1ΔιὸDioTherefore ἀφέντεςaphenteslet us leave τὸνtonthe τῆςtēs- ἀρχῆςarchēselementary τοῦtou- ΧριστοῦChristouabout Christ λόγονlogonteachings ἐπὶepito τὴνtēn- τελειότηταteleiotētamaturity , φερώμεθαpherōmetha[and] go on μὴmēnot πάλινpalinagain θεμέλιονthemelion[the] foundation καταβαλλόμενοιkataballomenoilaying μετανοίαςmetanoiasof repentance ἀπὸapofrom νεκρῶνnekrōndead ἔργωνergōnworks , καὶkaiand πίστεωςpisteōsof faith ἐπὶepiin τὸνtonthe ΘεόνTheonGod ,
2βαπτισμῶνbaptismōnabout baptisms , διδαχῆςdidachēsof teaching ἐπιθέσεώςepitheseōs[the] laying on τεte- χειρῶνcheirōnof hands , ἀναστάσεώςanastaseōs[the] resurrection ‹τε›te- νεκρῶνnekrōnof [the] dead , καὶkaiand κρίματοςkrimatosjudgment . αἰωνίουaiōnioueternal
3καὶkaiand τοῦτοtoutothis ποιήσομενpoiēsomenwe will do , ἐάνπερeanperif ἐπιτρέπῃepitrepēpermits . ὁho- ΘεόςTheosGod
4ἈδύνατονAdynaton[It is] impossible γὰρgar- τοὺςtousfor those who ἅπαξhapaxvvv φωτισθένταςphōtisthentashave once been enlightened , γευσαμένουςgeusamenous[who] have tasted τεte- τῆςtēsthe δωρεᾶςdōreasgift , τῆςtēs- ἐπουρανίουepouraniouheavenly καὶkai- μετόχουςmetochous. . . γενηθένταςgenēthentas[who] have shared ΠνεύματοςPneumatosSpirit , ἉγίουHagiouin [the] Holy
5καὶkai- καλὸνkalon[the] goodness γευσαμένουςgeusamenouswho have tasted ΘεοῦTheouof God ῥῆμαrhēma[of the] word δυνάμειςdynameis[the] powers τεteand μέλλοντοςmellontos[of the] coming αἰῶνοςaiōnosage —
6καὶkaiand then παραπεσόνταςparapesontashave fallen away — πάλινpalin. . . ἀνακαινίζεινanakainizeinto be restored εἰςeisto μετάνοιανmetanoianrepentance , ἀνασταυροῦνταςanastaurountasare crucifying ἑαυτοῖςheautoisbecause they themselves τὸνtonthe ΥἱὸνHuionSon τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God {all over again} καὶkaiand παραδειγματίζονταςparadeigmatizontassubjecting [Him] to open shame .
7ΓῆGēland γὰρgarFor ἡhē- πιοῦσαpiousathat drinks in τὸνtonthe ἐπ’ep’on αὐτῆςautēsit πολλάκιςpollakisoften ἐρχόμενονerchomenonfalling ὑετόνhyetonrain καὶkaiand τίκτουσαtiktousathat produces βοτάνηνbotanēna crop εὔθετονeuthetonuseful ἐκείνοιςekeinoisto those δι’di’for οὓςhouswhom καὶkai- γεωργεῖταιgeōrgeitaiit is tended μεταλαμβάνειmetalambaneireceives εὐλογίαςeulogias[the] blessing ἀπὸapoof τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouGod .
8ἐκφέρουσαekpherousa[land that] produces δὲdeBut ἀκάνθαςakanthasthorns καὶkaiand τριβόλουςtribolousthistles ἀδόκιμοςadokimos[is] worthless , καὶkaiand κατάραςkataras[its] curse ἐγγύςengysis imminent . ἧςhēs[In] τὸtothe τέλοςtelosend εἰςeisvvv καῦσινkausinit will be burned .
9ΠεπείσμεθαPepeismethawe are convinced δὲde- περὶperiin ὑμῶνhymōnyour [case] — ἀγαπητοίagapētoibeloved , τὰtaof κρείττονα*kreittonaa better καὶkai- ἐχόμεναechomena[things that] accompany σωτηρίαςsōtēriassalvation . εἰeithough καὶkaiEven οὕτωhoutōso λαλοῦμενlaloumenwe speak
10οὐou[is] not γὰρgarFor ἄδικοςadikosunjust . ὁho- ΘεὸςTheosGod ἐπιλαθέσθαιepilathesthaiHe will not forget τοῦtou- ἔργουergouwork ὑμῶνhymōnyour καὶkaiand τοῦtou- κόπουkopoulabor τῆςtēsthe ἀγάπηςagapēslove ἧςhēs- ἐνεδείξασθεenedeixastheyou have shown εἰςeisfor τὸto- ὄνομαonomaname αὐτοῦautouHis διακονήσαντεςdiakonēsantesas you have ministered τοῖςtoisto the ἁγίοιςhagioissaints καὶkaiand διακονοῦντεςdiakonountescontinue to [do so] .
11ἘπιθυμοῦμενEpithymoumenWe want δὲde- ἕκαστονhekastoneach ὑμῶνhymōnof you τὴνtēn[this] αὐτὴνautēnsame ἐνδείκνυσθαιendeiknysthaito show σπουδὴνspoudēndiligence πρὸςprosin order {to make} τὴνtēn- πληροφορίανplērophoriansure . τῆςtēs[your] ἐλπίδοςelpidoshope ἄχριachrito τέλουςtelous[the very] end ,
12ἵναhinaThen μὴmēvvv νωθροὶnōthroiyou will not be sluggish , γένησθεgenēsthevvv μιμηταὶmimētaiwill imitate δὲdebut τῶνtōnthose who διὰdiathrough πίστεωςpisteōsfaith καὶkaiand μακροθυμίαςmakrothymiaspatience κληρονομούντωνklēronomountōninherit τὰςtas- ἐπαγγελίαςepangeliaswhat has been promised .
13ΤῷTō- γὰρgar[When] ἈβραὰμAbraamto Abraham , ἐπαγγειλάμενοςepangeilamenosmade His promise ὁho- ΘεόςTheosGod ἐπεὶepeisince κατ’kat’by , οὐδενὸςoudenosno one ΕἶχεEichehad μείζονοςmeizonosgreater ὀμόσαιomosaito swear ὀμόσῃomosēswears καθ’kath’by ἑαυτοῦheautouHimself ,
14λέγωνlegōnsaying , ἡhē- μὴνmēn“ {I will} surely εὐλογῶνeulogōnvvv εὐλογήσωeulogēsōbless σεseyou καὶkaiand πληθύνωνplēthynōnmultiply πληθυνῶplēthynō. . . σεseyour [descendants] .”
15καὶkaiAnd οὕτωhoutōso μακροθυμήσαςmakrothymēsasafter waiting patiently , ἐπέτυχεepetukheobtained τῆςtēsthe ἐπαγγελίαςepangeliaspromise .
16ἌνθρωποιAnthrōpoiMen μὴνmēn“ {I will} surely κατὰkataby τοῦtou[someone] μείζονοςmeizonosgreater [than themselves] , ὀμνύουσι,omnuousiswear καὶkaiand πάσηςpasēsall αὐτοῖςautois- ἀντιλογίαςantilogiasargument . πέραςperasto end εἰςeisserves as βεβαίωσινbebaiōsina confirmation ὁho[their] ὅρκοςhorkosoath
17ἐνenvvv ᾧhōSo when περισσότερονperissoteronvery clear βουλόμενοςboulomenoswanted ὁho- ΘεὸςTheosGod ἐπιδεῖξαιepideixaito make τοῖςtoisto the κληρονόμοιςklēronomoisheirs τῆςtēsof the ἐπαγγελίαςepangeliaspromise , τὸtothe ἀμετάθετονametathetonunchanging nature τῆςtēsof βουλῆςboulēspurpose αὐτοῦautouHis ἐμεσίτευσενemesiteusenHe guaranteed [it] ὅρκῳhorkōwith an oath .
18ἵναhinaThus διὰdiaby δύοdyotwo πραγμάτωνpragmatōnthings ἀμεταθέτωνametathetōnunchangeable ἐνenin οἷςhoiswhich ἀδύνατονadynaton[it is] impossible ψεύσασθαιpseusasthaito lie ΘεόνTheon[for] God ἰσχυρὰνischyranstrongly παράκλησινparaklēsinencouraged . ἔχομενechomenWe have οἱhoi- καταφυγόντεςkataphygonteswe who have fled κρατῆσαιkratēsaito take hold τῆςtēsof the προκειμένηςprokeimenēsset before [us] ἐλπίδοςelpidoshope
19ἣνhēn[this hope] ὡςhōsas ἄγκυρανankyranan anchor ἔχομενechomenWe have τῆςtēsfor the ψυχῆςpsychēssoul , ἀσφαλῆasphalēfirm τεte- καὶkaiand βεβαίανbebaiansecure . καὶkai- εἰσερχομένηνeiserchomenēnIt enters εἰςeis. . . τὸtothe ἐσώτερονesōteroninner [sanctuary] τοῦtou[behind] the καταπετάσματοςkatapetasmatoscurtain ,
20ὅπουhopouwhere πρόδρομοςprodromos[our] forerunner ὑπὲρhypervvv ἡμῶνhēmōnon our behalf . εἰσῆλθενeisēlthenhas entered ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus κατὰkatain τὴνtēnthe τάξινtaxinorder ΜελχισέδεκMelchisedekof Melchizedek . ἀρχιερεὺςarchiereusa high priest γενόμενοςgenomenosHe has become εἰςeisvvv τὸνtonvvv αἰῶναaiōnaforever
