1ΠαῦλοςPaulosPaul , δοῦλοςdoulosa servant ΘεοῦTheouof God ἀπόστολοςapostolosan apostle δὲdeand ἸησοῦIēsouof Jesus ΧριστοῦChristouChrist κατὰkatafor πίστινpistin[the] faith ἐκλεκτῶνeklektōnelect ΘεοῦTheouof God’s καὶkaiand ἐπίγνωσινepignōsin[their] knowledge ἀληθείαςalētheiasof [the] truth τῆςtēsthat κατ’kat’leads to εὐσέβειανeusebeiangodliness ,
2ἐπ’ep’in ἐλπίδιelpidi[the] hope ζωῆςzōēslife , αἰωνίουaiōniouof eternal ἣνhēnwhich ἐπηγγείλατοepēngeilatopromised ho- ἀψευδὴςapseudēswho cannot lie , ΘεὸςTheosGod , πρὸprobefore χρόνωνchronōntime αἰωνίωνaiōniōnbegan .
3ἐφανέρωσεephanerosehas made [it] plain δὲde. . . καιροῖςkairoistime ἰδίοιςidiois[In His] own τὸνton- λόγονlogonword {evident} αὐτοῦautouHis ἐνenin κηρύγματιkērygmati[the] proclamation hovvv ἐπιστεύθηνepisteuthēnentrusted ἐγὼegōto me κατ’kat’by ἐπιταγὴνepitagēn[the] command τοῦtou- ΣωτῆροςSōtērosSavior . ἡμῶνhēmōnour ΘεοῦTheouof God
4ΤίτῳTitōTo Titus , γνησίῳgnēsiō[my] true τέκνῳteknōchild κατὰkatain κοινὴνkoinēn[our] common πίστινpistinfaith : ΧάριςCharisGrace ἔλεοςeleosmercy εἰρήνηeirēnēpeace ἀπὸapofrom ΘεοῦTheouGod ΠατρὸςPatros[the] Father καὶkaiand ΚυρίουKyriouLord . ἸησοῦIēsouJesus ΧριστοῦChristouChrist τοῦtou- ΣωτῆροςSōtērosSavior . ἡμῶνhēmōnour
5ΤούτουToutou. . . χάρινcharinThe reason κατέλιπονkateliponleaving σεseyou ἐνenin ΚρήτῃKrētēCrete ἵναhina[was] that τὰtawhat was λείπονταleipontaunfinished ἐπιδιορθώσῃepidiorthōsēyou would set in order καὶkaiand καταστήσῃςkatastēsēsappoint κατὰkatain every πόλινpolintown , πρεσβυτέρουςpresbyterouselders ὡςhōsas ἐγώegōI σοιsoiyou . διεταξάμηνdietaxamēndirected
6εἴei[An elder must] τίςtis. . . ἐστινestinbe ἀνέγκλητοςanenklētosblameless , μιᾶςmiasof but one γυναικὸςgynaikoswife , ἀνήρanēr[the] husband τέκναteknachildren ἔχωνechōnhaving πιστάpistawho are believers μὴ[and who are] not ἐνenopen to κατηγορίᾳkatēgoriaaccusation ἀσωτίαςasōtiasof indiscretion ēor ἀνυπότακταanypotaktainsubordination .
7ΔεῖDeimust γὰρgar- τὸνton- ἐπίσκοπονepiskoponan overseer ἀνέγκλητονanenklētonabove reproach — εἶναιeinaibe ὡςhōsAs ΘεοῦTheouGod’s οἰκονόμονoikonomonsteward , μὴnot αὐθάδηauthadēself-absorbed , μὴnot ὀργίλονorgilonquick-tempered , μὴnot πάροινονparoinongiven to drunkenness , μὴnot πλήκτηνplēktēnviolent , μὴnot αἰσχροκερδῆaischrokerdēgreedy for money .
8ἀλλὰallaInstead , φιλόξενονphiloxenon[he must be] hospitable , φιλάγαθονphilagathona lover of good , σώφροναsōphronaself-controlled , δίκαιονdikaionupright , ὅσιονhosionholy , ἐγκρατῆenkratē[and] disciplined .
9ἀντεχόμενονantechomenonHe must hold firmly τοῦtouto the κατὰkataas τὴνtēn- διδαχὴνdidachēnit was taught , πιστοῦpistoufaithful λόγουlogouword ἵναhinaso that δυνατὸςdynatos. . . ēhe can καὶkai. . . παρακαλεῖνparakaleinencourage [others] ἐνenby τῇ- διδασκαλίᾳdidaskaliateaching τῇ- ὑγιαινούσῃhygiainousēsound καὶkaiand τοὺςtousthose who ἀντιλέγονταςantilegontascontradict [it] . ἐλέγχεινelencheinrefute
10Εἰσὶeisiare γὰρgarFor πολλοὶpolloimany ‹καὶ›kaiand ἀνυπότακτοιanypotaktoirebellious ματαιολόγοιmataiologoifull of empty talk καὶkaiand φρεναπάταιphrenapataideception , μάλισταmalistaespecially οἱhoithose ἐκekof περιτομῆςperitomēscircumcision ,
11οὓςhouswho δεῖdeimust ἐπιστομίζεινepistomizeinbe silenced . οἵτινεςhoitines[they] ὅλουςholousentire οἴκουςoikoushouseholds ἀνατρέπουσιanatrepousiundermine διδάσκοντεςdidaskontes[and] teach hathings μὴnot . δεῖdeithey should αἰσχροῦaischroudishonorable κέρδουςkerdousgain , χάρινcharinFor [the] sake of
12εἰπὲeipesay τιςtis[As] one ἐξexof αὐτῶνautōn- ἴδιοςidiosown αὐτῶνautōntheir προφήτηςprophētēsprophets ΚρῆτεςKrētes“ Cretans ἀεὶaei[are] always ψεῦσταιpseustailiars , κακὰkakaevil θηρίαthēriabeasts , γαστέρεςgasteresgluttons .” ἀργαίargailazy
13- μαρτυρίαmartyriatestimony αὕτηhautēThis ἐστὶνestinis ἀληθήςalēthēstrue . δι’di’vvv ἣνhēnvvv αἰτίανaitianTherefore ἔλεγχεelencherebuke αὐτοὺςautousthem ἀποτόμωςapotomōssternly , ἵναhinaso that ὑγιαίνωσινhygiainōsinthey will be sound ἐνenin τῇthe πίστειpisteifaith
14μὴvvv προσέχοντεςprosechontes[and] will pay no attention ἸουδαϊκοῖςIoudaikoisto Jewish μύθοιςmythoismyths καὶkai[or] ἐντολαῖςentolais[to the] commands ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnof men ἀποστρεφομένωνapostrephomenōnwho have rejected τὴνtēnthe ἀλήθειανalētheiantruth .
15ΠάνταPantaall things [are] μὴνmēnmonth . καθαρὰkatharapure ; τοῖςtoisto the καθαροῖςkatharoispure , τοῖςtoisTo the δὲdebut μεμιαμμένοιςmemiammenoisdefiled καὶkaiand ἀπίστοιςapistoisunbelieving , οὐδὲνoudennothing καθαρόνkatharon[is] pure . ἀλλὰallaIndeed , μεμίανταιmemiantaiare defiled . αὐτῶνautōntheir καὶkaiboth ho- νοῦςnousminds καὶkaiand [their] συνείδησιςsyneidēsisconsciences
16ΘεὸνTheonGod , ὁμολογοῦσινhomologousinThey profess εἰδέναιeidenaito know τοῖςtoisby [their] δὲdebut ἔργοιςergoisactions ἀρνοῦνταιarnountaithey deny [Him] . βδελυκτοὶbdelyktoidetestable , ὄντεςontesThey are καὶkai- ἀπειθεῖςapeitheisdisobedient , καὶkaiand πρὸςprosfor πᾶνpanany ἔργονergondeed . ἀγαθὸνagathongood ἀδόκιμοιadokimoiunfit
