9ΚαὶKai- εὐθέωςeutheōsImmediately ἐγένετοegenetowas made ὑγιὴςhygiēswell , hothe ἄνθρωποςanthrōposman καὶkaiand ἦρεereswept them all away τὸνton- κράβαττονkrabattonmat αὐτοῦautouhis καὶkaiand περιεπάτειperiepateibegan to walk . ἮνĒnthis happened δὲdeNow σάββατονsabbatonSabbath ἐνenon ἐκείνῃekeinē- τῇthe ἡμέρᾳhēmeraday ,
10ἔλεγονelegonsaid οὖνounso οἱhoithe ἸουδαῖοιIoudaioiJews τῷto the [man] τεθεραπευμένῳtetherapeumenōwho had been healed , ΣάββατόνSabbaton[the] Sabbath ! ἐστινestin“ This is οὐκoukvvv ἔξεστίexestiis unlawful σοιsoifor you ἆραιaraito carry τὸνton- κράβαττονkrabattonmat . ”
11ἀπεκρίθηapekrithēhe answered αὐτοῖςautois- , Ho“ The [man who] ποιήσαςpoiēsasmade μεmeme ὑγιῆhygiēwell ἐκεῖνόςekeinos- μοιmoime , εἶπενeipentold ἎρονAron‘ Pick up τὸνton- κράβαττόνkrabattonmat σουsouyour καὶkaiand περιπάτειperipateiwalk . ’ ”
12ἨρώτησανĒrōtēsanthey asked ‹οὖν›oun- αὐτόνauton- . τίςtiswho ἐστινestinit was , ho- ἄνθρωποςanthrōposman howho εἰπώνeipōntold σοιsoiyou ἎρονAronto pick [it] up τὸνton- κράβαττόνkrabattonmat σουsouyour καὶkaiand περιπάτειperipateiwalk . ’ ”
13ho[this] δὲdeBut ἰαθεὶςiatheiswas healed οὐκouk{did} not ᾔδειēdeiknow τίςtiswho ἐστινestinit was , ho- γὰρgarfor ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἐξένευσενexeneusenhad slipped away ὄχλουochlou[while the] crowd ὄντοςontoswas ἐνenvvv τῷvvv τόπῳtopōthere .
14ΜετὰMetaAfterward ταῦταtauta. . . , εὑρίσκειheuriskeifound αὐτὸνauton[the man] ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἐνenat τῷthe ἱερῷhierōtemple καὶkaiand εἶπενeipensaid αὐτῷautōto him , ἼδεIde“ See , ὑγιὴςhygiēsmade well . γέγοναςgegonasyou have been μηκέτιmēketiStop ἁμάρτανεhamartanesinning , ἵναhinaor μὴ. . . χεῖρόνcheironworse σοίsoito you . ” τιtisomething γένηταιgenētaimay happen
15ἀπῆλθενapēlthenwent away ho[And] the ἄνθρωποςanthrōposman καὶkaiand ἀνήγγειλεaneggeiletold τοῖςtoisthe ἸουδαίοιςIoudaioisJews ὅτιhotithat ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἐστινestinit was howho ποιήσαςpoiēsashad made αὐτὸνautonhim ὑγιῆhygiēwell .
16ΚαὶKaiNow διὰdiabecause τοῦτοtouto. . . ἐδίωκονediōkonbegan to persecute τὸνton- ἸησοῦνIēsoun[Him] . οἱhoithe ἸουδαῖοιIoudaioiJews ΚαὶKaiNow ἐζήτουνezētountried αὐτὸνautonHim . ἀποκτεῖναιapokteinaito kill ὅτιhoti- ταῦταtautathese things ἐποίειepoiei[Jesus] was doing ἐνenon σαββάτῳsabbatō[the] Sabbath ,
17ho- δὲdeBut [Ἰησοῦς]IēsousJesus ἀπεκρίνατοapekrinatoanswered αὐτοῖςautoisthem , ho- ΠατήρPatērFather μουmouMy ἕωςheōs“ To ἄρτιartithis very day ἐργάζεταιergazetaiis at His work , κἀγὼkagōand I too ἐργάζομαιergazomaiam working . ”
18ΔιὰDiaBecause of τοῦτοtoutothis , οὖνounvvv μᾶλλονmallonall the harder ἐζήτουνezētountried αὐτὸνautonHim . οἱhoithe ἸουδαῖοιIoudaioiJews ἀποκτεῖναιapokteinaito kill ὅτιhoti- οὐouNot μόνονmonononly ἔλυεeluewas He breaking τὸtothe σάββατονsabbatonSabbath , ἀλλὰallabut καὶkaivvv ΠατέραPateraFather , ἴδιονidionHis own ἔλεγεelege[Jesus] declared τὸνton- ΘεόνTheonGod ἴσονisonequal ἑαυτὸνheautonHimself ποιῶνpoiōnmaking τῷwith ΘεῷTheōGod .
19ἈπεκρίνατοApekrinatoreplied οὖνounSo ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus καὶkai. . . εἶπενeipensaid αὐτοῖςautoisthem , ἈμὴνAmēn“ Truly , ἈμὴνAmēn“ Truly , λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , οὐouvvv δύναταιdynataican hothe ΥἱὸςHuiosSon ποιεῖνpoieindo ἀφ’aph’by ἑαυτοῦheautouHimself , οὐδὲνoudennothing ἐὰν*eanunless μή. . . τιti[it] . βλέπῃblepēHe sees τὸνtonthe ΠατέραPateraFather ποιοῦνταpoiountadoing hawhatever γὰρgarFor ἂνan. . . ἐκεῖνοςekeinos[the Father] ποιῇpoiēdoes , ταῦταtauta- καὶkaialso hothe ΥἱὸςHuiosSon ὁμοίωςhomoiōs- . ποιεῖpoieidoes
20hoThe γὰρgar- ΠατὴρPatērFather φιλεῖphileiloves τὸνtonthe ΥἱὸνHuionSon καὶkaiand πάνταpantaall δείκνυσινdeiknysinshows αὐτῷautōHim ha- αὐτὸςautosHe ποιεῖpoieidoes . καὶkaiAnd μείζοναmeizonaeven greater τούτωνtoutōnthan these . δείξειdeixeiHe will show αὐτῷautōHim ἔργαergaworks ἵναhinato ὑμεῖςhymeisyour θαυμάζητεthaumazēteamazement ,
21ὭσπερHōsperjust as γὰρgarFor hothe ΠατὴρPatērFather ἐγείρειegeireiraises τοὺςtousthe νεκροὺςnekrousdead καὶkaiand ζωοποιεῖzōopoieigives [them] life , οὕτωouto[this] καὶkaiand hothe ΥἱὸςHuiosSon οὓςhousto whom θέλειtheleiHe wishes . ζωοποιεῖzōopoieigives life
22οὐδὲoude. . . , γὰρgarFurthermore , hothe ΠατὴρPatērFather κρίνειkrineijudges οὐδέναoudenano one ἀλλὰallabut τὴνtēn- κρίσινkrisinjudgment πᾶσανpasanall δέδωκεdedokehas assigned τῷto the ΥἱῷHuiōSon ,
23ἵναhinaso that πάντεςpantesall τιμῶσιtimōsimay honor τὸνtonthe ΥἱὸνHuionSon καθὼςkathōsjust as τιμῶσιtimōsithey honor τὸνtonthe ΠατέραPateraFather . hoWhoever μὴvvv τιμῶνtimōndoes not honor τὸνtonthe ΥἱὸνHuionSon οὐouvvv τιμᾷtimadoes not honor τὸνtonthe ΠατέραPateraFather τὸνtonwho πέμψανταpempsantasent αὐτόνautonHim .
24ἈμὴνAmēnTruly , ἈμὴνAmēnTruly , λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , ὅτιhoti- howhoever τὸνton- λόγονlogonword μουmouMy ἀκούωνakouōnhears καὶkaiand πιστεύωνpisteuōnbelieves τῷHim who πέμψαντίpempsantisent μεmeMe ἔχειecheihas ζωὴνzōēnlife αἰώνιονaiōnioneternal καὶkaiand εἰςeisunder κρίσινkrisinjudgment . οὐκouk{will} not ἔρχεταιerchetaicome ἀλλὰallaIndeed , μεταβέβηκενmetabebēkenhe has crossed over ἐκekfrom τοῦtou- θανάτουthanatoudeath εἰςeisto τὴνtēn- ζωήνzōēnlife .
25ἈμὴνAmēnTruly , ἈμὴνAmēnTruly , λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou ὅτιhoti- , ἔρχεταιerchetaiis coming ὥραhōra[the] hour καὶkaiand νῦνnynnow [come] ἐστινestinhas ὅτεhotewhen οἱhoithe νεκροὶnekroidead ἀκούσονταιakousontaiwill hear τῆςtēsthe φωνῆςphōnēsvoice τοῦtouof the ΥἱοῦHuiouSon τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God , καὶkaiand οἱhoithose who ἀκούσαντεςakousanteshear ζήσονται·zesontaiwill live .
26ὥσπερhōsperas γὰρgarFor hothe ΠατὴρPatērFather ἔχειecheihas ζωὴνzōēnlife ἐνenin ἑαυτῷheautōHimself , οὕτωςhoutōsso ἔδωκεedokegave [it] καὶkaialso τῷthe ΥἱῷHuiōSon ζωὴνzōēnlife ἔχεινecheinto have ἐνenin ἑαυτῷheautōHimself .
27καὶkaiAnd ἐξουσίανexousianauthority ἔδωκενedōkenHe has given αὐτῷautōHim καὶkaiAnd κρίσινkrisinjudgment , ποιεῖνpoieinto execute ὅτιhotibecause ΥἱὸςHuios[the] Son ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouof Man . ἐστί.estiis
28μὴ{Do} not θαυμάζετεthaumazetebe amazed at τοῦτοtoutothis , ὅτιhotifor ἔρχεταιerchetaiis coming ὥραhōra[the] hour ἐνenwhen . . . πάντεςpantesall οἱhoiwho [are] ἐνenin τοῖςtois[their] μνημείοιςmnēmeioisgraves ἀκούσονταιakousontaiwill hear τῆςtēs- φωνῆςphōnēsvoice αὐτοῦautouHis
29καὶkaiand ἐκπορεύσονταιekporeusontaicome out — οἱhoithose τὰtawho ἀγαθὰagathagood ποιήσαντεςpoiēsanteshave done εἰςeisto ἀνάστασινanastasin[the] resurrection ζωῆςzōēsof life , οἱhoithose ‹δὲ›deand τὰtawho φαῦλαphaulaevil πράξαντεςpraxanteshave done εἰςeisto ἀνάστασινanastasin[the] resurrection κρίσεωςkriseōsof judgment .
30ΟὐOuvvv δύναμαιdynamaican ἐγὼegōI ποιεῖνpoieindo ἀπ’ap’by ἐμαυτοῦemautouMyself ; οὐδένoudennothing καθὼςkathōsonly as ἀκούωakouōI hear . κρίνωkrinōI judge καὶkaiAnd - κρίσιςkrisisjudgment - ἐμὴemēMy δικαίαdikaiajust , ἐστίνestinis ὅτιhotibecause οὐouvvv ζητῶzētōI do not seek τὸto- θέλημαthelēmawill , τὸto[own] ἐμὸνemonMy ἀλλὰallabut τὸtothe θέλημαthelēmawill τοῦtouof [Him who] πέμψαντόςpempsantossent μεmeMe . ΠατρόςPatrosFather’s
31ἐὰνean[but] if ἐγὼegōI μαρτυρῶmartyrōtestify περὶperiabout ἐμαυτοῦemautouMyself , - μαρτυρίαmartyriatestimony μουmouMy οὐκouknot ἔστινestinis ἀληθήςalēthēsvalid .
32ἄλλοςallosanother ἐστὶνestinThere is howho μαρτυρῶνmartyrōntestifies περὶperiabout ἐμοῦemouMe , καὶkaiand οἶδαoidaI know ὅτιhotithat ἀληθήςalēthēsvalid . ἐστινestinis [His] μαρτυρίαmartyriatestimony ἣνhēn. . . μαρτυρεῖmartyrei. . . περὶperiabout ἐμοῦemouMe
33ὙμεῖςHymeisYou ἀπεστάλκατεapestalkatehave sent πρὸςprosto ἸωάννηνIōannēnJohn , καὶkaiand μεμαρτύρηκεmemarturekehe has testified τῇto the ἀληθείᾳalētheiatruth .
34ἐγὼegōI δὲde[Even though] οὐou{do} not παρὰparavvv ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouhuman τὴνtēn- μαρτυρίανmartyriantestimony , λαμβάνωlambanōaccept ἀλλὰalla- ταῦταtautathese things λέγωlegōI say ἵναhinaso that ὑμεῖςhymeisyou σωθῆτεsōthētemay be saved .
35ἘκεῖνοςEkeinos[John] ἦνēnwas hoa λύχνοςlychnoslamp hothat καιόμενοςkaiomenosburned καὶkaiand φαίνωνphainōngave light , ὑμεῖςhymeisyou δὲdeand ἠθελήσατεēthelēsatewere willing ἀγαλλιαθῆναιagalliathēnaito bask πρὸςprosfor ὥρανhōrana season ἐνenin τῷ- φωτὶphōtilight . αὐτοῦautouhis
36ἐγὼegōI δὲdeBut ἔχωechōhave τὴνtēn- μαρτυρίανmartyriantestimony μείζωmeizōmore substantial than τοῦtouthat ἸωάννουIōannouof John . τὰtathe γὰρgarFor ἔργαergaworks hathat ἔδωκέedokegave [it] μοιmoiMe hothe ΠατὴρPatērFather ἵναhina- τελειώσωteleiōsōto accomplish αὐτάauta. . . — αὐτάauta. . . — τὰtathe ἔργαergaworks ha- ἐγὼegōI ποιῶpoiōI am doing — μαρτυρεῖmartyreitestify περὶperiabout ἐμοῦemouMe ὅτιhotithat hothe ΠατήρPatērFather μεmeMe . ἀπέσταλκε.apestalkeHe has sent

38καὶkai[nor] τὸνton- λόγονlogonword αὐτοῦautouHis οὐκouk. . . ἔχετεechete[does] μένονταmenontaabide ἐνenin ὑμῖνhyminyou , ὅτιhotibecause ὃνhon. . . ἀπέστειλενapesteilensent . ἐκεῖνοςekeinosHe τούτῳtoutōthe [One] ὑμεῖςhymeisyou οὐou{do} not πιστεύετεpisteuetebelieve
39ἐρευνᾶτεereunateYou pore over τὰςtasthe γραφάςgraphasScriptures ὅτιhotibecause ὑμεῖςhymeisyou δοκεῖτεdokeitepresume that ἐνenby αὐταῖςautaisthem ζωὴνzōēnlife . αἰώνιονaiōnioneternal ἔχεινecheinyou possess καὶkai- ἐκεῖναίekeinaiThese εἰσινeisinare αἱhaithe [very words that] μαρτυροῦσαιmartyrousaitestify περὶperiabout ἐμοῦemouMe ,
40καὶkaiyet οὐouvvv θέλετεtheleteyou refuse ἐλθεῖνeltheinto come πρόςprosto μεmeMe ἵναhinato ζωὴνzōēnlife . ἔχητεechētehave
41ΔόξανDoxanglory παρὰparafrom ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnmen , οὐouvvv λαμβάνωlambanōI do not accept
42ἀλλ’all’Instead , ἔγνωκαegnōkaI know ὑμᾶςhymasyou , ὅτιhotithat τὴνtēnthe ἀγάπηνagapēnlove τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God οὐκoukvvv ἔχετεecheteyou do not have ἐνenwithin ἑαυτοῖςheautoisyou .
43ἐγὼegōI ἐλήλυθαelēlythahave come ἐνenin τῷ- ὀνόματιonomatiname , τοῦtou- ΠατρόςPatrosFather’s μουmouMy καὶkaiand οὐouvvv λαμβάνετέlambaneteyou have not received μεmeMe ; ἐὰνean[but] if ἄλλοςallossomeone else ἔλθῃelthēcomes ἐνenin τῷ[his] ὀνόματιonomatiname , τῷ- ἰδίῳidiōown ἐκεῖνονekeinonhim . λήψεσθε.lepsestheyou will receive
44πῶςpōsHow δύνασθεdynasthecan ὑμεῖςhymeisyou πιστεῦσαιpisteusaibelieve δόξανdoxanglory παρὰparafrom ἀλλήλωνallēlōnone another , λαμβάνοντεςlambanontesif you accept καὶkaiyet τὴνtēnthe δόξανdoxanglory τὴνtēnthat [comes] παρὰparafrom τοῦtouthe μόνουmonouonly ΘεοῦTheouGod ? οὐouvvv ζητεῖτεzēteitedo not seek
45Μὴvvv δοκεῖτεdokeiteDo not think ὅτιhotithat ἐγὼegōI κατηγορήσωkatēgorēsōwill accuse ὑμῶνhymōnyou πρὸςprosbefore τὸνtonthe ΠατέραPateraFather . ἔστινestinis ho- κατηγορῶνkatēgorōnaccuser ὑμῶνhymōnYour ΜωϋσῆςMōusēsMoses , εἰςeisin ὃνhonwhom ὑμεῖςhymeisyou ἠλπίκατεēlpikatehave put your hope .
46εἰeiIf γὰρgar- ἐπιστεύετεepisteueteyou had believed ΜωϋσεῖMōuseiMoses , ἐπιστεύετεepisteueteyou had believed ἂνanvvv ἐμοίemoiMe , περὶperiabout γὰρgarbecause ἐμοῦemouMe . ἐκεῖνοςekeinoshe ἔγραψενegrapsenwrote
47εἰeisince δὲdeBut τοῖςtoiswhat ἐκείνουekeinouhe γράμμασινgrammasinwrote , οὐouvvv πιστεύετεpisteueteyou do not believe πῶςpōshow τοῖςtoiswhat ἐμοῖςemoisI ῥήμασιremasisay ? ” πιστεύσετεpisteusetewill you believe
