1ΑὐτὸςAutos. . . δὲdebut ἐγὼegōI , ΠαῦλοςPaulosPaul , παρακαλῶparakalōI appeal ὑμᾶςhymasto you — διὰdiaby τῆςtēsthe πραότητοςpraotetosmildness καὶkaiand ἐπιεικείαςepieikeiasgentleness τοῦtou- ΧριστοῦChristouof Christ , ὃςhoswho κατὰkatavvv πρόσωπονprosōponwhen face to face μὲνmen- ταπεινὸςtapeinos[am] humble ἐνenwith ὑμῖνhyminyou , ἀπὼνapōnwhen away . δὲde- θαρρῶtharrōbold εἰςeis- ὑμᾶςhymas-
2δέομαιdeomaiI beg [you] δὲde- τὸtothat μὴmēvvv παρὼνparōnwhen I come θαρρῆσαιtharrēsaiI may not need to be τῇtēvvv πεποιθήσειpepoithēseias bold ᾗhēas λογίζομαιlogizomaiI expect τολμῆσαιtolmēsai. . . ἐπίepitoward τιναςtinas[those] τοὺςtouswho λογιζομένουςlogizomenouspresume that ἡμᾶςhēmaswe ὡςhōs- κατὰkataaccording to σάρκαsarka[the] flesh . περιπατοῦνταςperipatountaslive
3ἘνEnin σαρκὶsarki[the] flesh , γὰρgarFor περιπατοῦντεςperipatountesthough we live οὐouvvv κατὰkataaccording to σάρκαsarka[the] flesh . στρατευόμεθαstrateuomethawe do not wage war
4τὰtaThe γὰρgar- ὅπλαhoplaweapons τῆςtēsof στρατείαςstrateiaswarfare ἡμῶνhēmōnour οὐou[are] not σαρκικὰsarkika[ the weapons ] of the world . ἀλλὰallaInstead , δυνατὰdynatapower τῷtō[they have] ΘεῷTheōdivine πρὸςprosto καθαίρεσινkathairesindemolish ὀχυρωμάτωνochyrōmatōnstrongholds .
5λογισμοὺςlogismousarguments καθαιροῦντεςkathairountesWe tear down καὶkaiand πᾶνpanevery ὕψωμαhypsōmapresumption ἐπαιρόμενονepairomenonset up κατὰkataagainst τῆςtēsthe γνώσεωςgnōseōsknowledge τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God ; καὶkaiand αἰχμαλωτίζοντεςaichmalōtizonteswe take captive πᾶνpanevery νόημαnoēmathought εἰςeisto τὴνtēn- ὑπακοὴνhypakoēnmake it obedient τοῦtou- ΧριστοῦChristouto Christ .
6καὶkaiAnd ἐνenwe ἑτοίμῳhetoimōready ἔχοντεςechonteswill be ἐκδικῆσαιekdikēsaito punish πᾶσανpasanevery [act of] παρακοήνparakoēndisobedience , ὅτανhotanas soon as πληρωθῇplērōthēis complete . ὑμῶνhymōnyour ἡhē- ὑπακοήhypakoēobedience
7ΤὰTa- κατὰkataat πρόσωπονprosōponoutward appearances . βλέπετεblepeteYou are looking εἴeiIf τιςtisanyone πέποιθενpepoithenis confident ἑαυτῷheautōthat he ΧριστοῦChristouChrist , εἶναιeinaibelongs to τοῦτοtouto- λογιζέσθωlogizesthōhe should remind πάλινpalin. . . ἀφ’aph’from ἑαυτοῦheautouhimself ὅτιhotithat καθὼςkathōsas much as αὐτὸςautoshe ΧριστοῦChristou[does] . οὕτωhoutōso καὶkaijust ἡμεῖςhēmeiswe ΧριστοῦChristou[does] .
8ἐάνeanif τεteeven γὰρgarFor καὶkaijust περισσότερόνperissoteronexcessively τιtisomewhat καυχήσωμαιkauchēsōmaiI boast περὶperiabout τῆςtēsthe ἐξουσίαςexousiasauthority ἡμῶνhēmōnus ἧςhēs- ἔδωκενedōkengave ὁhothe ΚύριοςKyriosLord ἡμῖνhēminto us — εἰςeisto οἰκοδομὴνoikodomēnbuilding [you] up καὶkairather than οὐκouk. . . εἰςeis- καθαίρεσινkathairesintearing you down ὑμῶνhymōn. . . , οὐκoukvvv αἰσχυνθήσομαιaischynthēsomaiI will not be ashamed .
9ἵναhina- μὴmēvvv δόξωdoxōI do not want to seem ὡςhōsto be ἂνan. . . ἐκφοβεῖνekphobein[trying] to frighten ὑμᾶςhymasyou διὰdiaby τῶνtōn[my] ἐπιστολῶνepistolōnletters .
10ὍτιHotiFor ΑἱHai“ [His] μένmen- ἐπιστολαὶepistolailetters φησί,phesihe said . ΒαρεῖαιBareiai[are] weighty καὶkaiand ἰσχυραίischyraiforceful , ἡhē- δὲdebut παρουσίαparousiapresence τοῦtouhis σώματοςsōmatosphysical ἀσθενὴςasthenēs[is] unimpressive , καὶkaiand ὁho[his] λόγοςlogosspeaking ἐξουθενημένοςexouthenēmenos[is] of no account . ”
11τοῦτοtouto- λογιζέσθωlogizesthōshould consider ὁho- τοιοῦτοςtoioutosSuch [people] ὅτιhotithat οἷοίhoioiwhat ἐσμενesmenwe are τῷtōvvv λόγῳlogōvvv δι’di’in ἐπιστολῶνepistolōn[our] letters ἀπόντεςaponteswhen absent , τοιοῦτοιtoioutoi[we will be] καὶkai. . . παρόντεςparonteswhen present . τῷtō- ἔργῳergōin our actions
12ΟὐOu- γὰρgar- τολμῶμενtolmōmenWe do not dare ἐγκρῖναιegkrinaito classify ἢēor συγκρῖναιsugkrinaicompare ἑαυτούςheautousourselves [with] τισινtisinsome τῶνtōnwho ἑαυτοὺςheautousthemselves . συνιστανόντωνsynistanontōncommend ἀλλὰalla- αὐτοὶautoi[When] they ἐνenby ἑαυτοῖςheautoisthemselves ἑαυτοὺςheautousthemselves μετροῦντεςmetrountesmeasure καὶkaiand συγκρίνοντεςsugkrinontescompare ἑαυτοὺςheautousthemselves ἑαυτοῖςheautoiswith themselves , οὐouvvv συνίουσινsyniousinunderstand . ’
13ἡμεῖςhēmeisWe , δὲdehowever , ΟὐχίOuchi“ No εἰςeisvvv τὰtavvv ἄμετραametrabeyond our limits , καυχησόμεθαkauchēsomethawill not boast ἀλλὰallabut only κατὰkatawithin τὸtothe μέτρονmetronfield of influence τοῦtou. . . κανόνοςkanonos. . . οὗhouthat ἐμέρισενemerisenhas assigned ἡμῖνhēminto us — ὁho- ΘεὸςTheosGod μέτρουmetroua field ἐφικέσθαιephikesthaithat reaches ἄχριachrito καὶkaieven ὑμῶνhymōnyou .
14οὐouvvv γὰρgar- ὡςhōsas if μὴmēvvv ἐφικνούμενοιephiknoumenoiwe had not come εἰςeisto ὑμᾶςhymasyou . ὑπερεκτείνομενhyperekteinomenWe are not overstepping ἑαυτούςheautousour [bounds] , ἄχριachrito γὰρgar- καὶkaieven ὑμῶνhymōnyou . ἐφθάσαμενephthasamenwe were the first to reach ἐνenwith τῷtōthe εὐαγγελίῳeuangeliōgospel τοῦtou- ΧριστοῦChristouof Christ .
15οὐκoukNeither εἰςeisvvv τὰtavvv ἄμετραametrabeyond our limits καυχώμενοιkauchōmenoido we boast ἐνenin ἀλλοτρίοιςallotrioisof others . κόποιςkopois[the] labors ἐλπίδαelpidawe hope that δὲdeBut ἔχοντεςechontesvvv αὐξανομένηςauxanomenēsincreases , τῆςtēs- πίστεωςpisteōsfaith ὑμῶνhymōn[as] your ἐνenin ὑμῖνhyminyou μεγαλυνθῆναιmegalynthēnaiwill greatly increase [ as well ] κατὰkata- τὸνton- κανόναkanonaarea of influence ἡμῶνhēmōnour εἰςeis. . . περισσείανperisseian. . . ,
16εἰςeisso that τὰta[in the regions] ὑπερέκειναhyperekeinabeyond ὑμῶνhymōnyou . εὐαγγελίσασθαιeuangelisasthaiwe can preach the gospel οὐκoukvvv ἐνenin ἀλλοτρίῳallotriōanother man’s κανόνιkanoniterritory . εἰςeisin τὰtathe [work] ἕτοιμαhetoimaalready done καυχήσασθαιkauchēsasthai[Then] we will not be boasting
17ὉHo“ {Let} him who δὲdeRather , καυχώμενοςkauchōmenosboasts ἐνenin ΚυρίῳKyriō[the] Lord .” καυχάσθωkauchasthōboast
18οὐounot γὰρgarFor ὁhothe [one] ἑαυτὸνheautonhimself συνιστῶν,sunistonwho commends ἐκεῖνόςekeinos[who is] ἐστίestiI have δόκιμοςdokimosapproved , ἀλλ’all’Instead , ὃνhonthe one whom ὁhothe ΚύριοςKyriosLord συνίστησινsynistēsincommends .
