1ὮŌO ἀνόητοιanoētoifoolish ΓαλάταιGalataiGalatians ! τίςtisWho ὑμᾶςhymasyou ? ἐβάσκανεebaskanehas bewitched τῇtēvvv ἀληθείᾳalētheiatruth ? μὴmēvvv πείθεσθαιpeithesthaifrom obeying οἷςhois[your very] κατ’kat’Before ὀφθαλμοὺςophthalmouseyes ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ΧριστὸςChristosChrist προεγράφηproegraphēwas clearly portrayed ἐνenamong ὑμῖνhyminyou ἐσταυρωμένοςestaurōmenos[as] crucified .
2τοῦτοtouto[one thing] μόνονmononjust θέλωthelōI would like μαθεῖνmatheinto learn ἀφ’aph’from ὑμῶνhymōnyou : ἐξexby ἔργωνergōnworks νόμουnomouof the law , τὸtothe ΠνεῦμαPneumaSpirit ἐλάβετεelabeteDid you receive ἢēor ἐξexby ἀκοῆςakoēshearing πίστεωςpisteōswith faith ?
3ΟὕτωςHoutōsso ἀνόητοίanoētoifoolish ? ἐστεesteAre you ἐναρξάμενοιenarxamenoiAfter starting ΠνεύματιPneumatiin [the] Spirit , νῦνnynvvv σαρκὶsarkiin [the] flesh ? ἐπιτελεῖσθεepiteleistheare you now finishing
4τοσαῦταtosautaso much ἐπάθετεepatheteHave you suffered εἰκῇeikēfor nothing , εἴeiif γεgeit really was καὶkai. . . εἰκῇeikēfor nothing ?
5ὁho{Does} [God] οὖνoun- ἐπιχορηγῶνepichorēgōnlavish ὑμῖνhyminon you τὸto[His] ΠνεῦμαPneumaSpirit καὶkaiand ἐνεργῶνenergōnwork δυνάμειςdynameismiracles ἐνenamong ὑμῖνhyminyou ἐξexbecause [you] ἔργωνergōnpractice νόμουnomouthe law , ἢēor ἐξexbecause [you] ἀκοῆςakoēshear πίστεωςpisteōs[and] believe ?
6ΚαθὼςKathōsSo also , ἈβραὰμAbraam“ Abraham ἐπίστευσεepisteusebelieved τῷtō- ΘεῷTheōGod , καὶkaiand ἐλογίσθηelogisthēit was credited αὐτῷautōto him εἰςeisas δικαιοσύνηνdikaiosynēnrighteousness .”
7ΓινώσκετεGinōsketeUnderstand , ἄραarathen , ὅτιhotithat οἱhoithose who ἐκekhave πίστεωςpisteōsfaith οὗτοιhoutoi- εἰσινeisinare υἱοίhuioisons ἈβραάμAbraamof Abraham .
8προϊδοῦσαproidousaforesaw δὲde- ἡhēThe γραφὴgraphēScripture ὅτιhotithat ἐκekby πίστεωςpisteōsfaith , δικαιοῖdikaioiwould justify τὰtathe ἔθνηethnēGentiles ὁho- ΘεὸςTheosGod προευηγγελίσατοproeuēngelisato[and] foretold the gospel τῷtō- ἈβραὰμAbraamto Abraham ὅτιhoti- : ἘνευλογηθήσονταιEneulogēthēsontaiwill be blessed ἐνenthrough σοὶsoiyou .” πάνταpanta“ All τὰta- ἔθνηethnēnations
9ὥστεhōsteSo οἱhoithose who ἐκekhave πίστεωςpisteōsfaith εὐλογοῦνταιeulogountaiare blessed σὺνsynalong with τῷtōthe [man] πιστῷpistōof faith . ἈβραάμAbraamAbraham ,
10ὍσοιHosoiAll who γὰρgar- ἐξex. . . ἔργωνergōnworks νόμουnomouof the law εἰσίνeisinare ὑπὸhypounder κατάρανkatarana curse . εἰσί·eisiare γέγραπταιgegraptaiit is written γὰρgarFor ἘπικατάρατοςEpikataratos“ Cursed [is] πᾶςpaseveryone ὃςhoswho οὐκoukvvv ἐμμένειemmeneidoes not continue ἐνenin πᾶσιpasiall τοῖςtois- γεγραμμένοιςgegrammenoiswritten ἐνenin τῷtōthe βιβλίῳbibliōBook τοῦtouof the νόμουnomouLaw .” τοῦtouof the ποιῆσαιpoiēsaito do αὐτάautavvv
11ὅτιhoti- : δὲdeNow ἐνenin νόμῳnomō[the] law , οὐδεὶςoudeisno one δικαιοῦταιdikaioutaiis justified παρὰparabefore τῷtō- ΘεῷTheōGod δῆλονdēlonit is clear ὉHo“ The δίκαιοςdikaiosrighteous ἐκekby πίστεωςpisteōsfaith .” ζήσεταιzēsetaiwill live
12ὉHo“ The δὲdehowever , νόμοςnomoslaw , οὐκouknot ἔστινestinis ἐκekbased πίστεωςpisteōson faith ; ἀλλ’all’on the contrary , ὉHo“ The [man who] ποιήσαςpoiēsasdoes αὐτὰautathese things ἄνθρωποςanthrōposa man ζήσεταιzēsetaiwill live ἐνenby αὐτοῖςautoisthem .”
13ΧριστὸςChristosChrist ἡμᾶςhēmasus ἐξηγόρασενexēgorasenredeemed ἐκekfrom τῆςtēsthe κατάραςkatarascurse τοῦtouof the νόμουnomoulaw γενόμενοςgenomenosby becoming ὑπὲρhyperfor ἡμῶνhēmōnus . κατάραkataraa curse γέγραπταιgegraptaiit is written : γὰρgarFor ἘπικατάρατοςEpikataratos“ Cursed [is] πᾶςpaseveryone ὉHo“ The κρεμάμενοςkremamenosis hung ἐπὶepion ξύλουxyloua tree .”
14ἵναhina[He redeemed us] in order that εἰςeisto τὰtathe ἔθνηethnēGentiles ἡhēthe εὐλογίαeulogiablessing promised τοῦtou- ἈβραὰμAbraamto Abraham γένηταιgenētaiwould come ἐνenin ΧριστῷChristōChrist ἸησοῦIēsouJesus , ἵναhinaso that τὴνtēnthe ἐπαγγελίανepangelianpromise τοῦtouof the ΠνεύματοςPneumatosSpirit . λάβωμενlabōmenwe might receive διὰdiaby τῆςtēs- πίστεωςpisteōsfaith
15ἈδελφοίAdelphoiBrothers , κατὰkatain human terms ἄνθρωπονanthrōpon. . . . λέγωlegōlet me put this ὅμωςhomōsEven ἀνθρώπουanthrōpou. . . , κεκυρωμένηνkekyrōmenēnonce it is ratified , διαθήκηνdiathēkēna human covenant οὐδεὶςoudeiscannot ἀθετεῖatheteibe canceled ἢēor ἐπιδιατάσσεταιepidiatassetaiamended .
16τῷtō- δὲde- ἈβραὰμAbraamto Abraham ἐρρέθησανerrethēsanwere spoken αἱhaiThe ἐπαγγελίαιepangeliaipromises καὶkaiand τῷtōto σπέρματιspermatiseed . αὐτοῦautouhis οὐouvvv λέγειlegei[The Scripture ] does not say , ΚαὶKai“ and τοῖςtois- σπέρμασινspermasinto seeds , ” ὡςhōsvvv ἐπὶepimeaning πολλῶνpollōnmany , ἀλλ’all’but ὡςhōsvvv ἐφ’eph’meaning ἑνόςhenosOne , ΚαὶKai“ and τῷtōto σπέρματίspermatiseed ,” σουsouyour ὡςhōsvvv ἐστίestiI have ΧριστόςChristosChrist .
17ΤοῦτοTouto[is] this : δὲde- λέγωlegōWhat I mean διαθήκηνdiathēkēn[the] covenant προκεκυρωμένηνprokekyrōmenēnpreviously established ὑπὸhypoby τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouGod , εἰςeisso as ΧριστόνChristonto Christ , ὁhothe μετὰmetalater ἔτηetēyears τετρακόσιαtetrakosia430 {} καὶkai. . . τριάκονταtriakonta. . . γεγονὼςgegonōsthat came νόμοςnomos[The] law οὐκoukvvv ἀκυροῖakyroidoes not revoke εἰςeisso as τὸto- καταργῆσαιkatargēsaito nullify τὴνtēnthe ἐπαγγελίανepangelianpromise .
18εἰeiif γὰρgarFor ἐκekdepends on νόμουnomou[the] law , ἡhēthe κληρονομίαklēronomiainheritance οὐκέτιouketi[then it] no longer ἐξexdepends on ἐπαγγελίαςepangeliasa promise ; τῷtō- δὲdebut ἈβραὰμAbraamto Abraham δι’di’through ἐπαγγελίαςepangeliasa promise . κεχάρισταιkecharistaifreely granted [it] ὁho- ΘεόςTheosGod
19ΤίTiWhy οὖνounthen ὁho[ was ] the νόμοςnomoslaw [ given ] ? τῶνtōn- παραβάσεωνparabaseōntransgressions , χάρινcharinbecause of προσετέθηprosetethēIt was added ἄχριςachrisuntil οὗ*houvvv ἔλθῃelthē[the] arrival τὸtoof the σπέρμαspermaseed ᾧhōto whom ἐπήγγελταιepēngeltai[the] promise referred . διαταγεὶςdiatageisIt was administered δι’di’through ἀγγέλωνangelōnangels ἐνenby χειρὶcheirivvv μεσίτουmesitoua mediator .
20ὁho- δὲdehowever , μεσίτηςmesitēsA mediator ἑνὸςhenos[ for only ] one [ party ] ; οὐκoukunnecessary , ἔστινestinis ὁho- δὲdehowever , ΘεὸςTheosGod εἷςheisone . ἐστινestinis
21ὉHo[Is] the οὖνounthen , νόμοςnomoslaw , κατὰkataopposed to τῶνtōnthe ἐπαγγελιῶνepangeliōnpromises τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God ? μὴmēvvv γένοιτοgenoitoCertainly not ! εἰeiif γὰρgarFor ἐδόθηedothēhad been given νόμοςnomosa law ὁhothat δυνάμενοςdynamenoscould ζωοποιῆσαιzōopoiēsaiimpart life , ὄντωςontōs{would} certainly ἂνanthen ἐκekfrom νόμουnomou[the] law . ἦνēnhave come ἡhē- δικαιοσύνηdikaiosynērighteousness
22ἀλλὰallaBut συνέκλεισενsynekleisenconfined ἡhēthe γραφὴgraphēScripture [ pronounces ] τὰtathings πάνταpantaall ὑπὸhypoby ἁμαρτίανhamartiansin , ἵναhinaso that ἡhēthe ἐπαγγελίαepangeliapromise ἐκekby πίστεωςpisteōsfaith ἸησοῦIēsouin Jesus ΧριστοῦChristouChrist δοθῇdothēmight be given τοῖςtoisto those who πιστεύουσι.pisteuousibelieve
23ΠρὸProBefore δὲde- τοῦtou- ἐλθεῖνeltheincame , τὴνtēn[this] πίστινpistinfaith ὑπὸhypounder νόμονnomonthe law , ἐφρουρούμεθαephrouroumethawe were held in custody συγκλεκλεισμένοιsugklekleismenoilocked up εἰςeisuntil τὴνtēn- μέλλουσανmellousanshould be πίστινpistinfaith ἀποκαλυφθῆναιapokalyphthēnairevealed .
24ὥστεhōsteSo ὁhothe νόμοςnomoslaw παιδαγωγὸςpaidagōgosguardian ἡμῶνhēmōnour γέγονενgegonenbecame εἰςeisto lead us ΧριστόνChristonto Christ , ἵναhinathat ἐκekby πίστεωςpisteōsfaith . δικαιωθῶμενdikaiōthōmenwe might be justified
25ἐλθούσηςelthousēshas come , δὲdeNow τῆςtēs[that] πίστεωςpisteōsfaith οὐκέτιouketino longer ὑπὸhypounder παιδαγωγόνpaidagōgona guardian . ἐσμενesmenwe are
26ΠάντεςPantesall γὰρgar- υἱοὶhuioisons ΘεοῦTheouof God ἐστεesteYou are διὰdiathrough τῆςtēs- πίστεωςpisteōsfaith ἐνenin ΧριστῷChristōChrist ἸησοῦIēsouJesus .
27ὅσοιhosoiall of γὰρgarFor εἰςeisinto ΧριστὸνChristonChrist ἐβαπτίσθητεebaptisthēteyou [who] were baptized ΧριστὸνChristonChrist ἐνεδύσασθεenedysasthehave clothed yourselves with
28οὐκoukneither ἔνιeniThere is ἸουδαῖοςIoudaiosJew οὐδὲoudenor ἝλληνHellēnGreek , οὐκouk- ἔνιeni- δοῦλοςdoulosslave οὐδὲoudenor ἐλεύθεροςeleutherosfree , οὐκouk- ἔνιeni- ἄρσενarsenmale καὶkai[nor] θῆλυthēlyfemale , πάντεςpantesall γὰρgarfor ὑμεῖςhymeisyou εἷςheisone ἐστεesteare ἐνenin ΧριστῷChristōChrist ἸησοῦIēsouJesus .
29εἰeiif δὲdeAnd ὑμεῖςhymeisyou belong ΧριστοῦChristouto Christ , ἄραarathen τοῦtou- ἈβραὰμAbraamAbraham’s σπέρμαspermaseed ἐστέesteyou are καὶkai[nor] κατ’kat’according to ἐπαγγελίανepangelian[the] promise . κληρονόμοιklēronomoi[and] heirs
