1ΟἴδαμενOidamenwe know γὰρgarFor ὅτιhotithat ἐὰνeanif - ἐπίγειοςepigeiosearthly ἡμῶνhēmōnwe οἰκίαoikia[live in] τοῦtouthe σκήνουςskēnoustent καταλυθῇkatalythēis dismantled , οἰκοδομὴνoikodomēna building ἐκekfrom ΘεοῦTheouGod , ἔχομενechomenwe have οἰκίανoikianhouse ἀχειροποίητονacheiropoiētonnot built by human hands . αἰώνιονaiōnionan eternal ἐνenin τοῖςtois- οὐρανοῖςouranoisheaven ,
2καὶkai- γὰρgarFor ἐνenin τούτῳtoutōthis [tent] στενάζομενstenazomenwe groan , τὸtovvv οἰκητήριονoikētēriondwelling , ἡμῶνhēmōnour τὸtovvv ἐξexvvv οὐρανοῦouranouheavenly ἐπενδύσασθαιependysasthaito be clothed with ἐπιποθοῦντεςepipothounteslonging
3εἴeibecause γεge. . . καὶkai. . . ἐνδυσάμενοιendysamenoiwhen we are clothed , οὐouvvv γυμνοὶgymnoinaked . εὑρεθησόμεθαheurethēsomethawe will not be found
4καὶkaiSo γὰρgar. . . οἱhoi- ὄντεςontes[while] we are ἐνenin τῷ[this] σκήνειskēneitent , στενάζομενstenazomenwe groan βαρούμενοιbaroumenoiunder our burdens , ἐφ’eph’because . . . οὐouvvv θέλομενthelomenwe do not wish ἐκδύσασθαιekdysasthaito be unclothed ἀλλ’all’but ἐπενδύσασθαιependysasthaiclothed , ἵναhinaso that καταποθῇkatapothēmay be swallowed up τὸto[our] θνητὸνthnētonmortality ὑπὸhypoby τῆςtēs- ζωῆςzōēslife .
5ho- δὲdeAnd κατεργασάμενοςkatergasamenoshas prepared ἡμᾶςhēmasus εἰςeisfor αὐτὸautovery [purpose] τοῦτοtoutothis ΘεόςTheosGod ho- καὶkaialthough δοὺςdous[and] has given ἡμῖνhēminus τὸνton- ἀρραβῶναarrabōnaas a pledge of what is to come . τοῦtouthe ΠνεύματοςPneumatosSpirit
6ΘαρροῦντεςTharrounteswe are always confident , οὖνounTherefore πάντοτεpantotevvv καὶkaialthough εἰδότεςeidoteswe know ὅτιhotithat ἐνδημοῦντεςendēmounteswhile we are at home ἐνenin τῷthe σώματιsōmatibody , ἐκδημοῦμενekdēmoumenwe are away ἀπὸapofrom τοῦtouthe ΚυρίουKyriouLord .
7διὰdiaby πίστεωςpisteōsfaith , γὰρgarFor περιπατοῦμενperipatoumenwe walk οὐounot διὰdiaby εἴδουςeidoussight .
8ΘαρροῦμενTharroumenWe are confident , δὲdethen , καὶkaiand εὐδοκοῦμενeudokoumenwould prefer μᾶλλονmallon. . . ἐκδημῆσαιekdēmēsaito be away ἐκekfrom τοῦtouthe σώματοςsōmatosbody καὶkaiand ἐνδημῆσαιendēmēsaiat home πρὸςproswith τὸνtonthe ΚύριονKyrionLord .
9διὸdioSo καὶkai- φιλοτιμούμεθαphilotimoumethawe aspire εἴτεeitewhether ἐνδημοῦντεςendēmounteswe are here in this body εἴτεeiteor ἐκδημοῦντεςekdēmountesaway from it . εὐάρεστοιeuarestoiplease αὐτῷautōHim , εἶναιeinaito
10τοὺςtous- γὰρgarFor πάνταςpantasall ἡμᾶςhēmaswe φανερωθῆναιphanerōthēnaiappear δεῖdeimust ἔμπροσθενemprosthenbefore τοῦtouthe βήματοςbēmatosjudgment seat τοῦtou- ΧριστοῦChristouof Christ , ἵναhinathat κομίσηταιkomisētaimay receive his due ἕκαστοςhekastoseach one τὰta- διὰdiain τοῦtouthe σώματοςsōmatosbody , πρὸςprosfor hathe things ἔπραξενepraxendone εἴτεeitewhether ἀγαθὸνagathongood εἴτεeiteor κακὸνkakonevil
11ΕἰδότεςEidotessince we know οὖνounTherefore , τὸνton[what it means] φόβονphobonto fear τοῦtouthe ΚυρίουKyriouLord , ἀνθρώπουςanthrōpousmen . πείθομενpeithomenwe try to persuade ΘεῷTheōto God , δὲdeand πεφανερώμεθαpephanerōmethaWhat we are is clear ἐλπίζωelpizōI hope δὲdeand καὶkaias well . ἐνento ταῖςtais- συνειδήσεσινsyneidēsesinconscience ὑμῶνhymōnyour πεφανερῶσθαιpephanerōsthaiit is clear
12οὐouvvv γὰρgar- πάλινpalinagain . ἑαυτοὺςheautousourselves συνιστάνομενsynistanomenWe are not commending ὑμῖνhyminto you ἀλλὰallaInstead , ἀφορμὴνaphormēnan occasion διδόντεςdidonteswe are giving ὑμῖνhyminyou καυχήματοςkauchēmatosto be proud ὑπὲρhyperof ἡμῶνhēmōnus , ἵναhinaso that ἔχητεechēteyou can answer πρὸςpros. . . τοὺςtousthose who ἐνenin προσώπῳprosōpōappearances καυχωμένουςkauchōmenoustake pride καὶkai[rather than] οὐouvvv καρδίᾳkardia[the] heart .
13ΕἴτεEiteIf γὰρgar- ἐξέστημενexestēmenwe are out of our mind , ΘεῷTheō[it is] for God ; εἴτεeiteif σωφρονοῦμενsōphronoumenwe are of sound mind , ὑμῖνhymin[it is] for you .
14- γὰρgarFor ἀγάπηagapēlove τοῦtou- ΧριστοῦChristouChrist’s συνέχειsynecheicompels ἡμᾶςhēmasus ,
15κρίνανταςkrinantas[because] we are convinced τοῦτοtouto. . . ὅτιhotithat εἰeiAlthough εἷςheisOne ὑπὲρhyperfor πάντωνpantōnall , ἀπέθανενapethanendied ἄραaratherefore οἱhoi- πάντεςpantesall ἀπέθανονapethanondied . καὶkaiAnd ὑπὲρhyperfor πάντωνpantōnall , ἀπέθανενapethanenHe died ἵναhinathat οἱhoithose who ζῶντεςzōnteslive μηκέτιmēketi{should} no longer ἑαυτοῖςheautoisfor themselves , ζῶσινzōsinlive ἀλλὰallabut τῷfor Him [who] ὑπὲρhyperfor αὐτῶνautōnthem ἀποθανόντιapothanontidied καὶkaiand ἐγερθέντιegerthentiwas raised again .
16ὭστεHōsteSo ἡμεῖςhēmeiswe ἀπὸapofrom τοῦtou- νῦνnynnow on οὐδέναoudenano one οἴδαμενoidamenregard κατὰkataaccording to σάρκαsarka[the] flesh . εἰeiAlthough δὲde- καὶkaiand ἐγνώκαμενegnōkamenwe once regarded κατὰkata[in this way] σάρκαsarka. . . , ΧριστόνChristonChrist ἀλλὰalla- νῦνnyn- οὐκέτιouketino longer . γινώσκομενginōskomen[we do so]
17ὥστεhōsteTherefore εἴeiif τιςtisanyone ἐνen[is] in ΧριστῷChristōChrist , καινὴkainē[he is] a new κτίσιςktisiscreation . τὰtaThe ἀρχαῖαarchaiaold παρῆλθενparēlthenhas passed away . ἰδοὺidouBehold , γέγονεgegonehas been done , καινάkaina[the] new ΤὰTa- πάνταpantaAll this [is]
18ΤὰTa- δὲde- πάνταpantaAll this [is] ἐκekfrom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouGod , τοῦtouwho καταλλάξαντοςkatallaxantosreconciled ἡμᾶςhēmasus ἑαυτῷheautōto Himself διὰdiathrough ἸησοῦIēsouto Jesus . ΧριστοῦChristouChrist καὶkaiand δόντοςdontosgave ἡμῖνhēminus τὴνtēnthe διακονίανdiakonianministry τῆςtēs- καταλλαγῆςkatallagēsof reconciliation :
19ὡςhōs- ὅτιhotithat ΘεὸςTheosGod ἦνēnwas ἦνēnwas ΧριστῷChristōChrist , κόσμονkosmon[the] world καταλλάσσωνkatallassōnreconciling ἑαυτῷheautōto Himself μὴnot λογιζόμενοςlogizomenoscounting αὐτοῖςautoisagainst them . τὰta- παραπτώματαparaptōmatatrespasses αὐτῶνautōn[men’s] καὶkaiAnd θέμενοςthemenosHe has committed ἐνento ἡμῖνhēminus τὸνtonthe λόγονlogonmessage τῆςtēs- καταλλαγῆςkatallagēsof reconciliation .
20ὙπὲρHyperfor ΧριστοῦChristouChrist , οὖνounTherefore πρεσβεύομενpresbeuomenwe are ambassadors ὡςhōsas though τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouGod παρακαλοῦντοςparakalountoswere making His appeal δι’di’through ἡμῶνhēmōnus . δεόμεθαdeomethaWe implore you ὑπὲρhyperon behalf ΧριστοῦChristouof Christ : καταλλάγητεkatallagēteBe reconciled τῷ- ΘεῷTheōto God .
21τὸνtonHim who γὰρgarFor μὴ. . . γνόνταgnontaknew ἁμαρτίανhamartiansin ὑπὲρhypervvv ἡμῶνhēmōnon our behalf , ἁμαρτίανhamartian[to be] sin ἐποίησενepoiēsen[God] made ἵναhinaso that ἡμεῖςhēmeiswe γενώμεθαgenōmethamight become δικαιοσύνηdikaiosynē[the] righteousness ΘεοῦTheouof God . ἐνenin αὐτῷautōHim
