4ἀπῆλθονapēlthonthey went δὲde- καὶkaiand εὗρονheuronfound τῶνtōnwho were πῶλονpōloncolt ? ” δεδεμένονdedemenontied πρὸςprosat τὴνtēnthe θύρανthyrana doorway . ἔξωexōoutside ἐπὶepiin τοῦtouthe ἀμφόδουamphodoustreet , καὶkai- λύουσινlyousinThey untied αὐτόνautonit ,

6ΟἱHoi- δὲde- εἰπὼνeipōnHe said αὐτοῖςautois. . . καθὼςkathōsas ἐνετείλατοeneteilatocommand ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus καὶkaiand ἀφῆκανaphēkan[the people] gave them permission αὐτούςautous. . . .
7καὶkaiThen ἤγαγονēgagon[and] led τὸνtonthe πῶλονpōloncolt πρὸςprosto τὸνton- ἸησοῦνIēsounJesus καὶkaiand ἐπιβαλὼνepibalōnwho puts αὐτῷautōover it , τὰta- ἱμάτιαhimatiacloaks αὐτῶνautōntheir καὶkaiand ἐκάθισενekathisenHe sat ἐπ’ep’on αὐτῷautōover it ,
8πολλοὶpolloiMany [ in the crowd ] δὲdewhile τὰta- ἱμάτιαhimatiacloaks αὐτῶνautōntheir ἔστρωσανestrōsanspread εἰςeison τὴνtēnthe ὁδόνhodonroad , ἄλλοιalloiothers [spread] δὲdewhile στιβάδαςstibadasbranches ἔκοπτονekoptoncut ἐκekfrom τῶνtōnthe δένδρονdendrontree καὶkai- ἐστρώννυονestrōnnyonspread [them] εἰςeison τὴνtēnthe ὁδόνhodonroad ,
9καὶkai- οἱhoiThe [ones who] προάγοντεςproagonteswent ahead καὶkaiand οἱhoithose who ἀκολουθοῦντεςakolouthountesfollowed ἔκραζονekrazonwere shouting : λέγοντεςlegontes- : ὩσαννὰHōsanna“ Hosanna ΕὐλογημένοςEulogēmenos“ Blessed is hoHe [who] ἐρχόμενοςerchomenoscomes ἐνenin ὀνόματιonomati[the] name ΚυρίουKyriouof [the] Lord !”
10ΕὐλογημένηEulogēmenē“ Blessed [is] the ἐρχομένηerchomenēcoming βασιλείαbasileiakingdom ἐνenin ὀνόματιonomati[the] name ΚυρίουKyriouof [the] Lord !” τοῦtou- πατρὸςpatrosfather ἡμῶνhēmōnof our ΔαυίδDauidDavid !” ὩσαννὰHōsanna“ Hosanna ἐνenin τοῖςtoisthe ὑψίστοιςhypsistoishighest !”
11ΚαὶKaiThen εἰσῆλθενeisēlthen[Jesus] entered εἰςeis. . . ἹεροσόλυμαHierosolymaJerusalem hoHe [who] ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus καὶkaiand εἰςeison τὸtothe ἱερόνhierontemple [courts] . καὶkai- περιβλεψάμενοςperiblepsamenosHe looked around at πάνταpantaeverything , ὀψίαςopsiasevening ἤδηēdēalready οὔσηςousēswas τῆςtēs[but since] ὥραςhōras[it] ἐξῆλθενexēlthenHe went out εἰςeisto ΒηθανίανBēthanianBethany μετὰmetawith τῶνtōnthe δώδεκαdōdekaTwelve .
12ΚαὶKai- τῇThe ἐπαύριονepaurionnext day , ἐξελθόντωνexelthontōnhad left αὐτῶνautōn[when] they ἀπὸapo. . . ΒηθανίαςBēthaniasBethany , ἐπείνασε·epeinasewere hungry ?
13καὶkai- ἰδὼνidōnSeeing συκῆνsykēna fig tree ἀπὸapoin μακρόθενmakrothenthe distance ἔχουσανechousanin φύλλαphyllaleaf , ἦλθενēlthenHe went εἰeiif ἄραarathere was τιtiany [fruit] εὑρήσειheurēseito see ἐνenon αὐτῇautēit . καὶkaiBut when ἐλθὼνelthōnHe reached ἐπ’ep’. . . αὐτὴνautēnit , οὐδὲνoudennothing [on it] εὗρενheurenHe found εἰeiexcept μὴ. . . φύλλαphyllaleaves , ΟὐOu“ vvv γὰρgarFor ἣνhēn- καιρὸςkairosseason σύκωνsykōnfor figs .
14καὶkaiThen ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisvvv εἶπενeipenHe said αὐτῇautēto [the tree] , ΜηκέτιMēketiever ἐκekof σοῦsouyour εἰςeis. . . τὸνton. . . αἰῶναaiōna. . . μηδεὶςmēdeis“ {May} no one καρπὸνkarponfruit {again} . ” φάγοιphagoieat καὶkaiAnd ἤκουονēkouonheard [this statement] . οἱhoi- μαθηταὶmathētaidisciples αὐτοῦautouHis
15καὶkaiAnd ἔρχονταιerchontaithey arrived πάλινpalin. . . εἰςeis. . . ἹεροσόλυμαHierosolymaJerusalem καὶkaiand εἰσελθὼνeiselthōn[Jesus] entered hothe ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἰςeison τὸtothe ἱερόνhierontemple [courts] . ἤρξατοērxato[and] began ἐκβάλλεινekballeinto drive out τοὺςtousthose who πωλοῦνταςpōlountasselling καὶkaiand τοὺςtous- ἀγοράζονταςagorazontaswere buying ἐνenvvv τῷvvv ἱερῷhierō[there] . καὶkai- τὰςtasthe τραπέζαςtrapezastables τῶνtōnof the κολλυβιστῶνkollybistōnmoney changers καὶkaiand τὰςtasthe καθέδραςkathedrasseats τῶνtōnof those πωλούντωνpōlountōnselling τὰςtas- περιστερὰςperisterasdoves . κατέστρεψε,katestrepseHe overturned
16καὶkaiAnd οὐκoukvvv ἤφιενēphienHe would not allow ἵναhina- τιςtisanyone διενέγκῃdienenkēto carry σκεῦοςskeuosmerchandise διὰdiathrough τοῦtouthe ἱεροῦhieroutemple [courts] .
17καὶkaiThen ἐδίδασκεedidaskeHe taught λέγωνlegōn- , αὐτοῖςautoisthem , ΟὐOu“ vvv γέγραπταιgegraptaiIs it not written ὅτιhoti- : Ho- οἶκόςoikoshouse μουmou‘ My οἶκόςoikoshouse προσευχῆςproseuchēsof prayer κληθήσεταιklēthēsetaiwill be called πᾶσιpasiall τοῖςtoisthe ἔθνεσινethnesinnations ’ ? ὑμεῖςhymeisyou δὲdeBut αὐτὸνautonit ἐποιήσατεepoiēsatehave made ΣπήλαιονSpēlaion‘ a den λῃστῶνlēstōnof robbers .’ ”
18ΚαὶKaiWhen ἤκουσανēkousanheard [this] , οἱhoi- γραμματεῖςgrammateisscribes καὶkai- οἱhoi- ΦαρισαῖοιPharisaioiPharisees καὶkaiand οἱhoi- ἀρχιερεῖςarchiereischief priests καὶkaiand ἐζήτουνezētounthey looked for πῶςpōsa way αὐτὸνautonHim . ἀπολέσουσιν·apolesousinto kill ἐφοβοῦντοephobountothey were afraid γὰρgarFor αὐτὸνautonHim . ὅτιhoti- : πᾶςpaswhole hothe ὄχλοςochloscrowd ἐξεπλήσσετοexeplēssetowas astonished ἐπὶepiat τῇ- διδαχῇdidachēteaching . αὐτοῦautouHis
19ΚαὶKaiAnd ὅτεhoteAs ὀψὲopselate , ἐγένετοegenetocame , ἐξεπορεύοντοexeporeuonto[Jesus and His disciples] went ἔξωexōout of τῆςtēsthe πόλεωςpoleōscity .
20ΚαὶKai[As] παραπορευόμενοιparaporeuomenoithey were walking back πρωῒprōiin the morning , εἶδονeidonthey saw τὴνtēnthe συκῆνsykēnfig tree ἐξηραμμένηνexērammenēnwithered ἐκekfrom ῥιζῶνrhizōn[its] roots .
21καὶkai- ἀναμνησθεὶςanamnēstheisremembered [it] ho- ΠέτροςPetrosPeter λέγειlegei[and] said αὐτῷautō- , ῬαββίRhabbiRabbi ! ἴδεide“ Look , The συκῆsykēfig tree ἣνhēn- κατηράσωkatērasōYou cursed ἐξήρανταιexērantaihas withered . ”
22ΚαὶKai- ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisvvv ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus λέγειlegeisaid αὐτοῖςautoisto them . ἜχετεEchete“ Have πίστινpistinfaith θεοῦtheouin God , ”
23ἀμὴνamēn“ Truly γὰρgarbecause λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou ὅτιhotithat ὃςhosif anyone ἂνan. . . εἴπῃeipēsays τῷ- ὄρειoreimountain , τούτῳtoutōto this ἌρθητιArthēti‘ Be lifted up καὶkaiand βλήθητιblēthētithrown εἰςeisinto τὴνtēnthe θάλασσανthalassansea ,’ καὶkaiand μὴvvv διακριθῇdiakrithēhas no doubt ἐνenin τῇ- καρδίᾳkardiaheart αὐτοῦautouhis ἀλλὰallabut πιστεύσῃpisteusebelieves ὅτιhotithat hawhat λέγειlegeisaid γίνεταιginetaiwill happen , ἔσταιestaiit will be done αὐτῷautōfor him . hovvv ἘὰνEan“ If εἴπῃeipēsays
24διὰdiaTherefore τοῦτοtouto. . . λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , πάνταpantavvv ὅσαhosawhatever ἂνan. . . προσευχόμενοιproseuchomenoito pray , αἰτεῖσθεaiteistheyou ask for πιστεύετεpisteuetebelieve ὅτιhotithat λαμβάνετε,lambaneteyou have received [it] , καὶkaiand [it] ἔσταιestaiwill be ὑμῖνhyminyours .
25ΚαὶKaiAnd ὅτανhotanwhen στήκετεstēketeyou stand προσευχόμενοιproseuchomenoito pray , ἀφίετεaphieteforgive [it] , εἴeiif τιtianything ἔχετεecheteyou hold κατάkataagainst τινοςtinos[another] , ἵναhinaso that ΚαὶKaiAnd ho- ΠατὴρPatērFather ὑμῶνhymōnyour ho- ἐνenin τοῖςtois- οὐρανοῖςouranoisheaven ἀφῇaphēwill forgive ὑμῖνhyminvvv τὰta- παραπτώματαparaptōmatatrespasses ὑμῶνhymōnyour
26εἴeiif δὲde- ὑμεῖςhymeisyou οὐκoukvvv ἀφίετεaphieteforgive [it] , ΟὐδὲOude“ Neither ho- ΠατὴρPatērFather ὑμῶνhymōnyour ἀφέσειaphesei[the] forgiveness τὰta- παραπτώματαparaptōmatatrespasses ὑμῶνhymōnyour
27καὶkaias well . ” ἔρχονταιerchontaiAfter their return πάλινpalin. . . εἰςeisto ἹεροσόλυμαHierosolymaJerusalem , καὶkai. . . ἐνenin τῷthe ἱερῷhierōtemple [courts] , περιπατοῦντοςperipatountoswas walking αὐτοῦautou[Jesus] ἔρχονταιerchontaiAfter their return πρὸςprosto αὐτὸνautonHim . οἱhoi- ἀρχιερεῖςarchiereischief priests , καὶkai- οἱhoi- γραμματεῖςgrammateisscribes , καὶkaiand οἱhoi- πρεσβύτεροιpresbyteroielders
28καὶkaiand λέγουσινlegousin- , αὐτῷautōhim ? ’ ἦνēnwas ποίᾳpoiawhat ἐξουσίᾳexousiaauthority ταῦταtautathese things . ” ποιεῖςpoieisare You doing ē“ [And] τίςtiswho σοιsoiYou ἔδωκεedokegave [it] τὴνtēnthe ἐξουσίανexousianauthority ταύτηνtautēn- ἵναhinato ταῦταtauta[them] ? ” ποιῇςpoiēsdo
29Ho- δὲde- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisvvv εἶπενeipenreplied αὐτοῖςautois. . . , ἘπερωτήσωEperōtēsō“ I will ask ὑμᾶςhymasyou κἀγὼkagōAnd I ἕναhenaone λόγονlogonquestion , ” καὶkai“ and [if] ἀποκρίθητέapokrithēteyou answer μοιmoiMe , καὶkai- ἐρῶerōI will tell ὑμῖνhyminyou ἐνenby ποίᾳpoiawhat ἐξουσίᾳexousiaauthority ταῦταtautathese things . ποιῶpoiōI am doing
30τὸto- βάπτισμαbaptismabaptism — ἸωάννουIōannouJohn’s ἐξexfrom οὐρανοῦouranouheaven ἦνēnwas it ēor ἐξexfrom ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnmen ? ἀποκρίθητέapokrithēteAnswer μοιmoiMe ! ”
31ΚαὶKai- ἐλογίζοντοelogizontothey discussed it πρὸςprosamong ἑαυτοὺςheautousthemselves λέγοντεςlegontes- : ἘὰνEan“ If εἴπωμενeipōmenwe say , ἘξEx‘ From οὐρανοῦouranouheaven , ’ ἐρεῖereiHe will ask , διατίdiatiwhy οὖνounthen οὐκoukvvv ἐπιστεύσατεepisteusatedid you not believe αὐτῷautōhim ? ’
32ἀλλὰallaBut εἴπωμενeipōmenif we say , ἘξEx‘ From ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnmen ’ ... ” ἐφοβοῦντοephobountothey were afraid of τὸνtonthe λαὸνlaona people ἅπαντεςhapantesthey all γὰρgarfor εἶχονeichonheld τὸνtonthat ἸωάννηνIōannēnJohn ὅτιhoti- προφήτηςprophētēsa prophet . ἦνēnwas
33καὶkaiSo ἀποκριθέντεςapokrithentesthey answered λέγουσιlegousisay τῷ- ἸησοῦIēsou- ΟὐκOukvvv οἴδαμενoidamen“ We do not know . ” ΚαὶKaiAnd ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisvvv λέγειlegeisaid αὐτοῖςautoisto them . ΟὐδὲOude“ Neither ἐγὼegō{will} I λέγωlegōtell ὑμῖνhyminyou ἐνenby ποίᾳpoiawhat ἐξουσίᾳexousiaauthority ταῦταtautathese things . ” ποιῶpoiōI am doing
