1ΠαῦλοςPaulosPaul , δοῦλοςdoulosa servant ἸησοῦIēsouJesus , ΧριστοῦChristouof Christ κλητὸςklētoscalled [to be] ἀπόστολοςapostolos[an] apostle , ἀφωρισμένοςaphōrismenos[and] set apart εἰςeisfor εὐαγγέλιονeuangelion[the] gospel ΘεοῦTheouof God —
2ὃho[the gospel] προεπηγγείλατοproepēngeilatoHe promised beforehand διὰdiathrough τῶνtōn- προφητῶνprophētōnprophets αὐτοῦautouHis ἐνenin γραφαῖςgraphaisScriptures , ἁγίαιςhagiais[the] Holy
3περὶperiregarding τοῦtou- ΥἱοῦHuiouSon , αὐτοῦautouHis τοῦtou- γενομένουgenomenouwas a descendant ἐκek. . . σπέρματοςspermatos. . . ΔαυὶδDauidof David κατὰkataaccording to σάρκαsarka[the] flesh ,
4τοῦtou[and] who ὁρισθέντοςhoristhentoswas declared ΥἱοῦHuiou[to be the] Son ΘεοῦTheouof God ἐνenwith δυνάμειdynameipower κατὰkatathrough πνεῦμαpneuma[the] Spirit ἁγιωσύνηςhagiōsynēsof holiness ἐξexby ἀναστάσεωςanastaseōs[His] resurrection νεκρῶνnekrōn[from the] dead : ἸησοῦIēsouJesus ΧριστοῦChristouChrist τοῦtou- ΚυρίουKyriouLord . ἡμῶνhēmōnour
5δι’di’Through οὗhou[Him] ἐλάβομενelabomenwe received χάρινcharingrace καὶkaiand ἀποστολὴνapostolēnapostleship εἰςeisto call ὑπακοὴνhypakoēn[to the] obedience πίστεωςpisteōsthat comes from faith . ἐνenamong πᾶσιpasiall τοῖςtois- ἔθνεσινethnesinGentiles ὑπὲρhyper[and] on behalf of τοῦtou- ὀνόματοςonomatosname , αὐτοῦautouHis
6ἐνenamong οἷςhoisthose who are ἐστεesteare καὶkaialso ὑμεῖςhymeis[And] you κλητοὶklētoicalled ἸησοῦIēsou[to belong to] Jesus ΧριστοῦChristouChrist .
7πᾶσιpasiall τοῖςtois- οὖσινousin- ἐνenin ῬώμῃRhōmēRome ἀγαπητοῖςagapētoiswho are loved ΘεοῦTheouby God κλητοῖςklētois[and] called to be ἁγίοιςhagioissaints : ΧάριςCharisGrace ὑμῖνhyminto you καὶkaiand εἰρήνηeirēnēpeace ἀπὸapofrom ΘεοῦTheouGod ΠατρὸςPatrosFather ἡμῶνhēmōnour καὶkaiand ΚυρίουKyriou[the] Lord ἸησοῦIēsouJesus ΧριστοῦChristouChrist .
8ΠρῶτονPrōtonFirst μὲνmen- , εὐχαριστῶeucharistōI thank τῷtō- ΘεῷTheōGod μουmoumy διὰdiathrough ἸησοῦIēsouJesus ΧριστοῦChristouChrist ὑπὲρhyper[and] on behalf of πάντωνpantōnall ὑμῶνhymōnof you , ὅτιhotibecause ἡhē- πίστιςpistisfaith ὑμῶνhymōnyour καταγγέλλεταιkatangelletaiis being proclaimed ἐνenover ὅλῳholōall τῷtōthe κόσμῳkosmōworld .
9μάρτυςmartyswitness γάρgar- μουmoumy ἐστινestinis ᾧhōwhom ΘεόςTheosGod , ᾧhōwhom λατρεύωlatreuōI serve ἐνenwith τῷtō- πνεύματίpneumatispirit μουmoumy ἐνenwith τῷtō- εὐαγγελίῳeuangeliōgospel τοῦtouof ΥἱοῦHuiouSon , αὐτοῦautouHis ὡςhōshow ἀδιαλείπτωςadialeiptōsconstantly μνείανmneianI remember ὑμῶνhymōnyou ποιοῦμαιpoioumaivvv
10πάντοτεpantoteat all times , ἐπὶepiin τῶνtōn- προσευχῶνproseuchōnprayers μουmoumy δεόμενοςdeomenosasking εἴeithat πωςpōs. . . ἤδηēdēnow ποτὲpoteat last εὐοδωθήσομαιeuodōthēsomaiI may succeed ἐνenby τῷtō- θελήματιthelēmatiwill τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouGod’s ἐλθεῖνeltheinin coming πρὸςprosto ὑμᾶςhymasyou .
11ἐπιποθῶepipothōI long γὰρgarFor ἰδεῖνideinto see ὑμᾶςhymasyou ἵναhinaso that τιtisome μεταδῶmetadōI may impart χάρισμαcharismagift ὑμῖνhyminto you πνευματικὸνpneumatikonspiritual εἰςeisto τὸto- στηριχθῆναιstērichthēnaistrengthen ὑμᾶςhymasyou ,
12τοῦτοtoutothat δέde- ἐστίestiI have συμπαρακληθῆναιsymparaklēthēnaimay be mutually encouraged ἐνen. . . ὑμῖνhymin. . . διὰdiaby τῆςtēs- ἐνen- ἀλλήλοιςallēloiseach other’s πίστεωςpisteōsfaith . ὑμῶνhymōnyou τεte[that] καὶkaiand ἐμοῦemouI
13ΟὐOuvvv θέλωthelōI do not want δὲde- ὑμᾶςhymasyou ἀγνοεῖνagnoeinto be unaware , ἀδελφοίadelphoibrothers , ὅτιhotihow πολλάκιςpollakisoften προεθέμηνproethemēnI planned ἐλθεῖνeltheinto come πρὸςprosto ὑμᾶςhymasyou καὶkai([but] ἐκωλύθηνekōlythēnhave been prevented [from visiting] ἄχριachriuntil τοῦtouvvv δεῦροdeuronow) , ἵναhinain order that τινὰtinaa καρπὸνkarponharvest σχῶschōI might have καὶkai- , ἐνenamong ὑμῖνhyminyou καθὼςkathōsas καὶkaijust ἐνen[I have had] among τοῖςtoisthe λοιποῖςloipoisother ἔθνεσινethnesinGentiles .
14Ἕλλησίellesito Greeks τεteboth καὶkaiand ΒαρβάροιςBarbaroisnon-Greeks , σοφοῖςsophoisto [the] wise τεteboth καὶkaiand ἀνοήτοιςanoētois[the] foolish . ὀφειλέτηςopheiletēsobligated εἰμίeimiI am
15οὕτωhoutōso τὸto- κατ’kat’- ἐμὲemeI πρόθυμονprothymonam [so] eager καὶkaialso ὑμῖνhyminto you τοῖςtoiswho [are] ἐνenin ῬώμῃRhōmēRome . εὐαγγελίσασθαιeuangelisasthaito preach the gospel
16ΟὐOuvvv γὰρgar- ἐπαισχύνομαιepaischynomaiI am not ashamed of τὸtothe εὐαγγέλιονeuangeliongospel , τοῦtouvvv ΧριστοῦChristouChrist δύναμιςdynamis[the] power γὰρgarbecause ΘεοῦTheouof God ἐστινestinit is εἰςeisfor σωτηρίανsōtēriansalvation παντὶpantito everyone τῷtōwho πιστεύοντιpisteuontibelieves , ἸουδαίῳIoudaiōto [the] Jew , τεte- πρῶτονprōtonfirst καὶkaithen ἝλληνιHellēnito [the] Greek .
17δικαιοσύνηdikaiosynē[the] righteousness γὰρgarFor ΘεοῦTheouof God ἐνen- αὐτῷautō[the gospel] ἀποκαλύπτεταιapokalyptetaireveals ἐκek[that comes] by πίστεωςpisteōsfaith [from start] εἰςeisto πίστινpistin[finish] , καθὼςkathōsjust as γέγραπταιgegraptaiit is written : ὉHoThe δὲde“ - δίκαιοςdikaiosrighteous ἐκekby πίστεωςpisteōsfaith .” ζήσεταιzēsetaiwill live
18ἈποκαλύπτεταιApokalyptetaiis being revealed γὰρgar- ὀργὴorgē[The] wrath ΘεοῦTheouof God ἀπ’ap’from οὐρανοῦouranouheaven ἐπὶepiagainst πᾶσανpasanall ἀσέβειανasebeian[the] godlessness καὶkaiand ἀδικίανadikianwickedness ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnof men τῶνtōnwho τὴνtēnthe ἀλήθειανalētheiantruth ἐνenby ἀδικίᾳadikia[their] wickedness . κατεχόντωνkatechontōnsuppress
19διότιdiotiFor τὸto[what may be] γνωστὸνgnōstonknown τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheou[about] God φανερόνphaneronplain ἐστινestinis ἐνento αὐτοῖςautoisthem , ὁho- γὰρgarbecause θεὸςtheosGod αὐτοῖςautoisto them . ἐφανέρωσε.ephanerosehas made [it] plain
20τὰta- γὰρgarFor ἀόραταaoratainvisible qualities , αὐτοῦautou[God’s] ἀπὸaposince κτίσεωςktiseōs[the] creation κόσμουkosmouof [the] world τοῖςtoisfrom ποιήμασιpoiemasiHis workmanship , νοούμεναnooumenabeing understood καθορᾶταιkathorataihave been clearly seen , ἥhē- τεte- ἀΐδιοςaidioseternal αὐτοῦautouHis δύναμιςdynamispower καὶkaiand θειότηςtheiotēsdivine nature , εἰςeisso that τὸto- εἶναιeinaiare αὐτοὺςautous[men] ἀναπολογήτουςanapologētouswithout excuse .
21ΔιότιDiotiFor γνόντεςgnontesalthough they knew τὸνton- ΘεὸνTheonGod , οὐχouch. . . ὡςhōsas ΘεὸνTheonGod ἐδόξασανedoxasanthey neither glorified [Him] ἢē[nor] ηὐχαρίστησανēucharistēsangave thanks [to Him] , ἀλλ’all’Instead , ἐματαιώθησανemataiōthēsanthey became futile ἐνenin τοῖςtois- διαλογισμοῖςdialogismoisthinking αὐτῶνautōntheir καὶkaiand ἐσκοτίσθηeskotisthēdarkened ἡhē- ἀσύνετοςasynetosfoolish αὐτῶνautōnin their καρδίαkardiahearts .
22φάσκοντεςphaskontesAlthough they claimed εἶναιeinaito be σοφοὶsophoiwise , ἐμωράνθησανemōranthēsanthey became fools ,
23καὶkaiand ἤλλαξανēllaxanexchanged τὴνtēnthe δόξανdoxanglory τοῦtouof the ἀφθάρτουaphthartouimmortal ΘεοῦTheouGod ἐνenfor ὁμοιώματιhomoiōmativvv εἰκόνοςeikonosimages φθαρτοῦphthartouof mortal ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouman καὶkaiand πετεινῶνpeteinōnbirds καὶkaiand τετραπόδωνtetrapodōnanimals καὶkaiand ἑρπετῶνherpetōnreptiles .
24ΔιὸDioTherefore καὶkaiand παρέδωκενparedōkengave them over αὐτοὺςautous. . . ὁho- ΘεὸςTheosGod ἐνenin ταῖςtaisthe ἐπιθυμίαιςepithymiaisdesires τῶνtōnof καρδιῶνkardiōnhearts αὐτῶνautōntheir εἰςeisto ἀκαθαρσίανakatharsianimpurity τοῦtoufor the ἀτιμάζεσθαιatimazesthaidishonoring τὰta- σώματαsōmatabodies αὐτῶνautōnof their ἐνenwith αὐτοῖςautois[one another] .
25οἵτινεςhoitines[They] μετήλλαξανmetēllaxanexchanged τὴνtēnthe ἀλήθειανalētheiantruth τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God ἐνenfor τῷtō- ψεύδειpseudeia lie , καὶkaiand ἐσεβάσθησανesebasthēsanworshiped καὶkaiand ἐλάτρευσανelatreusanserved τῇtēthe κτίσειktiseicreature παρὰpararather than τὸνtonthe ΚτίσανταKtisantaCreator , ὅςhoswho ἐστινestinis εὐλογητὸςeulogētosworthy of praise ! εἰςeisvvv τοὺςtousvvv αἰῶναςaiōnasforever ἀμήνamēnAmen .
26ΔιὰDiaFor this reason τοῦτοtouto. . . παρέδωκενparedōkengave them over αὐτοὺςautous. . . ὁho- ΘεὸςTheosGod εἰςeisto πάθηpathēpassions . ἀτιμίαςatimiasdishonorable αἵhai- τεteEven γὰρgar- θήλειαιthēleiaiwomen αὐτῶνautōntheir μετήλλαξανmetēllaxanexchanged τὴνtēn- φυσικὴνphysikēnnatural χρῆσινchrēsinrelations εἰςeisfor τὴνtēn[ones] . παρὰparavvv φύσινphysinunnatural
27ὁμοίωςhomoiōsLikewise , δὲde“ - καὶkaithen οἱhoithe ἄρσενεςarsenesmen ἀφέντεςaphentesabandoned τὴνtēn- φυσικὴνphysikēnnatural χρῆσινchrēsinrelations τῆςtēswith θηλείαςthēleiaswomen ἐξεκαύθησανexekauthēsan[and] burned ἐνenwith τῇtē- ὀρέξειorexeilust αὐτῶνautōn- εἰςeisfor ἀλλήλουςallēlousone another . ἄρσενεςarsenesMen ἐνenwith ἄρσεσιarsesi[other] men , τὴνtēn- ἀσχημοσύνηνaschēmosynēnindecent [acts] κατεργαζόμενοιkatergazomenoicommitted καὶkaiand τὴνtēnthe ἀντιμισθίανantimisthianpenalty ἣνhēn- ἔδειedeidue τῆςtēsfor πλάνηςplanēserror . αὐτῶνautōntheir ἣνhēn- ἑαυτοῖςheautoisthemselves ἀπολαμβάνοντεςapolambanontesreceived
28καὶkaiand καθὼςkathōssince οὐκoukvvv ἐδοκίμασανedokimasanthey did not see fit τὸνton- ΘεὸνTheonGod , ἔχεινecheinto acknowledge ἐνen. . . ἐπιγνώσειepignōsei. . . παρέδωκενparedōkengave them up αὐτοὺςautous. . . ὁho- ΘεὸςTheos[He] εἰςeisto ἀδόκιμονadokimona depraved νοῦνnounmind , ποιεῖνpoieinto do τὰtawhat μὴmēvvv καθήκονταkathēkontaought not to be done .
29πεπληρωμένουςpeplērōmenousThey have become filled with πάσῃpasēevery kind of ἀδικίᾳadikiawickedness , πορνείᾳporneiasexual immorality , πονηρίᾳponēriaevil , πλεονεξίᾳpleonexiagreed , κακίᾳkakia[and] depravity . μεστοὺςmestous[They are] full φθόνουphthonouof envy , φόνουphonoumurder , ἔριδοςeridosstrife , δόλουdoloudeceit , κακοηθείαςkakoētheias[and] malice .
30ψιθυριστάςpsithyristas[They are] gossips , καταλάλουςkatalalousslanderers , θεοστυγεῖςtheostygeisGod-haters , ὑβριστάςhybristasinsolent , ὑπερηφάνουςhyperēphanousarrogant , ἀλαζόναςalazonas[and] boastful . ἐφευρετὰςepheuretas[They] invent κακῶνkakōn[new] forms of evil ; γονεῦσινgoneusin[their] parents . ἀπειθεῖςapeitheisthey disobey
31ἀσυνέτουςasynetous[They are] senseless , ἀσυνθέτουςasynthetousfaithless , ἀστόργουςastorgousheartless , ἀσπόνδουςaspondoushomeless ἀνελεήμοναςaneleēmonasmerciless .
32οἵτινεςhoitines[Although they] τὸto- δικαίωμαdikaiōmarighteous decree τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouGod’s ἐπιγνόντεςepignontesknow ὅτιhotithat οἱhoithose who τὰtasuch τοιαῦταtoiautathings πράσσοντεςprassontesdo ἄξιοιaxioiworthy θανάτουthanatouof death , εἰσίνeisinare οὐou{they} not μόνονmonononly αὐτὰautathese things , ποιοῦσινpoiousincontinue to do ἀλλὰallabut καὶkaialso συνευδοκοῦσιsuneudokousiapprove of τοῖςtoisthose who πράσσουσι*prassousidefying
