2ΚαὶKai- συμφωνήσαςsymphōnēsasHe agreed μετὰmeta[to pay] τῶνtōn- ἐργατῶνergatōn[them] ἐκekfor δηναρίουdēnarioua denarius τὴνtēnthe ἡμέρανhēmeranday ἀπέστειλενapesteilen[and] sent αὐτοὺςautousthem εἰςeisinto τὸνton- ἀμπελῶναampelōnavineyard . αὐτοῦautouhis
3ΚαὶKai- ἐξελθὼνexelthōnhe went out περὶperiAbout τρίτηνtritēnthe third ὥρανhōranhour εἶδενeiden[and] saw ἄλλουςallousothers ἑστῶταςhestōtasstanding ἐνenin τῇthe ἀγορᾷagoramarketplace ἀργούςargousdoing nothing .
4καὶkaialso ἐκείνοιςekeinois- , εἶπενeipenhe said ὙπάγετεHypagetego καὶkaialso ὑμεῖςhymeis‘ You εἰςeisinto τὸνton[my] ἀμπελῶναampelōnavineyard , ’ καὶkai- howhatever ἐὰνean. . . ēis δίκαιονdikaionright . ’ δώσωdōsōI will pay ὑμῖνhyminyou οἱhoi- δὲdeSo ἀπῆλθονapēlthonthey went .
5ΠάλινPalinagain ἐξελθὼνexelthōnHe went out περὶperiabout ἕκτηνhektēn[the] sixth [hour] καὶkaiand ἐνάτηνenatēn[the] ninth ὥρανhōranhour ἐποίησενepoiēsen[and] did ὡσαύτωςhōsautōsthe same thing .
6ΠερὶPeriAbout δὲde- τὴνtēnthe ἑνδεκάτηνhendekatēneleventh [hour] ἐξελθὼνexelthōnhe went out εὗρενheuren[and] found ἄλλουςallousstill others ἑστῶταςhestōtasstanding [around] . ἀργούςargousdoing nothing . καὶkaialso λέγειlegeihe asked αὐτοῖςautois. . . . ΤίTi‘ Why ὧδεhōdehere ἑστήκατεhestēkatehave you been standing ὅληνholēnall τὴνtēn- ἡμέρανhēmeranday [long] ἀργοίargoidoing nothing ? ’
7ΛέγουσινLegousinthey answered αὐτῷautō. . . . ὍτιHoti‘ Because οὐδεὶςoudeisno one ἡμᾶςhēmasus , ’ ἐμισθώσατοemisthōsatohas hired ΛέγειLegeiSo he told αὐτοῖςautoisthem , ὙπάγετεHypagetego καὶkaialso ὑμεῖςhymeis‘ You εἰςeisinto τὸνton[my] ἀμπελῶναampelōnavineyard .’ καὶkaialso hothe ἐὰνean. . . ēis δίκαιονdikaionright . ’ λήψεσθε.lepsestheyou will receive
8ὈψίαςOpsiasevening δὲdeWhen γενομένηςgenomenēscame , λέγειlegeisaid hothe κύριοςkyriosowner τοῦtouof the ἀμπελῶνοςampelōnosvineyard τῷto ἐπιτρόπῳepitropōforeman , αὐτοῦautouhis ΚάλεσονKaleson‘ Call τοὺςtousthe ἐργάταςergatasworkers καὶkaiand ἀπόδοςapodospay ‹αὐτοῖς›autoisthem τὸνton[their] μισθόνmisthonwages , ἀρξάμενοςarxamenosstarting ἀπὸapowith τῶνtōnthe ἐσχάτωνeschatōnlast [ones hired] ἕωςheōsand moving on τῶνtōnto the πρώτωνprōtōnfirst . ’
9Καὶ*Kai- ἐλθόντεςelthontescame [and] οἱhoithe περὶperiabout τὴνtēnthe ἑνδεκάτηνhendekatēneleventh ὥρανhōranhour ἔλαβονelabonreceived ἀνὰanaeach δηνάριονdēnariona denarius .
10ἐλθόντεςelthontescame [and] δὲde- οἱhoi[men who were hired] πρῶτοιprōtoioriginal [workers] ἐνόμισανenomisanthey assumed ὅτιhoti- πλείοναpleionavvv λήψονται,lepsontaiwill receive καὶkaiBut ἔλαβονelabonreceived καὶkaialso αὐτοίautoiof them ἀνὰanaeach δηνάριονdēnariona denarius .
11ΛαβόντεςLabontesOn receiving [their pay] , δὲde- ἐγόγγυζονegongyzonthey began to grumble κατὰkataagainst τοῦtouthe οἰκοδεσπότουoikodespotoulandowner .
12λέγοντεςlegontesthey said , ὅτιhoti- ΟὗτοιHoutoi‘ These οἱhoi[men who were hired] ἔσχατοιeschatoilast μίανmianonly one ὥρανhōranhour , ’ ἐποίησανepoiēsanworked καὶkai‘ and ἴσουςisousequal ἡμῖνhēminto us αὐτοὺςautousthem ἐποίησαςepoiēsasyou have made τοῖςtoiswho βαστάσασιbastasasihave borne τὸtothe βάροςbarosburden τῆςtēsof the ἡμέραςhēmerasday . ’ καὶkaiand τὸνtonthe καύσωναkausōnascorching heat
13Ho- δὲdeBut ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheishe answered εἶπενeipen- , ἑνὶhenione αὐτῶνautōnof them ἙταῖρεHetaire‘ Friend , οὐκoukvvv ἀδικῶadikōI am not being unfair σεseto you . οὐχὶouchivvv δηναρίουdēnariouon one denarius ? συνεφώνησάςsynephōnēsasDid you not agree μοιmoiwith me
14ἆρονaronTake τὸto[pay] σὸνsonyour καὶkaiand ὕπαγεhypagego . θέλωthelōI want δὲde- τούτῳtoutōthis τῷ- ἐσχάτῳeschatōlast [man] δοῦναιdounaito give ὡςhōsthe same as καὶkai[I gave] σοίsoiyou .
15[ἢ]ēvvv οὐκoukvvv ἔξεστίexestiis unlawful μοιmoi. . . ποιῆσαιpoiēsaito do hoas θέλωthelōI please ἐνenwith τοῖςtoiswhat [is] ἐμοῖςemoismine ? εἰeionly for ho. . . ὀφθαλμόςophthalmos. . . σουsou. . . πονηρόςponērosenvious ἐστινestinare you ὅτιhotibecause ἐγὼegōI ἀγαθόςagathosgenerous ? ’ εἰμιeimiam
16ΟὕτωςHoutōsSo ἔσονταιesontaiwill be οἱhoithe ἔσχατοιeschatoilast πρῶτοιprōtoifirst , καὶkaiand οἱhoithe πρῶτοιprōtoifirst ἔσχατοιeschatoi[will be] last .” πολλοὶpolloiMany γὰρgarfor εἰσιeisiare κλητοὶklētoicalled , ὀλίγοιoligoionly a few δὲde- ἐκλεκτοίeklektoichosen . ”
17καὶkaiand ἀναβαίνωνanabainōnwas going up ὁ›ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἰςeisto ἹεροσόλυμαHierosolymaJerusalem , παρέλαβεparelabeembraced τοὺςtousthe δώδεκαdōdekatwelve ‹μαθητὰς›mathētasdisciples κατ’kat’aside ἰδίανidian- ἐνen- τῇ- ὁδῷhodō- ‹ΚαὶKaiAs εἶπενeipensaid αὐτοῖςautois- ,
18ἸδοὺIdou“ Look , ἀναβαίνομενanabainomenwe are going up εἰςeisto ἹεροσόλυμαHierosolymaJerusalem , καὶkaiand hothe ΥἱὸςHuiosSon τοῦtou- ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouof Man παραδοθήσεταιparadothēsetaiwill be delivered over τοῖςtoisto the ἀρχιερεῦσιarkhiereusichief priests καὶkaiand γραμματεῦσι,grammateusiscribes . καὶkaiand κατακρινοῦσινkatakrinousinThey will condemn αὐτὸνautonHim θανάτῳ*thanatōdeath
19καὶkaiand παραδώσουσινparadōsousinwill deliver αὐτὸνautonHim {over} τοῖςtoisthe ἔθνεσινethnesinGentiles εἰςeisto τὸto- ἐμπαῖξαιempaixaito be mocked καὶkaiand μαστιγῶσαιmastigōsaiflogged καὶkaiand σταυρῶσαιstaurōsaicrucified . καὶkaiAnd τῇon the τρίτῃtritēthird ἡμέρᾳhēmeraday ἀναστήσεταιanastēsetaiHe will rise again . ”
20ΤότεToteThen προσῆλθενprosēlthencame αὐτῷautōto [Jesus] the μήτηρmētērmother τῶνtōn- υἱῶνhuiōnsons ΖεβεδαίουZebedaiouof Zebedee’s μετὰmetawith τῶνtōn- υἱῶνhuiōnsons αὐτῆςautēsher προσκυνοῦσαproskynousa[and] knelt down καὶkai- αἰτοῦσάaitousato make a request τιti. . . παρ’par’from αὐτοῦautouHim .
21Ho- δὲde- εἶπενeipenHe inquired αὐτῇautē- . ΤίTi“ What θέλειςtheleisdo you want ? ” ΛέγειLegeiShe answered αὐτῷautō. . . , ΕἰπὲEipe“ Declare ἵναhinathat καθίσωσινkathisōsinmay sit οὗτοιhoutoiof these οἱhoi- δύοdyotwo υἱοίhuioisons μουmouof mine εἷςheisone ἐκekat δεξιῶνdexiōnright hand , ‹σου›souYour καὶkaiand εἷςheis[the other] ἐξexat εὐωνύμωνeuōnymōnleft . ” σουsouYour ἐνenin τῇ- βασιλείᾳbasileiakingdom σουsouYour
22ἈποκριθεὶςApokritheisreplied δὲde- ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἶπενeipen- . ΟὐκOuk“ vvv οἴδατεoidateYou do not know τίtiwhat αἰτεῖσθεaiteistheyou are asking , ” δύνασθεdynasthe“ Can you πιεῖνpieindrink τὸtothe ποτήριονpotērioncup ho- ἐγὼegōI μέλλωmellōam going πίνεινpineinto drink ?” the τὸto- βάπτισμαbaptisma. . . hothe ἐγὼegōI βαπτίζομαιvaptizomaiam baptized βαπτισθῆναιbaptisthēnaito undergo , ΛέγουσινLegousin[the brothers] answered αὐτῷautō. . . . ΔυνάμεθαDynametha“ We can , ”
23καὶkai[or] ΛέγειLegei[Jesus] said αὐτοῖςautois- . τὸto- μὲνmen“ vvv ποτήριόνpotērioncup ,” μουmouMy πίεσθεpiestheYou will indeed drink καὶkai[or] τὸto- βάπτισμαbaptisma. . . ho- ἐγὼegōI βαπτίζομαιvaptizomaiam baptized βαπτισθήσεσθεvaptisthisesthebe baptized τὸtothe δὲde- καθίσαιkathisaito sit ἐκekat δεξιῶνdexiōnright μουmouMy καὶkai[or] ἐξex- εὐωνύμωνeuōnymōnleft μουmouMy οὐκouknot ἔστινestinis ἐμὸνemonMine δοῦναιdounaito grant . ἀλλ’all’[These seats belong] οἷςhoisto those for whom ἡτοίμασταιhētoimastaihas prepared them . ” ὑπὸhypo- τοῦtou- ΠατρόςPatrosFather μουmouMy
24ΚαὶKaiWhen ἀκούσαντεςakousantesheard about [this] , οἱhoithe δέκαdekaten ἠγανάκτησανēganaktēsanthey were indignant περὶperiwith τῶνtōnthe δύοdyotwo ἀδελφῶνadelphōnbrothers .
25ho- δὲdeBut ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus προσκαλεσάμενοςproskalesamenoscalled them aside αὐτοὺςautous. . . εἶπενeipen[and] said , ΟἴδατεOidate“ You know ὅτιhotithat οἱhoithe ἄρχοντεςarchontesrulers τῶνtōnof the ἐθνῶνethnōnGentiles κατακυριεύουσινkatakyrieuousinlord it over αὐτῶνautōnthem , καὶkaiand οἱhoi[their] μεγάλοιmegaloisuperiors κατεξουσιάζουσινkatexousiazousinexercise authority over αὐτῶνautōnthem .
26οὐχouchvvv οὕτωςhoutōsthis way ἔσται*estaiIt shall not be ἐνenamong ὑμῖνhyminyou . ἀλλ’all’Instead , ὃςhoswhoever ἐὰνean. . . θέλῃthelēwants ἐνenamong ὑμῖνhyminyou μέγαςmegasgreat γενέσθαιgenesthaito become ἔσταιestaimust be ὑμῶνhymōnyour διάκονοςdiakonosservant ,
27καὶkaiand ὃςhoswhoever ἂνan. . . θέλῃthelēwants ἐνenamong ὑμῖνhyminyou εἶναιeinaito be πρῶτοςprōtosfirst ἔσταιestaimust be ὑμῶνhymōnyour δοῦλοςdoulosslave —
28ὥσπερhōsperjust as hothe ΥἱὸςHuiosSon τοῦtou- ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouof Man οὐκoukvvv ἔλθῃelthēshould come διακονηθῆναιdiakonēthēnaito be served , ἀλλὰallabut διακονῆσαιdiakonēsaito serve , καὶkaiand δοῦναιdounaito give τὴνtēn- ψυχὴνpsychēnlife αὐτοῦautouHis λύτρονlytron[as] a ransom ἀντὶantifor πολλῶνpollōnmany . ”
29ΚαὶKai- ἐκπορευομένωνekporeuomenōnwere leaving αὐτῶνautōn[As] they ἀπὸapo. . . ἸεριχὼIerichōJericho , ἠκολούθησενēkolouthēsenfollowed αὐτῷautōHim . ὄχλοςochloscrowd πολύςpolysa large
30καὶkaiAnd ἰδοὺidouthere were δύοdyotwo τυφλοὶtyphloiblind [men] καθήμενοιkathēmenoisitting παρὰparabeside τὴνtēnthe ὁδόνhodonroad . ἀκούσαντεςakousantesWhen they heard ὅτιhotithat ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus παράγειparageiwas passing by , ἔκραξανekraxanthey cried out λέγοντεςlegontes. . . , ἐλέησόνeleēsonhave mercy on ἡμᾶς»hēmasus ! ” ΚύριεKyrie“ Lord , υἱὸςhuiosSon ΔαυίδDauidof David ,
31HoThe δὲde- ὄχλοςochloscrowd ἐπετίμησενepetimēsenadmonished αὐτοῖςautoisthem ἵναhina- σιωπήσωσινsiōpēsōsinto be silent , οἱhoi- δὲdebut μεῖζονmeizonall the louder ἔκραζονekrazonthey shouted λέγοντεςlegontes- , ἐλέησόνeleēsonhave mercy on ἡμᾶς»hēmasus ! ” ΚύριεKyrie“ Lord , υἱὸςhuiosSon ΔαυίδDauidof David ,
32ΚαὶKai- στὰςstasstopped ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἐφώνησενephōnēsen[and] called αὐτοὺςautousthem . καὶkai- ΕἰπὲEipe“ Declare ΤίTi“ What θέλετεtheletedo you want ποιήσωpoiēsōMe to do ὑμῖνhyminfor you ? ”
33ΛέγουσινLegousinthey answered αὐτῷautō. . . , ΚύριεKyrie“ Lord , ” ἵναhina“ let ἀνοιχθῶσινanoikhthosinbe opened . ” ἡμῶνhēmōnour οἱhoi- ὀφθαλμοὶophthalmoieyes
34ΣπλαγχνισθεὶςSplanchnistheisMoved with compassion , δὲde- ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἥψατοhēpsatotouched τῶνtōn- ὀφθαλμῶνophthalmōneyes . αὐτῶνautōntheir καὶkaiand εὐθέωςeutheōsat once ἀνέβλεψανaneblepsanthey received their sight αὐτῶνautōntheir οἱhoi- ὀφθαλμοὶophthalmoieyes καὶkai- ἠκολούθησανēkolouthēsanfollowed αὐτῷautōHim .
