Revelation 17

1ΚαὶKaiThen ἦλθενēlthencame εἷςheisone ἐκekof τῶνtōnthe ἑπτὰheptaseven ἀγγέλωνangelōnangels τῶνtōn- ἐχόντωνechontōnwith τὰςtasthe ἑπτὰheptaseven φιάλαςphialasbowls καὶkaiand ἐλάλησεelaleseHe promised μετ’met’to ἐμοῦemoume λέγωνlegōn- , ΔεῦροDeuro“ Come , δείξωdeixōI will show σοιsoiyou τὸtothe κρίμαkrimapunishment τῆςtēsof the πόρνηςpornēsprostitute , τῆςtēswho μεγάληςmegalēsgreat τῆςtēs- καθημένηςkathēmenēssits ἐπὶepion ὑδάτωνhydatōnwaters . πολλῶνpollōnmany

2μεθ’meth’with ἧςhēs[her] , ἐπόρνευσανeporneusanwere immoral οἱhoithose who βασιλεῖςbasileiskings τῆςtēsof the γῆςgēsearth καὶkaiand ἐμεθύσθησανemethysthēsanwere intoxicated οἱhoithose who κατοικοῦντεςkatoikountesdwell τὴνtēnon the γῆνgēnearth ἐκekwith τοῦtouthe οἴνουoinouwine τῆςtēsof πορνείαςporneiasimmorality . ”

3ΚαὶKaiAnd ἀπήνεγκέapenegkehe carried me away μεme. . . εἰςeisinto ἔρημονerēmona wilderness , ἐνenin ΠνεύματιPneumati[the] Spirit καὶkai[where] εἶδονeidonI saw γυναῖκαgynaikaa woman καθημένηνkathēmenēnsitting ἐπὶepion τὸtothe θηρίονthērionbeast τὸtothe κόκκινονkokkinona scarlet γέμονgemonfull ὀνόματαonomatanames βλασφημίαςblasphēmiasblasphemous ἔχωνechōn[and] had κεφαλὰςkephalasheads ἑπτὰheptaseven καὶkaiand κέραταkeratahorns . δέκαdekaten

4καὶkaiand ἡhēThe γυνὴgynēwoman ἦνēnwas περιβεβλημένηperibeblēmenēdressed in πορφυροῦνporphyrounpurple καὶkaiand κόκκινονkokkinonscarlet , καὶkaiand κεχρυσωμένηkechrysōmenēadorned χρυσίῳchrysiōwith gold καὶkaiand λίθῳlithōstones τιμίῳtimiōprecious καὶkaiand μαργαρίταιςmargaritaispearls . ἔχουσαechousaShe held ποτήριονpotērioncup χρυσοῦνchrysouna golden ἐνenin τῇtē- χειρὶcheirihand αὐτῆςautēsher γέμονgemonfull βδελυγμάτωνbdelygmatōnof abominations καὶkaiand τὰtathe ἀκάθαρταakathartaimpurities τῆςtēsof πορνείαςporneiassexual immorality . τῆςtēsof ΓΗΣGĒSEARTH .

5ΚαὶKai- ἐπὶepion τὸto- μέτωπονmetōponforehead αὐτῆςautēsher ὄνομαonomaname γεγραμμένονgegrammenonwas written : μυστήριονmystēriona mysterious ΒΑΒΥΛΩΝBABYLŌNBABYLON ΗĒTHE ΜΕΓΑΛΗMEGALĒGREAT , ΗĒTHE ΜΗΤΗΡMĒTĒRMOTHER ΤΩΝTŌN- ΠΟΡΝΩΝPORNŌNOF PROSTITUTES ΚΑΙKAIAND ΤΩΝTŌNOF THE ΒΔΕΛΥΓΜΑΤΩΝBDELYGMATŌNABOMINATIONS ΤΗΣTĒSOF THE ΓΗΣGĒSEARTH .

6ΚαὶKai- εἶδονeidonI could see that τὴνtēnthe γυναῖκαgynaikawoman [was] μεθύουσανmethyousandrunk ἐκekwith τοῦtouthe αἵματοςhaimatosblood τῶνtōnof the ἁγίωνhagiōnsaints καὶkaiand ἐκek- τοῦtou- αἵματοςhaimatos- τῶνtōn- μαρτύρωνmartyrōnwitnesses ἸησοῦIēsoufor Jesus . ΚαὶKaiAnd ἐθαύμασαethaumasaI was utterly amazed ἰδὼνidōnat the sight αὐτὴνautēnof her . θαῦμαthauma. . . μέγαmega. . .

7ΚαὶKaiAnd εἴπῃeipētells μοιmoi- . ὁhothe ἄγγελοςangelosangel διατίdiatiwhy ἐθαύμασαςethaumasasare you so amazed ? ” ἐγὼegō“ I ἐρῶerōwill tell σοιsoiyou τὸtothe μυστήριονmystērionmystery τῆςtēsof the γυναικὸςgynaikoswoman καὶkaiand τοῦtouof the θηρίουthērioubeast τοῦtouthat βαστάζοντοςbastazontoscarries αὐτήνautēnher , τοῦtouwhich ἔχοντοςechontoshas τὰςtasthe ἑπτὰheptaseven κεφαλὰςkephalasheads καὶkaiand τὰta- δέκαdekaten κέραταkeratahorns .

8ΤὸToThe θηρίονthērionbeast ὃhothat εἶδεςeidesyou saw — ἦνēnit was , καὶkaiand [now] οὐκoukno more , ἐστίestiI have καὶkai[but] μέλλειmelleiis about ἀναβαίνεινanabaineinto come up ἐκekout of τῆςtēsthe ἀβύσσουabyssouAbyss καὶkaiand εἰςeisto [its] ἀπώλειανapōleiandestruction . ὑπάγεινhypageinwent [with him] , καὶkaiAnd θαυμάσονταιthaumasontaiwill marvel οἱhoithose who κατοικοῦντεςkatoikountesdwell ἐπὶepion τῆςtēsthe γῆςgēsearth ὧνhōnwhose οὐouvvv γέγραπταιgegraptaiwere not written τὸtothe ὄνομαonomanames ἐπὶepiin τὸtothe βιβλίονbiblionBook τῆςtēs- ζωῆςzōēsof Life ἀπὸapofrom καταβολῆςkatabolēs[the] foundation κόσμουkosmouof [the] world βλεπόντωνblepontōnwhen they see τὸtothe θηρίονthērionbeast ὅτιhotithat ἦνēnwas , καὶkaiand οὐκouknot , ἐστίestiI have καὶkaiand yet παρέσταιparestaiwill be .

9ὯδεHōdeThis calls for ὁho- νοῦςnousa mind ὁho- ἔχωνechōnwith σοφίανsophianwisdom . αἱhaiThe ἑπτὰheptaseven κεφαλαὶkephalaiheads ὄρηorēmountains ἑπτὰheptaseven εἰσίνeisinare ὅπουhopouwhich ἡhēthe γυνὴgynēwoman κάθηταιkathētaisits . ἐπ’ep’on αὐτῶνautōn-

10καὶkaialso βασιλεῖςbasileiskings . ἑπτάheptaseven εἰσινeisinThere are οἱhoi- πέντεpenteFive ἔπεσανepesanhave fallen , ὁho- εἷςheisone ἔστινestinis , ὁho[and] the ἄλλοςallosother οὔπωoupō{has} not yet ἔλθῃelthēhe does come , καὶkai[but] ὅτανhotanwhen ἔλθῃelthēhe does come , ὀλίγονoligonfor only a little while . αὐτὸνautonhe δεῖdeimust μεῖναιmeinairemain

11ΚαὶKai- τὸtoThe θηρίονthērionbeast ὃhothat ἦνēnwas , καὶkaiand [now] οὐκouknot , ἐστίestiI have καὶkaiand [now] αὐτὸςautos- ὄγδοόςogdoosan eighth [king] , ἐστίestiI have καὶkai- ἐκek- τῶνtōnthe [other] ἑπτάheptaseven ἐστίestiI have καὶkaiand εἰςeisinto ἀπώλειανapōleiandestruction . ὑπάγειhypageiis going

12καὶkaiand τὰtaThe δέκαdekaten κέραταkeratahorns ἃha- εἶδεςeidesyou saw δέκαdekaten βασιλεῖςbasileiskings εἰσινeisinare οἵτινεςhoitineswho βασιλείανbasileiana kingdom , οὔπωoupō{have} not yet ἔλαβονelabonreceived ἀλλ’all’but ἐξουσίανexousianof authority ὡςhōsas βασιλεῖςbasileiskings , μίανmianone ὥρανhōranhour λαμβάνουσιlambanousicollect μετὰmetaalong with τοῦtouthe θηρίουthērioubeast .

13οὗτοιhoutoiThese [kings] μίανmianone γνώμηνgnōmēnpurpose : ἜχουσιEchousi‘ They have καὶkai- τὴνtēn- δύναμινdynaminpower καὶkaiand ἐξουσίανexousianauthority αὐτῶνautōntheir τῷtōto the θηρίῳthēriōbeast . διδόασινdidoasinto yield

14οὗτοιhoutoiThese [kings] μετὰmetaalong with τοῦtouthe ἈρνίουArniouLamb , πολεμήσουσι,polemesousiwill make war καὶkaiand τὸtothe ἈρνίονArnionLamb νικήσειnikēseiwill triumph over αὐτούςautousthem , ὅτιhotibecause ΚύριοςKyriosLord κυρίωνkyriōnof lords ἐστίestiI have καὶkaiand ΒασιλεὺςBasileusKing βασιλέωνbasileōnof kings ; καὶkaiand οἱhoi- μετ’met’He will be accompanied by αὐτοῦautouHis κλητοὶklētoicalled καὶkaiand ἐκλεκτοὶeklektoichosen καὶkaiand πιστοίpistoifaithful [ones] . ”

15ΚαὶKaiThen λέγειlegei[the angel] said μοιmoito me , ΤὰTa“ The ὕδαταhydatawaters ἃha- εἶδεςeidesyou saw , οὗhouwhere ἡhēthe πόρνηpornēprostitute κάθηταιkathētaiwas seated , λαοὶlaoipeoples καὶkaiand ὄχλοιochloimultitudes εἰσὶeisiare καὶkaiand ἔθνηethnēnations καὶkaiand γλῶσσαιglōssaitongues .

16καὶkaiAnd τὰtathe δέκαdekaten κέραταkeratahorns ἃhathat εἶδεςeidesyou saw καὶkaiand τὸtothe θηρίονthērionbeast οὗτοιhoutoi- μισήσουσιmisesousihate τὴνtēnthe πόρνηνpornēnprostitute . καὶkaiThey ἠρημωμένηνērēmōmenēndesolate ποιήσουσινpoiēsousinwill leave αὐτὴνautēnher καὶkaiand γυμνήνgymnēnnaked , καὶkaiand τὰςtas- σάρκαςsarkasflesh αὐτῆςautēsher φάγονταιphagontaiwill eat καὶkaiand αὐτὴνautēnher κατακαύσουσινkatakausousinburn ἐνenwith πυρίpyrifire .

17ὁho- γὰρgarFor ΘεὸςTheosGod ἔδωκενedōkenhas put it εἰςeisinto τὰςtas- καρδίαςkardiashearts αὐτῶνautōntheir ποιῆσαιpoiēsaito carry out τὴνtēn- γνώμηνgnōmēnpurpose αὐτοῦautouHis καὶkaiby ποιῆσαιpoiēsaivvv μίανmianvvv γνώμηνgnōmēnuniting καὶkai- δοῦναιdounaito give τὴνtēn- βασιλείανbasileiankingdom αὐτῶνautōntheir τῷtōto the θηρίῳthēriōbeast , ἄχριachriuntil τελεσθῶσινtelesthōsinwere completed . οἱhoithe λόγοιlogoiwords τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God

18καὶkaiAnd ἡhēthe γυνὴgynēwoman ἣνhēn- εἶδεςeidesyou saw ἔστινestinis ἡhēthe πόλιςpoliscity ἡhēthat μεγάληmegalēgreat ἡhē- ἔχουσαechousavvv βασιλείανbasileianrules ἐπὶepiover τῶνtōnthe βασιλέωνbasileōnkings τῆςtēsof the γῆςgēsearth . ”
