2καὶkaiAs soon as ἐξελθόντοςexelthontosgot αὐτοῦautou[Jesus] ἐκekout of τοῦtouthe πλοίουploiouboat , εὐθέωςeutheōsat once . ἀπήντησενapentesenHe was met by αὐτῷautō. . . ἐκekout of τῶνtōnof the μνημείωνmnēmeiōntombs . ἄνθρωποςanthrōposa man ἐνenwith πνεύματιpneumatispirit , ἀκαθάρτῳakathartōan unclean
3ὃςhos[This man] τὴνtēn- κατοίκησινkatoikēsinbeen living εἶχενeichenhad ἐνenin τοῖςtoisthe μνήμασι,mnemasitombs . καὶkaiand οὔτεouteneither ἁλύσεσινhalysesinwith chains οὐδεὶςoudeis- ἐδύνατοedynatocould αὐτὸνauton- , δῆσαιdēsaibe restrained
4διὰdia[Though] τὸto- αὐτὸνautonhe πολλάκιςpollakis{was} often πέδαιςpedaisshackles , καὶkai- ἁλύσεσιalusesichains δεδέσθαιdedesthaibound καὶkaiand διεσπάσθαιdiespasthaihe had broken ὑπ’hyp’. . . αὐτοῦautou. . . τὰςtasthe ἁλύσειςhalyseischains καὶkaiand τὰςtasthe πέδαςpedasshackles . συντετρῖφθαιsyntetriphthaishattered καὶkaiand οὐδεὶςoudeis[there was] no one ἴσχυενischyenwith the strength αὐτὸνautonhim . δαμάσαιdamasaito subdue
5καὶkaivvv διὰdiakept παντὸςpantosvvv νυκτὸςnyktosNight καὶkaiand ἡμέραςhēmerasday ἐνenin τοῖςtoisthe μνήμασιmnemasitombs . καὶkaiand ἐνenin τοῖςtoisthe ὄρεσινoresinmountains ἦνēnhe κράζωνkrazōncrying out καὶkaiand κατακόπτωνkatakoptōncutting ἑαυτὸνheautonhimself λίθοιςlithoiswith stones .
6ἰδὼνidōn[the man] saw δὲde- τὸνton- ἸησοῦνIēsounJesus ἀπὸapofrom μακρόθενmakrothena distance , ἔδραμεedrame[and] ran καὶkaiand προσεκύνησενprosekynēsenfell on his knees αὐτόνautonbefore Him .
7καὶkaiAnd κράξαςkraxashe shouted φωνῇphōnēin a loud voice μεγάλῃmegalēvvv λέγειlegei- , ΤίTi“ What ἐμοὶemoiwith me , καὶkai- σοίsoido You [want] ἸησοῦIēsouJesus , ΥἱὲHuieSon τοῦtouof ΘεοῦTheouGod ? τοῦtouthe ὙψίστουHypsistouMost High ὁρκίζωhorkizōI beg σεseYou τὸνton- ΘεόνTheonbefore God μήmēnot μήmēnot βασανίσῃςbasanisēsto torture
8ἔλεγεelege[Jesus] declared γὰρgarFor αὐτῷautō. . . , ἜξελθεExelthe“ Come τὸto- , πνεῦμαpneumaspirit ! ” τὸto- ἀκάθαρτονakatharton{you} unclean ἐκekout of τοῦtou[this] ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouman
9ΚαὶKai- ἐπηρώταepērōta[Jesus] asked αὐτόνauton. . . . ΤίTi“ What [is] ὄνομάonomaname ? ” σοιsoiyour ΚαὶKai- ἀπεκρίθηapekrithē[and] said λέγωνlegōn- Λεγεὼνlegeon- , ὄνομάonomaname [is] μοιmoi“ My ὅτιhoti“ for πολλοίpolloimany . ” ἐσμενesmenwe are
10καὶkaiAnd παρεκάλειparekaleihe begged αὐτὸνauton[Jesus] πολλὰpollarepeatedly ἵναhinavvv μὴmēvvv ἀποστείλῃaposteilēnot to send αὐτοὺςautousthem . ” ἔξωexōout of τῆςtēs[that] χώραςchōrasregion .
11ἮνĒnwas δὲde- ἐκεῖekeiThere ἀγέληagelēherd χοίρωνchoirōnof pigs μεγάληmegalēa large βοσκομένηboskomenēfeeding . πρὸςprosnearby τῷtōon the ὄρειoreihillside
12καὶkai[So] παρεκάλεσανparekalesan[the demons] begged αὐτὸνauton[Jesus] πάντεςpanteseveryone οἱhoiThose δαίμονεςdaimonesdemons λέγοντεςlegontes- , ΠέμψονPempson“ Send ἡμᾶςhēmasus εἰςeisto τοὺςtousthe χοίρουςchoirouspigs , ἵναhinaso that εἰςeis. . . αὐτοὺςautousthem . ” εἰσέλθωμενeiselthōmenwe may enter
13ΚαὶKai- ἐπέτρεψενepetrepsenHe gave them permission αὐτοῖςautois. . . , εὐθέωςeutheōsat once . ὁhothe [man] ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus καὶkaiAnd ἐξελθόνταexelthontacame out τὰta- πνεύματαpneumataspirits τὰta- ἀκάθαρταakathartaunclean εἰσῆλθονeisēlthon[and] went εἰςeisinto τοὺςtousthe χοίρουςchoirouspigs , καὶkaiand ὥρμησενhōrmēsenrushed ἡhēthe ἀγέληagelēherd κατὰkatadown τοῦtouthe κρημνοῦkrēmnousteep bank εἰςeisinto τὴνtēnthe θάλασσανthalassansea ἦσανēsanof them were δὲde- ὡςhōsof about δισχίλιοιdischilioitwo thousand καὶkaiand ἐπνίγοντοepnigontodrowned ἐνenin τῇtēthe θαλάσσῃthalassē[water] .
14ΚαὶKai- οἱhoiThose βόσκοντεςboskontestending τοὺςtous- χοίρουςchoirouspigs , ἔφυγονephygonran off καὶkaiand ἀπήγγειλανapēngeilanreported [this] εἰςeisin τὴνtēnthe πόλινpolintown καὶkaiand εἰςeis- τοὺςtous- ἀγρούςagrouscountryside , καὶkaiand ἐξελθὼνexelthōnhe came out ἰδεῖνideinto see τίtiwhat ἐστιestiis τὸtovvv γεγονόςgegonoshad happened .
15καὶkaiWhen ἔρχονταιerchontaithey came πρὸςprosto τὸνton- ἸησοῦνIēsounJesus , καὶkai- θεωροῦσιtheorousithey saw τὸνtonthe [man] who δαιμονιζόμενονdaimonizomenonhad been possessed καθήμενονkathēmenonsitting [there] , καὶkaiand ἱματισμένονhimatismenonclothed καὶkaiand σωφρονοῦνταsōphronountain his right mind ; τὸνtonby the ἐσχηκόταeschēkota- τὸνtonby the λεγεῶνα,legeonalegion {of demons} καὶkaiand ἐφοβήθησανephobēthēsanthey were afraid .
16καὶkai- διηγήσαντοdiēgēsantodescribed αὐτοῖςautois. . . οἱhoiThose ἰδόντεςidonteswho had seen [it] πῶςpōswhat ἐγένετοegenetohad happened τῷtōto the δαιμονιζομένῳdaimonizomenōdemon-possessed man καὶkaiand περὶperi[also to] τῶνtōnthe χοίρωνchoirōnpigs .
17καὶkaiAnd ἤρξαντοērxanto[the people] began παρακαλεῖνparakaleinto beg αὐτὸνauton[Jesus] ἀπελθεῖνapeltheinto leave ἀπὸapo. . . τῶνtōn- ὁρίωνhoriōnregion . αὐτῶνautōntheir
18ΚαὶKaiAs ἐμβαίνοντοςembainontoswas getting αὐτοῦautouHe εἰςeisinto τὸtothe πλοῖονploionboat , παρεκάλειparekaleibegged αὐτὸνauton- ὁhothe [man] δαιμονισθεὶςdaimonistheiswho had been possessed by the demons ἵναhinato μετ’met’with αὐτοῦautouHim . ᾖēgo
19καὶkaiBut οὐκoukvvv ἀφῆκενaphēken[Jesus] would not allow αὐτόνautonhim . ἀλλὰalla- λέγειlegeiHe said αὐτῷautō- , ὝπαγεHypage“ Go εἰςeisvvv τὸνtonvvv οἶκόνoikonhome σουsou. . . πρὸςprosto τοὺςtous- σούςsousyour own [people] , ” καὶkai“ and ἀνάγγειλονanaggeilontell αὐτοῖςautoisthem ὅσαhosahow much σοιsoifor you , ὁhothe ΚύριόςKyriosLord πεποίηκεpepoiekehas done καὶkaiand ἠλέησέeleesewhat mercy He has shown σεseyou . ”
20ΚαὶKai[So] ἀπέλθῃapelthēto depart ΚαὶKai[So] ἤρξατοērxatobegan κηρύσσεινkērysseinto proclaim ἐνenthroughout τῇtēthe ΔεκαπόλειDekapoleiDecapolis ὅσαhosahow much ἐποίησενepoiēsenhad done αὐτῷautōfor him . ὁho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus καὶkaiAnd πάντεςpanteseveryone ἐθαύμαζονethaumazonwas amazed .
21ΚαὶKaiWhen διαπεράσαντοςdiaperasantoshad again crossed τοῦtou- ἸησοῦIēsouJesus ἐνenby τῷtō- πλοίῳploiōboat πάλινpalin. . . εἰςeisto τὸtothe πέρανperanother side , συνήχθηsynēchthēgathered ὄχλοςochloscrowd πολὺςpolysa large ἐπ’ep’around αὐτόνautonHim καὶkai- ἦνēn- παρὰparabeside τὴνtēnthe θάλασσανthalassansea .
22καὶkai- ἔρχεταιerchetaiarrived , εἷςheisA τῶνtōn- ἀρχισυναγώγωνarchisynagōgōnsynagogue leader ὀνόματιonomatinamed Ἰάειρος,iaeirosJairus καὶkaiand ἰδὼνidōnseeing αὐτὸνauton[Jesus] , πίπτειpipteihe fell πρὸςprosat τοὺςtous- πόδαςpodasfeet αὐτοῦautouHis
23καὶkaiand παρεκάλειparekaleibegged αὐτὸνauton- πολλὰpollaurgently λέγωνlegōn- ὅτιhoti- , ΤὸTo- θυγάτριόνthygatrionlittle daughter μουmou“ My ἐσχάτωςeschatōsnear death . ἔχειecheiis ἵναhina[Please] ἐλθὼνelthōncome ἐπιθῇςepithēs[and] place αὐτῇautēon her , τὰςtas[Your] χεῖραςcheirashands ὅπωςhopōs- σωθῇsōthēshe will be healed καὶkaiand ζήσεταιzēsetaishall not live
24καὶkaiand ἀπέλθῃapelthēto depart μετ’met’with αὐτοῦautouhim , καὶkaiand ἠκολούθειēkoloutheifollowed αὐτῷautō- ὄχλοςochloscrowd πολύςpolysa large καὶkaiand συνέθλιβονsynethlibonpressed around αὐτόνautonHim .
25ΚαὶKaiAnd γυνὴgynēa woman [was there] ΤίςTis“ Who οὖσαousawho had suffered ἐνenvvv ῥύσειrhyseivvv αἵματοςhaimatosfrom bleeding ἔτηetēyears . δώδεκαdōdekafor twelve
26καὶkai- πολλὰpollamuch {agony} παθοῦσαpathousaShe had borne ὑπὸhypounder the care of πολλῶνpollōnmany ἰατρῶνiatrōnphysicians καὶkaiand δαπανήσασαdapanēsasahad spent τὰta- παρ’par’vvv ἑαυτῆςheautēsher πάνταpantaall καὶkaibut μηδὲνmēdento no ὠφεληθεῖσαōphelētheisaavail . ἀλλὰallavvv μᾶλλονmallonInstead , εἰςeisvvv τὸtovvv χεῖρονcheironworse . ἐλθοῦσαelthousa[her condition] had only grown
27ἀκούσασαakousasaWhen [the woman] heard περὶperiabout τοῦtou- ἸησοῦIēsouJesus , ἐλθοῦσαelthousashe came up ἐνenthrough τῷtōthe ὄχλῳochlōcrowd ὄπισθενopisthenbehind [Him] ἥψατοhēpsato[and] touched τοῦtou- ἱματίουhimatioucloak . αὐτοῦautouHis
28ἔλεγενelegenshe kept saying γὰρgarFor ἐνenthrough ἑαυτῇheautēherself , ὅτιhoti- , ἘὰνEan“ If only ἅψωμαιhapsōmaiI touch κἂνkan. . . τῶνtōn- ἱματίωνhimatiōngarments , αὐτοῦautouHis σωθήσομαιsōthēsomaiI will be healed . ”
29καὶkaivvv εὐθέωςeutheōsat once . ἐξηράνθηexēranthēstopped , ἡhē- πηγὴpēgēvvv τοῦtouvvv αἵματοςhaimatosbleeding αὐτῆςautēsher καὶkaivvv ἔγνωegnōshe sensed τῷtōin [her] σώματιsōmatibody ὅτιhotithat ἴαταιiataishe was healed ἀπὸapoof τῆςtēs[her] μάστιγοςmastigosaffliction .
30ΚαὶKai- εὐθέωςeutheōsat once . ὁho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἐπιγνοὺςepignouswas aware ἐνen. . . ἑαυτῷheautō. . . τὴνtēn[that] ἐξexout from αὐτοῦautouHim . δύναμινdynaminpower ἐξελθοῦσανexelthousanhad gone ἐπιστραφεὶςepistrapheisTurning ἐνento τῷtōthe ὄχλῳochlōcrowd , ἔλεγε·elege[Jesus] declared ΤίςTis“ Who μουmouMy ἥψατοhēpsatotouched τῶνtōn- ἱματίωνhimatiōngarments ? ”
31ΚαὶKai- ἔλεγονelegonanswered αὐτῷautō- , οἱhoi- μαθηταὶmathētaidisciples αὐτοῦautouHis ΒλέπειςBlepeis“ You can see τὸνtonthe ὄχλονochloncrowd συνθλίβοντάsynthlibontapressing in on σεseYou , καὶkaiand yet λέγειςlegeisYou ask , ΤίςTis‘ Who μουmouMe ? ’ ” ἥψατοhēpsatotouched
32ΚαὶKaiBut περιεβλέπετοperieblepetoHe kept looking around ἰδεῖνideinto see τὴνtēnwho τοῦτοtoutothis . ποιήσασανpoiēsasanhad done
33ἡhēthe δὲdeThen γυνὴgynēwoman , φοβηθεῖσαphobētheisain fear , καὶkaiand τρέμουσαtremousatrembling εἰδυῖαeiduiaknowing ὃhowhat γέγονενgegonenhad happened ἐπ’ep’around αὐτῇautēon her , ἔλθῃelthēshould come καὶkaiand προσέπεσενprosepesenfell down before αὐτῷautōHim καὶkai- εἶπενeipenshe told αὐτῷautōHim πᾶσανpasanwhole τὴνtēnthe ἀλήθειανalētheiantruth .
34ὉHo- δὲde- εἶπενeipensaid [Jesus] αὐτῇautē- , ΘυγάτηρThygatēr“ Daughter , ” ἡhē- πίστιςpistisfaith σουsou“ your σέσωκέsesokehas healed σεseyou . ὕπαγεhypageGo εἰςeisin εἰρήνηνeirēnēnpeace καὶkaiand ἴσθιisthibe ὑγιὴςhygiēsfree ἀπὸapoof τῆςtēs- μάστιγόςmastigosaffliction . ” σουsouyour
35ἜτιEtivvv αὐτοῦautouvvv λαλοῦντοςlalountosWhile He was still speaking , ἔρχονταιerchontaiarrived ἀπὸapo[ messengers ] from τοῦtou- ἀρχισυναγώγουarchisynagōgou[the house of Jairus] λέγοντεςlegontes[and] said , ὅτιhoti- ἩHē- θυγάτηρthygatērdaughter σουsou“ Your ἀπέθανε·apethaneshe is not dead τίtiwhy ἔτιetianymore ? ” σκύλλειςskylleisbother τὸνtonthe διδάσκαλονdidaskalonTeacher
36ὉHo- δὲdeBut ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εὐθέωςeutheōsat once . ἀκούσαςakousashears [My words] τὸνtonvvv λόγονlogonvvv λαλούμενονlaloumenontheir conversation λέγειlegeiand said τῷtōto ἀρχισυναγώγῳarchisynagōgō[Jairus] , ΜὴMē“ {Do} not φοβοῦphoboube afraid ; μόνονmononjust πίστευεpisteuebelieve . ”
37καὶkaiAnd οὐκoukvvv ἀφῆκενaphēkenHe did not allow αὐτῷautōHim οὐδέναoudenaanyone συνακολουθῆσαιsynakolouthēsaito accompany εἰeiexcept μὴmē. . . ΠέτρονPetronPeter , καὶkai- ἸάκωβονIakōbonJames , καὶkaiand ἸωάννηνIōannēnJohn τὸνtonthe ἀδελφὸνadelphonbrother ἸακώβουIakōbouof James .
38ΚαὶKaiWhen ἔρχεταιerchetaiarrived , εἷςheisA τῶνtōn- οἶκόνoikonhome τοῦtou- ἀρχισυναγώγουarchisynagōgou[the house of Jairus] καὶkaiand θεωρεῖtheōrei[Jesus] saw θόρυβονthorybon[the] commotion καὶkaiand κλαίονταςklaiontas[the people] weeping καὶkaiand ἀλαλάζονταςalalazontaswailing πολλάpollaloudly .
39καὶkai- εἰσελθὼνeiselthōnHe went inside λέγειlegei[and] asked αὐτοῖςautois- , ΤίTi“ Why θορυβεῖσθεthorybeistheall this commotion καὶkaiand κλαίετεklaieteweeping ? τὸtoThe παιδίονpaidionchild οὐκoukvvv ἀπέθανενapethanenis not dead , ἀλλὰallabut καθεύδειkatheudeiasleep . ” καὶkaiAnd κατεγέλωνkategelōnthey laughed at αὐτοῦautouHim .
40ὅhowhich δὲde[After] ἐκβαλὼνekbalōnhad put them all outside πάνταςpantas- , παραλαμβάνειparalambaneiHe took τὸνtonthe πατέραpaterafather τοῦtou- παιδίουpaidiouchild’s καὶkaiand τὴνtēn- μητέραmēteramother καὶkaiand τοὺςtousHis own companions μετ’met’. . . αὐτοῦautou. . . , καὶkaiand εἰσπορεύεταιeisporeuetaiwent in ὅπουhopou[to see] ἦνēn- . τὸtothe παιδίονpaidionchild ἀνακειμένωνanakeimenōnwere reclining
41καὶkai- κρατήσαςkratēsasTaking τῆςtēsby the χειρὸςcheiroshand , τοῦtou- παιδίουpaidiou[her] λέγειlegei[Jesus] said αὐτῇautē- , ΤαλιθὰTalitha“ Talitha κοῦμι,koumikoum ! ” ὅhowhich ἐστιestiis μεθερμηνευόμενονmethermēneuomenonmeans , ΤὸTo- ΚοράσιονKorasion“ Little girl , σοὶsoito you , λέγωlegōI say ἔγειρεegeireget up ! ”
42καὶkai- εὐθέωςeutheōsat once . ἀνέστηanestēgot up τὸtothe κοράσιονkorasiongirl καὶkaiand περιεπάτειperiepateibegan to walk around . ἦνēnShe was γὰρgar- ἐτῶνetōnyears old , δώδεκαdōdekatwelve καὶkaiand ἐξέστησανexestēsanthey were utterly astounded ἐκστάσειekstasei. . . μεγάλῃmegalē. . . .
43καὶkaiThen διεστείλατοdiesteilato[Jesus] gave strict orders αὐτοῖςautois. . . πολλὰpolla. . . ἵναhinathat μηδεὶςmēdeisno one γνῷgnofind out τοῦτοtoutothis , καὶkaiand εἰπὲeipesay δοθῆναιdothēnaito give αὐτῇautēher φαγεῖνphagein[something] to eat .
