1ΕἴEiif [you have] τιςtisany οὖνounSo παράκλησιςparaklēsisencouragement ἐνenin ΧριστῷChristōChrist , εἴeiif τιtiany παραμύθιονparamythioncomfort ἀγάπηςagapēsfrom [His] love , εἴeiif τιςtisany κοινωνίαkoinōniafellowship ΠνεύματοςPneumatoswith [the] Spirit , εἴeiif τιςtisany σπλάγχναsplanchnaaffection καὶkaiand οἰκτιρμοίoiktirmoicompassion ,
2πληρώσατέplērōsatecomplete μουmou[then] {make} my τὴνtēn- χαρὰνcharanjoy ἵναhina- τὸtovvv αὐτὸautovvv φρονῆτεphronēteby being like-minded , τὴνtēnthe αὐτὴνautēnsame ἀγάπηνagapēnlove , ἔχοντεςechonteshaving σύμψυχοιsympsychoibeing united in spirit [and] τὸtovvv ἓνhenpurpose . φρονοῦντεςphronountesvvv
3μηδὲνmēden[Do] nothing κατὰkata- ἐριθείανeritheianselfish ambition ἡhē- κενοδοξίανkenodoxianempty pride , ἀλλὰallabut τῇtē- ταπεινοφροσύνῃtapeinophrosynēin humility ἀλλήλουςallēlousothers ἡγούμενοιhēgoumenoiconsider ὑπερέχονταςhyperechontasmore important than ἑαυτῶνheautōnyourselves .
4μὴmēnot only {to} τὰtainterests , ἑαυτῶνheautōnyour own ἕκαστοςhekastoseach σκοπεῖτεskopeitecarefully observe ἀλλὰallabut καὶkaialso τὰtato the interests ἑτέρωνheterōnof others . ἕκαστοςhekastoseach
5ΤοῦτοTouto. . . φρονείσθωphroneisthomind , ἐνenin ὑμῖνhyminyou ὃhowhich καὶkai[was] also ἐνenin ΧριστῷChristōChrist ἸησοῦIēsouJesus :
6ὋςHosWho , ἐνenin μορφῇmorphē[the] form ΘεοῦTheouof God , ὑπάρχωνhyparchōnexisting οὐχouch{did} not ἁρπαγμὸνharpagmonsomething to be grasped , ἡγήσατοhēgēsatoconsider τὸto- εἶναιeinaivvv ἴσαisaequality ΘεῷTheōwith God
7ἀλλ’all’Instead , ἑαυτὸνheautonHimself , ἐκένωσεekenoseemptied μορφὴνmorphēn[the] form δούλουdoulouof a servant , λαβώνlabōntaking ἐνenin ὁμοιώματιhomoiōmatihuman likeness ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōn. . . . γενόμενοςgenomenosbeing made
8καὶkaiAnd σχήματιschēmatiin appearance εὑρεθεὶςheuretheisbeing found ὡςhōsas ἄνθρωποςanthrōposa man , ἐταπείνωσενetapeinōsenHe humbled ἑαυτὸνheautonHimself γενόμενοςgenomenos[and] became ὑπήκοοςhypēkoosobedient μέχριmechrito θανάτουthanatoudeath — θανάτουthanatoudeath — δὲdeeven σταυροῦstaurouon [a] cross .
9ΔιὸDioTherefore καὶkai- ὁho- ΘεὸςTheosGod αὐτὸνautonHim {to the highest place} ὑπερύψωσεuperupsoseexalted καὶkaiand ἐχαρίσατοecharisatogave αὐτῷautōHim ὄνομαonomaname τὸtothe ὑπὲρhyperabove πᾶνpanall ὄνομαonomanames ,
10ἵναhinathat ἐνenat τῷtōthe ὀνόματιonomatiname ἸησοῦIēsouof Jesus πᾶνpanevery γόνυgonyknee κάμψῃkampsēshould bow , ἐπουρανίωνepouraniōnin heaven καὶkaiand ἐπιγείωνepigeiōnon earth καὶkaiand καταχθονίωνkatachthoniōnunder the earth ,
11καὶkaiand πᾶσαpasaevery γλῶσσαglōssatongue ἐξομολογήσηταιexomologēsētaiconfess ὅτιhotithat ΚΥΡΙΟΣKYRIOS[is] Lord , ΙΗΣΟΥΣIĒSOUSJesus ΧΡΙΣΤΟΣCHRISTOSChrist εἰςeisto δόξανdoxan[the] glory ΘεοῦTheouof God ΠατρόςPatros[the] Father .
12ὭστεHōsteTherefore , ἀγαπητοίagapētoibeloved , μουmoumy καθὼςkathōsjust as πάντοτεpantotevvv ὑπηκούσατεhypēkousateyou have always obeyed , μὴmēnot ὡςhōs- ἐνenin τῇtē- παρουσίᾳparousiapresence , μουmoumy μόνονmonononly ἀλλὰallabut νῦνnynnow πολλῷpollōeven μᾶλλονmallonmore ἐνenin τῇtē- ἀπουσίᾳapousiaabsence , μουmoumy μετὰmetawith φόβουphoboufear καὶkaiand τρόμουtromoutrembling . τὴνtēn- ἑαυτῶνheautōnyour σωτηρίανsōtēriansalvation κατεργάζεσθεkatergazesthecontinue to work out
13ὁhowho ΘεὸςTheosGod γάρgarFor ἐστινestinit is ὁhowho ἐνεργῶνenergōnworks ἐνenin ὑμῖνhyminyou καὶkai- τὸto- θέλεινtheleinto will καὶkaiand τὸto- ἐνεργεῖνenergeinto act ὑπὲρhyperon behalf of τῆςtēs[His] εὐδοκίαςeudokiasgood purpose .
14ΠάνταPantaeverything ποιεῖτεpoieiteDo χωρὶςchōriswithout γογγυσμῶνgongysmōncomplaining καὶkai[or] διαλογισμῶνdialogismōnarguing ,
15ἵναhinaso that γένησθεgenēstheyou may be ἄμεμπτοιamemptoiblameless καὶkaiand ἀκέραιοιakeraioipure , τέκναteknachildren ΘεοῦTheouof God ἀμώμηταamometawithout fault ἐνenin μέσῳmesōamong γενεᾶςgeneasgeneration , σκολιᾶςskoliasa crooked καὶkaiand διεστραμμένηςdiestrammenēsperverse ἐνenin οἷςhoiswhich φαίνεσθεphainestheyou shine ὡςhōsas φωστῆρεςphōstēreslights ἐνenin κόσμῳkosmō[the] world
16λόγονlogon[the] word ζωῆςzōēsof life , ἐπέχοντεςepechontesas you hold forth εἰςeisin order that καύχημαkauchēmamay boast ἐμοὶemoiI εἰςeisin order that ἡμέρανhēmeran[the] day ΧριστοῦChristouof Christ ὅτιhotithat οὐκoukvvv εἰςeis- κενὸνkenon- ἔδραμονedramonI did not run οὐδὲoude[or] εἰςeisin κενὸνkenonvain . ἐκοπίασαekopiasalabor
17ἀλλ’all’Instead , εἰeiif καὶkaieven σπένδομαιspendomaiI am being poured out like a drink offering ἐπὶepion τῇtēthe θυσίᾳthysiasacrifice καὶkaiand λειτουργίᾳleitourgiaservice τῆςtēsof πίστεωςpisteōsfaith , ὑμῶνhymōnyour χαίρωchairōI am glad καὶkaiand συγχαίρωsugkhairorejoice with πᾶσινpasinall ὑμῖνhyminof you .
18τὸto- δ’d’but αὐτὸautoSo καὶkaitoo ὑμεῖςhymeisyou χαίρετεchaireteshould be glad καὶkaiand συγχαίρετέsugkhaireterejoice with μοιmoime .
19ἘλπίζωElpizōI hope δὲdeNow ἐνenin ΚυρίῳKyriō[the] Lord ἸησοῦIēsouJesus ΤιμόθεονTimotheonTimothy ταχέωςtacheōssoon , πέμψαιpempsaito send ὑμῖνhyminto you ἵναhinathat κἀγὼkagōI also εὐψυχῶeupsychōmay be cheered γνοὺςgnouswhen I learn τὰta. . . περὶperihow ὑμῶνhymōnyou {are doing} .
20οὐδέναoudenanobody else γὰρgar- ἔχωechōI have ἰσόψυχονisopsychonlike him ὅστιςhostiswho γνησίωςgnēsiōs{will} genuinely τὰtaneeds περὶperi. . . . ὑμῶνhymōnyour μεριμνήσειmerimnēseicare for
21οἱhoithe [others] πάντεςpantesall γὰρgarFor τὰtaneeds ἑαυτῶνheautōntheir own ζητοῦσινzētousinlook after οὐounot τὰtathose ΧριστοῦChristouChrist . ἸησοῦIēsouof Jesus
22τὴνtēn- δὲdeBut δοκιμὴνdokimēnproven worth , αὐτοῦautou[Timothy’s] γινώσκετεginōsketeyou know ὅτιhotithat ὡςhōsas πατρὶpatri[with his] father τέκνονteknona child σὺνsynwith ἐμοὶemoime ἐδούλευσενedouleusenhe has served εἰςeisto [advance] τὸtothe εὐαγγέλιονeuangeliongospel .
23ΤοῦτονToutonhim μὲνmen. . . οὖνounSo ἐλπίζωelpizōI hope πέμψαιpempsaito send ὡςhōs. . . ἂνan. . . ἀπίδωapidoI see τὰtawhat happens περὶperiwith ἐμὲememe . ἐξαυτῆςexautēsas soon as
24πέποιθαpepoithaI trust δὲdeAnd ἐνenin ΚυρίῳKyriō[the] Lord ὅτιhotithat καὶkai. . . αὐτὸςautosI myself ταχέωςtacheōssoon . ἐλεύσομαιeleusomaiwill come
25ἈναγκαῖονAnankaionnecessary δὲdeBut ἡγησάμηνhēgēsamēnI thought [it] ἘπαφρόδιτονEpaphroditonEpaphroditus , τὸνton- ἀδελφὸνadelphonbrother , καὶkai- συνεργὸνsynergonfellow worker , καὶkaiand συστρατιώτηνsystratiōtēnfellow soldier , μουmouto my ὑμῶνhymōnyour δὲde[who is] also ἀπόστολονapostolonmessenger καὶkaiand λειτουργὸνleitourgonminister τῆςtēs- χρείαςchreiasneeds . μουmouto my πέμψαιpempsaito send back πρὸςprosto ὑμᾶςhymasyou
26ἐπειδὴepeidēFor ἐπιποθῶνepipothōnlonging for ἦνēnhe has been πάνταςpantasall ὑμᾶςhymasof you καὶkaiand ἀδημονῶνadēmonōnis distressed διότιdiotibecause ἠκούσατεēkousateyou heard ὅτιhoti- ἠσθένησε.esthenesehe was ill .
27καὶkaiindeed , γὰρgarvvv ἠσθένησεesthenesehe was ill . παραπλήσιονparaplēsionnearly θανάτουthanatoudied ἀλλ’all’Instead , ὦōmay be ΘεὸςTheosGod αὐτόνautonhim , ἠλέησενēleēsenhad mercy on οὐκouknot αὐτὸνautonon him δὲdeand μόνονmonononly ἀλλὰallabut καὶkaialso ἐμέemeon me , ἵναhinato μὴmēvvv λύπηνlypēnsorrow ἐπὶepiupon λύπηνlypēnsorrow . σχῶschōspare me
28ΣπουδαιοτέρωςSpoudaioterōs{I am} all the more eager οὖνounTherefore ἔπεμψαepempsato send αὐτὸνautonhim , ἵναhinaso that ἰδόντεςidonteswhen you see αὐτὸνautonhim πάλινpalinagain χαρῆτεcharēteyou may rejoice , κἀγὼkagōand I ἀλυπότεροςalypoterosless anxious . ὦōmay be
29προσδέχεσθεprosdechestheWelcome οὖνoun- αὐτὸνautonhim ἐνenin ΚυρίῳKyriō[the] Lord μετὰmetawith πάσηςpasēsgreat χαρᾶςcharasjoy , καὶkaiand τοὺςtous- τοιούτουςtoioutousmen [like him] , ἐντίμουςentimoushonor ἔχετεechetevvv
30ὅτιhotibecause διὰdiafor τὸtothe ἔργονergonwork ΧριστοῦChristouof Christ , μέχριmechri- θανάτουthanatoudied ἤγγισε,eggiseHe approached παραβουλευσάμενοςparabouleusamenosrisking τῇtē[his] ψυχῇpsychēlife ἵναhina- ἀναπληρώσῃanaplērōsēto make up for τὸto- ὑμῶνhymōnyour ὑστέρημαhysterēmadeficit τῆςtēsof πρόςprosto μεmeme . λειτουργίαςleitourgiasservice
