3ΚαὶKaiAnd ἐλάλησενelalēsenHe told αὐτοῖςautoisthem πολλὰpollamany things ἐνenin παραβολαῖςparabolaisparables , λέγωνlegōnsaying ,
4ἸδοὺIdou- ἐξῆλθενexēlthenwent out hovvv σπείρωνspeirōn“ A farmer τοῦtou- σπεῖραιspeiraito sow καὶkaiAnd ἐνenas τῷ- σπείρεινspeireinsowing , αὐτὸνautonhe was hasome [seed] μὲνmen- ἔπεσενepesenfell παρὰparaalong τὴνtēnthe ὁδόνhodonpath , καὶkaiand ἐλθόνταelthontacame τὰtathe πετεινὰpeteinabirds κατέφαγενkatephagen[and] devoured αὐτάautait .
5ἌλλαAllaSome δὲde- ἔπεσενepesenfell ἐπὶepion τὰta- πετρώδηpetrōdērocky ground , ὅπουhopouwhere οὐκoukvvv εἶχεeikhewho had γῆνgēnsoil . πολλήνpollēnmuch καὶkai- εὐθέωςeutheōsquickly ἐξανέτειλεexaneteileIt sprang up διὰdiabecause τὸto- μὴvvv ἔχεινecheinwas βάθοςbathosshallow . γῆςgēsthe soil
6ἡλίουhēliou[when the] sun δὲdeBut ἀνατείλαντοςanateilantosrose , ἐκαυματίσθηekaumatisthē[the seedlings] were scorched , καὶkaiand διὰdiabecause τὸto- μὴno ἔχεινecheinthey had ῥίζανrhizanroot . ἐξηράνθηexēranthēthey withered
7ἌλλαAllaOther [seed] δὲde- ἔπεσενepesenfell ἐπὶepiamong τὰςtas- ἀκάνθαςakanthasthorns , καὶkaivvv ἀνέβησανanebēsangrew up αἱhaivvv ἄκανθαιakanthai[which] καὶkaiand ἀπέπνιξανapepnixan[and] choked αὐτάauta[the seedlings] .
8ἌλλαAllaother [seed] δὲdeStill ἔπεσενepesenfell ἐπὶepion τὴνtēn- γῆνgēnsoil τὴνtēn- καλὴνkalēngood καὶkaiand ἐδίδουedidouproduced καρπόνkarpona crop — ho- μὲνmen- ἑκατὸνhekatona hundredfold , ho- δὲde- ἑξήκονταhexēkontasixtyfold , ho- δὲde- τριάκονταtriakontathirtyfold .
9HoHe who ἔχωνechōnhas ὦταōtaears , ἀκούεινakoueinto hear , ἀκουέτωakouetōlet him hear . ”
10ΚαὶKaiThen προσελθόντεςproselthontescame to [Jesus] οἱhoithe μαθηταὶmathētaidisciples εἶπονeipon[and] said , αὐτῷautōto him διὰdiabecause of τίti. . . ἐνenin παραβολαῖςparabolaisparables ? ” λαλεῖςlaleisdo You speak αὐτοῖςautoisto [the people]
11Ho- δὲde- ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisHe replied εἶπενeipen. . . ‹αὐτοῖς›autois. . . , ὍτιHoti- ὙμῖνHyminto you , δέδοταιdedotaihas been given γνῶναιgnōnai“ The knowledge τὰtaof the μυστήριαmystēriamysteries τῆςtēsof the βασιλείαςbasileiaskingdom τῶνtōnof οὐρανῶνouranōnheaven ἐκείνοιςekeinoisto them δὲdebut οὐounot δέδοταιdedotai- .
12ὅστιςhostisWhoever γὰρgar- ἔχειecheihas δοθήσεταιdothēsetaiwill be given [more] , αὐτῷautō- καὶkaiand περισσευθήσεταιperisseuthēsetaihe will have an abundance . ὅστιςhostisWhoever δὲde- οὐκouk[does] not ἔχειecheihave , καὶkaieven howhat ἔχειecheihe has ἀρθήσεταιarthēsetaiwill be taken away ἀπ’ap’from αὐτοῦautouhim .
13διὰdiais why τοῦτοtoutoThis ἐνenin παραβολαῖςparabolaisparables : αὐτοῖςautoisto them λαλῶlalōI speak ὍτιHoti‘ Though βλέποντεςblepontesseeing , οὐouvvv βλέπουσιblepousisee ΚαὶKai[though] ἀκούοντεςakouonteshearing , οὐκoukvvv ἀκούουσιakouousiwill listen , οὐδὲoude[or] συνιοῦσι,suniousiunderstand . ’
14μήποτέmepotethat at not time, lest ever ἐπιστρέψωσι·epistrepsositurn , ΚαὶKai- τότεtotethen πληρωθήσεταιplērōthēsetaishall be filled in , αὐτοῖςautois- . “ The προφητείαprophēteiaprophecy ἨσαΐουĒsaiouof Isaiah - λέγουσαlegousa- : ἈκοῇAkoē. . . ἀκούσετεakousete‘ You will be ever hearing καὶkaibut οὐounever μὴ. . . συνῆτεsynēteunderstanding ; ΚαὶKai- βλέποντεςblepontes. . . βλέψετεblepseteyou will be ever seeing ΚαὶKai- οὐounever μὴ. . . ἴδητεidēteperceiving .
15ἘπαχύνθηEpachynthēhas grown callous ; γὰρgarFor - καρδίαkardiaheart τοῦtou- λαοῦlaoupeople’s τούτουtoutouthis ΚαὶKai- τοῖςtoiswith [their] ὠσὶosihearing . ” βαρέωςbareōs. . . ἤκουσανēkousanthey hardly hear ΚαὶKai- τοὺςtous- ὀφθαλμοὺςophthalmouseyes . αὐτῶνautōntheir ἐκάμμυσανekammysanthey have closed μήποτέmepotethat at not time, lest ever ἴδωσιidosithey see τοῖςtoiswith [their] ὀφθαλμοῖςophthalmoiseyes , ΚαὶKai- τοῖςtoiswith [their] ὠσὶνōsinears , ἀκούσωσιakousosihear ΚαὶKai- τῇwith [their] καρδίᾳkardiahearts , συνῶσιsunosiunderstand ΚαὶKaiand ἐπιστρέψωσι,epistrepsositurn , ΚαὶKaiand ἰάσομαιiasomaiI would heal αὐτούςautousthem .’
16ὙμῶνHymōnyour δὲdeBut μακάριοιmakarioiblessed [are] οἱhoi- ὀφθαλμοὶophthalmoieyes ὅτιhotibecause βλέπουσιblepousisee καὶkaiand τὰta- ὦταōtaears ὑμῶνhymōnyour ὅτιhotibecause ἀκούουσινakouousinthey hear .
17ἀμὴνamēntruly γὰρgarFor λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , ὅτιhoti- πολλοὶpolloimany προφῆταιprophētaiprophets καὶkaiand δίκαιοιdikaioirighteous [men] ἐπεθύμησανepethymēsanlonged ἰδεῖνideinto see hawhat βλέπετεblepeteyou see καὶkai[but] οὐκoukvvv εἶδον*eidonthey saw καὶkai[but] ἀκοῦσαιakousaito hear hawhat ἀκούετεakoueteyou hear καὶkai[but] οὐκoukvvv ἤκουσανēkousandid not hear [it] .
18ὙμεῖςHymeisvvv οὖνounthen , ἀκούσατεakousateConsider , τὴνtēnthe παραβολὴνparabolēnparable τοῦtouof the σπείραντοςspeirantossower :
19ΠαντὸςPantosWhen anyone ἀκούοντοςakouontoshears τὸνtonthe λόγονlogonmessage τῆςtēsof the βασιλείαςbasileiaskingdom καὶkaibut μὴ{does} not συνιέντοςsynientosunderstand [it] , ἔρχεταιerchetaicomes hothe πονηρὸςponērosevil one καὶkaiand αἴρειaireitakes away τὸtowhat ἐσπαρμένονesparmenonwas sown ἐνenin τῇ- καρδίᾳkardiaheart . αὐτοῦautouhis οὗτόςhoutosThis ἐστινestinis hothe [seed] παρὰparaalong τὴνtēnthe ὁδὸνhodonpath . σπαρείςspareissown
20HoThe [seed] δὲde- ἐπὶepion τὰta- πετρώδηpetrōdērocky ground σπαρείςspareissown οὗτόςhoutos- ἐστινestinis hothe [one who] τὸνtonthe λόγονlogonword ἀκούωνakouōnhears καὶkaiand εὐθέωςeutheōsquickly μετὰmetawith χαρᾶςcharasjoy . λαμβάνωνlambanōnreceives αὐτόνautonit
21οὐκoukno ἔχειecheihe has δὲdesince ῥίζανrhizanroot , ἐνen. . . ἑαυτῷheautō. . . ἀλλὰallaBut πρόσκαιρόςproskairosfor only a season . ἐστι,estiis γενομένηςgenomenēscomes δὲde[When] θλίψεωςthlipseōstrouble ēor διωγμοῦdiōgmoupersecution διὰdiabecause of τὸνtonthe λόγονlogonword , εὐθὺςeuthysvvv σκανδαλίζεταιskandalizetaihe quickly falls away .
22HoThe [seed] δὲde- εἰςeisamong τὰςtasthe ἀκάνθαςakanthasthorns σπαρείςspareissown οὗτόςhoutos- ἐστινestinis hothe [one who] τὸνtonthe λόγονlogonword , ἀκούωνakouōnhears καὶkaibut the μέριμναmerimnaworries τοῦtouof αἰῶνοςaiōnoslife ‹τούτου›toutouthis καὶkaiand the ἀπάτηapatēdeceitfulness τοῦtou- πλούτουploutouof wealth συμπνίγειsympnigeichoke τὸνtonthe λόγονlogonword , καὶkaiand ἄκαρποςakarposunfruitful . γίνεταιginetaiit becomes
23Hothe [seed] δὲdeBut ἐπὶepion τὴνtēn- γῆνgēnsoil τὴνtēn- καλὴνkalēngood σπαρείςspareissown οὗτόςhoutos- ἐστινestinis hothe [one who] τὸνtonthe λόγονlogonword ἀκούωνakouōnhears καὶkai[and] συνιῶν,sunionunderstands [it] . ὃςhos[He] δὴindeed καρποφορεῖkarpophoreibears fruit καὶkaiand ποιεῖpoieiproduces a crop — ho- μὲνmen- ἑκατὸνhekatona hundredfold , ho- δὲde- ἑξήκονταhexēkontasixtyfold , ho- δὲde- τριάκονταtriakontathirtyfold . ”
24ἌλληνAllēnanother παραβολὴνparabolēnparable παρέθηκενparethēken[Jesus] put before αὐτοῖςautoisthem λέγωνlegōn- : ὩμοιώθηHōmoiōthēis like “ The βασιλείαbasileiakingdom τῶνtōnof οὐρανῶνouranōnheaven ἀνθρώπῳanthrōpōa man σπείραντιspeirantiwho sowed καλὸνkalongood σπέρμαspermaseed ἐνenin τῷ- ἀγρῷagrōfield . αὐτοῦautouhis
25ἐνenin δὲdeBut τῷ. . . καθεύδεινkatheudeinwas asleep , τοὺςtousvvv ἀνθρώπουςanthrōpouseveryone ἦλθενēlthencame αὐτοῦautouhis ho- ἐχθρὸςechthrosenemy καὶkaiand ἔσπειρεespeireplanted ζιζάνιαzizaniaweeds ἀνὰanaamong μέσονmeson. . . τοῦtouthe σίτουsitouwheat , καὶkaiand ἀπῆλθενapēlthenslipped away .
26ὅτεhoteWhen δὲde- ἐβλάστησενeblastēsensprouted hothe χόρτοςchortoswheat καὶkaiand καρπὸνkarpongrain , ἐποίησε,epoiesehas done τότεtotethen ἐφάνηephanēappeared . καὶkaialso τὰtathe ζιζάνιαzizaniaweeds
27ΠροσελθόντεςProselthontescame δὲde- οἱhoiThe δοῦλοιdouloiservants τοῦtouvvv οἰκοδεσπότουoikodespotouowner’s εἶπονeipon[and] said , αὐτῷautōto him ΚύριεKyrie‘ Sir , οὐχὶouchivvv καλὸνkalongood σπέρμαspermaseed ἔσπειραςespeirasdidn’t you sow ἐνenin τῷ- σῷyour ἀγρῷagrōfield ? πόθενpothenWhere οὖνounthen ἔχειecheidid ζιζάνιαzizania[the] weeds {come from} ? ’
28Ho- δὲde- ἔφηephēhe replied αὐτοῖςautois- . ἘχθρὸςEchthros‘ An enemy ἄνθρωποςanthrōpos. . . τοῦτοtoutothis , ’ ἐποίησενepoiēsendid ΟἱHoi- δὲde[So] δοῦλοιdouloi[the] servants εἶπονeipon[and] said , αὐτῷautōto him ΘέλειςTheleisDo you want οὖνoun‘ - ἀπελθόντεςapelthontesus to go [and] συλλέξωμενsyllexōmenpull them up αὐτάauta. . . ? ’
29Ho- δέde- ἔφηephēhe replied ΟὔOu‘ No μήποτέmepotethat at not time, lest ever συλλέγοντεςsyllegontesyou pull τὰtathe ζιζάνιαzizaniaweeds [now] , ἐκριζώσητεekrizōsēteyou might uproot ἅμαhamawith αὐτοῖςautoisthem . τὸνtonthe σῖτονsitonwheat
30ἄφετεapheteLet συναυξάνεσθαιsynauxanesthaigrow together ἀμφότεραamphoteraboth μέχριmechriuntil τοῦtouthe θερισμοῦtherismouharvest . καὶkai- ἐνenAt that time καιρῷkairō. . . τοῦtou. . . θερισμοῦtherismou. . . ἐρῶerōI will tell τοῖςtoisthe θερισταῖςtheristaisharvesters : ΣυλλέξατεSyllexatecollect πρῶτονprōtonFirst τὰtathe ζιζάνιαzizaniaweeds καὶkaiand δήσατεdēsatetie αὐτὰautathem εἰςeisin δέσμαςdesmasbundles πρὸςprosto τὸto- κατακαῦσαιkatakausaibe burned αὐτάauta- ; τὸνton- δὲdethen σῖτονsiton[the] wheat συναγάγετεsynagagetegather εἰςeisinto τὴνtēn- ἀποθήκηνapothēkēnbarn .’ ” μουmoumy

32hoit μικρότερονmikroteron[the] smallest μένmenAlthough ἐστιestiis πάντωνpantōnof all τῶνtōn- σπερμάτωνspermatōnseeds , ὅτανhotan- δὲdeyet αὐξηθῇauxēthēit grows into μεῖζονmeizonthe largest τῶνtōnof λαχάνωνlachanōngarden plants ἐστὶestiis καὶkaiand γίνεταιginetaibecomes δένδρονdendrona tree , ὥστεhōsteso that ἐλθεῖνeltheincome τὰtathe πετεινὰpeteinabirds τοῦtouof the οὐρανοῦouranouair καὶkaiand κατασκηνοῦν*kataskēnounnest ἐνenin τοῖςtois- κλάδοιςkladoisbranches . ” αὐτοῦautouits
33ἌλληνAllēnstill another παραβολὴνparabolēnparable : ἐλάλησενelalēsenHe told αὐτοῖςautoisthem ὉμοίαHomoialike ἐστὶνestinis “ The βασιλείαbasileiakingdom τῶνtōnof οὐρανῶνouranōnheaven ζύμῃzymēleaven ἣνhēnthat λαβοῦσαlabousatook [and] γυνὴgynēa woman ἐνέκρυψενenekrypsenmixed εἰςeisinto ἀλεύρουaleurouof flour , σάταsatameasures τρίαtriathree ἕωςheōsuntil οὗhouof it ἐζυμώθηezymōthēwas leavened . ” ὅλονholonall
34ΤαῦταTautathese things πάνταpantaall ἐλάλησενelalēsenspoke ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἐνenin παραβολαῖςparabolaisparables . τοῖςtoisto the ὄχλοιςochloiscrowds καὶkai- χωρὶςchōriswithout using παραβολῆςparabolēsa parable . οὐδὲνouden. . . ἐλάλειelaleiHe did not tell them anything αὐτοῖςautois. . .
35ὅπωςhopōsSo πληρωθῇplērōthēwas fulfilled τὸtowhat ῥηθὲνrhēthenwas spoken διὰdiathrough τοῦtouthe προφήτουprophētouprophet λέγοντοςlegontos- : ἈνοίξωAnoixō“ I will open ἐνenin παραβολαῖςparabolaisparables ; τὸto- στόμαstomamouth μουmouMy ἐρεύξομαιereuxomaiI will utter κεκρυμμέναkekrymmenathings hidden ἀπὸaposince καταβολῆςkatabolēs[the] foundation [κόσμου]kosmou[of the] world .”
36ΤότεToteThen ἀφεὶςapheis[Jesus] dismissed τοὺςtousthe ὄχλουςochlouscrowds ἦλθενēlthen[and] went εἰςeisinto τὴνtēnthe οἰκίανoikianhouse . αὐτοῦautouHis ΚαὶKai- προσῆλθονprosēlthoncame αὐτῷautōto Him οἱhoi- μαθηταὶmathētaidisciples αὐτοῦautouHis λέγοντεςlegontes[and] said , ΦράσονPhrason“ Explain ἡμῖνhēminto us τὴνtēnthe παραβολὴνparabolēnparable τῶνtōnof the ζιζανίωνzizaniōnweeds τοῦtouin the ἀγροῦagroufield . ”
37Ho- δὲde- ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisHe replied εἶπενeipen- , αὐτοῖςautois. . . ho- σπείρωνspeirōnwho sows τὸtothe καλὸνkalongood σπέρμαspermaseed ἐστὶνestinis hothe ΥἱὸςHuiosSon τοῦtou- ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouof Man .
38ho- δὲde- ἀγρόςagros[The] field ἐστινestinis hothe κόσμοςkosmosworld , τὸto- δὲdeand καλὸνkalon[the] good σπέρμαspermaseed οὗτοίhoutoirepresents εἰσινeisin. . . οἱhoithe υἱοὶhuioisons τῆςtēsof the βασιλείαςbasileiaskingdom . τὰta- δὲde- ζιζάνιάzizania[The] weeds εἰσινeisinare οἱhoithe υἱοὶhuioisons τοῦtouof the πονηροῦponērouevil [one] ,
39hothe δὲdeand ἐχθρὸςechthrosenemy ho- σπείραςspeiraswho sows αὐτάautathem ἐστινestinis hothe διάβολοςdiabolosdevil . hothe δὲde- θερισμὸςtherismosharvest συντέλειαsynteleia[the] end τοῦtouof the αἰῶνόςaiōnosof the age , ἐστινestinis οἱhoi- δὲdeand θερισταὶtheristai[the] harvesters ἄγγελοίangeloiangels . εἰσινeisinare
40ὭσπερHōsperAs οὖνounvvv συλλέγεταιsyllegetaiare collected τὰtathe ζιζάνιαzizaniaweeds καὶkaiand πυρὶpyriin the fire , καίεται,kaietaiburned οὕτωςhoutōsso ἔσταιestaiwill it be ἐνenat τῇthe συντελείᾳsynteleiaend τοῦtouof the αἰῶνοςaiōnosage .
41ἀποστελεῖaposteleiwill send out hoThe ΥἱὸςHuiosSon τοῦtou- ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouof Man τοὺςtous- ἀγγέλουςangelousangels , αὐτοῦautouHis καὶkaiand συλλέξουσινsyllexousinthey will weed ἐκekout of τῆςtēs- βασιλείαςbasileiaskingdom αὐτοῦautouHis πάνταpantaevery τὰta- σκάνδαλαskandalacause of sin καὶkaiand τοὺςtousall who ποιοῦνταςpoiountaspractice τὴνtēn- ἀνομίανanomianlawlessness .
42καὶkaiAnd βαλοῦσινbalousinthey will throw αὐτοὺςautousthem εἰςeisinto τὴνtēnthe κάμινονkaminonfurnace , τοῦtouvvv πυρόςpyrosfiery ἐκεῖekei[where] there ἔσταιestaiwill be ho- κλαυθμὸςklauthmosweeping καὶkaiand ho- βρυγμὸςbrygmosgnashing τῶνtōnof ὀδόντωνodontōnteeth .
43τότεtoteThen οἱhoithe δίκαιοιdikaioirighteous ἐκλάμψουσινeklampsousinwill shine ὡςhōslike hothe ἥλιοςhēliossun ἐνenin τῇthe βασιλείᾳbasileiakingdom τοῦtouof ΠατρὸςPatrosFather . αὐτῶνautōntheir HoHe who ἔχωνechōnhas ὦταōtaears , ἀκούεινakoueinto hear , ἀκουέτωakouetōlet him hear .
44ΠάλινPalinAgain , ὁμοίαhomoialike ἐστὶνestinis the βασιλείαbasileiakingdom τῶνtōnof οὐρανῶνouranōnheaven θησαυρῷthēsaurōtreasure κεκρυμμένῳkekrymmenōhidden ἐνenin τῷ- ἀγρῷagrōa field . ὃνhon[it] , εὑρὼνheurōnfound ἄνθρωποςanthrōpos[When a] man ἔκρυψε,ekrupse[and] mixed καὶkaiand ἀπὸapoin τῆςtēs[his] χαρᾶςcharasjoy αὐτοῦautou. . . ὑπάγειhypageihe went καὶkaiand ‹πάντα›pantaall ὅσαhosa- ἔχειecheihe had πωλεῖpōleisold καὶkaiand ἀγοράζειagorazeibought τὸνton- ἀγρὸνagronfield . ἐκεῖνονekeinonthat
45ΠάλινPalinAgain , ὁμοίαhomoialike ἐστὶνestinis the βασιλείαbasileiakingdom τῶνtōnof οὐρανῶνouranōnheaven ‹ἀνθρώπῳ›anthrōpōvvv ἐμπόρῳemporōa merchant ζητοῦντιzētountiin search of καλοὺςkalousfine μαργαρίταςmargaritaspearls .
46ὡςhōslike εὑρὼνheurōnfound ἕναhenaone πολύτιμονpolytimonvery precious μαργαρίτηνmargaritēnpearl , ἀπελθὼνapelthōnhe went away πέπρακεpeprake[and] sold πάνταpantaall ὅσαhosa- εἶχεeikhewho had καὶkaiand ἠγόρασενēgorasenbought αὐτόνautonit .
47ΠάλινPalinOnce again , ὁμοίαhomoialike ἐστὶνestinis the βασιλείαbasileiakingdom τῶνtōnof οὐρανῶνouranōnheaven σαγήνῃsagēnēa net βληθείσῃblētheisēthat was cast εἰςeisinto τὴνtēnthe θάλασσανthalassansea καὶkaiand ἐκek- παντὸςpantosall γένουςgenouskinds [of fish] . συναγαγούσῃsynagagousēcaught
