2λέγωνlegōnsaying αὐτοῖςautoisto them , Πορεύεθητεporeuethetego εἰςeisinto τὴνtēnthe κώμηνkōmēnvillage τὴνtēn- ἀπέναντι*apenantibefore ὑμῶνhymōnof you , καὶkaiand εὐθέως*eutheōsat once εὑρήσετεheurēseteyou will find ὄνονonona donkey δεδεμένηνdedemenēntied [there] , καὶkaiwith πῶλονpōlon[her] colt μετ’met’beside αὐτῆςautēsher . λύσαντεςlysantesUntie [them] ἀγάγετέagagete[and] bring [them] μοιmoito Me .
3καὶkai- ἐάνeanIf τιςtisanyone ὑμῖνhyminyou , εἴπῃeipēquestions τιti. . . ἐρεῖτεereitetell [him] ὅτιhotithat ὉHOthe ΚύριοςKyriosLord αὐτῶνautōnthem , χρείανchreianneeds ἔχειecheivvv εὐθέως*eutheōsat once δὲdeand ἀποστελεῖaposteleihe will send αὐτούςautousthem
4ΤοῦτοToutoThis δὲde- ὅλονholonall γέγονενgegonentook place ἵναhinato πληρωθῇplērōthēfulfill τὸtowhat ῥηθὲνrhēthenwas spoken διὰdiathrough τοῦtouthe προφήτουprophētouprophet λέγοντοςlegontos- :
5ΕἴπατεEipate“ Say τῇtēto the θυγατρὶthygatriDaughter ΣιώνSiōnof Zion , ἸδοὺIdou‘ See , ὁho- ΒασιλεύςBasileusKing σουsouyour ἔρχεταίerchetaicomes σοιsoito you , πραῢςprausgentle καὶkaiand ἐπιβεβηκὼςepibebēkōsriding ἐπὶepion ὄνονonona donkey , καὶkai- πῶλονpōlona colt , υἱὸνhuion[the] foal ὑποζυγίουhypozygiouof a donkey .’”
6ΠορευθέντεςPoreuthenteswent δὲdeSo οἱhoithe μαθηταὶmathētaidisciples καὶkaiand ποιήσαντεςpoiēsantesdid καθὼςkathōsas προσέταξενprosetaxenprescribed αὐτοῖςautoisthem . ὁho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus
7ἤγαγονēgagonThey brought τὴνtēnthe ὄνονonondonkey καὶkaiand τὸνtonthe πῶλονpōloncolt καὶkaiand ἐπέθηκανepethēkanlaid ἐπάνωepanōon αὐτῶνautōnthem . τὰta- ἱμάτιαhimatiacloaks αὐτῶνautōnthem . καὶkaiand ἐπεκάθισενepekathisen[Jesus] sat ἐπάνωepanōon αὐτῶνautōnthem .
8ὉHo- δὲde- πλεῖστοςpleistosA massive ὄχλοςochloscrowd ἔστρωσανestrōsanspread ἑαυτῶνheautōntheir τὰta- ἱμάτιαhimatiacloaks ἐνenon τῇtēthe ὁδῷhodōroad , ἄλλοιalloiothers δὲdewhile ἔκοπτονekoptoncut κλάδουςkladousbranches ἀπὸapofrom τῶνtōnthe δένδρωνdendrōntrees καὶkaiand ἐστρώννυονestrōnnyonspread [them] ἐνenon τῇtēthe ὁδῷhodōroad .
9ΟἱHoiThe δὲde- ὄχλοιochloicrowds οἱhoithat προάγοντεςproagonteswent ahead αὐτὸνautonof Him καὶkaiand οἱhoithose that ἀκολουθοῦντεςakolouthountesfollowed ἔκραζονekrazonwere shouting λέγοντεςlegontes- : ὩσαννὰHōsanna“ Hosanna τῷtōto the υἱῷhuiōSon ΔαυίδDauidof David !” ΕὐλογημένοςEulogēmenos“ Blessed is ὁhoHe ἐρχόμενοςerchomenoswho comes ἐνenin ὀνόματιonomati[the] name ΚυρίουKyriouof [the] Lord !” ὩσαννὰHōsanna“ Hosanna ἐνenin τοῖςtoisthe ὑψίστοιςhypsistoishighest !”
10ΚαὶKai- εἰσελθόντοςeiselthontoshad entered αὐτοῦautouWhen [Jesus] εἰςeis. . . ἹεροσόλυμαHierosolymaJerusalem , ἐσείσθηeseisthēwas stirred πᾶσαpasawhole ἡhēthe πόλιςpoliscity λέγουσαlegousa[and] asked , ΤίςTis“ Who ἐστινestinis οὗτοςhoutosthis ? ”
11ΟἱHoiThe δὲde- ὄχλοιochloicrowds ἔλεγονelegonreplied , ΟὗτόςHoutos“ This ἐστινestinis ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus , ὁhothe προφήτηςprophētēsprophet ὁho- ἀπὸapofrom ΝαζαρέτNazaretNazareth . τῆςtēs- ΓαλιλαίαςGalilaiasin Galilee . ”
12ΚαὶKaiThen εἰσῆλθενeisēlthenentered ὁho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus , εἰςeis. . . τὸtothe ἱερόνhierontemple [courts] τοῦtouthe ΘεοῦTheouof God καὶkaiand ἐξέβαλεexebaleHe drove out πάνταςpantasall τοὺςtouswho were πωλοῦνταςpōlountasselling καὶkaiand ἀγοράζονταςagorazontasbuying ἐνen[there] τῷtō. . . ἱερῷhierō. . . . καὶkai- τὰςtasthe τραπέζαςtrapezastables τῶνtōnof the κολλυβιστῶνkollybistōnmoney changers κατέστρεψεkatestrepseHe overturned καὶkaiand τὰςtasthe καθέδραςkathedrasseats τῶνtōnof those πωλούντωνpōlountōnselling τὰςtas- περιστεράςperisterasdoves .
13καὶkaiAnd λέγειlegeiHe declared αὐτοῖςautoisto them , ΓέγραπταιGegraptai“ It is written : ὉHo- οἶκόςoikoshouse μουmou‘ My οἶκόςoikoshouse προσευχῆςproseuchēsof prayer .’ κληθήσεταιklēthēsetaiwill be called ὑμεῖςhymeisyou δὲdeBut αὐτὸνautonit ἐποιήσατεepoiēsatehave made ΣπήλαιονSpēlaion‘ a den λῃστῶνlēstōnof robbers .’ ”
14ΚαὶKai- προσῆλθονprosēlthoncame αὐτῷautōto Him χωλοὶchōloi[the] lame καὶkaiand τυφλοὶtyphloi[The] blind ἐνenat τῷtōthe ἱερῷhierōtemple , καὶkaiand ἐθεράπευσενetherapeusenHe healed αὐτούςautousthem .
15ἰδόντεςidonteswhen they saw δὲdeBut οἱhoithe ἀρχιερεῖςarchiereischief priests καὶkaiand οἱhoi- γραμματεῖςgrammateisscribes τὰtathe θαυμάσιαthaumasiawonders ἃha- ἐποίησεepoiesehas done καὶkaiand τοὺςtousthe παῖδαςpaidaschildren κράζονταςkrazontasshouting ἐνenin τῷtōthe ἱερῷhierōtemple [courts] , καὶkaivvv λέγονταςlegontasvvv ὩσαννὰHōsanna“ Hosanna τῷtōto the υἱῷhuiōSon ΔαυίδDauidof David ! ” ἠγανάκτησανēganaktēsanwere indignant
16καὶkaiand εἶπονeiponthey said αὐτῷautō- , ἈκούειςAkoueis“ Do you hear τίtiwhat οὗτοιhoutoithese [children] λέγουσινlegousinare saying ? ” ὉHo- δὲde- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus λέγειlegeianswered αὐτοῖςautois- . ΝαίNai“ Yes , ” οὐδέποτεoudepotevvv ἀνέγνωτεanegnōte“ Have you never read : ὅτιhoti- ἘκEk‘ From στόματοςstomatos[the] mouths νηπίωνnēpiōnof children καὶkaiand θηλαζόντωνthēlazontōninfants ΚατηρτίσωKatērtisōYou have ordained αἶνονainonpraise ’ ?”
17ΚαὶKaiThen καταλιπὼνkatalipōnHe left αὐτοὺςautousthem ἐξῆλθενexēlthen[and] went ἔξωexōout of τῆςtēsthe πόλεωςpoleōscity εἰςeisto ΒηθανίανBēthanianBethany , καὶkai- ηὐλίσθηēulisthēwhere He spent the night ἐκεῖekei. . . .
18ΠρωΐαςPrōiasmorning δὲde- ἐπανάγων*epanagōnas [Jesus] was returning εἰςeisto τὴνtēnthe πόλινpolincity , ἐπείνασε·epeinasewere hungry ?
19καὶkai- ἰδὼνidōnSeeing συκῆνsykēnfig tree μίανmiana ἐπὶepiby τῆςtēsthe ὁδοῦhodouroad , ἦλθενēlthenHe went up ἐπ’ep’to αὐτήνautēnit καὶkaibut οὐδὲνoudennothing εὗρενheurenfound ἐνenon αὐτῇautēit εἰeiexcept μὴmē. . . φύλλαphyllaleaves . μόνονmonon. . . καὶkaibut λέγειlegeiHe said αὐτῇautē- . μηκέτιmēketiagain ! ” ἐκek. . . σοῦsou. . . καρπὸςkarposfruit γένηταιgenētaiMay you never bear εἰςeis. . . τὸνton. . . αἰῶναaiōna. . . καὶkai- ἐξηράνθηexēranthēwithered . παραχρῆμαparachrēmaimmediately ἡhēthe συκῆsykētree
20ΚαὶKaiWhen ἰδόντεςidontessaw [this] , οἱhoithe μαθηταὶmathētaidisciples ἐθαύμασανethaumasanthey marveled λέγοντεςlegontes[and] asked , ΠῶςPōs“ How {did} παραχρῆμαparachrēmaso quickly ? ” ἐξηράνθηexēranthēwither ἡhēthe συκῆsykēfig tree
21ἈποκριθεὶςApokritheisreplied δὲde- ὁho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἶπενeipen. . . αὐτοῖςautois. . . , ἈμὴνAmēn“ Truly λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , ” ἐὰνean“ if ἔχητεechēteyou have πίστινpistinfaith καὶkaiand μὴmē{do} not διακριθῆτεdiakrithētedoubt , οὐounot μόνονmonononly τὸtowhat was done τῆςtēsto the συκῆςsykēsfig tree , ποιήσετεpoiēsetewill you do ἀλλὰallabut κἂνkaneven if τῷtō- ὄρειoreimountain , τούτῳtoutōto this εἴπητεeipēteyou say ἌρθητιArthēti‘ Be lifted up καὶkaiand βλήθητιblēthētithrown εἰςeisinto τὴνtēnthe θάλασσανthalassansea , ’ γενήσεταιgenēsetaiit will happen .
22καὶkai- πάνταpantawhatever ὅσαhosa. . . ἐὰνean“ if αἰτήσητεaitēsēteyou ask for ἐνenin τῇtē- προσευχῇproseuchēprayer . ” πιστεύοντεςpisteuontesIf you believe , λήψεσθε.lepsestheyou will receive
23καὶkai- ἘλθόντιElthonti[Jesus] had entered αὐτῷautōto Him . εἰςeisto τὸtothe ἱερὸνhierontemple [courts] προσῆλθονprosēlthoncame up αὐτῷautōto Him . διδάσκοντιdidaskonti[and] began to teach , οἱhoithe ἀρχιερεῖςarchiereischief priests καὶkaiand οἱhoi- πρεσβύτεροιpresbyteroielders τοῦtouof the λαοῦlaoupeople λέγοντεςlegontesthey asked . ἘνEn“ By ποίᾳpoiawhat ἐξουσίᾳexousiaauthority ταῦταtautathese things ? ” ποιεῖςpoieisare You doing καὶkai“ And τίςtiswho σοιsoiYou ἔδωκενedōkengave τὴνtēn- ἐξουσίανexousianauthority ? ” ταύτηνtautēnthis
24ἈποκριθεὶςApokritheisreplied δὲde- ὁho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἶπενeipen- αὐτοῖςautois- , ἘρωτήσωErōtēsōI will also ask ὑμᾶςhymasyou κἀγὼkagō“ vvv λόγονlogonquestion , ” ἕναhenaone ὃνhon“ - ἐὰνean{and} if εἴπητέeipēteyou answer μοιmoiMe , κἀγὼkagōI ὑμῖνhyminyou ἐρῶerōwill tell ἐνenby ποίᾳpoiawhat ἐξουσίᾳexousiaauthority ταῦταtautathese things . ποιῶpoiōI am doing
25τὸtoof βάπτισμαbaptismabaptism ? τὸto- ἸωάννουIōannouJohn’s πόθενpothenWhat was the source ἦνēn. . . ἐξex[Was it] from οὐρανοῦouranouheaven ἢēor ἐξexfrom ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnmen ? ” ΟἱHoi- δὲde- διελογίζοντοdielogizontoThey deliberated παρ’par’from ἑαυτοῖςheautoisthemselves λέγοντεςlegontes[and] said , ἘὰνEan“ If εἴπωμενeipōmenwe say , ἘξEx‘ From οὐρανοῦouranouheaven , ’ ἐρεῖereiHe will ask ἡμῖνhēmin- , διατίdiatiwhy οὖνounthen οὐκoukvvv ἐπιστεύσατεepisteusatedid you not believe αὐτῷautōhim ? ’
26ἐὰνeanif δὲdeBut εἴπωμενeipōmenwe say , ἘξEx‘ From ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnmen , ’ φοβούμεθαphoboumethawe are afraid τὸνtonof the ὄχλονochlonpeople , πάντεςpantesthey all γὰρgarfor ἜχουσιEchousi‘ They have τὸνtonof the ἸωάννηνIōannēnJohn ὡςhōsas προφήτηνprophētēna prophet . ”
27καὶkaiSo ἀποκριθέντεςapokrithentesthey answered τῷtō- ἸησοῦIēsou- εἶπονeiponthey said οὐκoukvvv οἴδαμενoidamen“ We do not know . ” ἜφηEphēreplied αὐτοῖςautois- , καὶkaiAnd αὐτόςautos[Jesus] ΟὐδὲOude“ Neither ἐγὼegō{will} I λέγωlegōtell ὑμῖνhyminyou ἐνenby ποίᾳpoiawhat ἐξουσίᾳexousiaauthority ταῦταtautathese things . ποιῶpoiōI am doing
28ΤίTiwhat δὲdeBut ὑμῖνhymin[do] you δοκεῖdokeithink ? ἄνθρωποςanthrōpos[There was] a man ΤίςTisWhich εἶχεeikhewho had τέκναteknasons . δύοdyotwo [καὶ]kai- προσελθὼνproselthōnHe went τῷtōto the πρώτῳprōtōfirst [one] εἶπενeipen[and] said , ΤέκνονTeknon‘ Son , ὕπαγεhypagego σήμερονsēmerontoday ἐργάζουergazou[and] work ἐνenin τῷtōthe ἀμπελῶνιampelōnivineyard . ’ μουmoumy
29ὁhothe δὲdeBut when ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheishe said εἶπενeipen- . ‹ΟὐOuvvv θέλωthelō‘ I will not , ’ ὕστερονhysteronlater δὲdeBut μεταμεληθεὶς›metamelētheishe changed his mind ἀπέλθῃapelthēto depart
30καὶ*kaiBut ΠροσελθὼνProselthōn[the man] went τῷtōto the δευτέρῳdeuterōsecond [son] εἶπενeipen[and] told [him] ὡσαύτωςhōsautōsthe same thing . ὉHo- δὲde- ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheishe said εἶπενeipen- . Ἐγώ*Egō‘ I [will] , κύριε*kyriesir , ’ καὶ*kaiBut οὐκ*oukvvv ἀπέλθῃapelthēto depart
31ΤίςTisWhich ἐκekof τῶνtōnthe δύοdyotwo ἐποίησεepoiesehas done τὸtothe θέλημαthelēmawill τοῦtouof [his] πατρόςpatrosfather ? ” ΛέγουσινLegousinthey answered . αὐτῷautōhim , ὁho- πρῶτος*prōtosfirst , ” ΛέγειLegeisaid αὐτοῖςautoisto them , ὁho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἈμὴνAmēn“ Truly λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , ὅτιhoti- οἱhoithe τελῶναιtelōnaitax collectors καὶkaiand αἱhai- πόρναιpornaiprostitutes προάγουσινproagousinare entering ὑμᾶςhymasbefore you . εἰςeis. . . τὴνtēnthe βασιλείανbasileiankingdom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God
32ἔλθῃelthēreturns , γὰρgarFor πρὸςprosto ὑμᾶςhymasyou ἸωάννηςIōannēsJohn ἐνenin ὁδῷhodōway δικαιοσύνηςdikaiosynēsa righteous καὶkaiand οὐκoukvvv ἐπιστεύσατεepisteusateyou did not believe αὐτῷautōhim , οἱhoithe δὲdebut τελῶναιtelōnaitax collectors καὶkaiand αἱhai- πόρναιpornaiprostitutes ἐπίστευσανepisteusan[did] αὐτῷautō. . . . ὑμεῖςhymeisyou δὲdeAnd ἰδόντεςidontesyou saw this , οὐδὲoude[even] μετεμελήθητεmetemelēthētedid not repent ὕστερονhysteronafter τοῦtou- πιστεῦσαιpisteusai[and] believe αὐτῷautōhim .
33ἌλληνAllēnanother παραβολὴνparabolēnparable : ἀκούσατεakousateListen to ἌνθρωποςAnthrōposa landowner ΤίςTisWhich ἐνenin οἰκοδεσπότηςoikodespotēs. . . ὅστιςhostiswho ἐφύτευσενephyteusenplanted ἀμπελῶναampelōnaa vineyard . καὶkai- φραγμὸνphragmona wall αὐτῷautōaround it , περιέθηκεperiethekeHe put καὶkai- ὤρυξενōryxendug ἐνenin αὐτῷautōit , ληνὸνlēnona winepress καὶkai- ᾠκοδόμησενōkodomēsenbuilt πύργονpyrgona tower . καὶkaiThen ἐξέδοτοexedotorented αὐτὸνauton. . . γεωργοῖςgeōrgoisto [some] tenants καὶkaiand ἀπεδήμησενapedēmēsenwent away on a journey .
34ὍτεHoteWhen δὲde- ἤγγισενēngisendrew near , ὁhothe καιρὸςkairosharvest time τῶνtōn. . . καρπῶνkarpōn. . . ἀπέστειλεapesteileHe sent them out τοὺςtous- δούλουςdoulousservants αὐτοῦautouhis πρὸςprosto τοὺςtousthe γεωργοὺςgeōrgoustenants λαβεῖνlabeinto collect τοὺςtous- καρποὺςkarpous[share of the] fruit . αὐτοῦautouhis
35καὶkaiBut λαβόντεςlabontesseized οἱhoithe γεωργοὶgeōrgoitenants τοὺςtous- δούλουςdoulousservants . αὐτοῦautouhis ὃνhonone , μὲνmen- ἔδειρανedeiranThey beat ὃνhonone , δὲde- ἀπέκτεινανapekteinankilled ὃνhon[another] , δὲdeand ἐλιθοβόλησανelithobolēsanstoned
36ΠάλινPalinAgain , ἀπέστειλενapesteilenhe sent ἄλλουςallousother δούλουςdoulousservants , πλείοναςpleionasmore τῶνtōnthan the πρώτωνprōtōnfirst [group] . καὶkaiBut ἐποίησανepoiēsan[the tenants] did αὐτοῖςautoisto them . ὡσαύτωςhōsautōsthe same
37ὝστερονHysteronFinally , δὲdevvv ἀπέστειλεapesteileHe sent them out πρὸςprosto αὐτοὺςautousthem . τὸνton- υἱόνhuionson , ’ αὐτοῦautouhis λέγωνlegōnhe said . ἘντραπήσονταιEntrapēsontai‘ They will respect τὸνton- υἱόνhuionson , ’ μουmoumy
38ΟἱHoithe δὲdeBut when γεωργοὶgeōrgoitenants ἰδόντεςidontessaw τὸνtonthe υἱὸνhuionson , εἶπονeiponthey said ἐνento ἑαυτοῖςheautoisone another , ΟὗτόςHoutos‘ This ἐστινestinis ὁhothe κληρονόμοςklēronomosheir . δεῦτεdeuteCome , ἀποκτείνωμενapokteinōmenlet us kill αὐτὸνautonhim καὶkaiand κατάσχωμενkataskhomentake τὴνtēn- κληρονομίανklēronomianinheritance . ’ αὐτοῦautouhis
39καὶkaiand λαβόντεςlabontesthey seized αὐτὸνautonhim ἐξέβαλονexebalon[and] threw [him] ἔξωexōout of τοῦtouthe ἀμπελῶνοςampelōnosvineyard καὶkaiand ἀπέκτεινανapekteinankilled [him] .
40ὍτανHotanwhen οὖνounTherefore , ἔλθῃelthēreturns , ὁhothe κύριοςkyriosowner τοῦtouof the ἀμπελῶνοςampelōnosvineyard τίtiwhat ποιήσειpoiēseiwill he do τοῖςtois- γεωργοῖςgeōrgoistenants ? ” ἐκείνοιςekeinoisto those
41ΛέγουσινLegousinthey replied αὐτῷautō- , ΚακοὺςKakouswretches κακῶςkakōs{to a} wretched {end} , ” ἀπολέσειapolesei“ He will bring αὐτούςautousthose καὶkai“ and τὸνtonthe ἀμπελῶναampelōnavineyard ἐκδώσεταιekdōsetaiwill rent out ἄλλοιςalloisto other γεωργοῖςgeōrgoistenants οἵτινεςhoitineswho ἀποδώσουσινapodōsousinwill give αὐτῷautōhim τοὺςtous[his] καρποὺςkarpousshare of the fruit ἐνenat τοῖςtois- καιροῖςkairoisharvest time αὐτῶνautōn. . . . ”
42ΛέγειLegeisaid αὐτοῖςautoisto them , ὁho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ΟὐδέποτεOudepote“ vvv ἀνέγνωτεanegnōteHave you never read ἐνenin ταῖςtaisthe γραφαῖςgraphaisScriptures : ΛίθονLithon‘ [The] stone ὃνhon- ἀπεδοκίμασανapedokimasanrejected οἱhoithe οἰκοδομοῦντεςoikodomountesbuilders ΟὗτοςHoutos- ἐγενήθηegenēthēhas become εἰςeisthe κεφαλὴνkephalēnvvv γωνίαςgōniascornerstone .
