3ἀπέστειλανapesteilansent οὖνounSo αἱhaithe ἀδελφαὶadelphaisisters πρὸςprosto αὐτὸνauton[Jesus] , λέγουσαιlegousaiword ΚύριεKyrie“ Lord ἴδεide. . . , ὃνhonthe [one] φιλεῖςphileisYou love ἀσθενεῖastheneiis sick . ”
4ἈκούσαςAkousasheard [this] , δὲde[When] ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἶπενeipenHe said , ΑὕτηHautē“ This - ἀσθένειαastheneiasickness οὐκouknot ἔστιestiis πρὸςprosend in θάνατονthanatondeath . ἀλλ’all’No , ὑπὲρhyper[it is] for τῆςtēsthe δόξηςdoxēsglory τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God , ἵναhinaso that δοξασθῇdoxasthēmay be glorified ho- ΥἱὸςHuiosSon τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God δι’di’through αὐτῆςautēsit . ”

6ὡςhōson οὖνounSo ἤκουσενēkousenhearing ὅτιhotithat ἀσθενεῖasthenei[Lazarus] was sick , τότεtote- μὲνmen- ἔμεινενemeinenHe stayed ἐνenvvv where ἦνēnHe was τόπῳtopōvvv δύοdyofor two ἡμέραςhēmerasdays ,

11ΤαῦταTautathis , εἰπὲeipesay καὶkai- μετὰmetaAfter τοῦτοtouto- λέγειlegeiHe told αὐτοῖςautoisthem , ΛάζαροςLazarosLazarus ho- φίλοςphilosfriend ἡμῶνhēmōn“ Our κεκοίμηταιkekoimētaihas fallen asleep , ἀλλὰallabut πορεύομαιporeuomaiI am going [there] ἵναhinato ἐξυπνήσωexupnesowake him up αὐτόνauton. . . . ”
12εἶπόνeipon“ Did I not tell οὖνounSo οἱhoiwho μαθηταὶmathētaidisciples αὐτοῦautouof [Lazarus] . ΚύριεKyrie“ Lord , εἰeiif κεκοίμηταιkekoimētaihe is sleeping , σωθήσεταιsōthēsetaihe will get better . ”

15καὶkaiand χαίρωchairōI am glad δι’di’for your sake ὑμᾶςhymas. . . ἵναhinaso that πιστεύσητεpisteusēteyou may believe . ὅτιhoti- οὐκouknot ἤμηνēmēnI was ἐκεῖekeithere , ἀλλ’all’No , ἌγωμενAgōmen“ Let us go πρὸςprosend in αὐτὸνauton[Jesus] ,
16εἶπενeipenHe said , οὖνounSo ΘωμᾶςThōmasThomas ho- λεγόμενοςlegomenoscalled ΔίδυμοςDidymosDidymus τοῖςtoisto [his] συμμαθηταῖςsymmathētaisfellow disciples , ἌγωμενAgōmengo , καὶkaialso ἡμεῖςhēmeis“ {Let} us ἵναhinaso that ἀποθάνωμενapothanōmenwe may die μετ’met’with αὐτοῦautouHim . ”
17ἘλθὼνElthōnarrived , οὖνoun[When] ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εὗρενheurenHe found that αὐτὸνauton[Lazarus] τέσσαραςtessarasfour ἡμέραςhēmerasdays ἤδηēdē. . . ἔχονταechontahad already spent ἐνenin τῷthe μνημείῳmnēmeiōtomb .
18ἐνenin δὲdeNow ‹ἡ›- ΒηθανίαBēthaniaBethany ἐγγὺςengysnear τῶνtōn- ἹεροσολύμωνHierosolymōnJerusalem , ὡςhōsa little less than ἀπὸapoaway , σταδίωνstadiōn. . . δεκαπέντεdekapentetwo miles
19καὶkaiand πολλοὶpolloimany ἐκekof τῶνtōnthe ἸουδαίωνIoudaiōnJews ἐληλύθεισανelēlytheisanhad come πρὸςprosto τὰςtas- περὶperiin the loss of ΜάρθανMarthanMartha καὶkaiand ΜαρίανMarianMary ἵναhinato παραμυθήσωνταιparamythēsōntaiconsole αὐτὰςautasthem περὶperiin the loss of τοῦtou[their] ἀδελφοῦadelphoubrother . αὐτὸνauton[Lazarus]

21ΕἶπενEipensaid οὖνoun- - ΜάρθαMarthaMartha πρὸςprosto ‹τὸν›ton- ἸησοῦνIēsounJesus , ΚύριεKyrie“ Lord , εἰeiif ἦςēsYou had been ὧδεhōdehere , ho- ἀδελφόςadelphosbrother μουmoumy οὐκoukvvv ἂνanvvv ἐτεθνήκειetethnikeihave died
22[ἀλλὰ]allaBut καὶkai. . . νῦνnyneven now οἶδαoidaI know ὅτιhotithat ὅσαhosawhatever ἂνan. . . αἰτήσῃaitēsēYou ask of τὸνton- ΘεὸνTheon[Him] . ” δώσειdōseiwill give σοιsoiYou ho- ΘεόςTheosGod

24ΛέγειLegeitold her αὐτῷautō. . . , ΜάρθαMarthaMartha ΟἶδαOida“ I know ὅτιhotithat ἀναστήσεταιanastēsetaihe will rise again ἐνenin τῇthe ἀναστάσειanastaseiresurrection ἐνenat τῇthe ἐσχάτῃeschatēlast ἡμέρᾳhēmeraday . ”
25ΕἶπενEipensaid αὐτῇautēto her , ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἘγώEgō“ I εἰμιeimiam the ἀνάστασιςanastasisresurrection καὶkaiand the ζωήzōēlife .
26hoWhoever πιστεύωνpisteuōnbelieves εἰςeisin ἐμὲemeMe κἂνkaneven though ἀποθάνῃapothanēhe dies . ζήσεταιzēsetaiwill live , καὶkaiAnd πᾶςpaseveryone howho ζῶνzōnlives καὶkaiand πιστεύωνpisteuōnbelieves εἰςeisin ἐμὲemeMe οὐouvvv μὴvvv ἀποθάνῃapothanēwill never die εἰςeis. . . τὸνton. . . αἰῶναaiōna. . . . πιστεύειςpisteueisDo you believe τοῦτοtoutothis ? ”
27ΛέγειLegeishe answered αὐτῷautō. . . , ΝαίNai“ Yes , ΚύριεKyrieLord , ” ἐγὼegō“ I πεπίστευκαpepisteukabelieve ὅτιhotithat σὺsyYou εἶeiare hothe ΧριστὸςChristosChrist , hothe ΥἱὸςHuiosSon τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God , howho εἰςeisinto τὸνtonthe κόσμονkosmonworld . ” ἐρχόμενοςerchomenoswas to come
28ΚαὶKai[After] ΤαῦταTautathis , εἰποῦσαeipousa[Martha] had said ἀπέλθῃapelthēto depart ΚαὶKai[After] ἐφώνησεephonese[and] called out ΜαρίανMarianMary τὴνtēn- ἀδελφὴνadelphēnsister αὐτῆςautēsher λάθρᾳlathraaside εἰποῦσαeipousato tell her , Ho“ The ΔιδάσκαλοςDidaskalosTeacher πάρεστιparestiis here καὶkaiand φωνεῖphōneiis asking for σεseyou . ”
29ἐκείνηekeinēshe ὡςhōswhen ἤκουσενēkousen[Mary] heard this , ἐγείρηταιegeirētaiwakes , ταχὺtachyquickly καὶkaiand ἔρχεταιerchetaiwas coming , πρὸςprosto αὐτὸνauton[Lazarus]
30ΟὔπωOupō{had} not yet δὲdeNow ἐληλύθειelēlytheientered ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἰςeis. . . τὴνtēnthe κώμηνkōmēnvillage , ἀλλ’all’but ἦνēnwas ἦνēnwas τῷthe τόπῳtopōplace ὅπουhopouwhere ὑπήντησενhypēntēsenhad met αὐτῷautōHim . - ΜάρθαMarthaMartha
31οἱhoithe οὖνoun[When] ἸουδαῖοιIoudaioiJews οἱhoiwho ὄντεςonteswere μετ’met’- αὐτῆςautēs[Mary] ἐνenin τῇthe οἰκίᾳoikiahouse καὶkai- παραμυθούμενοιparamythoumenoiconsoling αὐτήνautēn- ἰδόντεςidontessaw τὴνtēn- ΜαρίανMarianMary ὅτιhoti- ταχέωςtacheōshow quickly ἀνέστηanestēgot up καὶkaiand ἐξῆλθενexēlthenwent out , ἠκολούθησανēkolouthēsanthey followed αὐτῇautēher , λέγοντεςlegontes[and] asked , ὅτιhoti- ὑπάγειhypageishe was going εἰςeisto τὸtothe μνημεῖονmnēmeiontomb ἵναhinato κλαύσῃklausēmourn ἐκεῖekeithere .
32- οὖνoun- ΜαρίαMariaMary ὡςhōsWhen ἦλθενēlthencame to ὅπουhopou- ἦνēn- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἰδοῦσαidousa[and] saw αὐτὸνautonHim , ἔπεσενepesenshe fell αὐτοῦautouHis εἰςeisto τοὺςtous- πόδαςpodasfeet λέγουσαlegousa[and] said αὐτῷautō- , ΚύριεKyrie“ Lord , εἰeiif ἦςēsYou had been ὧδεhōdehere , οὐκouknot ἄνan{would} ἀπέθανέapethaneshe is not dead μουmoumy ho- ἀδελφόςadelphosbrother
33ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus οὖνoun- ὡςhōsWhen εἶδενeidensaw αὐτὴνautēnher κλαίουσανklaiousanweeping , καὶkaiand τοὺςtousthe συνελθόνταςsynelthontaswho had come with αὐτῇautēher ἸουδαίουςIoudaiousJews κλαίονταςklaiontas{also} weeping , ἐνεβριμήσατοenebrimēsatoHe was deeply moved τῷ- πνεύματιpneumatiin spirit καὶkaiand ἐτάραξενetaraxentroubled . ἑαυτόνheauton-
34καὶkaiand εἰπὲeipesay ΠοῦPou“ Where τεθείκατεtetheikatehave you put αὐτόνautonhim ? ”
35ΛέγουσινLegousinthey answered αὐτῷautō. . . . ΚύριεKyrieLord , ” ἔρχουerchou“ Come καὶkaiand ἴδεidesee , ἘδάκρυσενEdakrysenwept . ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus
36ἜλεγονElegonsaid , οὖνounThen οἱhoithe ἸουδαῖοιIoudaioiJews ἼδεIde“ See πῶςpōshow ἐφίλειephileiHe loved αὐτόνautonhim ! ”
37ΤινὲςTinessome δὲdeBut ἐξexof αὐτῶνautōnthem εἶπόνeipon“ Did I not tell ΟὐκOukvvv ἐδύνατοedynato“ Could οὗτοςhoutosthis [man] howho ἀνοίξαςanoixasopened τοὺςtousthe ὀφθαλμοὺςophthalmouseyes τοῦtouof the τυφλοῦtyphloublind ποιῆσαιpoiēsaihave kept ἵναhina- καὶkaialso οὗτοςhoutos[Lazarus] μὴ. . . ἀποθάνῃapothanēfrom dying ? ”
38ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus , οὖνoun- πάλινpalinonce again ἐμβριμώμενοςembrimōmenosdeeply moved ἐνen. . . ἑαυτῷheautō. . . , ἔρχεταιerchetaicame εἰςeisto τὸtothe μνημεῖονmnēmeiontomb . ἦνēnIt was δὲde- σπήλαιονspēlaiona cave καὶkai[with] λίθοςlithosa stone ἐπέκειτοepekeitolaid ἐπ’ep’across αὐτῷautō[the entrance] .
39λέγειlegeisaid . ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἌρατεArate“ Take away τὸνtonthe λίθονlithonstone , ” λέγειlegeisaid . αὐτῷautō- the ἀδελφὴadelphēsister τοῦtouof the τεθνηκότοςtethnekotosdead [man] . ΜάρθαMarthaMartha , ΚύριεKyrie“ Lord , ἤδηēdēby now ὄζειozeihe stinks , ” τεταρταῖοςtetartaiosfour days . ” γάρgar“ - ἐστι.estiis
40ΛέγειLegeireplied αὐτῇautē. . . , ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ΟὐκOukvvv εἶπόνeipon“ Did I not tell σοιsoiyou ὅτιhotithat ἐὰνeanif πιστεύσῃςpisteusēsyou believed , ὄψειopseilate , τὴνtēnthe δόξανdoxanglory τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God ? ”
41ἮρανĒranthey took away οὖνounSo τὸνtonthe λίθονlithonstone . οὐouvvv ἐνenat ho- τεθνηκὼςtethnēkōshad been dead κείμενοςkeimenosbeen laid . hoThe [man who] δὲde- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἦρεereswept them all away τοὺςtousHis ὀφθαλμοὺςophthalmouseyes ἄνωanōupward καὶkaiand εἰπὲeipesay ΠάτερPater“ Father , εὐχαριστῶeucharistōI thank σοιsoiYou ὅτιhotithat ἤκουσάςēkousasYou have heard μουmouMe .
42ἐγὼegōI δὲde- ᾔδεινēdeinknew ὅτιhotithat πάντοτέpantotevvv μουmouMe , ἀκούειςakoueisYou always hear ἀλλὰallabut διὰdiafor the benefit of τὸνtonthe ὄχλονochlonpeople τὸνton- περιεστῶταperiestōtastanding [here] , εἶπονeiponI say [this] ἵναhinaso πιστεύσωσινpisteusōsinthey may believe ὅτιhotithat σύsyYou μεmeMe . ” ἀπέστειλαςapesteilassent
43ΚαὶKai- ταῦταtautathis , εἰπὼνeipōn[After Jesus] had said φωνῇphōnēin a loud voice , μεγάλῃmegalēvvv ἐκραύγασε·ekraugaseHe called out ΛάζαρεLazare“ Lazarus , δεῦροdeurocome ἔξωexōout ! ”
44καὶkaiand ἐξῆλθενexēlthencame out hoThe [man who] τεθνηκὼςtethnēkōshad been dead δεδεμένοςdedemenosbound τοὺςtous[with his] πόδαςpodasfeet καὶkaiand τὰςtas- χεῖραςcheirashands κειρίαιςkeiriaisin strips of linen , καὶkaiand - ὄψιςopsisface αὐτοῦautouhis σουδαρίῳsoudariōin a cloth . περιεδέδετοperiededetowrapped ΛέγειLegeitold αὐτοῖςautoisthem ho- . ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ΛύσατεLysate“ Unwrap αὐτὸνautonhim καὶkaiand ἄφετεaphetelet ὑπάγεινhypageingo , ”
45ΠολλοὶPolloimany οὖνounTherefore ἐκekof τῶνtōnthe ἸουδαίωνIoudaiōnJews οἱhoiwho ἐλθόντεςelthonteshad come πρὸςprosto τὴνtēn- ΜαρίανMarianMary καὶkaiand θεασάμενοιtheasamenoihad seen ἃ*hawhat ἐποίησενepoiēsen[Jesus] did , ho- . 46τινὲςtinessome δὲdeBut ἐξexof αὐτῶνautōnthem ἀπῆλθονapēlthonwent πρὸςprosto τοὺςtousthe ΦαρισαίουςPharisaiousPharisees καὶkaiand εἰπὼνeipōn[After Jesus] had said αὐτοῖςautoisthem ἃ*hawhat ἐποίησενepoiēsen[Jesus] did , ho- . ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus
47ΣυνήγαγονSynēgagonconvened οὖνounThen οἱhoithe ἀρχιερεῖςarchiereischief priests καὶkaiand οἱhoi- ΦαρισαῖοιPharisaioiPharisees συνέδριονsynedrionthe Sanhedrin καὶkaiand ἔλεγονelegonsaid , ΤίTi“ What ποιοῦμενpoioumenare we to do ? ὅτιhoti- οὗτοςhoutosThis ho- ἄνθρωποςanthrōposman πολλὰpollamany σημεῖαsēmeiasigns . ποιεῖpoieiis performing
48ἐὰνeanIf ἀφῶμενaphōmenwe let αὐτὸνautonHim οὕτω,outo[this] πάντεςpanteseveryone πιστεύσουσινpisteusousinwill believe εἰςeisin αὐτόνautonHim , καὶkaiand then ἐλεύσονταιeleusontaiwill come οἱhoithe ῬωμαῖοιRhōmaioiRomans καὶkaiand ἀροῦσινarousintake away ἡμῶνhēmōnour καὶkaiboth τὸνton- τόπονtoponplace καὶkaiand τὸto[our] ἔθνοςethnosnation . ”
49ΕἷςHeisone δέdeBut τιςtisvvv ἐξexof αὐτῶνautōnthem , ΚαϊάφαςKaiaphas[named] Caiaphas , ἀρχιερεὺςarchiereushigh priest ὢνōnwho was τοῦtou- ἐνιαυτοῦeniautouyear , ἐκείνουekeinouthat εἶπενeipensaid αὐτοῖςautoisto them , ὙμεῖςHymeis“ You οὐκoukvvv οἴδατεoidateknow οὐδένoudennothing at all !
50οὐδὲoudevvv διαλογίζεσθεdialogizestheare you thinking [these things] ὅτιhotithat συμφέρειsymphereiit is better ὑμῖνhyminfor you ἵναhinathat εἷςheisone ἄνθρωποςanthrōposman ἀποθάνῃapothanēdie ὑπὲρhyperfor τοῦtouthe λαοῦlaoupeople καὶkai[than that] μὴvvv ὅλονholonwhole τὸtothe ἔθνοςethnosnation ἀπόληταιapolētaiperish . ”
51ΤοῦτοToutothis δὲde- ἀφ’aph’on ἑαυτοῦheautouhis own . οὐκoukvvv εἶπενeipen[Caiaphas] did not say ἀλλὰallaInstead , ἀρχιερεὺςarchiereushigh priest ὢνōn[as] τοῦtou- ἐνιαυτοῦeniautouyear , ἐκείνουekeinouthat προεφήτευσενproepheteusenprophesied ὅτιhotithat ἔμελλενemellenwould HO- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἀποθνήσκεινapothnēskeindie ὑπὲρhyperfor τοῦtouthe ἔθνουςethnousnation ,
52καὶkaiand οὐχouchnot ὑπὲρhyperfor τοῦtouthe ἔθνουςethnousnation , μόνονmonononly ἀλλ’all’but ἵναhina[for] καὶkaialso τὰtathe τέκναteknachildren τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God , τὰta- διεσκορπισμέναdieskorpismenascattered συναγάγῃsynagagēto gather [them] together εἰςeisinto ἕνhenone .
53Ἀπ’Ap’from ἐκείνηςekeinēsthat οὖνounSo τῆςtēs- ἡμέραςhēmerasday {on} συνεβουλεύσαντοsynebouleusantothey conspired ἵναhinato ἀποκτείνωσινapokteinōsinkill αὐτόνautonHim .
