1ἮσανĒsanwere δὲdeThen ἐγγίζοντεςengizontesgathering around αὐτῷautō- πάντεςpantesall οἱhoithe τελῶναιtelōnaitax collectors καὶkaiand οἱhoi- ἁμαρτωλοὶhamartōloisinners ἀκούεινakoueinto listen to αὐτοῦautou[Jesus] .
2καὶkaiSo διεγόγγυζονdiegongyzonbegan to grumble οἱhoi- ΦαρισαῖοιPharisaioiPharisees καὶkaiand οἱhoi- γραμματεῖςgrammateisscribes λέγοντεςlegontes- ὅτιhoti- : ΟὗτοςHoutos“ This [man] ἁμαρτωλοὺςhamartōloussinners προσδέχεταιprosdechetaiwelcomes καὶkaiand συνεσθίειsynesthieieats with αὐτοῖςautoisthem . ”
3εἰπὲeipesay δὲdeThen πρὸςpros. . . αὐτοὺςautousthem τὴνtēn- παραβολὴνparabolēnparable ταύτηνtautēnthis λέγωνlegōn- :
4ΤίςTis“ What ἄνθρωποςanthrōposman ἐξexamong ὑμῶνhymōnyou , ἔχωνechōn[if] he has ἑκατὸνhekatona hundred πρόβαταprobatasheep καὶkaiand ἀπολέσαςapolesasloses ἓνhenone ἐξexof αὐτῶνautōnthem , οὐou{does} not καταλείπειkataleipeileave τὰtathe ἐνενήκονταenenēkontaninety-nine ἐννέαennea. . . ἐνenin τῇthe ἐρήμῳerēmōpasture καὶkaiand πορεύεταιporeuetaigo ἐπὶepiafter τὸtothe [one] ἀπολωλὸςapolōlosthat is lost , ἕωςheōsuntil οὐou{does} not εὕρῃheurēhe finds αὐτόautoit ?
5καὶkaiAnd εὑρὼνheurōnwhen he finds [it] , ἐπιτίθησινepitithēsinhe joyfully puts [it] ἐπὶepion τοὺςtous- ὤμουςōmousshoulders , αὐτοῦautouhis χαίρωνchairōn. . .
6καὶkaiAnd ἐλθὼνelthōncomes εἰςeisvvv τὸνtonvvv οἶκονoikonhome , συγκαλεῖsugkalei[and] calls together τοὺςtous[his] φίλουςphilousfriends καὶkaiand τοὺςtous- γείτοναςgeitonasneighbors λέγωνlegōnto tell αὐτοῖςautoisthem , συγχάρητέsugkharete‘ Rejoice with μοιmoime , ὅτιhotifor εὗρονheuronI have found τὸto- πρόβατόνprobatonsheep ! ’ μουmoumy τὸto- ἀπολωλόςapolōloslost
7λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou ὅτιhotithat οὕτωouto[this] χαρὰcharajoy ἔσταιestaithere will be [more] ἐνenin τῷ- οὐρανῷouranōheaven ἐπὶepiover ἑνὶhenione ἁμαρτωλῷhamartōlōsinner μετανοοῦντιmetanoountiwho repents ēthan ἐπὶepiover ἐνενήκονταenenēkontaninety-nine ἐννέαennea. . . δικαίοιςdikaioisrighteous ones οἵτινεςhoitineswho οὐounot χρείανchreianneed ἔχουσινechousindo μετανοίαςmetanoiasto repent .
8ĒOr τίςtiswhat γυνὴgynēwoman δραχμὰςdrachmassilver coins ἔχουσαechousawho has δέκαdekaten ἐὰνean[and] ἀπολέσῃapolesēloses δραχμὴνdrachmēn[of them] μίανmianone οὐχὶouchi{does} not ἅπτειhapteilight λύχνονlychnona lamp , καὶkai- σαροῖsaroisweep τὴνtēn[her] οἰκίανoikianhouse , καὶkaiand ζητεῖzēteisearch ἐπιμελῶςepimelōscarefully ἕωςheōsuntil ὅτουhotou. . . εὕρῃheurēshe finds
9καὶkaiAnd εὑροῦσαheurousawhen she finds [it] , συγκαλεῖsugkalei[and] calls together τὰςtas[her] φίλαςphilasfriends καὶkaiand τὰςtas[her] γείτοναςgeitonasneighbors λέγουσαlegousato say , συγχάρητέsugkharete‘ Rejoice with μοιmoime , ὅτιhotifor εὗρονheuronI have found τὴνtēn[my] δραχμὴνdrachmēncoin . ’ ἣνhēn- ἀπώλεσαapōlesalost
10οὕτω,outo[this] λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , γίνεταιginetaithere is χαρὰcharajoy ἐνώπιονenōpionin the presence τῶνtōn- ἀγγέλωνangelōnangels τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God’s ἐπὶepiover ἑνὶhenione ἁμαρτωλῷhamartōlōsinner μετανοοῦντιmetanoountiwho repents . ”
11εἰπὲeipesay δέdeThen ἌνθρωπόςAnthrōposman τιςtis“ [There was] a εἶχεeikhewho had δύοdyotwo υἱούςhuioussons .
12καὶkai- εἶπενeipensaid hoThe νεώτεροςneōterosyounger αὐτῶνautōn[son] τῷto πατρίpatri[him] , ΠάτερPater‘ Father , δόςdosgive μοιmoime τὸto- ἐπιβάλλονepiballonmy μέροςmerosshare τῆςtēsof the οὐσίαςousiasestate . ’ ΚαὶKai- διεῖλενdieilenhe divided αὐτοῖςautoisbetween them . τὸνton[his] βίονbionproperty
13ΚαὶKai- μετ’met’After οὐouvvv πολλὰςpollasa few ἡμέραςhēmerasdays , συναγαγὼνsynagagōngot everything together ἅπανταhapantaall hothe νεώτεροςneōterosyounger υἱὸςhuiosson ἀπεδήμησενapedēmēsen[and] journeyed εἰςeisto χώρανchōrancountry , μακράνmakrana distant καὶkai- ἐκεῖekei[where] διεσκόρπισενdieskorpisenhe squandered τὴνtēn- οὐσίανousianwealth αὐτοῦautouhis ζῶνzōnliving . ἀσώτωςasōtōsin wild
14ΔαπανήσαντοςDapanēsantoshad spent δὲdeAfter αὐτοῦautouhe πάνταpantaall [he had] , ἐγένετοegenetoswept λιμὸςlimosfamine ἰσχυρὰischyraa severe κατὰkatathrough τὴνtēn- χώρανchōrancountry , ἐκείνηνekeinēnthat καὶkaiand αὐτὸςautoshe ἤρξατοērxatobegan ὑστερεῖσθαιhystereisthaito be in need .
15καὶkai[So] πορευθεὶςporeutheishe went ἐκολλήθηekollēthē[and] hired himself out ἑνὶhenito a τῶνtōn- πολιτῶνpolitōncitizen τῆςtēs- χώραςchōrascountry , ἐκείνηςekeinēsof that καὶkai[who] ἔπεμψενepempsensent αὐτὸνautonhim εἰςeisinto τοὺςtous- ἀγροὺςagrousfields αὐτοῦautouhis βόσκεινboskeinto feed χοίρουςchoirous[the] pigs .
16καὶkai- ἐπεθύμειepethymeiHe longed γεμίσαιgemisaito fill τὴνtēn- κοιλίανkoilianbelly αὐτοῦautouhis ἀπὸapo- τῶνtōnthe κερατίωνkeratiōnpods ὧνhōn- ἤσθιονēsthionwere eating , οἱhoithe χοῖροιchoiroipigs καὶkaibut οὐδεὶςoudeisno one ἐδίδουedidouwould give αὐτῷautōhim [ a thing ] .
17ΕἰςEisto ἑαυτὸνheautonhis senses δὲdeFinally ἐλθὼνelthōnhe came εἰπὲeipesay ΠόσοιPosoi‘ How many μίσθιοιmisthioihired servants τοῦtouof πατρόςpatrosfather’s μουmoumy περισσεύουσινperisseuousinhave plenty ἄρτωνartōnof food ? ἐγὼegōI {am} , δὲdeBut λιμῷlimōstarving ὧδεhōdehere ἀπόλλυμαιapollymaito death !
18ἀναστὰςanastasI will get up πορεύσομαιporeusomai[and] go back πρὸςprosto τὸνton- πατέραpaterafather μουmoumy καὶkaiand ἐρῶerōsay αὐτῷautōto him , ΠάτερPater“ Father , ἥμαρτονhēmartonI have sinned εἰςeisagainst τὸνton- οὐρανὸνouranonheaven καὶkaiand ἐνώπιόνenōpionagainst σουsouyou .
19οὐκέτιouketino longer εἰμὶeimiI am ἄξιοςaxiosworthy κληθῆναιklēthēnaito be called υἱόςhuiosson . σουsouyour ποίησόνpoiēsonMake μεmeme ὡςhōslike ἕναhenaone τῶνtōnof μισθίωνmisthiōnhired servants . ”’ σουsouyour
20ΚαὶKaiSo ἀναστὰςanastashe got up ἔλθῃelthēshould come πρὸςprosto τὸνton- πατέραpaterafather . ἑαυτοῦheautouhis ἔτιetistill δὲdeBut while αὐτοῦautouhe {was} μακρὰνmakranvvv ἀπέχοντοςapechontosin the distance , εἶδενeidensaw αὐτὸνautonhim ho- πατὴρpatērfather αὐτοῦautouhis καὶkaiand ἐσπλαγχνίσθηesplanchnisthēwas filled with compassion . καὶkai- δραμὼνdramōnHe ran [to his son] , ἐπέπεσενepepesenembraced him ἐπὶepi. . . τὸνton. . . τράχηλονtrachēlon. . . , αὐτοῦautou. . . καὶkaiand κατεφίλησενkatephilēsenkissed αὐτόνautonhim .
21εἰπὲeipesay δὲde- αὐτῷautō- , hoThe υἱὸςhuiosson ΠάτερPater‘ Father , ἥμαρτονhēmartonI have sinned εἰςeisagainst τὸνton- οὐρανὸνouranonheaven καὶkaiand ἐνώπιόνenōpionagainst σουsouyou . καὶkaiand οὐκέτιouketino longer εἰμὶeimiI am ἄξιοςaxiosworthy κληθῆναιklēthēnaito be called υἱόςhuiosson . ’ σουsouyour
22εἰπὲeipesay δὲdeBut hothe πατὴρpatērfather πρὸςprosto τοὺςtous- δούλουςdoulousservants , αὐτοῦautouhis ἐξενέγκατεexenenkateBring τὴνtēnthe στολὴνstolēnrobe τὴνtēnthe πρώτηνprōtēnbest καὶkaiand ἐνδύσατεendysateput it on αὐτόνautonhim . καὶkai- δότεdotePut δακτύλιονdaktyliona ring εἰςeison τὴνtēn- χεῖραcheirafinger αὐτοῦautouhis καὶkaiand ὑποδήματαhypodēmatasandals εἰςeison τοὺςtoushis πόδαςpodasfeet .
23καὶkai- ἐνέγκαντεςenenkanteshaving τὸνtonthe μόσχονmoschoncalf τὸνton- σιτευτόνsiteutonfattened θύσατεthysate[and] kill [it] . καὶkai- φαγόντεςphagontesLet us feast εὐφρανθῶμενeuphranthōmen[and] celebrate .
24ὅτιhotiFor οὗτοςhoutosthis ho- υἱόςhuiosson μουmouof mine νεκρὸςnekrosdead ἦνēnwas καὶkaiand ἀνέζησενanezēsenis alive again ! καὶkaiand ἀπολωλὼςapolōlōslost ἦνēnHe was καὶkaiand εὑρέθηheurethēis found ! ’ καὶkaiSo ἤρξαντοērxantothey began εὐφραίνεσθαιeuphrainesthaito celebrate .
25ἦνēnHe was δὲdeMeanwhile hothe υἱὸςhuiosson αὐτοῦautou- hothe πρεσβύτεροςpresbyterosolder ἮνĒnwas ἀγρῷagrō[the] field , καὶkaiand ὡςhōsas ἐρχόμενοςerchomenoshe approached ἤγγισεeggiseHe approached τῇthe οἰκίᾳoikiahouse , ἤκουσεekouseheard συμφωνίαςsymphōniasmusic καὶkaiand χορῶνchorōndancing .
26καὶkaiSo προσκαλεσάμενοςproskalesamenoshe called ἕναhenaone τῶνtōnof the παίδωνpaidōnservants ἐπυνθάνετοepynthaneto[and] asked τίtiwhat εἴηeiē. . . . ταῦταtautawas going on
27Ho- δὲde- εἶπενeipenhe said αὐτῷautō- ὅτιhoti- , ho- ἀδελφόςadelphosbrother σουsou‘ Your ἥκειhēkeihas returned , ’ καὶkai‘ and ἔθυσενethysenhas killed ho- πατήρpatērfather σουsouyour τὸνtonthe μόσχονmoschoncalf , τὸνton- σιτευτόνsiteutonfattened ὅτιhotibecause ὑγιαίνονταhygiainontasafe and sound . ’ αὐτὸνauton. . . ἀπέλαβενapelabenhe has him back
28ὨργίσθηŌrgisthē[The older son] became angry δὲde- καὶkaiand οὐκoukvvv ἤθελενēthelenrefused εἰσελθεῖνeiseltheinto go in . ho- οὖνountherefore , πατὴρpatērfather αὐτοῦautouhis ἐξελθὼνexelthōncame out παρεκάλειparekalei[and] pleaded with αὐτόνautonhim .
29Ho- δὲdeBut ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheishe answered εἰπὲeipesay τῷ. . . πατρὶpatrifather , ἸδοὺIdou‘ Look , τοσαῦταtosautaall these ἔτηetēyears δουλεύωdouleuōI have served σοιsoiyou καὶkaiand οὐδέποτεoudepotenever ἐντολήνentolēna commandment σουsouof yours . παρῆλθονparēlthondisobeyed καὶkaiand ἐμοὶemoime οὐδέποτεoudepotevvv ἔδωκαςedōkasyou never gave ἔριφονeriphon[even] a young goat ἵναhinaso μετὰmetawith τῶνtōn- φίλωνphilōnfriends . μουmoumy εὐφρανθῶeuphranthōI could celebrate
30ὅτεhotewhen δὲdeBut ho- υἱόςhuiosson σουsouof yours οὗτοςhoutosthis ho- καταφαγώνkataphagōnsquandering σουsouyour τὸνton- βίονbionwealth μετὰmetawith πορνῶνpornōnprostitutes , ἦλθενēlthenreturns from ἔθυσαςethysasyou kill αὐτῷautōfor him ! ’ τὸνtonthe μόσχονmoschoncalf τὸνtonthe σιτευτὸνsiteutonfattened
31ho- δὲdeBut εἶπενeipen. . . αὐτῷautō- ΤέκνονTeknon‘ Son , σὺsyyou πάντοτεpantotealways μετ’met’with ἐμοῦemoume , ’ εἶeiare καὶkai‘ and πάνταpantaall τὰtathat ἐμὰema[is] mine σάsayours . ἐστινestinis
32εὐφρανθῆναιeuphranthēnaito celebrate δὲdeBut καὶkaiand χαρῆναιcharēnaibe glad , ἔδειedeiit was fitting ὅτιhotibecause ho- ἀδελφόςadelphosbrother σουsouof yours οὗτοςhoutosthis νεκρὸςnekrosdead ἦνēnwas καὶkaiand ἀνέζησε,anezeseis alive again ! καὶkaiand ἀπολωλὼςapolōlōshe was lost ἦνēnwas καὶkaiand εὑρέθηheurethēis found . ’”
