2λέγωνlegōn“ - ΚριτήςKritēsjudge τιςtisa ἦνēnthere was ἦνēnthere was τινιtinia certain πόλειpoleitown τὸνton- ΘεὸνTheonGod μὴmē[nor] φοβούμενοςphoboumenosfeared καὶkai- ἄνθρωπονanthrōponmen . μὴmē[nor] ἐντρεπόμενοςentrepomenosrespected
3χήραchēraa widow δὲdeAnd ἦνēnthere was ἦνēnthere was τῇtē- πόλειpoleitown ἐκείνῃekeinēthat καὶkai- ἤρχετοērchetowho kept appealing πρὸςprosto αὐτὸνautonhim , λέγουσαlegousa. . . ἘκδίκησόνEkdikēson‘ Give me justice μεme. . . ἀπὸapo[against] τοῦtou- ἀντιδίκουantidikouadversary . ’ μουmoumy
4ΚαὶKai- οὐκoukvvv ἠθέλησενethelesenrefused ἐπὶepiFor χρόνονchronona while μετὰmetalater δὲdebut ταῦταtautahe εἶπενeipensaid ἐνento ἑαυτῷheautōhimself , ΕἰEi‘ Though καὶkai. . . τὸνton- ΘεὸνTheonGod οὐouI neither φοβοῦμαιphoboumaifear οὐδὲoudenor ἄνθρωπονanthrōponmen , ἐντρέπομαιentrepomairespect
5διάdiabecause γεgeyet τὸto- παρέχεινparecheinkeeps pestering me μοιmoi. . . κόπονkopon. . . , τὴνtēn- χήρανchēranwidow ταύτηνtautēnthis ἐκδικήσωekdikēsōI will give her justice αὐτήνautēn. . . . ἵναhina[Then] μὴmēvvv εἰςeiswith her perpetual requests τέλοςtelos. . . ἐρχομένηerchomenē. . . . ’” ὑπωπιάζῃhypōpiazēshe will stop wearing me out μεme. . .

7ὁhoof the δὲde- ΘεὸςTheosGod οὐou{Will} not μὴmē. . . ποιήσῃpoiēsēbring about τὴνtēn- ἐκδίκησινekdikēsinjustice for τῶνtōn- ἐκλεκτῶνeklektōnelect αὐτοῦautouHis τῶνtōn- βοώντωνboōntōncry out πρόςprosTo αὐτῶνautōnon their behalf . ἡμέραςhēmerasday καὶkaiand νυκτόςnyktosnight ? καὶkai- μακροθυμῶνmakrothumonWill He continue to defer ἐπ’ep’their help αὐτοῖςautois. . . ?
8λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , ὅτιhoti- ποιήσειpoiēseiHe will promptly carry out τὴνtēn- ἐκδίκησινekdikēsinjustice αὐτῶνautōnon their behalf . ἐνen. . . τάχειtachei. . . πλὴνplēnNevertheless , ὁho[when] the ΥἱὸςHuiosSon τοῦtou- ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouof Man ἐλθὼνelthōncomes , ἆραara- εὑρήσειheurēseiwill He find τὴνtēn- πίστινpistinfaith ἐπὶepion τῆςtēs- γῆςgēsearth ? ”
9εἰπὲeipesay δὲde- καὶkaiand πρόςprosTo τιναςtinassome τοὺςtouswho πεποιθόταςpepoithotastrusted ἐφ’eph’in ἑαυτοῖςheautoistheir own ὅτιhoti. . . εἰσὶeisiare δίκαιοιdikaioirighteousness καὶkaiand ἐξουθενοῦνταςexouthenountasviewed τοὺςtous- λοιποὺςloipousothers {with contempt} , τὴνtēn- παραβολὴνparabolēnparable : ταύτηνtautēnthis
10ἌνθρωποιAnthrōpoimen δύοdyo“ Two ἀνέβησανanebēsanwent up εἰςeisto τὸtothe ἱερὸνhierontemple προσεύξασθαιproseuxasthaito pray . ὁho- εἷςheisOne [was] ΦαρισαῖοςPharisaiosa Pharisee καὶkaiand ὁhothe ἕτεροςheterosother τελώνηςtelōnēsa tax collector .
11ὁhoThe ΦαρισαῖοςPharisaiosPharisee σταθεὶςstatheisstood πρόςprosTo ἑαυτὸν»heautonhimself ταῦταtauta- προσηύχετοprosēucheto[and] prayed , ὉHO- ΘεόςTheos‘ God , εὐχαριστῶeucharistōI thank σοιsoiYou ὅτιhotithat οὐκouknot εἰμὶeimiI am ὥσπερhōsperlike οἱhoithe λοιποὶloipoiother τῶνtōn- ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnmen — ἅρπαγεςharpagesswindlers , ἄδικοιadikoievildoers , μοιχοίmoichoiadulterers — ἢēor καὶkaieven ὡςhōslike οὗτοςhoutosthis ὁho- τελώνηςtelōnēstax collector .
12νηστεύωnēsteuōI fast δὶςdistwice τοῦtoua σαββάτουsabbatouweek ἀποδεκατῶapodekatō[and] pay tithes πάνταpantaof all that ὅσαhosa. . . κτῶμαιktōmaiI acquire . ’
13καὶkaieven ὁho- τελώνηςtelōnēstax collector . μακρόθενmakrothenat a distance , ἑστὼςhestōsstood οὐκoukvvv ἤθελενēthelenunwilling even οὐδὲoude. . . τοὺςtous[his] ὀφθαλμοὺςophthalmouseyes εἰςeisto τὸνton- οὐρανόνouranonheaven . ἐπᾶραιeparaito lift up ἀλλ’all’Instead , ἔτυπτενetyptenhe beat εἰςeisto τὸto- στῆθοςstēthosbreast αὐτοῦautouhis λέγωνlegōn[and] said ὉHO- , ΘεόςTheos‘ God , ἱλάσθητίhilasthētihave mercy μοιmoion me , τῷtōa ἁμαρτωλῷhamartōlōsinner ! ’
14λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , κατέβηkatebēwent home οὗτοςhoutosthis [man] , δεδικαιωμένοςdedikaiōmenosjustified . εἰςeis. . . τὸνton. . . οἶκονoikon. . . αὐτοῦautou. . . ἡhēthe γὰρgarFor ἐκεῖνοςekeinosthat ὅτιhotiFor πᾶςpaseveryone ὁhowho ὑψῶνhypsōnexalts ἑαυτὸνheautonhimself ταπεινωθήσεταιtapeinōthēsetaiwill be humbled , ὁhothe [one who] δὲdebut ταπεινῶνtapeinōnhumbles ἑαυτὸνheautonhimself ὑψωθήσεταιhypsōthēsetaiwill be exalted . ”
15ΠροσέφερονProsepheron[people] were even bringing δὲdeNow αὐτῷautōto [Jesus] καὶkai. . . τὰta[their] βρέφηbrephēbabies ἵναhinafor αὐτῶνautōnon them . ἅπτηταιhaptētaiHim to place His hands καὶkai. . . ἰδόντεςidontessaw [this] , οἱhoithe μαθηταὶmathētaidisciples ἐπετίμησανepetimesanthey rebuked αὐτοῖςautois[those who brought them] .
16ὉHo- δὲdeBut ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus προσκαλεσάμενοςproskalesamenoscalled αὐτὰauta. . . ΕἶπενEipenreplied ἌφετεAphete“ Let τὰtathe παιδίαpaidialittle children ἔρχεσθαιerchesthaicome πρόςprosto μεmeMe , καὶkaiand μὴmē{do} not κωλύετεkōlyetehinder αὐτάautathem ! τῶνtōnto γὰρgarFor τοιούτωνtoioutōnsuch as these . ἐστὶνestinbelongs ἡhēthe βασιλείαbasileiakingdom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God
17ἀμὴνamēnTruly λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , ὃςhosanyone who ἐὰνeanIf μὴmēvvv δέξηταιdexētaidoes not receive τὴνtēnthe βασιλείανbasileiankingdom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God ὡςhōslike παιδίονpaidiona little child οὐouvvv μὴmēvvv εἰσέλθῃeiselthēwill never enter εἰςeis. . . αὐτήνautēnit . ”
18ΚαὶKaiThen ἐπηρώτησέeperoteseasked τιςtisa certain αὐτὸνautonHim ἄρχωνarchōnruler λέγωνlegōn- , ΔιδάσκαλεDidaskaleTeacher , ἀγαθέagathe“ Good τίtiwhat ποιήσαςpoiēsasmust I do ζωὴνzōēnlife ? ” αἰώνιονaiōnioneternal κληρονομήσωklēronomēsōto inherit
19εἰπὲeipesay δὲde- αὐτῷautō- . ὁho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ΤίTi“ Why μεmeMe λέγειςlegeisdo you call ἀγαθόνagathongood ? ” οὐδεὶςoudeis“ No one [is] ἀγαθὸςagathosgood εἰeiexcept μὴmē. . . εἷςheisalone . ὁho- ΘεόςTheosGod
20τὰςtasthe ἐντολὰςentolascommandments : οἶδαςoidasYou know ΜὴMēvvv μοιχεύσῃςmoicheusēs‘ Do not commit adultery , ΜὴMēvvv φονεύσῃςphoneusēsdo not murder , ΜὴMēvvv κλέψῃςklepsēsdo not steal , ΜὴMēvvv ψευδομαρτυρήσῃςpseudomartyrēsēsdo not bear false witness , ΤίμαTimahonor τὸνton- πατέραpaterafather σουsouyour καὶkaiand τὴνtēn- μητέραmēteramother .’ ” σουsouyour
21ὉHo- δὲde- εἰπὲeipesay ΤαῦταTautathese πάνταpanta“ All ἐφυλαξάμηνephulaxamenI have kept ἐκekfrom νεότητοςneotētosyouth , ” ‹μου›moumy
22ἈκούσαςAkousashearing this , δὲdeOn ΤαῦταTautathese ὉHo- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἶπενeipentold αὐτῷautōhim , ἜτιEtistill ἕνhenone thing : σοιsoi“ You λείπειleipeilack πάνταpantaeverything ὅσαhosa. . . ἔχειςecheisyou own πώλησονpōlēsonSell καὶkaiand διάδοςdiadosgive πτωχοῖςptōchoisto [the] poor , καὶkaiand ἕξειςhexeisyou will have θησαυρὸνthēsaurontreasure ἐνenin οὐρανῷouranōheaven . καὶkaiThen δεῦροdeurocome , ἀκολούθειakoloutheifollow μοιmoiMe . ”
23ὉHo- δὲdeBut ἀκούσαςakousaswhen [the ruler] heard ταῦταtautathis , περίλυποςperilyposvery sad , ἘγένετοEgeneto. . . ἐνen. . . γὰρgar- πλούσιοςplousioswealthy . σφόδραsphodraextremely
24ἸδὼνIdōnSeeing δὲde- αὐτὸνauton[the man’s] ὁho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus περίλυπονperilyponsadness , γενόμενονgenomenonvvv εἰπὲeipesay ΠῶςPōs“ How δυσκόλωςdyskolōshard [it is] οἱhoifor the τὰta- χρήματαchrēmatarich ἔχοντεςechontesvvv εἰσελεύσονταιeiseleusontaito enter εἰςeis. . . τὴνtēnthe βασιλείανbasileiankingdom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God !
25εὐκοπώτερονeukopōteroneasier for γάρgarIndeed , ἐστιestiis κάμηλονkamēlona camel διὰdiathrough τρυμαλιᾶςtrumaliasthe eye ραφίδοςrafidosneedle εἰσελθεῖνeiseltheinto pass ἢēthan for πλούσιονplousiona rich man εἰςeis. . . τὴνtēnthe βασιλείανbasileiankingdom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God . ” εἰσελθεῖνeiseltheinto enter
26εἰπὼνeipōnHe said δὲde- οἱhoiThose who ἀκούσαντεςakousantesheard [this] ΚαὶKaithen τίςtis“ Who δύναταιdynataican σωθῆναιsōthēnaibe saved ? ”
27ὉHo- δὲdeBut εἰπὲeipesay ΤὰTa“ What [is] ἀδύναταadynataimpossible παρὰparawith ἀνθρώποιςanthrōpoisman δυνατὰdynatapossible παρὰparawith τῷtō- ΘεῷTheōGod . ” ἐστινestinis
28εἰπὲeipesay δὲde- ὁho- ΠέτροςPetrosPeter , ἸδοὺIdou“ Look , ” ἡμεῖςhēmeis“ we ἀφήκαμενaphekamenthey left πάνταpantaeverything καὶkaiand ἠκολουθήσαμένēkolouthēsamento follow σοιsoiYou . ”
29ὉHo- δὲde- εἶπενeipen[Jesus] replied αὐτοῖςautois- , ἈμὴνAmēn“ Truly λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , ” ὅτιhoti- οὐδείςoudeis“ no one ἐστινestin- ὃςhoswho ἀφῆκενaphēkenhas left οἰκίανoikianhome ἢēor γονεῖςgoneisparents ἢēor ἀδελφοὺςadelphousbrothers ἢēor γυναῖκαgynaikawife ἢēor τέκναteknachildren ἕνεκενhenekenfor the sake of τῆςtēsthe βασιλείαςbasileiaskingdom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God
30ὃςhosvvv οὐouvvv μὴmēvvv ἀπολάβῃ*apolabēwill fail to receive πολλαπλασίοναpollaplasionamany times more ἐνenin τῷtō- καιρῷkairōage — τούτῳtoutōthis καὶkaiand ἐνenin τῷtōthe αἰῶνιaiōniage τῷtō- ἐρχομένῳerchomenōto come , ζωὴνzōēnlife . ” αἰώνιονaiōnioneternal
31ΠαραλαβὼνParalabōn[Jesus] took δὲdeThen τοὺςtousthe δώδεκαdōdekaTwelve {aside} εἰπὲeipesay πρὸςprosto αὐτούςautousthem , ἸδοὺIdou“ Look , ἀναβαίνομενanabainomenwe are going up εἰςeisto Ἰερουσόλυμα,ierousolumaJerusalem , καὶkaiand τελειωθήσεταιteleiothesetaiwill be fulfilled . πάνταpantaeverything τὰta- γεγραμμέναgegrammenahave written διὰdia- τῶνtōnthe προφητῶνprophētōnprophets τῷtōabout the ΥἱῷHuiōSon τοῦtou- ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouof Man
32παραδοθήσεταιparadothēsetaiHe will be delivered over γὰρgar- τοῖςtoisto the ἔθνεσιethnesiGentiles καὶkaiand ἐμπαιχθήσεταιempaichthēsetaiwill be mocked καὶkaiand ὑβρισθήσεταιhybristhēsetaiinsulted καὶkaiand ἐμπτυσθήσεταιemptysthēsetaispit upon .
33καὶkai- μαστιγώσαντεςmastigōsantesThey will flog [Him] ἀποκτενοῦσινapoktenousin[and] kill αὐτόνautonHim , καὶkaiand τῇtēon the ἡμέρᾳhēmeraday τῇtē- τρίτῃtritēthird ἀναστήσεταιanastēsetaiHe will rise again . ”
34ΚαὶKaiBut αὐτοὶautoi[the disciples] οὐδὲνouden. . . τούτωνtoutōnof these things . συνῆκανsynēkandid not understand any ΚαὶKaiBut ἦνēnwas τὸtoThe ῥῆμαrhēmameaning τοῦτοtouto- κεκρυμμένονkekrymmenonhidden ἀπ’ap’from αὐτῶνautōnthem , καὶkaiand οὐκoukvvv ἐγίνωσκονeginōskonthey did not comprehend τὰtawhat λεγόμεναlegomenaHe was saying .
35ἘγένετοEgeneto. . . δὲdeAs ἐνen. . . τῷtō- ἐγγίζεινengizeindrew near αὐτὸνauton[Jesus] εἰςeisto ἸεριχὼIerichōJericho , τυφλόςtyphlosblind [man] τιςtisa ἐκάθητοekathētowas sitting παρὰparabeside τὴνtēnthe ὁδὸνhodonroad , προσαιτῶνprosaitonbegging
36ἀκούσαςakousashe heard δὲdeWhen ὄχλουochlouthe crowd διαπορευομένουdiaporeuomenougoing by , ἐπυνθάνετοepynthanetohe asked τίtiwhat εἴηeiēwas ταῦταtautathis ,
37ἈπήγγειλανApēngeilanthey told δὲde- αὐτῷautōhim ὅτιhoti- . ἸησοῦςIēsous“ Jesus ὁhoof ΝαζωραῖοςNazōraiosNazareth παρέρχεταιparerchetaiis passing by , ”
38ΚαὶKai[So] ἐβόησεeboesecried out λέγωνlegōn- , ἸησοῦIēsou“ Jesus , υἱὲhuieSon ΔαυίδDauidof David , ἐλέησόνeleēsonhave mercy on μεmeme ! ”
39ΚαὶKai- οἱhoiThose who προάγοντεςproagontesled the way ἐπετίμωνepetimōnadmonished αὐτῷautōhim ἵναhina- σιωπήσῃ·siopeseto be silent , αὐτὸςautos- δὲdebut πολλῷpollōall the μᾶλλονmallonlouder , ἔκραζενekrazenhe cried out ΥἱὲHuie“ Son ΔαυίδDauidof David , ἐλέησόνeleēsonhave mercy on μεmeme ! ”
40ΣταθεὶςStatheisstopped δὲde- ὁho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἐκέλευσενekeleusen[and] directed that αὐτὸνauton[the man] ἀχθῆναιachthēnaibe brought πρὸςprosto αὐτόνautonHim . ἐγγίσαντοςengisantoshad been brought near , δὲdeWhen αὐτοῦautouhe ἐπηρώτησενepērōtēsen[Jesus] asked αὐτόνautonhim ,
41λέγωνlegōn- , τίtiwhat σοιsoifor you ? ” θέλειςtheleisdo you want ποιήσωpoiēsōMe to do ὉHo- δὲde- εἰπὲeipesay ΚύριεKyrie“ Lord , ” ἵναhinavvv ἀναβλέψωanablepsō“ let me see again . ”
42ΚαὶKai- ὁho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἶπενeipenreplied αὐτῷautō- . ἈνάβλεψονAnablepson“ Receive your sight ! ” ἡhē- πίστιςpistisfaith σουsou“ Your σέσωκέsesokehas healed σεseyou . ”
43καὶkai- παραχρῆμαparachrēmaImmediately ἀνέβλεψε,aneblepsehe received his sight καὶkai- ἠκολούθειēkoloutheifollowed αὐτῷautō[Jesus] , δοξάζωνdoxazōnglorifying τὸνton- ΘεόνTheonGod . καὶkaiAnd πᾶςpasall ὁhothe λαὸςlaospeople ἰδὼνidōn[who] saw [this] ἔδωκενedōkengave αἶνονainonpraise τῷtō- ΘεῷTheōto God .
