1ΔιὸDiotherefore , ἀναπολόγητοςanapologētoshave no excuse , ΕἰEiif ὁho- ἄνθρωπεanthrōpeman , πᾶςpaswho ὁho- κρίνωνkrinōnpass judgment [on another] . ἐνenon ᾧhōwhatever grounds γὰρgarFor κρίνειςkrineisyou judge τὸνtonthe ἕτερονheteronother , σεαυτὸνseautonyourself , κατακρίνειςkatakrineisyou are condemning τὰtathe γὰρgarbecause αὐτὰautasame things . πράσσειςprasseisdo ὁho[you who] κρίνωνkrinōnpass judgment
2οἴδαμενoidamenwe know δὲdeAnd ὅτιhotithat τὸto- κρίμαkrimajudgment τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouGod’s ἐστίestiI have κατὰkatabased on ἀλήθειανalētheiantruth . ἐπὶepiagainst τοὺςtousthose who τὰta- τοιαῦταtoiautasuch things πράσσονταςprassontasdo
3λογίζῃlogizēdo you think δὲde[So when] τοῦτοtouto- ὦōO ἄνθρωπεanthrōpeman , ὦōO κρίνωνkrinōnpass judgment on τοὺςtous[others] , τὰta. . . τοιαῦταtoiautathe same things πράσσονταςprassontas. . . , καὶkaiyet ποιῶνpoiōndo αὐτάauta- ὅτιhoti- σὺsyyou ἐκφεύξῃekpheuxēwill escape τὸto- κρίμαkrimajudgment ? τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouGod’s
4ἢēOr τοῦtouthe πλούτουploutouriches τῆςtēsof χρηστότητοςchrēstotētoskindness , αὐτοῦautouHis καὶkai- τῆςtēs- ἀνοχῆςanochēstolerance , καὶkaiand τῆςtēs- μακροθυμίαςmakrothymiaspatience , καταφρονεῖςkataphroneisdo you disregard ἀγνοῶνagnoōnnot realizing ὅτιhotithat τὸto- χρηστὸνchrēstonkindness τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouGod’s εἰςeisto μετάνοιάνmetanoianrepentance ? σεseyou ἄγειageileads
5ΚατὰKatabecause of δὲdeBut τὴνtēn- σκληρότητάsklērotētahard σουsouyour καὶkaiand ἀμετανόητονametanoētonunrepentant καρδίανkardianheart , θησαυρίζειςthēsaurizeisyou are storing up σεαυτῷseautōagainst yourself ὀργὴνorgēnwrath ἐνenfor ἡμέρᾳhēmera[the] day ὀργῆςorgēsof wrath , καὶkai[when] ἀποκαλύψεωςapokalypseōswill be revealed . καὶkai[when] δικαιοκρισίαςdikaiokrisiasrighteous judgment τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouGod’s
6ὃςhos[God] ἈποδώσειApodōsei“ will repay ἑκάστῳhekastōeach one κατὰkataaccording to τὰta- ἔργαergadeeds .” αὐτοῦautouhis
7τοῖςtoisTo those who μὲνmen- καθ’kath’by ὑπομονὴνhypomonēnperseverance ἔργουergouin doing ἀγαθοῦagathougood δόξανdoxanglory , καὶkai- τιμὴνtimēnhonor , καὶkaiand ἀφθαρσίανaphtharsianimmortality , ζητοῦσιzetousiis looking for ζωὴνzōēnlife . αἰώνιονaiōnion[He will give] eternal
8τοῖςtoisfor those who δὲdeBut ἐξexvvv ἐριθείαςeritheias[are] self-seeking καὶkaiand ἀπειθοῦσιapeithousiwho reject μὲνmen- τῇtēthe ἀληθείᾳalētheiatruth πειθομένοιςpeithomenoisfollow δὲdeand τῇtē- ἀδικίᾳadikiawickedness , θυμόςthymosanger . καὶkaiand ὀργὴorgē[there will be] wrath
9θλῖψιςthlipsis[There will be] trouble καὶkaiand στενοχωρίαstenochōriadistress ἐπὶepifor πᾶσανpasanevery ψυχὴνpsychēnbeing ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouhuman τοῦtouwho κατεργαζομένουkatergazomenoudoes τὸto- κακόνkakonevil , ἸουδαίουIoudaioufor the Jew , τεte- πρῶτονprōtonfirst καὶkaithen ἝλληνοςHellēnosfor the Greek ;
10δόξαdoxaglory , δὲdebut καὶkai- τιμὴtimēhonor , καὶkaiand εἰρήνηeirēnēpeace παντὶpantifor everyone τῷtōwho ἐργαζομένῳergazomenōdoes τὸto- ἀγαθόνagathongood , ἸουδαίῳIoudaiōfirst τεte- πρῶτονprōtonfor the Jew , καὶkaithen ἝλληνιHellēnifor the Greek .
12ὍσοιHosoiAll who γὰρgar- ἀνόμωςanomōsapart from the law ἥμαρτονhēmartonsin ἀνόμωςanomōsapart from the law καὶkaivvv ἀπολοῦνταιapolountaiwill also perish καὶkaivvv ὍσοιHosoiAll who ἐνenunder νόμῳnomō[the] law ἥμαρτονhēmartonsin διὰdiaby νόμουnomou[the] law . κριθήσονταιkrithēsontaiwill be judged
13οὐounot γὰρgarFor [it is] οἱhoithe ἀκροαταὶakroataihearers τοῦtouthe νόμουnomoulaw [requires] , δίκαιοιdikaioi[who are] righteous παρὰparabefore τῷtō- ΘεῷTheōGod , ἀλλ’all’but [it is] οἱhoithe ποιηταὶpoiētaidoers τοῦtouthe νόμουnomoulaw [requires] , δικαιωθήσονταιdikaiōthēsontai[who] will be declared righteous .
14ὍτανHotanwhen γὰρgarIndeed , ἔθνηethnēGentiles , τὰtawho μὴmēvvv νόμονnomon[the] law , ἔχονταechontado not have φύσειphyseiby nature τὰtawhat τοῦtouthe νόμουnomoulaw [requires] , ποιῇpoiēdoes , οὗτοιhoutoi[even though] they νόμονnomon[the] law . μὴmēvvv ἔχοντεςechontesdo not have ἑαυτοῖςheautoisto themselves , εἰσιeisiare νόμοςnomosa law
15οἵτινεςhoitines[So] they ἐνδείκνυνταιendeiknyntaishow [that] τὸtothe ἔργονergonwork τοῦtouof the νόμουnomoulaw γραπτὸνgraptonis written ἐνenon ταῖςtais- καρδίαιςkardiaishearts , αὐτῶνautōntheir συμμαρτυρούσηςsymmartyrousēsbearing witness , αὐτῶνautōntheir τῆςtēs- συνειδήσεωςsyneidēseōsconsciences καὶkaialso μεταξὺmetaxyeither ἀλλήλωνallēlōn[and] their τῶνtōn- λογισμῶνlogismōnthoughts κατηγορούντωνkatēgorountōnaccusing ἢēor καὶkai- ἀπολογουμένωνapologoumenōndefending [them]
16ἐνenon ἡμέρᾳhēmeraday ‹ὅτε›hotewhen κρίνειkrineiwill judge ὁho- ΘεὸςTheosGod τὰta- κρυπτὰkryptasecrets τῶνtōn- ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnmen’s κατὰkataas proclaimed by τὸto- εὐαγγέλιόνeuangeliongospel . μουmoumy διὰdiathrough ἸησοῦIēsouJesus , ΧριστοῦChristouChrist
17ἴδῃidēhe had seen σὺsyyou , ἸουδαῖοςIoudaiosa Jew ; ἐπονομάζῃeponomazēyou call [yourself] καὶkai[if you] ἐπαναπαύῃepanapauērely on τὸto[His] νόμῳnomō[the] law καὶkaiand καυχᾶσαιkauchasaiboast ἐνenin ΘεῷTheōGod ;
18καὶkai[if you] γινώσκειςginōskeisknow τὸto[His] θέλημαthelēmawill καὶkaiand δοκιμάζειςdokimazeisapprove τὰtaof what διαφέρονταdiapherontais superior κατηχούμενοςkatēchoumenosbecause you are instructed ἐκekby τοῦtouthe νόμουnomoulaw ;
19πέποιθάςpepoithasare convinced [that] τεte[if you] σεαυτὸνseautonyou ὁδηγὸνhodēgona guide εἶναιeinaiare τυφλῶνtyphlōnfor [the] blind , φῶςphōsa light τῶνtōnfor those ἐνenin σκότειskoteidarkness ,
20παιδευτὴνpaideutēnan instructor ἀφρόνωνaphronōnof [the] foolish , διδάσκαλονdidaskalona teacher νηπίωνnēpiōnof infants , ἔχονταechonta[because] you have τὴνtēnthe μόρφωσινmorphōsinembodiment τῆςtēs- γνώσεωςgnōseōsof knowledge καὶkaiand τῆςtēs- ἀληθείαςalētheiastruth — ἐνenin τῷtōthe νόμῳnomōlaw
21ὁhowho οὖνoun{you,} then , διδάσκωνdidaskōnteach ἕτερονheteronothers , σεαυτὸνseautonyourself ? οὐouvvv διδάσκειςdidaskeisdo you not teach ὁhoYou who κηρύσσωνkēryssōnpreach μὴmēagainst κλέπτεινklepteinstealing , κλέπτειςklepteisdo you steal ?
22ὁhoYou who λέγωνlegōnforbid μὴmē. . . μοιχεύεινmoicheueinadultery , μοιχεύειςmoicheueisdo you commit adultery ? ὁhoYou who βδελυσσόμενοςbdelyssomenosabhor τὰta- εἴδωλαeidōlaidols , ἱεροσυλεῖςhierosyleisdo you rob temples ?
23ὃςhosYou who ἐνenin νόμῳnomō[the] law , καυχᾶσαιkauchasaiboast διὰdiaby τῆςtēs- παραβάσεωςparabaseōsbreaking τοῦtouthe νόμουnomoulaw ? τὸνton- ΘεὸνTheonGod ἀτιμάζειςatimazeisdo you dishonor
24τὸto“ - γὰρgar- ὌνομαOnomaname τοῦtouvvv ΘεοῦTheouGod’s δι’di’because of ὑμᾶςhymasyou .” βλασφημεῖταιblasphēmeitaiis blasphemed ἐνenamong τοῖςtoisthe ἔθνεσι,ethnesiGentiles καθὼςkathōsAs γέγραπταιgegraptaiit is written :
25ΠεριτομὴPeritomēCircumcision μὲνmen- γὰρgar- ὠφελεῖōpheleihas value ἐὰνeanif νόμονnomon[the] law , πράσσῃςprassēsyou observe ἐὰνeanif δὲdebut παραβάτηςparabatēsbreak νόμουnomou[the] law , ᾖςēsyou ἡhē- περιτομήperitomēcircumcision σουsouyour ἀκροβυστίαakrobystiauncircumcision . γέγονενgegonenhas become
26ἐὰνeanIf οὖνoun- ἡhē- ἀκροβυστίαakrobystiaa man who is not circumcised τὰtathe δικαιώματαdikaiōmatarequirements τοῦtouof the νόμουnomoulaw , φυλάσσῃphylassēkeeps ΟὐχίOuchi“ No ἡhē- ἀκροβυστίαakrobystiaa man who is not circumcised αὐτοῦautouhis εἰςeisas περιτομὴνperitomēncircumcision ? λογισθήσεταιlogisthēsetaibe regarded
27καὶkai- κρινεῖkrineiwill condemn ἡhēThe [one who is] ἐκekvvv φύσεωςphyseōsphysically ἀκροβυστίαakrobystiauncircumcised τὸνtonthe νόμονnomonlaw τελοῦσαtelousa[yet] keeps σὲseyou τὸνtonwho , διὰdia[even though you have] γράμματοςgrammatos[the] written code καὶkaiand περιτομῆςperitomēscircumcision , παραβάτηνparabatēn[are] a lawbreaker νόμουnomou. . . .
28ΟὐOunot γὰρgar- ὁhoA [man] ἐνen[ because he is one ] τῷtō- φανερῷphanerōoutwardly , ἸουδαῖόςIoudaiosa Jew ἐστινestinis οὐδὲoudenor ἡhē- ἐνenvvv τῷtōvvv φανερῷphanerō[ only ] outward ἐνen[and] σαρκὶsarkiphysical . περιτομήperitomē[is] circumcision
29ἀλλ’all’No , ὁhoa man [is] ἐνen[ because he is one ] τῷtō- κρυπτῷkryptōinwardly , ἸουδαῖοςIoudaiosa Jew καὶkaiand περιτομὴperitomēcircumcision [is a matter] καρδίαςkardiasof the heart , ἐνenby πνεύματιpneumati[the] Spirit , οὐounot γράμματιgrammatiby the written code . οὗhou[Such a man’s] ὁho- ἔπαινοςepainospraise οὐκouk[does] not [come] ἐξexfrom ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnmen , ἀλλ’all’but ἐκekfrom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouGod .
