3ΚαὶKaiAnd κατηγόρουνkatēgorounbegan to accuse αὐτοῦautouHim οἱhoithe ἀρχιερεῖςarchiereischief priests πολλάpollaof many things . αὐτὸςautoshimself δὲde- οὐδὲνouden. . . . ἀπεκρίνατοapekrinatogave no answer

12ὉHo- δὲde[So] ΠιλᾶτοςPilatosPilate ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisasked πάλινpalinagain , εἶπενeipenhe said , αὐτοῖςautoisto them . 13ΟἱHoi- δὲdeAnd πάλινpalinback , ἔκραξανekraxanthey shouted ΣταύρωσονStaurōson“ Crucify αὐτόνautonHim ! ”
14ὉHo- δὲde- ΠιλᾶτοςPilatosPilate ἔλεγενelegenasked αὐτοῖςautois- . ΤίTi“ What γὰρgar“ Why ? ” ἐποίησεepoiesehas done κακόνkakonevil ΟἱHoi- δὲdeBut περισσοτέρωςperissoterosvvv ἔκραξανekraxanthey shouted ΣταύρωσονStaurōson“ Crucify αὐτόνautonHim ! ”
15ὉHo- δὲdeAnd ΠιλᾶτοςPilatosPilate βουλόμενοςboulomenoswishing τὸto- ὄχλῳochlōcrowd , τῷtōthe ἱκανὸνhikanonsatisfy ποιῆσαιpoiēsaito ἀπέλυσενapelysenreleased αὐτοῖςautoisto them . τὸνton- ΒαραββᾶνBarabbanBarabbas καὶkaiBut παρέδωκεparedokehanded τὸνton- ἸησοῦνIēsoun{he had} Jesus φραγελλώσαςphragellōsasflogged , ἵναhinato σταυρωθῇstaurōthēbe crucified .
16ΟἱHoithe δὲdeThen στρατιῶταιstratiōtaisoldiers ἀπήγαγονapēgagonled [Jesus] away αὐτὸνauton. . . ἔσωesōinto τῆςtēsthe αὐλῆςaulēspalace ὅho(that ἐστιestiis ΠραιτώριονPraitōrion[the] Praetorium ) καὶkaiand συγκαλοῦσινsugkalousincalled ὅληνholēnwhole τὴνtēnthe σπεῖρανspeirancompany {together} .
17καὶkai- ἐνδύουσινenduousinThey dressed αὐτὸνautonHim πορφύρανporphyranin a purple robe , καὶkai- περιτιθέασινperititheasin[and] set [it] on αὐτῷautōHis [head] . πλέξαντεςplexantestwisted together ἀκάνθινονakanthinonof thorns , στέφανονstephanona crown
18καὶkai- ἤρξαντοērxantothey began ἀσπάζεσθαιaspazesthaito salute αὐτόνautonHim : ΧαῖρεChaire“ Hail , ὅho(that ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣBASILEUSKING ΤΩΝTŌNOF THE ΙΟΥΔΑΙΩΝIOUDAIŌNJEWS .
19ΚαὶKai[Along] ἔτυπτονetyptonThey kept striking αὐτοῦautouHis τὴνtēn- κεφαλὴνkephalēnhead καλάμῳkalamōwith a staff καὶkaiand ἐνέπτυονeneptyonspitting on αὐτῷautōHim . καὶkaiAnd τιθέντεςtithentesthey knelt down τὰta. . . γόναταgonata. . . προσεκύνουνprosekynoun[and] bowed αὐτῷautōbefore Him .
20καὶkaiAfter ὅτεhote. . . ἐνέπαιξανenepaixanthey had mocked αὐτῷautōHim , ἐξέδυσανexedysanthey removed αὐτὸνauton- τὴνtēnthe πορφύρανporphyranpurple [robe] καὶkaiand ἐνέδυσανenedysanput αὐτὸνauton- τὰta- ἱμάτιαhimatiaclothes [back] τὰta- ‹ἴδια›idiaown καὶkaiand ἐξάγουσινexagousinthey led Him out αὐτὸνauton. . . ἵναhinato σταυρώσωσινstaurōsōsincrucify αὐτόνautonHim .
21ΚαὶKaiThen ἀγγαρεύουσιaggareuousi[the soldiers] forced [him] παράγοντάparagontawas passing by τιναtina[Now] ΣίμωναSimōnaSimon ΚυρηναῖονKyrēnaionof Cyrene , ἐρχόμενονerchomenonon his way in ἀπ’ap’from ἀγροῦagrouthe country , τὸνtonthe πατέραpaterafather ἈλεξάνδρουAlexandrouof Alexander καὶkaiand ῬούφουRhouphouRufus , ἵναhinato ἄρῃarēcarry τὸνtonthe σταυρὸνstauroncross αὐτοῦautouof [Jesus] .
22ΚαὶKai- φέρουσινpherousinThey brought αὐτὸνauton[Jesus] ἐπὶepito ΓολγοθᾶνGolgothan[called] Golgotha , τόπονtopona place ὅhowhich ἐστιestiis μεθερμηνευόμενον*methermēneuomenonmeans ΚρανίουKraniouof the Skull . τόποςtopos[The] Place
23καὶkaiThere ἐδίδουνedidounthey offered αὐτῷautōHim πιεῖνpieindrink ἐσμυρνισμένονesmyrnismenonmixed with myrrh , οἶνονoinonwine ὅhowhich δὲdebut οὐκoukvvv ἔλαβε.elabeswept over
24ΚαὶKaiAnd ΣταυρώσαντεςStaurōsantesthey had crucified αὐτὸνautonHim . διαμερίζονταιdiamerizontaiThey also divided τὰta- ἱμάτιαhimatiagarments αὐτοῦautouHis βάλλοντεςballontesby casting κλῆρονklēronlots ἐπ’ep’to decide αὐτὰauta- τίςtis[each of them] τίtiwhat ἄρῃarēwould take .
25ἮνĒnIt was δὲde- ὥραhōrahour τρίτηtritē[the] third καὶkaiwhen ἐσταύρωσανestaurōsanthey crucified αὐτόνautonHim .
26καὶkaiAnd ἦνēnvvv ἡhēthe ἐπιγραφὴepigraphēinscribed τῆςtēs- αἰτίαςaitiascharge αὐτοῦautouagainst Him ἐπιγεγραμμένηepigegrammenēread : Ο*HOTHE ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣBASILEUSKING ΤΩΝTŌNOF THE ΙΟΥΔΑΙΩΝIOUDAIŌNJEWS .
27ΚαὶKai[Along] σὺνsynwith αὐτῷautō[Jesus] , σταυροῦσιstaurousithey crucified δύοdyotwo λῃστάςlēstasrobbers , ἕναhenaone ἐκekon δεξιῶνdexiōn[His] right καὶkaiand ἕναhenaone ἐξexon εὐωνύμωνeuōnymōnleft . αὐτοῦautouHis
28ΚαὶKaiAnd ἐπληρώθηeplērōthēit was full , ἡhēthe γραφὴgraphēScripture ἡhēthe λέγουσαlegousaShe declared , καὶkaiAnd μετὰmetaand ἀνόμωνanomōn[the] transgressors .’ ἐλογίσθηelogisthēHe was numbered
29καὶkai. . . , οἱhoithe παραπορευόμενοιparaporeuomenoipassed by ἐβλασφήμουνeblasphēmounheaped abuse on αὐτὸνautonHim , κινοῦντεςkinountesshaking τὰςtas- κεφαλὰςkephalasheads αὐτῶνautōntheir καὶkaiand λέγοντεςlegontessaying , ΟὐὰOua“ Aha ! ὁho- καταλύωνkatalyōnYou who are going to destroy τὸνtonthe ναὸνnaontemple καὶkaiand ἐνenin τρισὶνtrisinthree ἡμέραιςhēmeraisdays , οἰκοδομῶνoikodomōnrebuild [it]
30σῶσονsōson[and] save σεαυτὸνseautonYourself ! ” καὶkai. . . , κατάβαkataba[Jesus] came down ἀπὸapofrom τοῦtouthe σταυροῦstauroucross
31ὉμοίωςHomoiōsIn the same way δὲde- καὶkaiwhen οἱhoithose who ἀρχιερεῖςarchiereischief priests ἐμπαίζοντεςempaizontesmocked [Him] πρὸςprosamong ἀλλήλουςallēlousthemselves , μετὰmetaand τῶνtōn- γραμματέωνgrammateōnscribes ἔλεγονelegonsaying , ἌλλουςAllousothers , ἔσωσενesōsen“ He saved ἑαυτὸνheautonHimself ! οὐouvvv δύναταιdynatai[but] He cannot σῶσαιsōsaisave
32ὁho{Let} the ΧριστὸςChristosChrist , ὁhothe ΒασιλεὺςBasileusKing ἸσραὴλIsraēlof Israel , καταβάτωkatabatōcome down νῦνnynnow ἀπὸapofrom τοῦtouthe σταυροῦstauroucross , ἵναhinaso that ἴδωμενidōmenwe may see καὶkaiand πιστεύσωμενpisteusōmenbelieve ! ” αὐτῷautōHim ΚαὶKai- οἱhoithose who συνεσταυρωμένοιsynestaurōmenoiwere crucified αὐτῷautōHim ὠνείδιζονōneidizonberated αὐτόνautonHim .
33γενομένηςgenomenēs- δέdeAnd ὥραςhōrashour ἕκτηςhektēsFrom [the] sixth σκότοςskotosdarkness ἐγένετοegenetocame ἐφ’eph’over ὅληνholēnall τὴνtēnthe γῆνgēnland . ἕωςheōsuntil ὥραςhōrashour ἐνάτηςenatēs[the] ninth
34ΚαὶKai- τῇtēAt the ὥρᾳhōrahour , τῇtēAt the ἐνάτῃenatēninth ἐβόησενeboēsencried out ὁho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus φωνῇphōnēin a loud voice , μεγάλῃmegalēvvv λέγωνlegōnsaying , ἘλωῒElōiEloi , ἘλωῒElōiEloi , λιμᾶlimalema σαβαχθάνι*sabachthanisabachthani ? ” ὅhowhich ἐστιestiis μεθερμηνευόμενονmethermēneuomenonmeans , ὉHo- ΘεόςTheosGod , μουmouMy ὁho- ΘεόςTheosGod , μουmouMy εἰςeiswhy τίti. . . μεmeMe ?” ἐγκατέλιπέςenkatelipeshave You forsaken
35ΚαίKaiWhen τινεςtinessome τῶνtōnof those παρεστηκότωνparestēkotōnstanding nearby ἀκούσαντεςakousantesheard [this] , ἔλεγονelegonthey said , ἼδεIde“ Behold , ἨλίανĒlianElijah . ” φωνεῖphōneiHe is calling
36ΔραμὼνDramōnran δέdeAnd εἰςeiswhy ΚαίKaiWhen γεμίσαςgemisasfilled σπόγγονspongona sponge ὄξουςoxouswith sour wine . περιθεὶςperitheisHe put [it] on τῇtēAt the καλάμῳkalamōa reed ἐπότιζενepotizenand held it up for [Jesus] to drink αὐτόνauton. . . , λέγωνlegōnsaying , ἌφετεAphete“ Leave [Him] alone . ἴδωμενidōmenLet us see εἰeiif ἔρχεταιerchetaicomes ἨλίαςĒliasElijah καθελεῖνkatheleinto take Him down αὐτόνauton. . . . ”
37ὉHo- δὲdeBut ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἀφεὶςapheislet out φωνὴνphōnēna loud cry μεγάληνmegalēnvvv ἐξέπνευσε.exepneuseHe breathed His last .
38ΚαὶKaiAnd τὸtothe καταπέτασμαkatapetasmaveil τοῦtouof the ναοῦnaoutemple ἐσχίσθηeschisthēwas torn εἰςeisin δύοdyotwo ἀπὸapofrom ἄνωθενanōthentop ἕωςheōsto κάτωkatōbottom .
39ἸδὼνIdōnsaw δὲdeWhen ὁhothe κεντυρίωνkentyriōncenturion ὁho- παρεστηκὼςparestēkōsstanding there ἐξexvvv ἐναντίαςenantiasin front of αὐτοῦautou[Jesus] ὅτιhoti- οὕτωouto[this] κράξαςkraxascried out ἐξέπνευσενexepneusenHe had breathed His last , εἶπενeipenhe said , ἈληθῶςAlēthōs“ Truly ὁho- ἄνθρωποςanthrōposman οὗτοςhoutosthis ΥἱὸςHuios[the] Son ἦνēnwas ΘεοῦTheouof God ! ”
40ἮσανĒsanthere were δὲdeAnd καὶkaialso γυναῖκεςgynaikeswomen ἀπὸapofrom μακρόθενmakrothena distance . θεωροῦσαιtheōrousaiwatching ἐνenAmong αἷςhaisthem ἐνenAmong καὶkai[were] ΜαρίαMariaMary ἡhē- ΜαγδαληνὴMagdalēnēMagdalene , καὶkai- ΜαρίαMariaMary ἡhēthe τοῦtouthe ἸακώβουIakōbouof James τοῦtouthe μικροῦmikrouyounger καὶkaiand ἸωσῆioseJesus . μήτηρmētērmother καὶkai- ΣαλώμηSalōmēSalome .
41αἳhai[These women] καὶkaiand ὅτεhotewhile ἦνēnHe was ἦνēnHe was τῇtē- ΓαλιλαίᾳGalilaiaGalilee , ἠκολούθουνēkolouthounhad followed αὐτῷautō[Jesus] καὶkaiand διηκόνουνdiēkonounministered αὐτῷautōto Him καὶkaiand ἄλλαιallaiother πολλαὶpollaimany αἱhai[women] who συναναβᾶσαιsynanabasaihad come up αὐτῷautōwith Him . εἰςeisto ἹεροσόλυμαHierosolymaJerusalem
42ΚαὶKaiNow ἤδηēdēalready ὀψίαςopsiasevening . γενομένηςgenomenēsit was ἐπεὶepeiSince ἦνēnit was ΠαρασκευήParaskeuēPreparation Day ὅho(that ἐστιestiis προσάββατονprosabbaton[the day] before the Sabbath ) ,
43ἐλθὼνelthōnwent ἸωσὴφIōsēphJoseph ὁho- ἀπὸapoof ἉριμαθαίαςHarimathaiasArimathea , εὐσχήμωνeuschēmōn[a] prominent βουλευτήςbouleutēsCouncil member ὃςhoswho καὶkai. . . αὐτὸςautoshimself ἦνēnwas προσδεχόμενοςprosdechomenoswaiting for τὴνtēnthe βασιλείανbasileiankingdom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God , τολμήσαςtolmēsasboldly εἰσέλθῃeiselthēwill never enter πρὸςprosto ΠιλᾶτονPilatonPilate καὶkai- ᾐτήσατοētēsatoto ask for τὸtothe σῶμαsōmabody τοῦtou- ἸησοῦIēsouof Jesus .
44ὉHo- δὲde- ΠιλᾶτοςPilatosPilate ἐθαύμασενethaumasenwas surprised [to hear] εἰeithat ἤδηēdēvvv τέθνηκε,tethnekeis dead , ” καὶkaiso προσκαλεσάμενοςproskalesamenoshe summoned τὸνtonthe κεντυρίωναkentyriōnacenturion ἐπηρώτησενepērōtēsento ask αὐτὸνauton- εἰeiif πάλαιpalai. . . . ἀπέθανε·apethaneshe is not dead
45καὶkai- γνοὺςgnousWhen [Pilate] had confirmed [it] ἀπὸapowith τοῦtouthe κεντυρίωνοςkentyriōnoscenturion , ἐδωρήσατοedōrēsatohe granted τὸtothe σῶμαsōmabody τὸtothe ἸωσὴφIōsēphJoseph
