1ΘέλωThelōI want γὰρgarFor ὑμᾶςhymasyou εἰδέναιeidenaito know ἡλίκονhēlikonhow much ἀγῶναagōnavvv ἔχωechōI am struggling περὶperiof ὑμῶνhymōnyou καὶkaiand τῶνtōn[for] those ἐνenat ΛαοδικείᾳLaodikeiaLaodicea , καὶkaiand ὅσοιhosoifor all who οὐχouchvvv ἑωράκασιeorakasithey have seen τὸto- πρόσωπόνprosōponface to face μουmoume ἐνen. . . σαρκίsarki. . . ,
2ἵναhinathat παρακληθῶσινparaklēthōsinthey may be encouraged αἱhai- καρδίαιkardiaiin heart , αὐτῶνautōn- συμβιβασθέντωνsumbibasthentonknit together ἐνenin ἀγάπῃagapēlove , καὶkaiand εἰςeisfilled with πάνταpantaall πλουτῶνploutōnis not rich τῆςtēs- πληροφορίαςplērophoriasof complete τῆςtēs- συνέσεωςsyneseōsunderstanding , εἰςeisso that ἐπίγνωσινepignōsinthey may know τοῦtouthe μυστηρίουmystērioumystery τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God , καὶkaiand πατρὸςpatrosfather καὶkaiand τοῦtou- ΧριστοῦChristou[namely] Christ ,
3ἐνenin ᾧhōwhom εἰσιeisiare πάντεςpantesall οἱhoithe θησαυροὶthēsauroitreasures τῆςtēs- σοφίαςsophiasof wisdom καὶkaiand τῆςtēs- γνώσεωςgnōseōsknowledge . ἀπόκρυφοιapokryphoihidden
4ΤοῦτοToutothis δὲdebut λέγωlegōI say ἵναhinaso that μήmēthat no one τιςtis. . . ὑμᾶςhymas. . . παραλογίζηταιparalogizētaiwill deceive ἐνenby πιθανολογίᾳpithanologiasmooth rhetoric .
5εἰei. . . γὰρgarFor καὶkaialthough τῇtēin σαρκὶsarkibody , ἄπειμιapeimiI am absent from you ἀλλὰalla- τῷtō- πνεύματιpneumatiin spirit , σὺνsynwith ὑμῖνhyminyou εἰμιeimiI am present χαίρωνchairōn[and] I delight καὶkai- βλέπωνblepōnto see ὑμῶνhymōnyour τὴνtēn- τάξινtaxinorderly condition καὶkaiand τὸto- στερέωμαstereōmafirm τῆςtēs- εἰςeisin ΧριστὸνChristonChrist . πίστεωςpisteōsfaith ὑμῶνhymōn-
6ὩςHōsjust as οὖνounTherefore , παρελάβετεparelabeteyou have received τὸνton- ΧριστὸνChristonChrist ἸησοῦνIēsounJesus τὸνton[as] ΚύριονKyrionLord , ἐνenin αὐτῷautōHim , περιπατεῖτεperipateitecontinue to walk
7ἐρριζωμένοιerrizōmenoirooted καὶkaiand ἐποικοδομούμενοιepoikodomoumenoibuilt up ἐνenin αὐτῷautōHim , καὶkai- βεβαιούμενοιbebaioumenoiestablished in ἐνenin τῇtēthe πίστειpisteifaith καθὼςkathōsas ἐδιδάχθητεedidachthēteyou were taught , περισσεύοντεςperisseuontes[and] overflowing ἐνenwith αὐτῇautēher , ἐνenwith εὐχαριστίᾳeucharistiathankfulness .
8ΒλέπετεBlepeteSee to it μήmēthat no one τιςtis. . . ὑμᾶςhymas. . . ἔσταιestai. . . ὁho- συλαγωγῶνsylagōgōntakes you captive διὰdiathrough τῆςtēs- φιλοσοφίαςphilosophiasphilosophy καὶkaiand κενῆςkenēsempty ἀπάτηςapatēsdeception , κατὰkatawhich are based on τὴνtēn- παράδοσινparadosintradition τῶνtōnvvv ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnhuman κατὰkata[and] τὰtathe στοιχεῖαstoicheiaspiritual forces τοῦtouof the κόσμουkosmouworld καὶkaivvv οὐourather than κατὰkataon ΧριστόνChristonChrist .
9ὅτιhotiFor ἐνenin αὐτῷautō[Christ] κατοικεῖkatoikeidwells πᾶνpanall τὸtothe πλήρωμαplērōmafullness τῆςtēsof the ΘεότητοςTheotētosDeity σωματικῶςsōmatikōsin bodily form .
10καὶkaiAnd ἐστὲesteyou have been ἐνenin αὐτῷautō[Christ] , πεπληρωμένοιpeplērōmenoimade complete ὅςhoswho ἐστινestinis ἡhēthe κεφαλὴkephalēhead πάσηςpasēsover every ἀρχῆςarchēsruler καὶkaiand ἐξουσίαςexousiasauthority .
11ἐνenIn ᾧhōHim καὶkaivvv περιτμηθῆτεperitmēthēteyou are circumcised περιτομῇperitomēcircumcision ἀχειροποιήτῳacheiropoiētōnot by human hands . ἐνenin τῇtēthe ἀπεκδύσειapekdyseiputting off τοῦtouof [your] σώματοςsōmatos. . . , τῶνtōnvvv ἁμαρτιῶνhamartiōnsins , τῆςtēs- σαρκόςsarkossinful nature ἐνenwith τῇtēthe περιτομῇperitomēcircumcision τοῦtou- ΧριστοῦChristou[performed] by Christ
12συνταφέντεςsyntaphenteshaving been buried with αὐτῷautōHim ἐνenin τῷtō- βαπτίσματι,baptismatibaptism , ἐνenin ᾧhō- καὶkaiAnd συνηγέρθητεsynēgerthēteyou were raised with [Him] διὰdiathrough τῆςtēs[your] πίστεωςpisteōsfaith τῆςtēsin the ἐνεργείαςenergeiaspower τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God , τοῦtouwho ἐγείραντοςegeirantosraised αὐτὸνautonHim ἐκekfrom τῶνtōnvvv νεκρῶνnekrōnthe dead .
13ΚαὶKai[When] ὑμᾶςhymasyou νεκροὺςnekrousdead ὄνταςontaswere ‹ἐν›enin τοῖςtois[your] παραπτώμασιparaptomasitrespasses καὶkaiand τῇtēin the ἀκροβυστίᾳakrobystiauncircumcision τῆςtēs- σαρκὸςsarkossinful nature , ὑμῶνhymōnof your συνεζωοποίησενsynezōopoiēsenGod made you alive ὑμᾶςhymasvvv σὺνsynwith αὐτῷautō[Christ] . χαρισάμενοςcharisamenosHe forgave ἡμῖνhēminus πάνταpantaall τὰta[our] παραπτώματαparaptōmatatrespasses ,
14ἐξαλείψαςexaleipsashaving canceled τὸtothe καθ’kath’to ἡμῶνhēmōnus χειρόγραφονcheirographondebt ascribed τοῖςtoisin the δόγμασινdogmasindecrees ὃhothat ἦνēnstood ὑπεναντίονhypenantionagainst ἡμῖνhēminus . καὶkai- αὐτὸautoit ἦρενērenswept them all away ἐκekaway τοῦtou. . . μέσουmesou. . . , προσηλώσαςprosēlōsasnailing αὐτὸautoit τῷtōto the σταυρῷstaurōcross !
15ἀπεκδυσάμενοςapekdysamenos[And] having disarmed τὰςtasthe ἀρχὰςarchaspowers καὶkaiand τὰςtas- ἐξουσίαςexousiasauthorities , ἐδειγμάτισενedeigmatisenHe made a public spectacle [of them] ἐνen. . . παρρησίᾳparrēsia. . . , θριαμβεύσαςthriambeusastriumphing αὐτοὺςautousover them ἐνenby αὐτῷautō[the cross] .
16ΜὴMē{let} no οὖνounTherefore τιςtisone ὑμᾶςhymasyou κρινέτωkrinetōjudge ἐνenby βρώσειbrōseiwhat you eat ἢēor ἐνenwith πόσειposeidrink , ἢēor ἐνenwith μέρειmereiregard to ἑορτῆςheortēsa feast , ἢē- νουμηνίαςnoumeniasa New Moon , ἢē- σαββάτωνsabbatōna Sabbath .
17ἅhaThese ἐστίestiI have σκιὰskiaa shadow τῶνtōnof the things μελλόντωνmellontōnto come , τὸtothe δὲdebut σῶμαsōmabody [ that casts it ] ΧριστοῦChristouChrist .
18μηδεὶςmēdeis[Do not let anyone] ὑμᾶςhymasyou καταβραβευέτωkatabrabeuetōdisqualify θέλωνthelōnwho delights ἐνenin ταπεινοφροσύνῃtapeinophrosynē[false] humility καὶkaiand θρησκείᾳthrēskeia[the] worship τῶνtōn- ἀγγέλωνangelōnof angels ἃhawhat ΜὴMē{let} no ἑόρακενheorakenhe has seen . ἐμβατεύωνembateuōnwith speculation about εἰκῇeikēwithout basis φυσιούμενοςphysioumenos[Such a person] is puffed up ὑπὸhypoby τοῦtou- νοὸςnoosmind . τῆςtēsvvv σαρκὸςsarkosunspiritual αὐτοῦautouhis
19καὶkai- οὐouvvv κρατῶνkratōnHe has lost connection τὴνtēnto the ΚεφαλήνKephalēnhead , ἐξexfrom οὗhouwhom πᾶνpanwhole τὸtothe σῶμαsōmabody , διὰdiaby τῶνtōn[its] ἁφῶνhaphōnjoints καὶkaiand συνδέσμωνsyndesmōnligaments , ἐπιχορηγούμενονepichorēgoumenonsupported καὶkaiand συμβιβαζόμενονsymbibazomenonknit together αὔξειauxeigrows τὴνtēnas αὔξησινauxēsincauses it to grow . τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouGod
20ΕἰEiIf ἀπεθάνατεapethanateyou have died σὺνsynwith τὸtothe ΧριστῷChristōChrist ἀπὸapoto τῶνtōnthe στοιχείωνstoicheiōnspiritual forces τοῦtouof the κόσμουkosmouworld , τίtiwhy , ὡςhōsas though ζῶντεςzōntesyou still belonged ἐνento κόσμῳkosmō[the] world , δογματίζεσθεdogmatizesthedo you submit to [its] regulations :
21ΜὴMē“ {Do} ἅψῃhapsēnot handle , μηδὲmēde{do} γεύσῃgeusēnot taste , μηδὲmēde{do} θίγῃςthigēsnot touch ! ”?
22ἅha[These] ἐστίestiI have πάνταpantaall εἰςeis- φθορὰνphthoranperish τῇtēwith ἀποχρήσειapochrēseiuse , κατὰkatabecause they are based on τὰta- ἐντάλματαentalmatacommands καὶkaiand διδασκαλίαςdidaskaliasteachings . τῶνtōnvvv ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnhuman
23ἅτινάhatinaSuch [restrictions] ἐστίestiI have λόγονlogonan appearance μὲνmenindeed ἔχονταechontahave σοφίαςsophiasof wisdom , ἐνenwith [their] ἐθελοθρησκίᾳethelothrēskiaself-prescribed worship , καὶkai- ταπεινοφροσύνῃtapeinophrosynē[their false] humility , καὶkaiand ἀφειδίᾳapheidia[their] harsh treatment σώματοςsōmatosof [the] body ; οὐκoukno ἐνenof τιμῇtimēvalue τινιtini- πρὸςprosagainst πλησμονὴνplēsmonēn[the] indulgence τῆςtēsof the σαρκόςsarkosflesh .
