1ΕἶχεEichehad μὲνmen- οὖνounNow καὶkai- ἡhēthe πρώτηprōtēfirst [ covenant ] σκηνὴskēnēA tabernacle δικαιώματαdikaiōmataregulations λατρείαςlatreiasfor worship τόto- τεteand also ἅγιονhagionsanctuary . κοσμικόνkosmikonan earthly

2σκηνὴskēnēA tabernacle γὰρgar- κατεσκευάσθηkateskeuasthēwas prepared . ἡhē[its] πρώτηprōtēfirst [room] ἐνenIn ἡhē[its] ἡhē[its] τεte[were] λυχνίαlychnialampstand , καὶkai- ἡhēthe τράπεζαtrapezatable , καὶkaiand ἡhēthe πρόθεσιςprothesisconsecrated τῶνtōn- ἄρτωνartōnbread . ἥτιςhētisThis λέγεταιlegetaiwas called ἍγιαHagia[the] Holy [Place] .

3μετὰmetaBehind δὲde- τὸtothe δεύτερονdeuteronsecond καταπέτασμαkatapetasmacurtain σκηνὴskēnē[was] a room ἡhē- λεγομένηlegomenēcalled ἍγιαHagia[the] Most Holy Place ἁγίωνhagiōn. . . ,

4χρυσοῦνchrysoun[the] golden ἔχουσαechousacontaining θυμιατήριονthymiatērionaltar of incense καὶkaiand τὴνtēnthe κιβωτὸνkibōtonark τῆςtēsof the διαθήκηςdiathēkēscovenant . περικεκαλυμμένηνperikekalymmenēn. . . πάντοθενpantothen. . . χρυσίῳchrysiōgold-covered ἐνenInside ᾗhē[the ark] στάμνοςstamnosjar χρυσῆchrysē[were the] gold ἔχουσαechousaof τὸto- μάνναmannamanna , καὶkai- ἡhē- ῥάβδοςrhabdosstaff ἈαρὼνAarōnAaron’s ἡhē- βλαστήσασαblastēsasahad budded , καὶkaiand αἱhaithe πλάκεςplakesstone tablets τῆςtēsof the διαθήκηςdiathēkēscovenant .

5ὑπεράνωhyperanōAbove δὲde- αὐτῆςautēs[the ark] Χερουβὶμkheroubim[were the] cherubim δόξηςdoxēsof glory , κατασκιάζονταkataskiazontaovershadowing τὸtothe ἱλαστήριονhilastērionmercy seat . περὶperivvv ὧνhōn[these things] οὐκoukvvv ἐστίestiI have νῦνnynnow . λέγεινlegein[But] we cannot discuss κατὰkatain μέροςmerosdetail

6ΤούτωνToutōneverything δὲde[When] οὕτωhoutōso κατεσκευασμένωνkateskeuasmenōnhad been prepared εἰςeisinto μὲνmen- τὴνtēnthe πρώτηνprōtēnfirst σκηνὴνskēnēnroom διὰdiaregularly παντὸςpantos. . . εἰσίασινeisiasinentered οἱhoithe ἱερεῖςhiereispriests τὰςtas[their] λατρείαςlatreiassacred duties . ἐπιτελοῦντεςepitelountesto perform

7εἰςeisinto δὲdeBut τὴνtēnthe δευτέρανdeuteransecond [room] , ἅπαξhapax[and then] only once τοῦtou- ἐνιαυτοῦeniautoua year , μόνοςmonosonly ὁhothe ἀρχιερεύςarchiereushigh priest οὐou[and] never χωρὶςchōriswithout αἵματοςhaimatosblood , ὃhowhich προσφέρειprosphereihe offered ὑπὲρhyperfor ἑαυτοῦheautouhimself καὶkaiand τῶνtōnfor the τοῦtouvvv λαοῦlaouvvv ἀγνοημάτωνagnoēmatōnsins the people had committed in ignorance .

8ΤοῦτοToutoBy this [arrangement] δηλοῦντοςdēlountoswas showing τοῦtou- ΠνεύματοςPneumatosSpirit τοῦtou- ἉγίουHagiouHoly μήπωmēpō{had} not yet πεφανερῶσθαιpephanerōsthaibeen disclosed τὴνtēn[that] the τῶνtōninto the ἁγίωνhagiōn[Most] Holy Place ὁδὸνhodonway ἔτιetistill τῆςtēs{as long as} the πρώτηςprōtēsfirst σκηνῆςskēnēstabernacle ἐχούσηςechousēswas στάσινstasinstanding .

9ἥτιςhētis[It is] παραβολὴparabolēan illustration εἰςeisfor τὸνtonthe καιρὸνkairontime , τὸνton- ἐνεστηκόταenestēkotapresent καθ’kath’because ὧνhōn[these things] δῶράdōra[the] gifts τεte- καὶkaiand θυσίαιthysiaisacrifices προσφέρονταιprospherontaibeing offered μὴmēvvv δυνάμεναιdynamenaiwere unable κατὰkata. . . συνείδησινsyneidēsin[the] conscience τελειῶσαιteleiōsaito cleanse τὸνtonof the λατρεύονταlatreuontaworshiper .

10μόνονmonon[ They consist ] only ἐπὶepiin βρώμασιbromasiby foods καὶkaiand πόμασιpomasidrink καὶkaiand διαφόροιςdiaphoroisspecial βαπτισμοῖςbaptismoiswashings — καὶkaiand δικαιώμασιdikaiomasidecrees σαρκὸςsarkosexternal μέχριmechriuntil καιροῦkairou[the] time διορθώσεωςdiorthōseōsof reform . ἐπικείμεναepikeimenaimposed

11ΧριστὸςChristos[when] Christ δὲdeBut παραγενόμενοςparagenomenoscame as ἀρχιερεὺςarchiereushigh priest τῶνtōnof the μελλόντωνmellontōnthe future . ἀγαθῶνagathōngood things διὰdia[He went through] τῆςtēsthe μείζονοςmeizonosgreater καὶkaiand τελειοτέραςteleioterasmore perfect σκηνῆςskēnēstabernacle οὐounot χειροποιήτουcheiropoiētoumade by hands τοῦτ’tout’that ἔστινestinis οὐounot ταύτηςtautēs[a part] of this τῆςtēs- κτίσεωςktiseōscreation .

12οὐδὲoude[He did not enter] δι’di’by αἵματοςhaimatos[the] blood τράγωνtragōnof goats καὶkaiand μόσχωνmoschōncalves , διὰdiaby δὲdebut τοῦtou[His] ἰδίουidiouown αἵματοςhaimatosblood , εἰσῆλθενeisēlthenHe entered ἐφάπαξephapaxonce for all εἰςeis. . . τὰtathe ἅγιαhagia[Most] Holy Place αἰωνίανaiōnianeternal λύτρωσινlytrōsinredemption . εὑράμενοςheuramenosthus securing

13ΕἰEiif γὰρgarFor τὸtothe αἷμαhaimablood ταύρωνtaurōnbulls καὶkaiand τράγωνtragōnof goats καὶkaiand σποδὸςspodos[the] ashes δαμάλεωςdamaleōsof a heifer ῥαντίζουσαrhantizousasprinkled τοὺςtouson those who are κεκοινωμένουςkekoinōmenousceremonially unclean ἁγιάζειhagiazeisanctify [them] πρὸςprosso that τὴνtēn- τῆςtēs[their] σαρκὸςsarkosbodies καθαρότηταkatharotētaare clean ,

14πόσῳposōhow much μᾶλλονmallonmore τὸto{will} the αἷμαhaimablood τοῦtou- ΧριστοῦChristouof Christ , ὃςhoswho διὰdiathrough ΠνεύματοςPneumatosSpirit αἰωνίουaiōniou[the] eternal ἑαυτὸνheautonHimself προσήνεγκενprosēnenkenoffered ἄμωμονamōmonunblemished τῷtō- ΘεῷTheōto God , καθαριεῖkatharieipurify τὴνtēn- συνείδησινsyneidēsinconsciences ὑμῶνhymōnyour ἀπὸapofrom νεκρῶνnekrōnof death , ἔργωνergōnworks εἰςeisso that τὸto- λατρεύεινlatreueinwe may serve ΘεῷTheōGod ! ζῶντιzōnti[the] living

15ΚαὶKai- διὰdiaTherefore τοῦτοtouto. . . διαθήκηςdiathēkēscovenant , καινῆςkainēsof a new μεσίτηςmesitēs[the] mediator ἐστίνestin[Christ] is ὅπωςhopōsso that θανάτουthanatounow that He has died γενομένουgenomenou. . . εἰςeisto ἀπολύτρωσινapolytrōsinredeem [them] τῶνtōnfrom the ἐπὶepiunder τῇtēthe πρώτῃprōtēfirst διαθήκῃdiathēkēcovenant . παραβάσεωνparabaseōntransgressions [committed] τὴνtēnthe ἐπαγγελίανepangelianpromised λάβωσινlabōsinmay receive οἱhoithose who κεκλημένοιkeklēmenoiare called τῆςtēs- αἰωνίουaiōnioueternal κληρονομίαςklēronomiasinheritance ,

16ὍπουHopouIn the case of γὰρgar- διαθήκῃdiathēkēcovenant . θάνατονthanaton[the] death ἀνάγκηanankē[it is] necessary φέρεσθαιpheresthaito establish τοῦtouof the [one who] διαθεμένουdiathemenoumade [it] ,

17διαθήκηdiathēkēa will γὰρgarbecause ἐπὶepiuntil νεκροῖςnekroishas died ; βεβαίαbebaia[does not] take effect ἐπεὶepei- μήποτέmepotethat at not time, lest ever ἰσχύειischyeiit cannot be executed ὅτεhotewhile ζῇzēhe is still alive . ὁhothe [one who] διαθέμενοςdiathemenosmade [it]

18ὍθενHothenThat is why οὐδ’oud’Nor [did He enter heaven] ἡhē{even} the πρώτηprōtēfirst [covenant] χωρὶςchōriswithout αἵματοςhaimatosblood . ἐγκεκαίνισται·egkekainistaiwas not put into effect

19λαληθείσηςlalētheisēshad proclaimed γὰρgarFor [when] πάσηςpasēsevery ἐντολῆςentolēscommandment κατὰkataof τὸνtonthe νόμονnomonlaw ὑπὸhypo- ΜωϋσέωςMōuseōsMoses παντὶpantito all τῷtōthe λαῷlaōpeople , λαβὼνlabōnhe took τὸtothe αἷμαhaimablood τῶνtōn- μόσχωνmoschōnof calves καὶkaiand τράγωνtragōngoats , μετὰmetaalong with ὕδατοςhydatoswater , καὶkai- ἐρίουeriouwool , κοκκίνουkokkinouscarlet καὶkai- ὑσσώπουhyssōpouhyssop , αὐτόauto- τεte- τὸtothe βιβλίονbiblionscroll καὶkaiand πάνταpantaall τὸνtonthe λαὸνlaonpeople , ἐράντισεerantise[and] sprinkled

20λέγωνlegōnsaying , ΤοῦτοTouto“ This [is] τὸtothe αἷμαhaimablood τῆςtēsof the διαθήκηςdiathēkēscovenant , ἧςhēswhich ἐνετείλατοeneteilatohas commanded πρὸςpros- ὑμᾶςhymasyou [to keep] .” ὁho- ΘεόςTheosGod

21ΚαὶKai- τὴνtēnthe σκηνὴνskēnēntabernacle δὲde- καὶkaiand πάνταpantaall τὰtathe σκεύηskeuēvessels τῆςtēsused in λειτουργίαςleitourgiasworship . τῷtōwith αἵματιhaimatiblood ὁμοίωςhomoiōsIn the same way , ἐράντισε.erantise[and] sprinkled

22ΚαὶKai- σχεδὸνschedonnearly ἐνenwith αἵματιhaimatiblood , πάνταpantaeverything καθαρίζεταιkatharizetaimust be purified κατὰkataAccording to τὸνtonthe νόμονnomonlaw , καὶkaiin fact , χωρὶςchōriswithout αἱματεκχυσίαςhaimatekchysiasthe shedding of blood οὐouno γίνεταιginetaithere is ἄφεσιςaphesisforgiveness .

23ἈνάγκηAnankē[it was] necessary οὖνounSo τὰta[for] the μὲνmen- ὑποδείγματαhypodeigmatacopies τῶνtōnthings ἐνenvvv τοῖςtoisvvv οὐρανοῖςouranois[of] the heavenly τούτοιςtoutoiswith these [sacrifices] , καθαρίζεσθαιkatharizesthaito be purified αὐτὰautathemselves δὲdebut τὰtathe ἐπουράνιαepouraniaheavenly things κρείττοσιkreittosiwith better θυσίαιςthysiaissacrifices παρὰparathan ταύταςtautasthese .

24οὐou. . . γὰρgarFor εἰςeis. . . χειροποίηταcheiropoiētaa man-made ἅγιαhagiasanctuary , εἰσῆλθενeisēlthendid not enter ὁhothe ΧριστόςChristosChrist ἀντίτυπαantitypacopy τῶνtōnof the ἀληθινῶνalēthinōntrue ἀλλ’all’but εἰςeis[He entered] αὐτὸνautonitself , τὸνton- οὐρανόνouranonheaven νῦνnynnow ἐμφανισθῆναιemphanisthēnaito appear τῷtōin the προσώπῳprosōpōpresence τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God . ὑπὲρhyperon our behalf ἡμῶνhēmōn. . .

25οὐδ’oud’Nor [did He enter heaven] ἵναhinato πολλάκιςpollakisagain and again , προσφέρῃprospherēoffer ἑαυτόνheautonHimself ὥσπερhōsperas ὁhothe ἀρχιερεὺςarchiereushigh priest εἰσέρχεταιeiserchetaienters εἰςeis. . . τὰtathe ἅγιαhagia[Most] Holy Place κατ’kat’every ἐνιαυτὸνeniautonyear ἐνenwith αἵματιhaimatiblood ἀλλοτρίῳallotriōthat is not his own .

26ἘπεὶEpeiOtherwise , ἔδειedeiwould have had αὐτὸνauton[Christ] πολλάκιςpollakisrepeatedly παθεῖνpatheinto suffer ἀπὸaposince καταβολῆςkatabolēs[the] foundation κόσμουkosmouof [the] world . νῦνnynnow δὲdebut ἅπαξhapaxonce [for all] ἐπὶepiat συντελείᾳsynteleia[the] end τῶνtōnof the αἰώνωνaiōnōnages εἰςeisto ἀθέτησινathetēsindo away with ἁμαρτίαςhamartiassin διὰdiaby τῆςtēsthe θυσίαςthysiassacrifice αὐτοῦautouof Himself . πεφανέρωταιpephanerōtaiHe has appeared

27ΚαὶKai- καθ’kath’Just ὅσονhosonas ἀπόκειταιapokeitaiis appointed τοῖςtois- ἀνθρώποιςanthrōpoisman ἅπαξhapaxonce , ἀποθανεῖνapothaneinto die μετὰmetaafter δὲdeand τοῦτοtoutothat κρίσιςkrisis[to face] judgment ,

28οὕτωhoutōso καὶkaialso ὁho- ΧριστόςChristosChrist ἅπαξhapaxonce προσενεχθεὶςprosenechtheiswas offered εἰςeisto τὸto- πολλῶνpollōnof many ; ἀνενεγκεῖνanenenkeinbear ἁμαρτίαςhamartias[the] sins ἐκek- δευτέρουdeuteroua second time , χωρὶςchōrisnot to bear ἁμαρτίαςhamartiassin , ὀφθήσεταιophthēsetai[and] He will appear τοῖςtoisto those who αὐτὸνautonHim . ἀπεκδεχομένοιςapekdechomenoiseagerly await εἰςeis[but] to [bring] σωτηρίανsōtēriansalvation
