2ὑπὲρhyperfor βασιλέωνbasileōnkings καὶkaiand πάντωνpantōnall τῶνtōnthose ἐνenin ὑπεροχῇhyperochēauthority — ὄντωνontōn. . . ἵναhinaso that ἤρεμονēremontranquil καὶkaiand ἡσύχιονhēsychionquiet βίονbionlives διάγωμενdiagōmenwe may lead ἐνenin πάσῃpasēall εὐσεβείᾳeusebeiagodliness καὶkaiand σεμνότητιsemnotētidignity .
3τοῦτοtoutoThis γὰρgarFor καλὸνkalon[is] good καὶkaiand ἀπόδεκτονapodektonpleasing ἐνώπιονenōpionin the sight of τοῦtou- ΣωτῆροςSōtērosSavior , ἡμῶνhēmōnour ΘεοῦTheouGod
4ὃςhoswho πάνταςpantaseveryone ἀνθρώπουςanthrōpous. . . θέλειtheleiwants σωθῆναιsōthēnaito be saved καὶkaiand εἰςeisto ἐπίγνωσινepignōsin[the] knowledge ἀληθείαςalētheiasof [the] truth . ἐλθεῖνeltheinto come
5εἰςeisto γὰρgarFor ΘεόςTheosGod , ΕἷςHeis[there is] one καὶkaiand [there is] μεσίτηςmesitēsmediator ΘεοῦTheoubetween God καὶkaiand ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnmen , ἄνθρωποςanthrōpos[the] man ΧριστὸςChristosChrist ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ,
6howho δοὺςdousgave ἑαυτὸνheautonHimself ἀντίλυτρονantilytron[as] a ransom ὑπὲρhyperfor πάντωνpantōnall — τὸtothe μαρτύριονmartyriontestimony that was given καιροῖςkairoisat just the right time . ἰδίοιςidioisvvv
7εἰςeisFor ho[this reason] ἐτέθηνetethēnwas appointed as ἐγὼegōI κῆρυξkēryxa preacher , καὶkai- ἀπόστολοςapostolosan apostle , ἀλήθειανalētheian[the] truth ; λέγωlegōI am telling ἐνen[and] ΧριστῷChristōChrist . οὐou[I am] not ψεύδομαιpseudomailying [ about anything ] . διδάσκαλοςdidaskalosteacher ἐθνῶνethnōnof [the] Gentiles . ἐνen[and] πίστειpisteia faithful καὶkaiand ἀληθείᾳalētheiatrue
8ΒούλομαιBoulomaiI want οὖνounTherefore προσεύχεσθαιproseuchesthaito pray , τοὺςtousthe ἄνδραςandrasmen ἐνenvvv παντὶpantivvv τόπῳtopōeverywhere ἐπαίρονταςepairontaslifting up ὁσίουςhosiousholy χεῖραςcheirashands , χωρὶςchōriswithout ὀργῆςorgēsanger καὶkai[or] διαλογισμοῦdialogismoudissension .
9ὩσαύτωςHōsautōsLikewise , ‹καὶ›kai[I want] γυναῖκαςgynaikas[the] women ἐνenwith καταστολῇkatastolēapparel , κοσμίῳkosmiōrespectable μετὰmetawith αἰδοῦςaidousmodesty , καὶkaiand σωφροσύνηςsōphrosynēs[with] self-control , κοσμεῖνkosmeinto adorn ἑαυτάςheautasthemselves μὴnot ἐνenwith πλέγμασινplegmasinbraided hair ēor χρυσῷchrysōgold ēor μαργαρίταιςmargaritaispearls ēor ἱματισμῷhimatismōclothes , πολυτελεῖpolyteleiexpensive
10ἀλλ’all’but ho[as] πρέπειprepeiis proper γυναιξὶνgynaixinfor women [who] ἐπαγγελλομέναιςepangellomenaisprofess θεοσέβειανtheosebeianto worship God . δι’di’with ἔργωνergōndeeds , ἀγαθῶνagathōngood
11ΓυνὴGynēA woman ἐνenin ἡσυχίᾳhēsychiaquietness μανθανέτωmanthanetōmust learn ἐνenin πάσῃpasēfull ὑποταγῇhypotagēsubmissiveness .
12γυναικὶgynaikia woman δὲde- διδάσκεινdidaskeinto teach οὐκoukvvv ἐπιτρέπωepitrepōI do not permit οὐδὲoude[or] αὐθεντεῖνauthenteinto exercise authority over ἀνδρόςandrosa man ; ἀλλ’all’- εἶναιeinaishe is to remain ἐνen- ἡσυχίᾳhēsychiaquiet .
13ἈδὰμAdamAdam γὰρgarFor πρῶτοςprōtosfirst , ἐπλάσθηeplasthēwas formed εἶταeitaand then ΕὕαHeuaEve .
14καὶkaiAnd ἈδὰμAdamAdam οὐκouk[it was] not ἠπατήθηēpatēthē[who] was deceived , the δὲdebut γυνὴgynēwoman ἀπατηθεῖσαapatetheisa[who] was deceived ἐνeninto παραβάσειparabaseitransgression . γέγονε·gegonehas been done ,
15σωθήσεταιsōthēsetaiWomen, however, will be saved δὲdevvv διὰdiathrough τῆςtēs- τεκνογονίαςteknogoniaschildbearing , ἐὰνeanif μείνωσινmeinōsinthey continue ἐνenin πίστειpisteifaith , καὶkai- ἀγάπῃagapēlove , καὶkaiand ἁγιασμῷhagiasmōholiness , μετὰmetawith σωφροσύνηςsōphrosynēsself-control .
