3ho- χρυσὸςchrysosgold ὑμῶνhymōnYour καὶkaiand ho- ἄργυροςargyrossilver κατίωταιkatiōtaiare corroded . καὶkai- ho- ἰὸςioscorrosion αὐτῶνautōnTheir εἰςeis- μαρτύριονmartyriontestify ὑμῖνhyminagainst you ἔσταιestaiwill καὶkaiand φάγεταιphagetaiconsume τὰςtas- σάρκαςsarkasflesh ὑμῶνhymōnyour ὡςhōslike πῦρpyrfire . ἘθησαυρίσατεEthēsaurisateYou have hoarded treasure ἐνenin ἐσχάταιςeschatais[the] last ἡμέραιςhēmeraisdays .
4ἰδοὺidouLook , hothe μισθὸςmisthoswages τῶνtōnfrom the ἐργατῶνergatōnworkmen τῶνtōnwho ἀμησάντωνamēsantōnmowed τὰςtas- χώραςchōrasfields ὑμῶνhymōnyour ho- ἀπεστερημένοςapesteremenosyou withheld ἀφ’aph’against ὑμῶνhymōnyou . κράζειkrazeiare crying out καὶkai- αἱhaiThe βοαὶboaicries τῶνtōnof the θερισάντωνtherisantōnharvesters εἰςeis. . . τὰtathe ὦταōtaears ΚυρίουKyriouof [the] Lord ΣαβαὼθSabaōthof Hosts . εἰσεληλύθασιν*eiselēlythasinhave reached
5ἘτρυφήσατεEtryphēsatein luxury ἐπὶepi{You have lived} on τῆςtēs- γῆςgēsearth καὶkaiand ἐσπαταλήσατεespatalēsateself-indulgence . ἐθρέψατεethrepsateYou have fattened τὰςtas- καρδίαςkardiashearts ὑμῶνhymōnyour ὡςhōslike ἐνenin ἡμέρᾳhēmera[the] day σφαγῆςsphagēsof slaughter .
6κατεδικάσατεkatedikasateYou have condemned ἐφονεύσατεephoneusate[and] murdered τὸνtonthe δίκαιονdikaionrighteous , οὐκoukvvv ἀντιτάσσεταιantitassetaiwho did not resist ὑμῖνhyminyou .
7ΜακροθυμήσατεMakrothymēsateBe patient , οὖνounthen , ἀδελφοίadelphoibrothers , ἕωςheōsuntil τῆςtēs- παρουσίαςparousiascoming . τοῦtouthe ΚυρίουKyriouLord’s ἰδοὺidouSee how hothe γεωργὸςgeōrgosfarmer ἐκδέχεταιekdechetaiawaits τὸνtonthe τίμιονtimionprecious καρπὸνkarponfruit τῆςtēsof the γῆςgēssoil — μακροθυμῶνmakrothymōnhow patient he is ἐπ’ep’for αὐτῷautō. . . ἕωςheōs. . . λάβῃlabē. . . ὑετὸνhyetonrain , πρόϊμονproimon[the fall] καὶkaiand ὄψιμονopsimon[spring rains] .

10ὙπόδειγμαHypodeigma[as] an example λάβετεlabetetake ἀδελφοίadelphoiBrothers , τῆςtēs- κακοπαθείαςkakopatheiasin affliction καὶkai- , τῆςtēs- μακροθυμίαςmakrothymiasof patience τοὺςtousthe προφήταςprophētasprophets οἳhoiwho ἐλάλησανelalēsanspoke τῷthe ὀνόματιonomatiname ΚυρίουKyriouof [the] Lord .
11ἰδοὺidouSee how μακαρίζομενmakarizomenblessed we consider τοὺςtousthose who ὑπομένοντας·upomenontashave persevered . τὴνtēn- ὑπομονὴνhypomonēnperseverance ἸὼβIōbof Job’s ἠκούσατεēkousateYou have heard καὶkaiand τὸtothe τέλοςtelosoutcome ΚυρίουKyrioufrom [the] Lord . εἴδετεeidetehave seen ὅτιhoti- πολύσπλαγχνόςpolysplanchnosfull of compassion ἐστινestinis hoThe ΚύριοςKyriosLord καὶkaiand οἰκτίρμωνoiktirmōnmercy .
12ΠρὸProAbove πάντωνpantōnall , δέdevvv ἀδελφοίadelphoibrothers , μουmoumy μὴ{do} not ὀμνύετεomnyeteswear , μήτεmētenot [by] τὸνton- οὐρανὸνouranonheaven μήτεmēte[or] τὴνtēn- γῆνgēnearth μήτεmēte[or by] ἄλλονallonother τινὰtinaany ὅρκονhorkonoath . ἤτωētōbe δὲdeSimply ὑμῶνhymōn{let} your τὸto- ΝαὶNai“ Yes ” ΝαὶNai“ Yes ” καὶkaiand τὸto[your] ΟὒOu“ No , ” ΟὒOu“ No , ” ἵναhinaso that μὴvvv εἰςeis. . . ὑπόκρισινhypokrisinhypocrisy πέσητεpesēteyou will not fall
13ΚακοπαθεῖKakopatheisuffering ? τιςtis{Is} anyone ἐνenof ὑμῖνhyminyou προσευχέσθωproseuchesthōHe should pray . εὐθυμεῖeuthymeicheerful ? τιςtis{Is} anyone ψαλλέτωpsalletōHe should sing praises .
14ἀσθενεῖastheneisick ? τιςtis{Is} any one ἐνenof ὑμῖνhyminyou προσκαλεσάσθωproskalesasthōHe should call τοὺςtousthe πρεσβυτέρουςpresbyterouselders τῆςtēsof the ἐκκλησίαςekklēsiaschurch καὶkai- προσευξάσθωσανproseuxasthōsanto pray ἐπ’ep’over αὐτὸνautonhim ἀλείψαντεςaleipsantesand anoint ‹αὐτὸν›autonhim ἐλαίῳelaiōwith oil ἐνenin τῷthe ὀνόματιonomatiname τοῦtouof the ΚυρίουKyriouLord .
15καὶkaiAnd the εὐχὴeuchēprayer offered τῆςtēs- πίστεωςpisteōsin faith σώσειsōseiwill restore τὸνtonthe one who κάμνονταkamnontais sick . καὶkai- ἐγερεῖegereiwill raise him up αὐτὸνauton. . . . hoThe ΚύριοςKyriosLord κἂνkanIf ἁμαρτίαςhamartias. . . , ēhe πεποιηκώςpepoiēkōshas sinned ἀφεθήσεταιaphethēsetaihe will be forgiven αὐτῷautō. . . .
16ἘξομολογεῖσθεExomologeistheconfess ἀλλήλοιςallēloisto each other τὰtathe παραπτώματαparaptōmatatrespasses καὶkai- εὔχεσθε*euchesthepray ὑπὲρhyperfor ἀλλήλωνallēlōneach other ὅπωςhopōsso that ἰαθῆτεiathēteyou may be healed . πολὺpolyvvv ἰσχύειischyeito prevail . δέησιςdeēsis[The] prayer δικαίουdikaiouof a righteous [man] ἐνεργουμένηenergoumenēhas great power
17ἨλίαςĒliasElijah ἄνθρωποςanthrōposa man ἦνēnwas ὁμοιοπαθὴςhomoiopathēsjust like ἡμῖνhēminus . καὶkai- προσευχῇproseuchēHe prayed earnestly προσηύξατοprosēuxato. . . τοῦtou- μὴ[that it would] not βρέξαιbrexairain , καὶkaiand οὐκoukvvv ἔβρεξενebrexenit did not rain ἐπὶepion τῆςtēsthe γῆςgēsland ἐνιαυτοὺςeniautousyears . τρεῖςtreisfor three καὶkaiand μῆναςmēnas. . . ἕξhex[a half]
18καὶkaiand πάλινpalinAgain προσηύξατοprosēuxatohe prayed , καὶkaiand hothe οὐρανὸςouranosheavens ὑετὸνhyetonrain , ἔδωκεedokegave καὶkaiand the γῆearth ἐβλάστησεeblasteseyielded τὸνton- καρπὸνkarponcrops . αὐτῆςautēsits
19ἈδελφοίAdelphoibrothers , μουmouMy ἐάνeanif τιςtisone ἐνenof ὑμῖνhyminyou πλανηθῇplanēthēshould wander ἀπὸapofrom τῆςtēsthe ἀληθείαςalētheiastruth καὶkaiand ἐπιστρέψῃepistrepsēshould bring him back τιςtissomeone αὐτόνauton. . . ,
20γινωσκέτω*ginōsketōconsider ὅτιhotithis : hoWhoever ἐπιστρέψαςepistrepsasturns ἁμαρτωλὸνhamartōlona sinner ἐκekfrom πλάνηςplanēs[the] error ὁδοῦhodouway αὐτοῦautouof his σώσειsōseiwill save ψυχὴνpsychēnsoul ἐκekfrom θανάτουthanatoudeath καὶkaiand καλύψειkalypseicover over πλῆθοςplēthosa multitude ἁμαρτιῶνhamartiōnof sins .
