2κατὰkataaccording to πρόγνωσινprognōsin[the] foreknowledge ΘεοῦTheouof God ΠατρόςPatros[the] Father ἐνenby ἁγιασμῷhagiasmō[and] sanctified ΠνεύματοςPneumatos[the] Spirit εἰςeisfor ὑπακοὴνhypakoēnobedience καὶkaiand ῥαντισμὸνrhantismonsprinkling αἵματοςhaimatosby [His] blood : ἸησοῦIēsouto Jesus ΧριστοῦChristouChrist ΧάριςCharisGrace ὑμῖνhyminbe yours καὶkaiand εἰρήνηeirēnēpeace πληθυνθείηplēthyntheiēin abundance .
3ΕὐλογητὸςEulogētosBlessed [be] ὁhothe ΘεὸςTheosGod καὶkaiand ΠατὴρPatērFather τοῦtou- ΚυρίουKyriouLord ἡμῶνhēmōnof our ἸησοῦIēsouJesus ΧριστοῦChristouChrist ! ὁho[He] κατὰkataBy τὸto- πολὺpolygreat αὐτοῦautouHis ἔλεοςeleosmercy ἀναγεννήσαςanagennēsashas given us new birth ἡμᾶςhēmasvvv εἰςeisinto ἐλπίδαelpidahope ζῶσανzōsana living δι’di’through ἀναστάσεωςanastaseōs[the] resurrection ἸησοῦIēsouof Jesus ΧριστοῦChristouChrist ἐκekfrom νεκρῶνnekrōn[the] dead ,
4εἰςeis[and] into κληρονομίανklēronomianan inheritance [that is] ἄφθαρτονaphthartonimperishable , καὶkai- ἀμίαντονamiantonundefiled , καὶkaiand ἀμάραντονamarantonunfading , τετηρημένηνtetērēmenēnreserved ἐνenin οὐρανοῖςouranoisheaven εἰςeisfor ὑμᾶςhymasyou ,
5τοὺςtouswho ἐνenby δυνάμειdynameipower ΘεοῦTheouGod’s φρουρουμένουςphrouroumenous[are] shielded διὰdiathrough πίστεωςpisteōsfaith εἰςeisfor σωτηρίανsōtērian[the] salvation ἑτοίμηνhetoimēn[that is] ready ἀποκαλυφθῆναιapokalyphthēnaito be revealed ἐνenin καιρῷkairōtime . ἐσχάτῳeschatō[the] last
6ἐνenin ᾧhōthis ἀγαλλιᾶσθεagalliastheyou greatly rejoice , ὀλίγονoligonfor a little while ἄρτιartinow εἰeithough δέονdeonhave had ἐστίestiI have λυπηθέντεςlypēthentesto suffer grief ἐνenin ποικίλοιςpoikiloisvarious πειρασμοῖςpeirasmoistrials
7ἵναhinaso that τὸtothe δοκίμιονdokimionproven character ὑμῶνhymōnof your τῆςtēs- πίστεωςpisteōsfaith — πολυτιμότερονpolytimoteronmore precious χρυσίουchrysiouthan gold , τοῦtouwhich ἀπολλυμένουapollymenouperishes διὰdiaby πυρὸςpyrosfire — δὲdeeven though δοκιμαζομένουdokimazomenourefined εὑρεθῇheurethēmay result in εἰςeis. . . ἔπαινονepainonpraise , καὶkai- τιμὴνtimēnhonor καὶkaiand δόξανdoxanglory , ἐνenat ἀποκαλύψειapokalypsei[the] revelation ἸησοῦIēsouof Jesus ΧριστοῦChristouChrist .
8ὃνhon[Him] , οὐκoukvvv εἰδότεςeidotes[For] you know ἀγαπᾶτεagapateyou love [Him] ; εἰςeisin [Him] ὃνhon[Him] ἄρτιartinow , μὴmēvvv ὁρῶντεςhorōntes[and though] you do not see πιστεύοντεςpisteuontesyou believe δὲdeand ἀγαλλιᾶσθεagalliastherejoice χαρᾷcharajoy , ἀνεκλαλήτῳaneklalētōwith an inexpressible καὶkaiand δεδοξασμένῃdedoxasmenēglorious
9κομιζόμενοιkomizomenoi[now that] you are receiving τὸtothe τέλοςtelosgoal τῆςtēsof πίστεωςpisteōsfaith , ‹ὑμῶν›hymōnyour σωτηρίανsōtērian[the] salvation ψυχῶνpsychōnof [your] souls .
10ΠερὶPeriConcerning ἧςhēsthis σωτηρίαςsōtēriassalvation , ἐξεζήτησανexezētēsansearched καὶkaiand ἐξηρεύνησανexereunesaninvestigated carefully , προφῆταιprophētai[the] prophets οἱhoiwho περὶperi. . . τῆςtēsthe εἰςeisto come ὑμᾶςhymasto you χάριτοςcharitosgrace προφητεύσαντεςprophēteusantesforetold
11ἐρευνῶντεςereunontestrying to determine εἰςeisto come τίναtinathe time and setting ἢē. . . ποῖονpoion. . . καιρὸνkairon. . . ἐδήλουedēlouwas pointing τὸtoto which the ἐνenin αὐτοῖςautoisthem ΠνεῦμαPneumaSpirit ΧριστοῦChristouof Christ προμαρτυρόμενονpromartyromenonwhen He predicted τὰtathe εἰςeisof ΧριστὸνChristonChrist παθήματαpathēmatasufferings καὶkaiand τὰςtasthe μετὰmetavvv ταῦταtautato follow . δόξαςdoxasglories
12οἷςhoisto [them] ἀπεκαλύφθηapekalyphthēIt was revealed ὅτιhotithat οὐχouchvvv ἑαυτοῖςheautoisthemselves , ὑμῖνhyminyou , δὲdebut διηκόνουνdiēkonounthey were not serving αὐτάauta[when they foretold] the things ἃha- νῦνnynvvv ἀνηγγέληanēngelēnow announced ὑμῖνhymin- διὰdiaby τῶνtōnthose who εὐαγγελισαμένωνeuangelisamenōnpreached the gospel ὑμᾶςhymasto you ἐνenby ΠνεύματιPneumatiSpirit ἉγίῳHagiō[the] Holy ἀποσταλέντιapostalentisent ἀπ’ap’from οὐρανοῦouranouheaven . εἰςeisinto ἃha[these things] . ἐπιθυμοῦσινepithymousinlong ἄγγελοιangeloi[Even] angels παρακύψαιparakypsaito look
13ΔιὸDioTherefore ἀναζωσάμενοιanazōsamenoiprepare τὰςtas. . . ὀσφύαςosphyas. . . τῆςtēs. . . διανοίαςdianoiasminds {for action} . ὑμῶνhymōnyour νήφοντεςnēphontesBe sober-minded . τελείωςteleiōsfully ἐλπίσατεelpisateSet [your] hope ἐπὶepion τὴνtēnthe φερομένηνpheromenēnto be given ὑμῖνhyminyou χάρινcharingrace ἐνenat ἀποκαλύψειapokalypsei[the] revelation ἸησοῦIēsouof Jesus ΧριστοῦChristouChrist .
14ὡςhōsAs τέκναteknachildren , ὑπακοῆςhypakoēsobedient μὴmēvvv συσχηματιζόμενοιsyschēmatizomenoido not conform ταῖςtaisto the πρότερονproteronformer ἐνenof τῇtē- ἀγνοίᾳagnoiaignorance . ὑμῶνhymōnyour ἐπιθυμίαιςepithymiaispassions
15ἀλλὰallaBut κατὰkatajust as τὸνtonHe who καλέσανταkalesantacalled ὑμᾶςhymasyou ἅγιονhagion[is] holy , καὶkaiso αὐτοὶautoi- ἅγιοιhagioiholy ἐνenin πάσῃpasēall ἀναστροφῇanastrophēyou do , γενήθητεgenēthētebe
16διότιdiotifor γέγραπταιgegraptaiit is written : ἍγιοιHagioiholy , γίνεσθεginestheshould become ὅτιhotibecause ἐγὼegōI ἅγιοςhagiosholy .” εἰμιeimiam
17ΚαὶKai- εἰeiSince ΠατέραPatera[a] Father ἐπικαλεῖσθεepikaleistheyou call on τὸνtonwho ἀπροσωπολήπτωςaprosopoleptosimpartially , κρίνονταkrinontajudges κατὰkata- τὸto- ἑκάστουhekastoueach one’s ἔργονergonwork ἐνenin φόβῳphobōreverent fear τὸνtonduring τῆςtēs- παροικίαςparoikiasas foreigners . ὑμῶνhymōnyour χρόνονchrononstay ἀναστράφητεanastraphēteconduct yourselves
18εἰδότεςeidotes[For] you know ὅτιhotithat οὐouvvv φθαρτοῖςphthartoisit was not with perishable things ἀργυρίῳargyriō[such as] silver ἢēor χρυσίῳchrysiōgold ἐλυτρώθητεelytrōthētethat you were redeemed ἐκekfrom τῆςtēsthe ματαίαςmataiasempty ὑμῶνhymōnyou ἀναστροφῆςanastrophēsway of life πατροπαραδότουpatroparadotouinherited from your forefathers ,
19ἀλλὰallabut τιμίῳtimiōwith [the] precious αἵματιhaimatiblood ὡςhōs- ἀμνοῦamnoua lamb ἀμώμουamōmouwithout blemish καὶkai[or] ἀσπίλουaspilouspot . ΧριστοῦChristouof Christ ,
20προεγνωσμένουproegnōsmenouHe was known μὲνmen- πρὸprobefore καταβολῆςkatabolēs[the] foundation κόσμουkosmouof [the] world , φανερωθέντοςphanerōthentoswas revealed δὲdebut ἐπ’ep’in ἔσχατονeschatonlast τῶνtōnthe χρόνωνchronōntimes δι’di’for your sake ὑμᾶςhymas. . . .
21τοὺςtous[you] δι’di’Through αὐτοῦautouHim πιστεύονταςpisteuontasbelieve . εἰςeisin ΘεὸνTheonGod , τὸνtonwho ἐγείρανταegeirantaraised Him αὐτὸνauton. . . ἐκekfrom νεκρῶνnekrōn[the] dead καὶkaiand δόξανdoxanglorified αὐτῷautōHim ; δόνταdontavvv ὥστεhōsteand so τὴνtēn- πίστινpistinfaith ὑμῶνhymōnyour καὶkaiand ἐλπίδαelpidahope εἶναιeinaiare εἰςeisin ΘεόνTheonGod .
22ΤὰςTas- ψυχὰςpsychassouls ὑμῶνhymōnyour ἡγνικότεςhēgnikotes[Since] you have purified ἐνenby τῇtē- ὑπακοῇhypakoēobedience τῆςtēsto the ἀληθείαςalētheiastruth διὰdiathrough ΠνεύματοςPneumatos[the] Spirit εἰςeisfor φιλαδελφίανphiladelphianyou have a genuine love for your brothers ἀνυπόκριτονanypokriton. . . , ἐκekfrom καθαρᾶςkatharasa pure καρδίαςkardiasheart . ἀλλήλουςallēlousone another ἀγαπήσατεagapēsatelove ἐκτενῶςektenōsdeeply ,
23ἀναγεγεννημένοιanagegennēmenoiFor you have been born again , οὐκouknot ἐκekof σπορᾶςsporasseed , φθαρτῆςphthartēsperishable ἀλλὰallabut ἀφθάρτουaphthartouof imperishable , διὰdiathrough λόγουlogouword ζῶντοςzōntos[the] living ΘεοῦTheouof God . καὶkaiand μένοντοςmenontosenduring εἰςeisso that τὸνtonwho αἰῶναaiōnaforever .”
24διότιdiotiFor , ΠᾶσαPasa“ All σὰρξsarxflesh [is] ὡςhōslike χόρτοςchortosgrass , καὶkaiand πᾶσαpasaall δόξαdoxaglory ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouof Man ὡςhōslike ἄνθοςanthos[the] flowers χόρτουchortouof the field ; ἐξηράνθηexēranthēwithers ὁhothe χόρτοςchortosgrass καὶkaiand τὸtothe ἄνθοςanthosflowers αὐτοῦautouHim ἐξέπεσε·exepesefall ,
25τὸto- δὲdebut ῥῆμαrhēmaword ΚυρίουKyriouof [the] Lord μένειmeneistands εἰςeisvvv τὸνtonvvv αἰῶναaiōnaforever .” ΤοῦτοToutothis δέdeAnd ἐστίestiI have τὸtothe ῥῆμαrhēmaword τὸtothat εὐαγγελισθὲνeuangelisthenwas proclaimed εἰςeisto ὑμᾶςhymasyou .
