2ἐπεὶepei[If it could] οὐκoukvvv ἂνan. . . , ἐπαύσαντοepausantowould not the offerings have ceased προσφερόμεναιprospheromenai. . . ? διὰdiaFor τὸto- μηδεμίανmēdemianno ἔχεινechein[and] would ἔτιetilonger συνείδησινsyneidēsinhave felt the guilt ἁμαρτιῶνhamartiōnof [their] sins . τοὺςtousthe λατρεύονταςlatreuontasworshipers ἅπαξhapaxonce [for all] , κεκαθαρμένους;kekatharmenouswould have been cleansed

3Ἀλλ’All’Instead , ἐνen- αὐταῖςautaisthose [sacrifices] ἀνάμνησιςanamnēsisreminder ἁμαρτιῶνhamartiōnof sins , κατ’kat’[are] an annual ἐνιαυτόνeniauton. . .

4ἀδύνατονadynaton[it is] impossible γὰρgarbecause αἷμαhaima[for the] blood ταύρωνtaurōnof bulls καὶkaiand τράγωνtragōngoats ἀφαιρεῖνaphaireinto take away ἁμαρτίαςhamartiassins .

5ΔιὸDioTherefore , εἰσερχόμενοςeiserchomenoswhen [Christ] came εἰςeisinto τὸνtonthe κόσμονkosmonworld , λέγειlegeiHe said : ΘυσίανThysian“ Sacrifice καὶkaiand προσφορὰνprosphoranoffering οὐκoukvvv ἠθέλησαςēthelēsasYou did not desire , ΣῶμαSōmaa body δὲdebut κατηρτίσωkatērtisōYou prepared μοιmoifor Me .

6ὉλοκαυτώματαHolokautōmataIn burnt offerings καὶkaiand περὶperivvv ἁμαρτίαςhamartiassin [offerings] ΟὐκOukvvv εὐδόκησαςeudokēsasYou took no delight .

7ΤότεToteThen εἶπονeiponI said , ἸδοὺIdou‘ Here I am , ἥκωhēkōI have come ἘνEnin κεφαλίδιkephalidivvv βιβλίουbibliou[the] scroll : γέγραπταιgegraptaiit is written περὶperiabout ἐμοῦemouMe ΤοῦTou- ποιῆσαιpoiēsaito do ὁho- ΘεόςTheosO God .’” τὸto- θέλημάthelēmawill , σουsouYour

8ἈνώτερονAnōteron[ In the passage ] above λέγωνlegōnHe says ὅτιhoti- , ΘυσίανThysian“ Sacrifice καὶkaiand προσφορὰνprosphoranoffering καὶkaiand ὉλοκαυτώματαHolokautōmataIn burnt offerings καὶkaiand περὶperivvv ἁμαρτίαςhamartiassin [offerings] ΟὐκOukvvv ἠθέλησαςēthelēsasYou did not desire , οὐδὲoudenor εὐδόκησαςeudokēsasdid You delight in [them] ” αἵτινεςhaitines( [although] κατὰkataaccording to τὸνtonthe νόμονnomon[the] law ). προσφέρονταιprospherontaithey are offered

9τότεtoteThen εἴρηκενeirēkenHe adds , ἸδοὺIdou“ Here I am , ἥκωhēkōI have come τοῦtou- ποιῆσαιpoiēsaito do ᾧhōthat ΘεόςTheosO God .’” τὸto- θέλημάthelēmawill , σουsouYour ἀναιρεῖanaireiHe takes away τὸtothe πρῶτονprōtonfirst ἵναhinato τὸtothe δεύτερονdeuteronsecond . στήσῃstēsēestablish

10ἐνen[And] by ᾧhōthat θελήματιthelēmatiwill , ἡγιασμένοιhēgiasmenoihave been sanctified ἐσμὲνesmenwe διὰdiathrough τῆςtēsthe προσφορᾶςprosphorassacrifice τοῦtouof the σώματοςsōmatosbody ἸησοῦIēsouof Jesus ΧριστοῦChristouChrist ἐφάπαξephapaxonce for all .

11ΚαὶKai- πᾶςpasevery μὲνmen- ἱερεὺςhiereuspriest ἕστηκεestekestands καθ’kath’vvv ἡμέρανhēmeranDay after day λειτουργῶνleitourgōnto minister καὶkaiand τὰςtasthe αὐτὰςautassame πολλάκιςpollakisagain and again προσφέρωνprospherōnto offer θυσίαςthysiassacrifices , αἵτινεςhaitineswhich οὐδέποτεoudepotenever δύνανταιdynantaican περιελεῖνperieleintake away ἁμαρτίαςhamartiassins .

12αὐτὸςautoshe δὲdeBut [when] μίανmianone ὑπὲρhyperfor ἁμαρτιῶνhamartiōnsins , προσενέγκαςprosenenkashad offered θυσίανthysiansacrifice εἰςeisvvv τὸtovvv διηνεκὲςdiēnekesfor all time ἐκάθισενekathisenHe sat down ἐνenat δεξιᾷdexia[the] right hand τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God .

13τὸtovvv λοιπὸνloiponSince that time , ἐκδεχόμενοςekdechomenosHe waits ἕωςheōsfor τεθῶσινtethōsinto be made οἱhoi- ἐχθροὶechthroienemies αὐτοῦautouHis ὑποπόδιονhypopodiona footstool τῶνtōnfor ποδῶνpodōnfeet , αὐτοῦautouHis

14μιᾷmiaby a single γὰρgarbecause προσφορᾷprosphoraoffering τετελείωκενteteleiōkenHe has made perfect εἰςeisfor τὸto- διηνεκὲςdiēnekesall time τοὺςtousthose who ἁγιαζομένουςhagiazomenousare being sanctified .

15ΜαρτυρεῖMartyreitestifies δὲde- ἡμῖνhēminto us {about this} . καὶkaialso τὸto- ΠνεῦμαPneumaSpirit τὸto- ἍγιονHagionHoly μετὰmeta[First] γὰρgar- τὸto- προειρηκέναι,proeirekenaiHe says :

16ΑὕτηHautē“ This [is] ἡhēthe διαθήκηdiathēkēcovenant ἣνhēn- διαθήσομαιdiathēsomaiI will make πρὸςproswith αὐτοὺςautousthem μετὰmetaafter τὰςtas- ἡμέραςhēmerasdays , ἐκείναςekeinasthose λέγειlegeideclares ΚύριοςKyrios[the] Lord . διδοὺςdidousI will put νόμουςnomouslaws μουmouMy ἐπὶepiin καρδίαςkardiashearts αὐτῶνautōntheir καὶkaiand ἐπὶepion ΤῶνTōn- διανοιῶνdianoiōnthoughts αὐτῶνautōn“ Their ἐπιγράψωepigrapsōinscribe αὐτούςautousthem

17καὶkaiand ΤῶνTōn- ἁμαρτιῶνhamartiōnsins αὐτῶνautōn- καὶkaiand τῶνtōn- ἀνομιῶνanomiōnlawless acts αὐτῶνautōn- οὐouno μὴmē. . . μνησθῶmnēsthōwill remember ἔτιetimore .”

18ὍπουHopouwhere δὲdeAnd ἄφεσιςaphesishave been forgiven , τούτωνtoutōnthese οὐκέτιouketi[is] no longer [ needed ] . προσφορὰprosphoraan offering περὶperifor ἁμαρτίαςhamartiassin

19ἜχοντεςEchontes[since] we have οὖνounTherefore , ἀδελφοίadelphoibrothers , παρρησίανparrēsianconfidence εἰςeisto τὴνtēn- εἴσοδονeisodonenter τῶνtōnthe ἁγίωνhagiōn[Most] Holy Place ἐνenby τῷtōthe αἵματιhaimatiblood τοῦtouthe ἸησοῦIēsouof Jesus ,

20ἐνenby ἐνεκαίνισενenekainisenopened ἡμῖνhēminfor us ὁδὸνhodonway πρόσφατονprosphatonby [the] new καὶkaiand ζῶσανzōsanliving διὰdiathrough τοῦtouthe καταπετάσματοςkatapetasmatoscurtain τοῦτ’tout’- ἐστίestiI have τῆςtēs- σαρκὸςsarkosbody , αὐτοῦautouof His

21καὶkaiand [since we have] ἱερέαhiereapriest μέγανmegana great ἐπὶepiover τὸνtonthe οἶκονoikonhouse τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God ,

22προσερχώμεθαproserchōmethalet us draw near μετὰmetawith ἀληθινῆςalēthinēsa sincere καρδίαςkardiasheart ἐνenin πληροφορίᾳplērophoriafull assurance πίστεωςpisteōsof faith , ἐρραντισμένοιerrantismenoisprinkled to cleanse us τὰςtas{having} our καρδίαςkardiashearts ἀπὸapofrom συνειδήσεωςsyneidēseōsconscience πονηρᾶςponērasa guilty

23καὶkaiand λελουσμένοιlelousmenoiwashed τὸto[our] σῶμαsōmabodies ὕδατιhydatiwater . καθαρῷkatharōwith pure ΚατέχωμενKatechōmenLet us hold τὴνtēnto the ὁμολογίανhomologianwe profess , τῆςtēs- ἐλπίδοςelpidoshope ἀκλινῆaklinēresolutely πιστὸςpistos[is] faithful . γὰρgarfor ὁhoHe who ἐπαγγειλάμενοςepangeilamenospromised

24καὶkaiAnd κατανοῶμενkatanoōmenlet us consider ἀλλήλουςallēlousone another {on} εἰςeishow παροξυσμὸνparoxysmonto spur ἀγάπηςagapēsto love καὶkaiand καλῶνkalōngood ἔργωνergōndeeds .

25μὴmēvvv ἐγκαταλείποντεςenkataleipontesLet us not neglect τὴνtēn- ἐπισυναγωγὴνepisynagōgēnmeeting together ἑαυτῶνheautōn. . . , καθὼςkathōsas ἔθοςethos[have made a] habit , τισίνtisinsome ἀλλὰallabut παρακαλοῦντεςparakalounteslet us encourage [one another] , καὶkaiand τοσούτῳtosoutōall μᾶλλονmallon[the] more ὅσῳhosōas βλέπετεblepeteyou see ἐγγίζουσανengizousanapproaching . τὴνtēnthe ἡμέρανhēmeranDay

26ἙκουσίωςHekousiōsdeliberately γὰρgar- ἁμαρτανόντωνhamartanontōngo on sinning ἡμῶνhēmōn[If] we μετὰmetaafter τὸto- λαβεῖνlabeinwe have received τὴνtēnthe ἐπίγνωσινepignōsinknowledge τῆςtēsof the ἀληθείαςalētheiastruth , οὐκέτιouketino further περὶperifor ἁμαρτιῶνhamartiōnsins ἀπολείπεταιapoleipetairemains , θυσίαthysiasacrifice

27φοβερὰphoberafearful δέdebut only τιςtisa ἐκδοχὴekdochēexpectation κρίσεωςkriseōsof judgment καὶkaiand πυρὸςpyrosfire ζῆλοςzēlosof raging ἐσθίεινesthieinconsume μέλλοντοςmellontosthat will τοὺςtous[all] ὑπεναντίουςhypenantiousadversaries .

28ἀθετήσαςathetēsasrejected τιςtisAnyone who νόμονnomon[the] law ΜωϋσέωςMōuseōsof Moses χωρὶςchōriswithout οἰκτιρμῶνoiktirmōnmercy ἐπὶepion [the testimony of] δυσὶνdysintwo ἢēor τρισὶνtrisinthree μάρτυσινmartysinwitnesses . ἀποθνήσκειapothnēskeidied

29πόσῳposōHow much δοκεῖτεdokeitedo you think χείρονοςcheironosmore severely ἀξιωθήσεταιaxiōthēsetaideserves τιμωρίαςtimōriasto be punished ὁhoone τὸνtonthe ΥἱὸνHuionSon τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God , καταπατήσαςkatapatēsas[who] has trampled on καὶkai- τὸtothe αἷμαhaimablood τῆςtēsof the διαθήκηςdiathēkēscovenant κοινὸνkoinonprofaned ἡγησάμενοςhēgēsamenosvvv ἐνenvvv ᾧhōthat ἡγιάσθηhēgiasthēsanctified him , καὶkaiand τὸtothe ΠνεῦμαPneumaSpirit τῆςtēs- χάριτοςcharitosof grace ? ἐνυβρίσαςenybrisasinsulted

30ΟἴδαμενOidamenwe know γὰρgarFor τὸνtonHim who εἰπόνταeipontasaid , ἘμοὶEmoiMine ; ἐκδίκησιςekdikēsis“ Vengeance [is] ἐγὼegōI ἀνταποδώσωantapodōsōwill repay ,” λέγειlegeideclares ΚύριοςKyrios[the] Lord . καὶkaiand πάλινpalinagain , ΚύριοςKyrios“ [The] Lord ΚρινεῖKrineiwill judge τὸνton- λαὸνlaonpeople .” αὐτοῦautouHis

31φοβερὸνphoberon[It is] a fearful thing τὸto- ἐμπεσεῖνempeseinto fall εἰςeisinto χεῖραςcheiras[the] hands ΘεοῦTheouGod . ζῶντοςzōntosof [the] living

32ἈναμιμνῄσκεσθεAnamimnēskestheRemember δὲde- τὰςtasthe πρότερονproteronearly ἡμέραςhēmerasdays ἐνenIn αἷςhais[those days] , φωτισθέντεςphōtisthentesthat you were in the light . πολλὴνpollēna great ἄθλησινathlēsinconflict ὑπεμείνατεhypemeinateyou endured παθημάτωνpathēmatōnin the face of suffering .

33τοῦτοtoutoSometimes μὲνmen. . . ὀνειδισμοῖςoneidismoisto ridicule τεte- καὶkaiand θλίψεσιthlipsesipersecution ; θεατριζόμενοιtheatrizomenoiyou were publicly exposed τοῦτοtoutoSometimes δὲde- κοινωνοὶkoinōnoipartners τῶνtōnwith those who [were] οὕτωςhoutōsso ἀναστρεφομένωνanastrephomenōntreated . γενηθέντεςgenēthentesyou were

34καὶkaiand γὰρgar- τοῖςtoiswith those δεσμοῖςdesmoischains . μουmouMy συνεπαθήσατεsynepathēsateYou sympathized καὶkai- τὴνtēnthe ἁρπαγὴνharpagēnconfiscation τῶνtōnof ὑπαρχόντωνhyparchontōnproperty , ὑμῶνhymōnyour μετὰmetavvv χαρᾶςcharasjoyfully προσεδέξασθεprosedexastheaccepted γινώσκοντεςginōskontesknowing that ἔχεινecheinhad ἐνenIn ἑαυτοῖςheautoisthemselves , κρείττονα*kreittonaa better ὕπαρξινhyparxinpossession . ἐνenIn οὐρανοῖςouranoisheaven , καὶkaiand μένουσανmenousanpermanent

35ΜὴMē{do} not ἀποβάλητεapobalētethrow away οὖνounSo τὴνtēn- παρρησίανparrēsianconfidence ; ὑμῶνhymōnyour ἥτιςhētis[it] ἔχειecheiholds μισθαποδοσίανmisthapodosianreward . μεγάληνmegalēna great

36ὑπομονῆςhypomonēsto persevere , γὰρgar- ἔχετεecheteYou χρείανchreianneed ἵναhinaso that τὸtothe θέλημαthelēmawill τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God , ποιήσαντεςpoiēsantesafter you have done κομίσησθεkomisēstheyou will receive τὴνtēnwhat ἐπαγγελίανepangelianHe has promised .

37ἔτιetivvv γὰρgarFor , ΜικρὸνMikronlittle ὅσονhosonwhile , ὁhoHe who ἐρχόμενοςerchomenosis coming ἥξειhēxeiwill come καὶkaiand οὐouvvv χρονιεῖ.khronieiwill not delay .

38ὁhoHe who δὲdeBut δίκαιόςdikaiosrighteous ἐκekby πίστεωςpisteōsfaith ; ζήσεταιzēsetaiwill live καὶkaiand ἐὰνeanif ὑποστείληταιhyposteilētaihe shrinks back , οὐκouk{will take} no εὐδοκεῖeudokeipleasure ἡhē. . . ψυχήpsychē. . . μουmouI ἐνenin αὐτῷautōhim . ”

39ἩμεῖςHēmeiswe δὲdeBut οὐκouknot ἐσμὲνesmenare ὑποστολῆςhypostolēsof [those who] shrink back εἰςeis[and] ἀπώλειανapōleianare destroyed , ἀλλὰallabut πίστεωςpisteōsof [those who have] faith εἰςeis[and] περιποίησινperipoiēsinpreserve ψυχῆςpsychēs[their] souls .
