1ΜετὰMetaAfter ταῦταtautathis εἶδονeidonI saw ἄλλονallonanother ἄγγελονangelonangel καταβαίνονταkatabainontadescending ἐκekfrom τοῦtou- οὐρανοῦouranouheaven ἔχονταechontawith ἐξουσίανexousianauthority , μεγάληνmegalēngreat καὶkaiand ἡhēthe γῆgēearth ἐφωτίσθηephōtisthēwas illuminated ἐκekby τῆςtēs- δόξηςdoxēsglory . αὐτοῦautouhis
2καὶkaiAnd ἔκραξενekraxenhe cried out ἐνenin ἰσχυρᾷischyraa mighty φωνῇphōnēvoice λέγωνlegōn- : ἜπεσενEpesen“ Fallen , ἔπεσεepesefell ΒαβυλὼνBabylōnBabylon ἡhēthe μεγάληmegalēgreat ! καὶkai- ἐγένετοegenetoShe has become κατοικητήριονkatoikētēriona lair δαιμονίωνdaimoniōnfor demons καὶkaiand φυλακὴphylakēa haunt παντὸςpantosfor every πνεύματοςpneumatosspirit , ἀκαθάρτουakathartouunclean καὶkai- φυλακὴphylakē- παντὸςpantosevery ὀρνέουorneoubird , ἀκαθάρτουakathartouunclean ‹καὶkaiand μεμισημένουmemisēmenoudetestable
3ὅτιhoti- ἐκek- τοῦtouthe οἴνουoinouwine τοῦtouof the θυμοῦthymoupassion τῆςtēsof πορνείαςporneiasimmorality . αὐτῆςautēsher πέπωκανpepōkanhave drunk πάνταpantaAll τὰtathe ἔθνηethnēnations καὶkai- οἱhoiThe βασιλεῖςbasileiskings τῆςtēsof the γῆςgēsearth μετ’met’with αὐτῆςautēsher , ἐπόρνευσανeporneusanwere immoral καὶkaiand οἱhoithe ἔμποροιemporoimerchants τῆςtēsof the γῆςgēsearth ἐκekfrom τῆςtēsthe δυνάμεωςdynameōsextravagance τοῦtouof στρήνουςstrēnousluxury . ” αὐτῆςautēsher ἐπλούτησανeploutēsanhave grown wealthy
4καὶkaiand ἤκουσαēkousaI heard ἄλληνallēnanother φωνὴνphōnēnvoice ἐκekfrom τοῦtou- οὐρανοῦouranouheaven λέγουσανlegousansay : ἜξελθεExelthe‘ Go out ἐξexout of αὐτῆςautēsher , ὁho- λαόςlaospeople , μουmouMy ἵναhinaso that μὴmēvvv συγκοινωνήσητεsugkoinoneseteyou will not share ταῖςtaisin ἁμαρτίαιςhamartiaissins αὐτῆςautēsher καὶkai[or] ἵναhina- ἐκek[any] of τῶνtōn- πληγῶνplēgōnplagues . αὐτῆςautēsher μὴmēvvv λάβητεlabētecontract
5ὅτιhotiFor ἐκολλήθησανekollēthēsanare piled αὐτῆςautēsher αἱhai- ἁμαρτίαιhamartiaisins ἄχριachriup to τοῦtou- οὐρανοῦouranouheaven , καὶkaiand ἐμνημόνευσενemnēmoneusenhas remembered ὁho- ΘεὸςTheosGod τὰta- ἀδικήματαadikēmatainiquities . αὐτῆςautēsher
6ἀπόδοτεapodoteGive back αὐτῇautēto her ὡςhōsas καὶkai- αὐτὴautēshe ἀπέδωκε,apedokegave him back καὶkai- διπλώσατεdiplōsatepay her back αὐτὴautēshe διπλᾶdipladouble κατὰkatafor what τὰta- ἔργαergahas done ; αὐτῆςautēsshe ἐνenin τῷtō[her own] ποτηρίῳpotēriōcup ᾧhō- ἐκέρασεekerase- . κεράσατεkerasatemix αὐτῇautēher διπλοῦνdiplouna double [portion]
7ὅσαhosaAs much as ἐδόξασενedoxasenshe has glorified αὑτὴνhautēnherself καὶkaiand ἐστρηνίασε,estreniaselived in luxury , τοσοῦτονtosoutonthe same measure δότεdotegive αὐτῇautēher βασανισμὸνbasanismonof torment καὶkaiand πένθοςpenthosgrief . ὅτιhoti- ἐνenIn τῇtē- καρδίᾳkardiaheart αὐτῆςautēsher λέγειlegeishe says ὅτιhoti- , ΚάθημαιKathēmai‘ I sit καθὼςkathōsas βασίλισσαbasilissa[as] queen ; καὶkai- χήραchēraa widow οὐκouknot εἰμίeimiI am καὶkai- πένθοςpenthosgrief . ’ οὐou{will} never μὴmē. . . ἴδωidōsee
8διὰdiaTherefore τοῦτοtouto. . . ἐνenin μιᾷmiaone ἡμέρᾳhēmeraday — ἥξουσινhēxousinwill come αἱhai- πληγαὶplēgaiplagues αὐτῆςautēsher θάνατοςthanatosdeath καὶkaiand πένθοςpenthosgrief καὶkaiand λιμόςlimosfamine — καὶkaiand ἐνenby πυρὶpyrifire , κατακαυθήσεταιkatakauthēsetaishe will be consumed ὅτιhotifor ἰσχυρὸςischyrosmighty [is the] ΚύριοςKyriosLord ὁho- ΘεὸςTheosGod ὁhowho κρίναςkrinasjudges αὐτήνautēnher . ”
9ΚαὶKaiThen κλαύσουσινklausousinwill weep αὐτὴνautēn- καὶkaiand κόψονταιkopsontaiwail ἐπ’ep’at αὐτῇautēher οἱhoithe βασιλεῖςbasileiskings τῆςtēsof the γῆςgēsearth οἱhoiwho μετ’met’with αὐτῆςautēsher πορνεύσαντεςporneusantescommitted sexual immorality καὶkaiand στρηνιάσαντεςstrēniasanteslived in luxury ὅτανhotanvvv βλέπωσιbleposithey may not see ; τὸνtonthe καπνὸνkapnonsmoke [rising] τῆςtēsfrom πυρώσεωςpyrōseōsthe fire that consumes αὐτῆςautēsher .
10ἀπὸapoat μακρόθενmakrothena distance ἑστηκότεςhestēkotesthey will stand διὰdiaIn τὸνton- φόβονphobonfear τοῦtouof βασανισμοῦbasanismoutorment , αὐτῆςautēsher λέγοντεςlegontes[and] cry out : ΟὐαὶOuai“ Woe , ΟὐαὶOuai“ Woe , ἡhēto the πόλιςpoliscity , ἡhēthe μεγάληmegalēgreat ΒαβυλὼνBabylōnof Babylon ! ἡhē- πόλιςpoliscity ἡhē- ἰσχυράischyramighty ὅτιhotiFor [in] μιᾷmiaa single ὥρᾳhōrahour ἦλθενēlthenhas come . ” ἡhē- κρίσιςkrisisjudgment σουsouyour
11ΚαὶKaiAnd οἱhoithe ἔμποροιemporoimerchants τῆςtēsof the γῆςgēsearth κλαίουσιklaiousiweeping . καὶkaiand πενθοῦσινpenthousinmourn ἐπ’ep’over αὐτῇautēher ὅτιhoti- τῶνtōn- γόμονgomoncargo — αὐτῶνautōntheir οὐδεὶςoudeisno one ἀγοράζειagorazeito buy οὐκέτιouketileft
12γόμονgomoncargo — χρυσοῦchrysouof gold , καὶkai- ἀργύρουargyrousilver , καὶkai- λίθουlithoustones , τιμίουtimiouprecious καὶkai- μαργαρίτουmargaritoupearl . καὶkai- βυσσίνουbyssinoufine linen , καὶkai- πορφύραςporphyraspurple , καὶkai- σηρικοῦserikousilk , καὶkai- κοκκίνουkokkinouscarlet ; καὶkai- πᾶνpanof all kinds ξύλονxylonwood θύϊνονthuinonof citron καὶkaiand πᾶνpanevery σκεῦοςskeuosarticle ἐλεφάντινονelephantinonof ivory , καὶkai- πᾶνpan- σκεῦοςskeuos- ἐκek- ξύλουxylouwood , τιμιωτάτουtimiōtatouprecious καὶkai- χαλκοῦchalkoubronze , καὶkai- σιδήρουsidērouiron , καὶkaiand μαρμάρουmarmaroumarble ;
13καὶkai- κινάμωμονkinamomonof cinnamon , καὶkai- ἄμωμονamōmonspice , καὶkai- θυμιάματαthymiamataincense , καὶkai- μύρονmyronmyrrh , καὶkaiand λίβανονlibanonfrankincense ; καὶkai- οἶνονoinonof wine , καὶkai- ἔλαιονelaionolive oil , καὶkai- σεμίδαλινsemidalinfine flour , καὶkaiand σῖτονsitonwheat ; καὶkai- κτήνηktēnēof cattle , καὶkai- πρόβαταprobatasheep , καὶkai- ἵππωνhippōnhorses , καὶkaiand ῥεδῶνrhedōnchariots ; καὶkai- σωμάτωνsōmatōnof slaves καὶkaiand ψυχὰςpsychassouls ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnof men .
14ΚαὶKaiAnd [they will say] : ἡhē“ The ὀπώραopōrafruit τῆςtēs- ἐπιθυμίαςepithymiasdesire τῆςtēs- ψυχῆςpsychēssoul’s σουsouof your ἀπώλετοapōletohave vanished ἀπὸapo- σοῦsou- , καὶkai- πάνταpantaall τὰta[your] λιπαρὰliparaluxury καὶkaiand τὰta- λαμπρὰlamprasplendor ἀπῆλθενapēlthenhas departed ἀπὸapofrom σοῦsouyou ; καὶkai- οὐκέτιouketi[again] . ” οὐouvvv μὴmēvvv αὐτὰauta- εὑρήσειςheurēseisyou will find
15ΟἱHoiThe ἔμποροιemporoimerchants τούτωνtoutōnwho sold these things οἱhoi- πλουτήσαντεςploutēsantes[and] grew their wealth ἀπ’ap’from αὐτῆςautēsher ἀπὸapoat μακρόθενmakrothena distance , στήσονταιstēsontaiwill stand διὰdiain τὸνton- φόβονphobonfear τοῦtouof βασανισμοῦbasanismoutorment . αὐτῆςautēsher κλαίοντεςklaiontesThey will weep καὶkaiand πενθοῦντεςpenthountesmourn ,
16λέγοντεςlegontessaying : ΟὐαὶOuai“ Woe , ΟὐαὶOuai“ Woe , ἡhēto the πόλιςpoliscity , ἡhē- μεγάληmegalēgreat ἡhē- περιβεβλημένηperibeblēmenēclothed in βύσσινονbyssinonfine linen καὶkaiand πορφυροῦνporphyrounpurple καὶkaiand κόκκινονkokkinonscarlet , καὶkai- κεχρυσωμένηkechrysōmenēadorned ἐνenwith χρυσίῳchrysiōgold καὶkaiand λίθῳlithōstones τιμίῳtimiōprecious καὶkaiand μαργαρίταιςmargaritaispearls . ὅτιhotiFor [in] μιᾷmiaa single ὥρᾳhōrahour ἠρημώθηērēmōthēhas been destroyed ! ” ὁho- τοσοῦτοςtosoutossuch fabulous πλοῦτοςploutoswealth
17ΚαὶKai- πᾶςpasEvery κυβερνήτηςkybernētēsshipmaster , καὶkai- πᾶςpas- ὁhopassenger ἐπὶepi. . . τόπονtopon. . . , πλέωνpleōn. . . καὶkaiand ναῦταιnautaisailor , καὶkaiand ὅσοιhosoiall who τὴνtēnfrom the θάλασσανthalassansea , ἐργάζονταιergazontaimake their living ἀπὸapoat μακρόθενmakrothena distance ἔστησανestēsanwill stand
18καὶkaiand ἔκραζονekrazoncry out βλέποντεςblepontesat the sight τὸνtonof the καπνὸνkapnonsmoke [rising] τῆςtēsfrom πυρώσεωςpyrōseōsthe fire that consumes αὐτῆςautēsher . λέγοντεςlegontesthey will exclaim . ΤίςTis“ What [city was ever] ὁμοίαhomoialike τῇtē- πόλειpoleicity ? ” τῇtē[this] μεγάλῃmegalēgreat
19ΚαὶKaiThen ἔβαλονebalonthey will throw χοῦνchoundust ἐπὶepion τὰςtas- κεφαλὰςkephalasheads αὐτῶνautōntheir καὶkaiand ἔκραζονekrazoncry out κλαίοντεςklaiontesas they weep καὶkaiand πενθοῦντεςpenthountesmourn λέγοντεςlegontes. . . : ΟὐαὶOuai“ Woe , ΟὐαὶOuai“ Woe , ἡhēto the πόλιςpoliscity , ᾗhē[where] μεγάληmegalēgreat ἐνenvvv ᾗhē[where] ἐπλούτησανeploutēsanwere enriched πάντεςpantesall οἱhoiwho ἔχοντεςechonteshad τὰta- πλοῖαploiaships ἐνenon τῇtēthe θαλάσσῃthalassēsea ἐκekby τῆςtēs- τιμιότητοςtimiotētoswealth ! αὐτῆςautēsher ὅτιhotiFor μιᾷmiain a single ὥρᾳhōrahour ἠρημώθηērēmōthēshe has been destroyed . ”
20ΕὐφραίνουEuphrainouRejoice ἐπ’ep’over αὐτῇautēher , οὐρανέouraneO heaven , καὶkai[O] οἱhoi- ἅγιοιhagioisaints καὶkaiand οἱhoi- ἀπόστολοιapostoloiapostles καὶkaiand οἱhoi- προφῆταιprophētaiprophets , ὅτιhotibecause ἔκρινενekrinenhas pronounced ὁho- ΘεὸςTheosGod τὸto- κρίμαkrima[His] judgment ὑμῶνhymōnfor you ἐξexagainst αὐτῆςautēsher .
21ΚαὶKaiThen ἦρενērenpicked up εἷςheisa ἄγγελοςangelosangel ἰσχυρὸςischyrosmighty λίθονlithona stone ὡςhōsthe size of μύλονmulonmillstone μέγανmegana great καὶkaiand ἔβαλενebalencast [it] εἰςeisinto τὴνtēnthe θάλασσανthalassansea , λέγωνlegōnsaying : ΟὕτωςHoutōs“ With such ὁρμήματιhormēmativiolence βληθήσεταιblēthēsetaiwill be cast down , ΒαβυλὼνBabylōnof Babylon ἡhēthe μεγάληmegalēgreat πόλιςpoliscity καὶkai- οὐouvvv μὴmēvvv εὑρεθῇheurethēnever to be [seen] ἔτιetiagain .
22καὶkaiAnd φωνὴphōnē[the] sound κιθαρῳδῶνkitharōdōnof harpists καὶkaiand μουσικῶνmousikōnmusicians , καὶkai- αὐλητῶνaulētōnof flute players καὶkaiand σαλπιστῶνsalpistōntrumpeters , οὐouvvv μὴmēvvv ἀκουσθῇakousthēwill never ring out ἐνenin σοὶsoiyou ἔτιetiagain . καὶkai[Nor will] πᾶςpasany τεχνίτηςtechnitēscraftsmen πάσηςpasēsof any τέχνηςtechnēstrade οὐouvvv μὴmēvvv εὑρεθῇheurethēbe [found] ἐνenin σοὶsoiyou ἔτιetiagain , καὶkai[nor] φωνὴphōnē[the] sound μύλουmylouof a millstone οὐouvvv μὴmēvvv ἀκουσθῇakousthēbe heard ἐνenin σοὶsoiyou ἔτιetiagain .
23καὶkai- φῶςphōs[The] light λύχνουlychnouof a lamp οὐouvvv μὴmēvvv φάνῃphanēwill never shine ἐνenin σοὶsoiyou ἔτιetiagain , καὶkaiand φωνὴphōnē[the] voices νυμφίουnymphioubridegroom καὶkaiand νύμφηςnymphēsof a bride οὐouvvv μὴmēvvv ἀκουσθῇakousthēwill never call out ἐνenin σοὶsoiyou ἔτιetiagain . ὅτιhotiFor οἱhoi- ἔμποροίemporoimerchants σουsouyour ἦσανēsanwere οἱhoithe μεγιστᾶνεςmegistanesgreat ones τῆςtēsof the γῆςgēsearth , ὅτιhotibecause ἐνenby τῇtē- φαρμακείᾳpharmakeiasorcery . ” σουsouyour ἐπλανήθησανeplanēthēsanwere deceived πάνταpantaall τὰtathe ἔθνηethnēnations
24ΚαὶKaiAnd ἐνenin αὐτῇautēher αἵματαaimatablood προφητῶνprophētōnof prophets καὶkaiand ἁγίωνhagiōnsaints , εὑρέθηheurethēthere was found ΚαὶKaiAnd πάντωνpantōnof all τῶνtōnwho ἐσφαγμένωνesphagmenōnhad been slain ἐπὶepion τῆςtēsthe γῆςgēsearth .
