονsēmeionsign .
19ΟἱHoithe οὖνounThen ΦαρισαῖοιPharisaioiPharisees εἰπὼνeipōnHe said πρὸςprosto ἑαυτούςheautousone another , ΘεωρεῖτεTheōreite“ You can see ὅτιhotithat οὐκouk. . . ὠφελεῖτεōpheleitethis is doing you no good οὐδένouden. . . . ἴδεideLook [how] hothe κόσμοςkosmoswhole world ὀπίσωopisōafter αὐτοῦautouHim ! ” ἀπῆλθενapēlthenhas gone
20ἮσανĒsanthere were δὲdeNow τινεςtinessome ἝλληνέςHellēnesGreeks ἐκekamong τῶνtōnthose who ἀναβαινόντωνanabainontōnwent up ἵναhinato προσκυνήσωσινproskynēsōsinworship ἐνenat τῇthe ἑορτῇheortēfeast .
21οὗτοιhoutoiThey οὖνoun- προσῆλθονprosēlthoncame ΦιλίππῳPhilippōto Philip , τῷwho was ἀπὸapofrom ΒηθσαϊδὰBēthsaidaBethsaida τῆςtēs- ΓαλιλαίαςGalilaiasin Galilee , καὶkaiand ἠρώτωνērōtōnrequested αὐτὸνautonof him λέγοντεςlegontes. . . , ΚύριεKyrie“ Sir , θέλομενthelomenwe want τὸνton- ἸησοῦνIēsounJesus . ” ἰδεῖνideinto see
22ἔρχεταιerchetai- ΦίλιπποςPhilipposPhilip καὶkai- λέγειlegeirelayed [this appeal] τῷ- ἈνδρέᾳAndreato Andrew , καὶkai. . . πάλινpalinagain . ” ἈνδρέαςAndreas[and both of them] καὶkai. . . ΦίλιπποςPhilippos. . . καὶkai. . . λέγουσιlegousisay τῷ- ἸησοῦIēsouJesus .
23Ho- δὲdeBut ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἀπεκρίνατοapekrinatogave no answer αὐτοῖςautois. . . λέγωνlegōn. . . , ἘλήλυθενElēlythenhas come “ The ὥραhōrahour ἵναhinafor δοξασθῇdoxasthēto be glorified . hothe ΥἱὸςHuiosSon τοῦtou- ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouof Man
24ἀμὴνamēnTruly , ἀμὴνamēnTruly , λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , ἐὰνeanunless μὴ. . . ho- κόκκοςkokkosa kernel τοῦtou- σίτουsitouof wheat πεσὼνpesōnfalls εἰςeisto τὴνtēnthe γῆνgēnground ἀποθάνῃapothanē[and] dies , αὐτὸςautosit μόνοςmonosonly [a seed] ; μένειmeneiremains ἐὰνeanif δὲdebut ἀποθάνῃapothanēit dies , πολὺνpolynmuch καρπὸνkarponfruit . φέρειphereiit bears
25hoWhoever φιλῶνphilōnloves τὴνtēn- ψυχὴνpsychēnlife αὐτοῦautouhis ἀπολέσειapoleseiwill lose αὐτήνautēnit , καὶkai[but] howhoever μισῶνmisōnhates τὴνtēn- ψυχὴνpsychēnlife αὐτοῦautouhis ἐνenin τῷ- κόσμῳkosmōworld τούτῳtoutōthis εἰςeisfor ζωὴνzōēnlife . αἰώνιονaiōnioneternal φυλάξειphylaxeiwill keep αὐτήνautēnit
26ἐὰνeanIf ἐμοίemoiMe , διακονῇdiakonēserves τιςtisanyone ἐμοίemoiMe , ἀκολουθείτωakoloutheitōhe must follow καὶkaiand ὅπουhopouwhere εἰμὶeimiam , ἐγὼegōI ἐκεῖekei- καὶkaiand ho- διάκονοςdiakonosservant ho- ἐμὸςemosMy ἔσταιestaiwill be καὶkaias well . ἐάνeanIf τιςtisanyone ἐμοὶemoiMe , διακονῇdiakonēserves τιμήσειtimēseiwill honor αὐτὸνautonhim . hothe ΠατήρPatērFather
27ΝῦνNynNow - ψυχήpsychēsoul μουmouMy τετάρακταιtetaraktaiis troubled , καὶkaiand τίtiwhat εἴπωeipōshall I say ? ΠάτερPater‘ Father , σῶσόνsōsonsave μεmeMe ἐκekfrom τῆςtēs- ὥραςhōrashour ’? ταύτηςtautēsthis ἀλλὰallaNo , διὰdiait is for this purpose τοῦτοtouto. . . ἦλθονēlthonthat I have come εἰςeisto τὴνtēn- ὥρανhōranhour . ταύτηνtautēnthis
28ΠάτερPaterFather , δόξασόνdoxasonglorify σουsouYour τὸto- ὄνομαonomaname ! ” ἮλθενĒlthencame οὖνounThen φωνὴphōnēa voice ἐκekfrom τοῦtou- οὐρανοῦouranouheaven : ΚαὶKai- ἐδόξασαedoxasa“ I have glorified [it] , καὶkaiand πάλινpalinagain . ” δοξάσωdoxasōI will glorify [it]
29HoThe οὖνoun- ὄχλοςochloscrowd ho- ἑστὼςhestōsstanding [there] καὶkai- ἀκούσαςakousasheard [it] ἔλεγεelege[Jesus] declared ΒροντὴνBrontēnthundered . γεγονέναιgegonenaiit had ἄλλοιalloiOthers ἔλεγονelegonsaid that ἌγγελοςAngelosan angel αὐτῷautōto Him . λελάληκενlelalēkenhad spoken
30ἈπεκρίθηApekrithēIn response ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus καὶkai. . . , εἶπενeipensaid , ΟὐOunot δι’di’for My benefit ἐμὲeme. . . , αὕτηhautē“ This - φωνὴphōnēvoice γέγονενgegonenwas ἀλλὰallabut δι’di’- ὑμᾶςhymasyours .
31νῦνnynNow κρίσιςkrisisjudgment ἐστὶestiis τοῦtou- κόσμουkosmouworld ; τούτουtoutouupon this νῦνnynnow hothe ἄρχωνarchōnprince τοῦtou- κόσμουkosmouworld τούτουtoutouof this ἐκβληθήσεταιekblēthēsetaiwill be cast ἔξωexōout .
32κἀγὼkagōAnd I , ἐὰνeanwhen ὑψωθῶhypsōthōI am lifted up ἐκekfrom τῆςtēsthe γῆςgēsearth , πάνταςpantaseveryone ἑλκύσωhelkysōwill draw πρὸςprosto ἐμαυτόνemautonMyself . ”
33τοῦτοtoutothis δὲde- ἔλεγενelegenHe said σημαίνωνsēmainōnto indicate ποίῳpoiōthe kind of θανάτῳthanatōdeath ἤμελλενēmellenHe was going ἀποθνήσκεινapothnēskeinto die .
34ἈπεκρίθηApekrithēreplied αὐτῷautō- , hoThe ὄχλοςochloscrowd ἩμεῖςHēmeis“ We ἠκούσαμενēkousamenhave heard ἐκekfrom τοῦtouthe νόμουnomouLaw ὅτιhotithat hothe ΧριστὸςChristosChrist μένειmeneiwill remain εἰςeisvvv τὸνtonvvv αἰῶναaiōnaforever . καὶkai[So] πῶςpōshow σὺsy{can} you λέγειςlegeissay δεῖdeimust ὑψωθῆναιhypsōthēnaibe lifted up ? τὸνtonthe ΥἱὸνHuionSon τοῦtou- ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouof Man τίςtisWho ἐστινestinis οὗτοςhoutosthis ho- ΥἱὸςHuiosSon τοῦtou- ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouof Man ? ”
35ΕἶπενEipentold οὖνounThen αὐτοῖςautoisthem , ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἜτιEti“ [For] μικρὸνmikrona little χρόνονchrononwhile longer , τὸtothe φῶςphōsLight μεθ’meth’with ὑμῶνhymōnyour ἐστι·estiis περιπατεῖτεperipateiteWalk ἕωςheōsuntil τὸtothe φῶςphōsLight , ἔχετεecheteyou have ἵναhinaso that μὴvvv σκοτίαskotiadarkness ὑμᾶςhymasyou . καταλάβῃkatalabēwill not overtake καὶkai- hoThe [one who] περιπατῶνperipatōnwalks ἐνenin τῇthe σκοτίᾳskotiadarkness οὐκouk{does} not οἶδενoidenknow ποῦpouwhere ὑπάγειhypageihe is going .
36ἕωςheōsuntil τὸtothe φῶςphōsLight , ἔχετεecheteyou have πιστεύετεpisteuetebelieve εἰςeisin τὸtothe φῶςphōsLight , ἵναhinaso that υἱοὶhuioisons φωτὸςphōtosof light . ” γένησθεgenēstheyou may become ΤαῦταTautathese things , ἐλάλησενelalēsenhad spoken ἸησοῦςIēsous[After] Jesus καὶkai- ἀπελθὼνapelthōnHe went away ἐκρύβηekrybē[and] was hidden ἀπ’ap’from αὐτῶνautōnthem .
37ΤοσαῦταTosautaso many δὲdeAlthough αὐτοῦautou[Jesus] σημεῖαsēmeiasigns πεποιηκότοςpepoiēkotoshad performed ἔμπροσθενemprosthenin their presence αὐτῶνautōn. . . , οὐκoukvvv ἐπίστευονepisteuonthey still did not believe εἰςeisin αὐτόνautonHim .
38ἵναhinaThis was hothe λόγοςlogosword ἨσαΐουĒsaiouof Isaiah τοῦtouthe προφήτουprophētouprophet πληρωθῇplērōthēto fulfill ὃνhon- εἰπὲeipesay ΚύριεKyrie“ Lord , τίςtiswho ἐπίστευσεepisteusetook τῇ- ἀκοῇakoēmessage ? ἡμῶνhēmōnour καὶkaiAnd ho{has} the βραχίωνbrachiōnarm ΚυρίουKyriouof [the] Lord τίνιtinito whom ἀπεκαλύφθηapekalyphthēbeen revealed ?”
39ΔιὰDiaFor this reason τοῦτοtouto. . . οὐκouk. . . ἠδύναντοēdynantothey were unable πιστεύεινpisteueinto believe . ὅτιhotiFor πάλινpalinagain , εἶπενeipensays : ἨσαΐαςĒsaiasIsaiah
40ΤετύφλωκενTetyphlōken“ He has blinded αὐτῶνautōntheir τοὺςtous- ὀφθαλμοὺςophthalmouseyes καὶkaiand πεπώρωκενpeporokenhardened αὐτῶνautōntheir τὴνtēn- καρδίανkardianhearts , ἵναhinaso that μὴvvv ἴδωσιidosithey see τοῖςtoiswith [their] ὀφθαλμοῖςophthalmoiseyes , καὶkaiand νοήσωσιnoesosiunderstand τῇwith [their] καρδίᾳkardiahearts , καὶkaiand ἐπιστραφῶσι,epistraphositurn , καὶkaiand ἰάσομαιiasomaiI would heal αὐτούςautousthem .”
41ΤαῦταTautathese things εἶπενeipensaid ἨσαΐαςĒsaiasIsaiah ὅτεhotewhen εἶδενeidenhe saw τὴνtēn- δόξανdoxanglory αὐτοῦautou[Jesus’] καὶkaiand ἐλάλησεelaleseHe promised περὶperiabout αὐτοῦautouHim .
42ὅμωςhomōsNevertheless μέντοιmentoi. . . καὶkai. . . , ἐκekof τῶνtōnthe ἀρχόντωνarchontōnleaders πολλοὶpolloimany ἐπίστευσανepisteusanbelieved εἰςeisin αὐτόνautonHim ; ἀλλὰallabut διὰdiabecause of τοὺςtousthe ΦαρισαίουςPharisaiousPharisees οὐχouchvvv ὡμολόγουνhōmologounthey did not confess [Him] , ἵναhinafor fear that μὴ. . . ἀποσυνάγωγοιaposynagōgoiput out of the synagogue . γένωνταιgenōntaithey would be
43ἠγάπησανēgapēsanthey loved γὰρgarFor τὴνtēn- δόξανdoxanpraise τῶνtōn- ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnfrom men μᾶλλονmallonmore ἤπερēperthan τὴνtēn- δόξανdoxanpraise τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheoufrom God .
44ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus δὲdeThen ἔκραξεekraxecried out καὶkai. . . εἶπενeipen. . . , Ho“ Whoever πιστεύωνpisteuōnbelieves εἰςeisin ἐμὲemeMe οὐou{does} not πιστεύειpisteueibelieve εἰςeisin ἐμὲemeMe [alone] , ἀλλ’all’but εἰςeisin τὸνtonthe πέμψαντάpempsantasent μεmeMe .
45καὶkaiAnd howhoever θεωρῶνtheōrōnsees ἐμὲemeMe θεωρεῖtheōreisees τὸνtonthe [One who] πέμψαντάpempsantasent μεmeMe .
46ἐγὼegōI φῶςphōs[as] a light , εἰςeisinto τὸνtonthe κόσμονkosmonworld ἐλήλυθαelēlythahave come ἵναhinaso that πᾶςpasvvv howho πιστεύωνpisteuōnbelieves εἰςeisin ἐμὲemeMe ἐνenin τῇ- σκοτίᾳskotiadarkness . μὴno one μείνῃmeinēshould remain
47ΚαὶKai- ἐάνeanAs for τίςtisanyone who μουmouMy ἀκούσῃakousēhears τῶνtōn- ῥημάτωνrhēmatōnwords καὶkaiand μὴ{does} not πιστεύσῃ,pisteusebelieves ἐγὼegōI οὐou{do} not κρίνωkrinōjudge αὐτόνautonhim . οὐouvvv γὰρgarFor ἦλθονēlthonI have not come ἵναhinato κρίνωkrinōjudge τὸνtonthe κόσμονkosmonworld , ἀλλ’all’but ἵναhinato σώσωsōsōsave τὸνtonthe κόσμονkosmonworld .
48hothe [one who] ἀθετῶνathetōnrejects ἐμὲemeMe καὶkaiand μὴvvv λαμβάνωνlambanōndoes not receive τὰta- ῥήματάrhēmatawords : μουmouMy ἔχειecheiThere is τὸνton- κρίνονταkrinontaa judge αὐτόνauton[for] hothe [one who] λόγοςlogosword ὃνhonthat ἐλάλησαelalēsaI have spoken ἐκεῖνοςekeinos- κρινεῖkrineiwill judge αὐτὸνautonhim ἐνenon τῇthe ἐσχάτῃeschatēlast ἡμέρᾳhēmeraday .
49ὍτιHoti- ἐγὼegōI ἐξexon ἐμαυτοῦemautouMy own , οὐκouk{have} not ἐλάλησαelalēsaspoken ἀλλ’all’but hothe πέμψαςpempsas[who] sent μεmeMe ΠατὴρPatērFather αὐτόςautos- μοιmoivvv ἐντολὴνentolēnhas commanded Me ἔδωκεedokegave [it] τίtiwhat εἴπωeipōto say καὶkaiand τίtihow λαλήσωlalēsōto say it .
