2ὩμοιώθηHōmoiōthēis like ἡhē“ The βασιλείαbasileiakingdom τῶνtōnof οὐρανῶνouranōnheaven ἀνθρώπῳanthrōpōvvv βασιλεῖbasileia king ὅστιςhostiswho ἐποίησεepoiesehas done γάμουςgamousa wedding banquet τῷtōfor υἱῷhuiōson . αὐτοῦautouhis
3καὶkai- ἀπέστειλεapesteileHe sent them out τοὺςtous- δούλουςdoulousservants αὐτοῦautouhis καλέσαιkalesaito call τοὺςtousthose κεκλημένουςkeklēmenoushe had invited εἰςeisto τοὺςtousthe γάμουςgamousbanquet , καὶkaibut οὐκouk. . . ἤθελονēthelonthey refused ἐλθεῖνeltheinto come .
4ΠάλινPalinAgain , ἀπέστειλενapesteilenhe sent ἄλλουςallousother δούλουςdoulousservants λέγωνlegōn[and] said , ΕἴπατεEipate‘ Tell τοῖςtoisthose who κεκλημένοιςkeklēmenoishave been invited ἸδοὺIdouthat τὸto- ἄριστόνaristondinner . μουmouMy ἡτοίμασα,etoimasato prepare οἱhoi- ταῦροίtauroioxen μουmouMy καὶkaiand τὰta- σιτιστὰsitistafattened cattle τεθυμέναtethymenahave been killed , καὶkaiand πάνταpantaeverything [is] ἕτοιμαhetoimaready . δεῦτεdeuteCome εἰςeisto τοὺςtousthe γάμουςgamouswedding banquet . ’
5ΟἱHoi- δὲdeBut ἀμελήσαντεςamelēsantesthey paid no attention ἀπῆλθονapēlthon[and] went away , ὃςhosone μὲνmen- εἰςeisto τὸνton- ἴδιονidionhis ἀγρόνagronfield , ὃςhosanother δὲde- εἰςeisto τὴνtēn- ἐμπορίανemporianbusiness . αὐτοῦautouhis
6οἱhoiThe δὲde- λοιποὶloipoirest κρατήσαντεςkratēsantesseized τοὺςtous- δούλουςdoulousservants , αὐτοῦautouhis ὕβρισανhybrisanmistreated [them] , καὶkaiand ἀπέκτεινανapekteinankilled [them] .
7ἀκούσαςakousashears [My words] δὲde- ὉHoThe βασιλεὺςbasileusking ἐκεῖνοςekeinosthat ὠργίσθηōrgisthēwas enraged , καὶkaiand πέμψαςpempsashe sent τὰta- στρατεύματαstrateumatatroops αὐτοῦautouhis ἀπολέσῃapolesēloses τοὺςtous- φονεῖςphoneismurderers ἐκείνουςekeinousthose καὶkaiand τὴνtēn- πόλινpolincity . αὐτῶνautōntheir ἐνέπρησε.enepreseburn
8τότεtoteThen λέγειlegeihe said τοῖςtoisto δούλοιςdouloisservants , αὐτοῦautouhis ὉHoThe μὲνmen‘ - γάμοςgamoswedding banquet ἕτοιμόςhetoimosready , ἐστινestinis οἱhoithose δὲdebut κεκλημένοιkeklēmenoiI invited οὐκouknot ἦσανēsanwere ἄξιοιaxioiworthy .
9πορεύεσθεporeuestheGo οὖνountherefore ἐπὶepito τὰςtasthe διεξόδουςdiexodouscrossroads τῶνtōn. . . ὁδῶνhodōn. . . καὶkaiand ὅσουςhosousas many as ἐὰνean. . . εὕρητεheurēteyou can find . ’ καλέσατεkalesateinvite εἰςeisto τοὺςtousthe γάμουςgamousbanquet
10ΚαὶKaiSo ἐξελθόντεςexelthonteswent out οἱhoithe δοῦλοιdouloiservants ἐκεῖνοιekeinoi- εἰςeisinto τὰςtasthe ὁδοὺςhodousstreets συνήγαγονsynēgagon[and] gathered πάνταςpantaseveryone ὅσουςhosousas many as εὗρονheuronthey could find , πονηρούςponērousevil τεteboth καὶkaiand ἀγαθούςagathousgood , καὶkaiand ἐπλήσθηeplēsthēwas filled ὁhothe γάμος*gamoswedding hall ἀνακειμένωνanakeimenōnwith guests .
11ΕἰσελθὼνEiselthōncame in δὲdeBut when ὁhothe βασιλεὺςbasileusking θεάσασθαιtheasasthaito see τοὺςtousthe ἀνακειμένουςanakeimenousguests , εἶδενeidenhe spotted ἐκεῖekei- ἄνθρωπονanthrōpona man οὐκouk[who was] not ἐνδεδυμένονendedymenondressed ἔνδυμαendymaclothes . γάμουgamouin wedding
12καὶkai- λέγειlegeihe asked αὐτῷautō- , ἙταῖρεHetaire‘ Friend , ’ πῶςpōs‘ how εἰσῆλθεςeisēlthesdid you get in ὧδεhōdehere μὴmēvvv ἔχωνechōnwithout ἔνδυμαendymaclothes ? ’ γάμουgamouwedding ὉHo- δὲdeBut ἐφιμώθηephimōthē[the man] was speechless .
13ΤότεToteThen εἶπενeipentold ὁhothe βασιλεὺςbasileusking τοῖςtoisthe διακόνοιςdiakonoisservants , ΔήσαντεςDēsantes‘ Tie αὐτοῦautouhim πόδαςpodasfoot , καὶkaiand χεῖραςcheirashand ἌρατεArate‘ Take αὐτὸνauton. . . καὶkaiand ἐκβάλετεekbalete[and] throw him εἰςeisinto τὸtothe σκότοςskotosdarkness , τὸto- ἐξώτερονexōteronouter ἐκεῖekei[where] there ἔσταιestaiwill be ὁho- κλαυθμὸςklauthmosweeping καὶkaiand ὁho- βρυγμὸςbrygmosgnashing τῶνtōnof ὀδόντωνodontōnteeth . ’
14ΠολλοὶPolloimany γάρgarFor εἰσιeisiare κλητοὶklētoicalled , ὀλίγοιoligoifew [are] δὲdebut ἐκλεκτοίeklektoichosen . ”
15ΤότεToteThen πορευθέντεςporeuthenteswent out οἱhoithe ΦαρισαῖοιPharisaioiPharisees συμβούλιονsymboulion. . . ἔλαβονelabon[and] conspired ὅπωςhopōs. . . αὐτὸνauton[Jesus] παγιδεύσωσινpagideusōsinto trap ἐνenin λόγῳlogōHis words .
16καὶkai- ἀποστέλλουσινapostellousinThey sent αὐτῷautōto Him τοὺςtous- μαθητὰςmathētasdisciples αὐτῶνautōntheir μετὰmetaalong with τῶνtōnthe ἩρῳδιανῶνHērōdianōnHerodians . λέγοντες*legontesthey said , ΔιδάσκαλεDidaskale“ Teacher , ” οἴδαμενoidamen“ we know ὅτιhotithat ἀληθὴςalēthēshonest εἶeiYou are καὶkaiand [that] τὴνtēnthe ὁδὸνhodonway τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God ἐνenin accordance with ἀληθείᾳalētheiathe truth . διδάσκειςdidaskeisYou teach καὶkaiand [that] οὐouvvv μέλειmeleiseek favor σοιsoiYou περὶperifrom οὐδενόςoudenosno one , οὐouvvv γὰρgarbecause βλέπειςblepeisYou pay no attention εἰςeisto πρόσωπονprosōponexternal appearance ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouof Man
17εἰπὲeipesay οὖνounSo ἡμῖνhēminus τίtiwhat σοιsoiYou δοκεῖdokeithink : ἔξεστιexestiis unlawful δοῦναιdounaito pay κῆνσονkēnsontaxes ΚαίσαριKaisarito Caesar ἢēor οὔounot ? ”
18ΓνοὺςGnousknew δὲdeBut ὁho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus τὴνtēn- πονηρίανponērianevil intent αὐτῶνautōntheir εἰπὲeipesay ΤίTiwhy μεmeMe ? πειράζετεpeirazeteare you testing ὑποκριταίhypokritai“ You hypocrites ,
19ἐπιδείξατέepideixateShow μοιmoiMe τὸtothe νόμισμαnomismacoin τοῦtouused for κήνσουkēnsouthe tax . ” ΟἱHoi- δὲdeAnd προσήνεγκανprosēnenkanthey brought αὐτῷautōHim δηνάριονdēnariona denarius .
20ΚαὶKai- λέγειlegeiHe asked αὐτοῖςautois. . . , ΤίνοςTinos“ Whose ἡhē- εἰκὼνeikōnimage αὕτηhautē[is] this , ” ΚαὶKai- ἡhē- ἐπιγραφήepigraphēinscription ? ”
21ΛέγουσινLegousinthey answered ‹αὐτῷ›autō. . . . ΚαίσαροςKaisaros“ Caesar’s , ” ΤότεTote- λέγειlegei[Jesus] told αὐτοῖςautoisthem , ἈπόδοτεApodote“ Give οὖνounSo τὰtawhat [is] ΚαίσαροςKaisarosCaesar’s , ΚαίσαριKaisarito Caesar καὶkaiand τὰtawhat [is] τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouGod’s . ” τῷtō- ΘεῷTheōto God
22καὶkaiand ἀκούσαντεςakousanteswhen they heard [this] , ἐθαύμασανethaumasanthey were amazed . καὶkaiSo ἀφέντεςaphentesthey left αὐτὸνautonHim ἀπῆλθονapēlthon[and] went away ,
23ἐνenin ἐκείνῃekeinēThat τῇtē[same] ἡμέρᾳhēmeraday προσῆλθονprosēlthoncame αὐτῷautōto [Jesus] ΣαδδουκαῖοιSaddoukaioi[the] Sadducees , ΟἱHoi- λέγοντεςlegonteswho say μὴmēno εἶναιeinaithere is ἀνάστασινanastasinresurrection , καὶkaiand ἐπηρώτησανepērōtēsanquestioned αὐτὸνautonHim .
24λέγοντεςlegontesthey said , ΔιδάσκαλεDidaskale“ Teacher , ” ΜωσῆςmosesMoses εἶπενeipendeclared that ἘάνEanif τιςtisa man ἀποθάνῃapothanēdies μὴmēwithout ἔχωνechōnhaving τέκναteknachildren , ἐπιγαμβρεύσειepigambreuseiis to marry ὁho- ἀδελφὸςadelphosbrother αὐτοῦautou- τὴνtēnthe γυναῖκαgynaikawidow αὐτοῦautou- καὶkaiand ἀναστήσειanastēseiraise up σπέρμαspermaoffspring τῷtōfor ἀδελφῷadelphō[him] . αὐτοῦautou-
25ἦσανēsanthere were δὲdeNow παρ’par’among ἡμῖνhēminus . ἑπτὰheptaseven ἀδελφοίadelphoibrothers καὶkai- ὁhoThe πρῶτοςprōtosfirst [one] γαμήσαςgamesasmarries ἐτελεύτησε,eteleutesehas just died , ” καὶkaiand μὴmēwithout ἔχωνechōnhaving σπέρμαspermachildren . ἀφῆκεaphekeHe did not allow τὴνtēn- γυναῖκαgynaikawife αὐτοῦautouhis τῷtōto ἀδελφῷadelphōbrother . αὐτοῦautouhis
26ὁμοίωςhomoiōsThe same thing happened to καὶkai. . . ὁhothe δεύτεροςdeuterossecond καὶkaiand ὁho- τρίτοςtritosthird [brothers] , ἕωςheōsdown to τῶνtōnthe ἑπτάheptaseventh .
27ὕστερονhysteronlast δὲdeAnd πάντωνpantōnof all , ἀπέθανεapethaneshe is not dead καὶkaiand ἡhēthe γυνήgynēwoman
28ἐνenIn τῇtēthe οὖνounthen , ἀναστάσειanastaseiresurrection , τίνοςtinoswhose τῶνtōnof the ἑπτὰheptaseven ? ἔσταιestaiwill she be ἡhēthe γυνήgynēwoman πάντεςpantesall of them γὰρgarFor ἔσχονeschonwere married αὐτήνautēnto her . ”
29ἈποκριθεὶςApokritheisanswered δὲde- ὁho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἶπενeipen- αὐτοῖςautois- , ΠλανᾶσθεPlanasthe“ You are mistaken [because] μὴmēvvv εἰδότεςeidotesyou do not know τὰςtasthe γραφὰςgraphasScriptures μηδὲmēdeor τὴνtēnthe δύναμινdynaminpower τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God .
30ἐνenIn γὰρgar- τῇtēthe ἀναστάσειanastaseiresurrection , οὔτεoutevvv γαμοῦσινgamousin[people] will neither marry οὔτεoutenor ἐκγαμίζονται,ekgamizontaiare given in marriage . ἀλλ’all’Instead , ὡςhōslike ἄγγελοιangeloi[the] angels ΘεοῦTheouof God . ἐνenIn οὐρανῷouranōheaven . εἰσι.eisiare
31περὶpericoncerning δὲdeBut τῆςtēsthe ἀναστάσεωςanastaseōsresurrection τῶνtōnof the νεκρῶνnekrōndead , οὐκoukvvv ἀνέγνωτεanegnōtehave you not read τὸtowhat ῥηθὲνrhēthensaid ὑμῖνhyminto you ὑπὸhypo- τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouGod λέγοντοςlegontos- :
32ἘγώEgō‘ I εἰμιeimiam ὁhothe ΘεὸςTheosGod ἈβραὰμAbraamof Abraham , καὶkai- ὁhothe ΘεὸςTheosGod ἸσαὰκIsaakof Isaac , καὶkaiand ὁhothe ΘεὸςTheosGod ἸακώβIakōbof Jacob ’ ? οὐκouknot ἔστινestinHe is ὁhothe ΘεὸςTheosGod ΘεὸςTheosGod νεκρῶνnekrōnof [the] dead , ἀλλὰallabut ζώντωνzōntōnof [the] living . ”
33ΚαὶKaiWhen ἀκούσαντεςakousantesheard [this] , οἱhoithe ὄχλοιochloicrowds ἐξεπλήσσοντοexeplēssontothey were astonished ἐπὶepiat τῇtē- διδαχῇdidachēteaching . αὐτοῦautouHis
34ΟἱHoithe δὲdeAnd [when] ΦαρισαῖοιPharisaioiPharisees ἀκούσαντεςakousantesheard ὅτιhotithat ἐφίμωσεephimose[Jesus] had silenced τοὺςtousthe ΣαδδουκαίουςSaddoukaiousSadducees , συνήχθησανsynēchthēsanthey themselves gathered ἐπὶepitogether . τὸto. . . αὐτόauto. . .
35καὶkai- ἐπηρώτησενepērōtēsenwith a question : εἷςheisOne ἐξexof αὐτῶνautōnthem , νομικὸςnomikosan expert in the law , πειράζωνpeirazōntested αὐτόνautonHim καὶkai- λέγωνlegōn-
36ΔιδάσκαλεDidaskale“ Teacher , ποίαpoiawhich ἐντολὴentolēcommandment μεγάληmegalē[is the] greatest ἐνenin τῷtōthe νόμῳnomōLaw ? ”
37ὉHo- δὲde- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἔφηephē[Jesus] declared αὐτῷautō- , ἈγαπήσειςAgapēseis“‘ Love κύριονkyrion[the] Lord τὸνton- ΘεόνTheonGod σουsouyour ἐνenwith ὅλῃholēall τῇtē- καρδίᾳkardiaheart σουsouyour καὶkaiand ἐνenwith ὅλῃholēall τῇtē- ψυχῇpsychēsoul σουsouyour καὶkaiand ἐνenwith ὅλῃholēall τῇtē- διανοίᾳdianoiamind .’ σουsouyour
39δευτέραdeutera[the] second ‹δὲ›deAnd ὁμοίαhomoia[is] like αὐτῇautēit : ἈγαπήσειςAgapēseis‘ Love τὸνton- πλησίονplēsionneighbor σουsouyour ὡςhōsas σεαυτόνseautonyourself .’
40ἐνenon ταύταιςtautaisthese ταῖςtais- δυσὶνdysintwo ἐντολαῖςentolaiscommandments . ” ὅλοςholosAll ὁhothe νόμοςnomosLaw καὶkaiand οἱhoithe προφῆταιprophētaiProphets κρέμανται.kremantaihang
41ΣυνηγμένωνSynēgmenōnwere assembled , δὲdeWhile τῶνtōnthe ΦαρισαίωνPharisaiōnPharisees ἐπηρώτησενepērōtēsenquestioned αὐτοὺςautousthem : ὁho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus
42λέγωνlegōn- ΤίTi“ What ὑμῖνhymin{do} you δοκεῖdokeithink περὶperiabout τοῦtouthe ΧριστοῦChristouChrist ? τίνοςtinosWhose υἱόςhuiosson ἐστι;estiis ΛέγουσινLegousinthey answered αὐτῷautō- . ΤοῦTou“ - ΔαυίδDauidDavid’s , ”
43ΛέγειLegei[Jesus] said αὐτοῖςautoisto them , ΠῶςPōs“ How οὖνounthen ΔαυὶδDauid{does} David ἐνenin ΠνεύματιPneumati[the] Spirit ΚύριονKyrion‘ Lord ’ ? καλεῖkaleicall αὐτὸνautonHim λέγωνlegōn[For] he says :
44ΕἶπενEipensaid ὁho- ΚύριοςKyrios‘ The Lord τῷtōto ΚυρίῳKyriōLord , μουmoumy ΚάθουKathou“ Sit ἐκekat δεξιῶνdexiōnright hand μουmouMy ἝωςHeōsuntil ἂνan. . . θῶthōI put τοὺςtous- ἐχθρούςechthrousenemies σουsouYour ὙποπόδιονHypopodiona footstool τῶνtōn- ποδῶνpodōnfeet .”’ σουsouYour
45ΕἰEiif οὖνounSo ΔαυὶδDauidDavid καλεῖkaleicalls αὐτὸνautonHim ΚύριονKyrion‘ Lord , ’ πῶςpōshow υἱὸςhuiosson ? ” αὐτοῦautou[David’s] ἐστι;estiis
46ΚαὶKai- οὐδεὶςoudeisNo one ἐδύνατοedynatowas able αὐτῷautō- ἀποκριθῆναιapokrithēnaito answer λόγονlogona word , οὐδὲoude[and] ἐτόλμησέetolmesedared τιςtis[no one] ἀπ’ap’from ἐκείνηςekeinēsthat τῆςtēs- ἡμέραςhēmerasday [on] ἐπερωτῆσαιeperōtēsaito question αὐτὸνautonHim οὐκέτιouketi[any] further .
