2καὶkai- ἠκολούθησανēkolouthēsanfollowed αὐτῷautōHim , ὄχλοιochloicrowds πολλοίpolloiLarge καὶkai- ἐθεράπευσενetherapeusenHe healed αὐτοὺςautousthem ἐκεῖekeithere .
3ΚαὶKaiThen προσῆλθονprosēlthoncame αὐτῷautō- οἱhoithe ΦαρισαῖοιPharisaioi[some] Pharisees πειράζοντεςpeirazontes[and] tested αὐτὸνautonHim καὶkai- λέγοντεςlegontesby asking αὐτῷautō- ΕἰEivvv , ἔξεστινexestin“ Is it lawful ‹ἀνθρώπῳ›anthrōpōfor a man ἀπολῦσαιapolysaito divorce τὴνtēn- γυναῖκαgynaikawife αὐτοῦautouhis κατὰkatafor πᾶσανpasanany αἰτίανaitianreason ? ”
4Ho- δὲde- ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheis[Jesus] answered εἶπενeipen- , αὐτοῖςautois- ΟὐκOuk“ vvv ἀνέγνωτεanegnōteHave you not read ὅτιhotithat hothe ποιήσαςpoiēsasact on them ἀπ’ap’from ἀρχῆςarchēs[the] beginning ἌρσενArsenmale καὶkaiand θῆλυthēlyfemale , ’ ἐποίησενepoiēsen‘ made αὐτοὺςautousthem καὶkaiand εἶπενeipensaid ,
5ἕνεκενhenekenfor the sake of τούτουtoutou. . . καταλείψειkataleipseiwill leave ἄνθρωποςanthrōposa man τὸνton[his] πατέραpaterafather αὐτοῦautouhis καὶkaiand τὴνtēn- μητέραmēteramother καὶkaiand κολληθήσεταιkollēthēsetaibe united to τῇ- γυναικὶgynaikiwife , αὐτοῦautouhis καὶkaiand ἔσονταιesontaiwill become οἱhoithe δύοdyotwo εἰςeis. . . σάρκαsarkaflesh ’ ? μίανmianone
6ὥστεhōsteSo οὐκέτιouketino longer εἰσὶeisiare δύοdyotwo , ἀλλὰallabut σὰρξsarxflesh . μίαmiaone howhat οὖνounTherefore howhat ΘεὸςTheosGod συνέζευξενsynezeuxenhas joined together , ἄνθρωποςanthrōpos[let] man μὴnot χωριζέτωchōrizetōseparate . ”
7ΛέγουσινLegousinthey asked αὐτῷautō- , ΤίTi“ Why οὖνounthen , ” ΜωσῆςmosesMoses ἐνετείλατοeneteilatoorder [a man] δοῦναιdounaito give [his wife] βιβλίονbibliona certificate ἀποστασίουapostasiouof divorce καὶkaiand ἀπολῦσαιapolysaisend [her] away ‹αὐτήν›autēn. . . ? ”
8ΛέγειLegeiJesus replied αὐτοῖςautois- ὍτιHoti- , ΜωσῆςmosesMoses πρὸςprosbecause of τὴνtēn- σκληροκαρδίανsklērokardianhardness of heart ; ὑμῶνhymōnyour ἐπέτρεψενepetrepsenpermitted ὑμῖνhyminyou ἀπολῦσαιapolysaito divorce τὰςtas- γυναῖκαςgynaikaswives ὑμῶνhymōnyour ἀπ’ap’from ἀρχῆςarchēs[the] beginning . δὲdeNow οὐounot γέγονενgegonen[it] was οὕτω.outo[this]
9λέγωlegōI tell δὲdeNow ὑμῖνhyminyou ὅτιhotithat ὃςhoswhoever ἂνan. . . ἀπολύσῃapolysēdivorces τὴνtēn- γυναῖκαgynaikawife , αὐτοῦautouhis μὴexcept ἐπὶepifor πορνείᾳporneiasexual immorality , καὶkaiand γαμήσῃgamēsēmarries ἄλληνallēnanother woman , μοιχᾶταιmoichataicommits adultery . ” καὶkaiand Ho- ἀπολελυμένηνapolelymenēna divorced woman γαμήσαςgamesasmarries μοιχᾶταιmoichataicommits adultery . ”
10ΛέγουσινLegousinsaid αὐτῷautōto Him , οἱhoi- μαθηταίmathētaidisciples [αὐτοῦ]autouHis ΕἰEi“ If οὕτωςhoutōsthis ἐστὶνestinis the αἰτίαaitiacase τοῦtoubetween ἀνθρώπουanthrōpoua man μετὰmeta[and] τῆςtēs[his] γυναικόςgynaikoswife , οὐounot συμφέρειsymphereiit is better γαμῆσαιgamēsaito marry . ”
11Ho- δὲde- εἶπενeipenHe replied αὐτοῖςautois. . . , ΟὐOu“ Not πάντεςpanteseveryone χωροῦσιkhorousican accept τὸνton- λόγονlogonword , ” τοῦτονtoutonthis ἀλλ’all’“ but only [those] οἷςhoisto whom δέδοταιdedotaiit has been given .
12εἰσὶeisiare γὰρgarFor εὐνοῦχοιeunouchoieunuchs οἵτινεςhoitineswho ἐκekvvv κοιλίαςkoiliasvvv μητρὸςmētrosvvv ἐγεννήθησανegennēthēsanwere born οὕτω·outo[this] καὶkai- εἰσὶνeisin- εὐνοῦχοιeunouchoi[others] οἵτινεςhoitines- εὐνουχίσθησανeunouchisthēsanwere made [that way] ὑπὸhypoby τῶνtōn- ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnmen ; καὶkaiand εἰσὶνeisin- εὐνοῦχοιeunouchoi[still others] οἵτινεςhoitines- εὐνούχισανeunouchisanlive like eunuchs ἑαυτοὺςheautousvvv διὰdiafor the sake of τὴνtēnthe βασιλείανbasileiankingdom τῶνtōnof οὐρανῶνouranōnheaven . hoThe [one] δυνάμενοςdynamenoswho can χωρεῖνchōreinaccept [this] χωρείτωchōreitōshould accept [it] . ”
13ΤότεToteThen προσηνέχθηprosēnechthēwas brought αὐτῷautōto [Jesus] παιδίαpaidia[the] little children ἵναhinafor ἐπιθῇepithēHim to place αὐτοῖςautoison them τὰςtas- χεῖραςcheiras[His] hands καὶkaiand προσεύξηταιproseuxētaipray [for them] . οἱhoithe δὲdeAnd μαθηταὶmathētaidisciples ἐπετίμησανepetimēsanrebuked αὐτοῖςautoisthose [who brought them] .
14ho- δὲdeBut ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἶπενeipensaid , ἌφετεAphete“ Let τὰtathe παιδίαpaidialittle children καὶkaiand μὴvvv κωλύετεkōlyetedo not hinder αὐτὰautathem ! ἐλθεῖνeltheincome πρόςprosto μεmeMe , τῶνtōnof γὰρgarFor τοιούτωνtoioutōnsuch as these . ” ἐστὶνestinbelongs the βασιλείαbasileiakingdom τῶνtōnof οὐρανῶνouranōnheaven
15καὶkaiAnd ἐπιθεὶςepitheisafter He had placed τὰςtas[His] χεῖραςcheirashands αὐτοῖςautoison them , ἐπορεύθηeporeuthēHe went on ἐκεῖθενekeithenfrom there .
16ΚαὶKaiJust then ἰδοὺidou. . . εἷςheisa man προσελθὼνproselthōncame up εἶπενeipen[and] inquired , αὐτῷautōto [Jesus] ΔιδάσκαλεDidaskale“ Teacher , ἀγαθῇagathēgood τίtiwhat ἀγαθὸνagathongood [thing] ποιήσωpoiēsōmust I do ἵναhinato ἔχωechōI have ζωὴνzōēnlife ? ” αἰώνιονaiōnioneternal
17Ho- δὲde- εἶπενeipen[Jesus] replied αὐτῷautō. . . . ΤίTi“ Why μεmeMe λέγειςlegeis“ are You addressing ἀγαθὸνagathongood [thing] ΟὐδείςOudeisno one ἀγαθόςagathosgood . εἰeiIf μεmeMe εἷςheisonly One howho is ΘεὸςTheosGod ΕἰEi“ If δὲde- θέλειςtheleisyou want εἰσελθεῖνeiseltheinto enter εἰςeis. . . τὴνtēn- ζωὴνzōēnlife , τήρησον*tērēsonkeep τὰςtasthe ἐντολάςentolascommandments . ”
18ΛέγειLegei[the man] asked αὐτῷautō. . . . ΠοίαςPoias“ Which [ones] ? ” Ho- δὲde- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἰπὲeipesay ΤὸTo- ΟὐOuvvv φονεύσειςphoneuseis“‘ Do not murder , ΟὐOuvvv μοιχεύσειςmoicheuseisdo not commit adultery , ΟὐOuvvv κλέψειςklepseisdo not steal , ΟὐOuvvv ψευδομαρτυρήσειςpseudomartyrēseisdo not bear false witness ,
19ΤίμαTimahonor τὸνton[your] πατέραpaterafather καὶkaiand τὴνtēn- μητέραmēteramother , καὶkaiand ἈγαπήσειςAgapēseislove τὸνton- πλησίονplēsionneighbor σουsouyour ὡςhōsas σεαυτόνseautonyourself .’ ”
20ΛέγειLegeisaid αὐτῷautō. . . . hothe νεανίσκοςneaniskosyoung man πάνταpantaAll these ΤαῦταTauta“ vvv ἐφυλαξάμηνephulaxamenI have kept ἐκekvvv νεότητοςneotētosyouth , ” μου*mouMy τίtiWhat ἔτιetivvv ὑστερῶhysterōdo I still lack ? ”
21ἜφηEphētold αὐτῷautōhim , ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ΕἰEi“ If θέλειςtheleisyou want τέλειοςteleiosperfect , εἶναιeinaito be ὕπαγεhypagego , πώλησόνpōlēsonsell σουsouyour τὰta- ὑπάρχονταhyparchontapossessions καὶkaiand δὸςdosgive πτωχοῖςptōchoispoor , καὶkaiand ἕξειςhexeisyou will have θησαυρὸνthēsaurontreasure ἐνenin οὐρανῷouranōheaven . καὶkaiThen δεῦροdeurocome , ἀκολούθειakoloutheifollow μοιmoiMe . ”
22ἈκούσαςAkousasheard δὲde[When] hothe νεανίσκοςneaniskosyoung man τὸνton- λόγονlogon- , ἀπέλθῃapelthēto depart λυπούμενοςlypoumenosin sorrow , ἦνēnhe γὰρgarbecause ἔχωνechōnhad κτήματαktēmatawealth . πολλάpollagreat
23Ho- δὲdeThen ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἰπὲeipesay τοῖςtoisto μαθηταῖςmathētaisdisciples , αὐτοῦautouHis ἈμὴνAmēn“ Truly λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , ὅτιhoti- δυσκόλωςdyskolōsit is hard for πλούσιοςplousiosa rich man εἰσελεύσεταιeiseleusetaito enter εἰςeis. . . τὴνtēnthe βασιλείανbasileiankingdom τῶνtōnof οὐρανῶνouranōnheaven .
24πάλινpalinAgain δὲdevvv λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , εὐκοπώτερόνeukopōteroneasier for ἐστιestiis κάμηλονkamēlona camel διὰdiathrough τρυπήματοςtrypēmatos[the] eye ῥαφίδοςrhaphidosof a needle διελθεῖνdieltheinentered ēthan for πλούσιονplousiona rich man εἰςeis. . . τὴνtēnthe βασιλείανbasileiankingdom τοῦtouof ΘεοῦTheouGod . ” [εἰσελθεῖν]eiseltheinto enter
25ἈκούσαντεςAkousantesheard this , δὲdeWhen οἱhoithe μαθηταὶmathētaidisciples αὐτοῦautouHis ἐξεπλήσσοντοexeplēssontoastonished σφόδραsphodra{they were} greatly λέγοντεςlegontes[and] asked , ΤίςTis“ Who ἄραarathen δύναταιdynataican σωθῆναιsōthēnaibe saved ? ”
26ἘμβλέψαςEmblepsaslooked at [them] δὲde- ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἶπενeipen[and] said αὐτοῖςautois. . . , ΠαρὰPara“ With ἀνθρώποιςanthrōpoisman τοῦτοtoutothis ἀδύνατόνadynatonimpossible , ἐστι,estiis παρὰparawith δὲdebut ΘεῷTheōGod πάνταpantaall things [are] δυνατάdynatapossible . ” ἐστι.estiis
27ΤότεTote- ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisreplied ho- ΠέτροςPetrosPeter εἶπενeipen. . . αὐτῷautō. . . , ἸδοὺIdou“ Look , ” ἡμεῖςhēmeis“ we ἀφήκαμενaphēkamenhave left πάνταpantaeverything καὶkai- ἠκολουθήσαμένēkolouthēsamento follow σοιsoiYou . τίtiWhat ἄραarathen ἔσταιestaiwill there be ἡμῖνhēminfor us ? ”
28Ho- δὲde- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἶπενeipensaid αὐτοῖςautoisto them , ἈμὴνAmēn“ Truly λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , ὅτιhoti- ὑμεῖςhymeisyou οἱhoiwho ἀκολουθήσαντέςakolouthēsanteshave followed μοιmoiMe ἐνenin τῇthe παλιγγενεσίᾳ,paliggenesiarenewal of all things , ὅτανhotanwhen καθίσῃkathisēsits hothe ΥἱὸςHuiosSon τοῦtou- ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouof Man ἐπὶepion θρόνουthronouthrone , δόξηςdoxēsglorious αὐτοῦautouHis καθίσεσθεkathisesthesits καὶkaivvv ὑμεῖς*hymeis- ἐπὶepion δώδεκαdōdekatwelve θρόνουςthronousthrones , κρίνοντεςkrinontesjudging τὰςtasthe δώδεκαdōdekatwelve φυλὰςphylastribes τοῦtou- ἸσραήλIsraēlof Israel .
29καὶkaiAnd πᾶςpaseveryone ὡςhōsas ἀφῆκενaphēkenhas left οἰκίαςoikiashouses ēor ἀδελφοὺςadelphousbrothers ēor ἀδελφὰςadelphassisters ēor πατέραpaterafather ēor μητέραmēteramother ‹ἢēor γυναῖκα›gynaikawife ēor τέκναteknachildren ēor ἀγροὺςagrousfields ἕνεκενhenekenfor the sake of τοῦtou- ὀνόματόςonomatosname μου*mouMy ἑκατονταπλασίονα*hekatontaplasionaa hundredfold λήψεταιlepsetaiwill receive καὶkaiand ζωὴνzōēnlife . αἰώνιονaiōnioneternal κληρονομήσειklēronomēseiwill inherit
30ΠολλοὶPolloimany δὲdeBut ἔσονταιesontaiwill be πρῶτοιprōtoi[who are] first ἔσχατοιeschatoilast , καὶkaiand ἔσχατοιeschatoi[the] last πρῶτοιprōtoi[will be] first . [’’]
