2hothe [one who] δὲdeBut εἰσερχόμενοςeiserchomenosenters διὰdiaby τῆςtēsthe θύραςthyrasgate ποιμήνpoimēn[the] shepherd ἐστιestiis τῶνtōnof the προβάτωνprobatōnsheep .
3τούτῳtoutōfor him , hoThe θυρωρὸςthyrōrosgatekeeper ἀνοίγειanoigeiopens [the gate] καὶkaiand τὰtathe πρόβαταprobatasheep τῆςtēs- φωνῆςphōnēsvoice . αὐτοῦautouhis ἀκούειakoueilisten for καὶkaiand τὰtathe ἴδιαidiaown πρόβαταprobatasheep κάλειkaleiinvite κατ’kat’by ὄνομαonomaname καὶkaiand ἐξάγειexageileads them out αὐτάauta. . . .
4καὶkaiand ὍτανHotanWhen τὰta[his] ἴδιαidiaown , πρόβαταprobatasheep ἐκβάλῃekbalēhe has brought out ἔμπροσθενemprosthenahead of αὐτῶνautōnthem , πορεύεταιporeuetaihe goes on καὶkaiand τὰta[his] πρόβαταprobatasheep αὐτῷautōhim ἀκολουθεῖakoloutheifollow ὅτιhotibecause οἴδασιoidasithey do not know τὴνtēn- φωνὴνphōnēnvoice . αὐτοῦautouhis
5ἀλλοτρίῳallotriōa stranger ; δὲdeBut οὐouvvv μὴvvv ἀκολουθήσωσιν,akolouthesosinthey will never follow ἀλλὰallain fact , φεύξονταιpheuxontaithey will flee ἀπ’ap’from αὐτοῦautouhim ὅτιhotibecause οὐκoukvvv οἴδασιoidasithey do not know τῶνtōn. . . ἀλλοτρίωνallotriōn. . . . ” τὴνtēn- φωνήνphōnēn[his] voice
6ΤαύτηνTautēnthis τὴνtēn- παροιμίανparoimianillustration , εἶπενeipenspoke αὐτοῖςautoisto them [using] ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἐκεῖνοιekeinoithey δὲdebut οὐκouk{did} not ἔγνωσανegnōsanunderstand τίναtinawhat ἦνēn- ha- ἐλάλειelaleiHe was telling αὐτοῖςautoisthem .
7ΕἶπενEipensaid οὖνounSo πάλινpalinagain , ‹αὐτοῖς›autoisto them ho- ἸησοῦςIēsous[He] ἈμὴνAmēn“ Truly , ἈμὴνAmēn“ Truly , λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , ὅτιhoti- ἐγώegōI εἰμιeimiam the θύραthyragate τῶνtōnfor the προβάτωνprobatōnsheep .
8πάντεςpantesAll ὅσοιhosoiwho ἦλθονēlthoncame πρὸprobefore ἐμοῦemouMe κλέπταιkleptaithieves εἰσὶeisiare καὶkaiand λῃσταίlēstairobbers , ἀλλ’all’but οὐκoukvvv ἤκουσανēkousandid not listen to αὐτῶνautōnthem . τὰtathe πρόβαταprobatasheep
9ἐγώegōI εἰμιeimiam the θύραthyragate . δι’di’through ἐμοῦemouMe , ἐάνeanIf τιςtisanyone εἰσέλθῃeiselthēenters σωθήσεταιsōthēsetaihe will be saved . καὶkai- εἰσελεύσεταιeiseleusetaiHe will come in καὶkaiand ἐξελεύσεταιexeleusetaigo out καὶkaiand νομὴνnomēnpasture . εὑρήσειheurēseifind
10hoThe κλέπτηςkleptēsthief οὐκoukvvv ἔρχεταιerchetaicomes εἰeionly μὴ. . . ἵναhinato κλέψῃklepsēsteal καὶkaiand θύσῃthysēkill καὶkaiand ἀπολέσῃapolesēdestroy . ἐγὼegōI ἦλθονēlthonhave come ἵναhinathat ζωὴνzōēnlife , ἔχωσιekhosithey may have καὶkaiand περισσὸνperissonin all its fullness . ἔχωσινechōsinhave [it]
11ἘγώEgōI εἰμιeimiam hothe ποιμὴνpoimēnshepherd . hoThe καλὸςkalosgood ho- ποιμὴνpoimēnshepherd ho- καλὸςkalosgood τὴνtēn- ψυχὴνpsychēnlife αὐτοῦautouHis τίθησινtithēsinlays down ὑπὲρhyperfor τῶνtōnthe προβάτωνprobatōnsheep .
12hoThe μισθωτὸςmisthōtoshired hand δὲdebut καὶkaiand οὐκoukvvv ὢνōnis ποιμήνpoimēn[the] shepherd , οὗhouhis οὐκouknot εἰσὶeisiare τὰta[and] the πρόβαταprobatasheep ἴδιαidiaown . θεωρεῖtheōrei[When] he sees τὸνtonthe λύκονlykonwolf ἐρχόμενονerchomenoncoming , καὶkaihe ἀφίησιaphiesiforgives τὰtathe πρόβαταprobatasheep καὶkaiand φεύγειpheugeiruns away . καὶkaiThen hothe λύκοςlykoswolf ἁρπάζειharpazeipounces αὐτὰautaon them καὶkaiand σκορπίζειskorpizeiscatters [the flock] . τὰtathe πρόβαταprobatasheep
13hothe δὲdebut μισθωτὸςmisthōtoshired hand φεύγειpheugeiruns away . ὅτιhoti[ The man runs away ] because μισθωτόςmisthōtosa hired servant ἐστιestiis καὶkaiand οὐouvvv μέλειmeleiis unconcerned αὐτῷautō. . . περὶperifor τῶνtōnthe προβάτωνprobatōnsheep .
14ἘγώEgōI εἰμιeimiam hothe ποιμὴνpoimēnshepherd . ho- καλόςkalosgood καὶkai- γινώσκωginōskōI know τὰta- ἐμὰemaMy [sheep] καὶkaiand γινώσκομαιginoskomaiknow ὑπὸhypoby τὸνtonthe ἡμῶνhēmōn. . .
15καθὼςkathōsjust as γινώσκειginōskeiknows μεmeMe hothe ΠατὴρPatērFather κἀγὼkagōand I γινώσκωginōskōknow τὸνtonthe ΠατέραPateraFather . καὶkaiAnd τὴνtēn- ψυχήνpsychēnlife μουmouMy τίθημιtithēmiI lay down ὑπὲρhyperfor τῶνtōnthe προβάτωνprobatōnsheep .
16καὶkai- ἄλλαallaother πρόβαταprobatasheep ἔχωechōI have hathat οὐκouknot ἔστινestinare ἐκekof τῆςtēs- αὐλῆςaulēsfold . ταύτηςtautēsthis κἀκεῖναkakeinathem in as well , μεmeI δεῖdeimust ἀγαγεῖνagageinbring καὶkaiand τῆςtēs- φωνῆςphōnēsvoice . μουmouMy ἀκούσουσι,akousousiwill hear καὶkaiand γενήσεταιgenēsetaiwill not be μίαmiaone ποίμνηpoimnēflock εἷςheis[and] one ποιμήνpoimēnshepherd .
17ΔιὰDiaThe reason τοῦτόtouto. . . μεmeMe hothe ΠατὴρPatērFather ἀγαπᾷagapaloves ὅτιhoti[is] that ἐγὼegōI τίθημιtithēmilay down τὴνtēn- ψυχήνpsychēnlife μουmouMy ἵναhinain order πάλινpalinagain . λάβωlabōto take it up αὐτήνautēn. . .
18οὐδεὶςoudeisNo one αἴρει*aireitakes αὐτὴνautēnit ἀπ’ap’from ἐμοῦemouMe , ἀλλ’all’but ἐγὼegōI τίθημιtithēmilay it down αὐτὴνautēn. . . ἀπ’ap’of ἐμαυτοῦemautouMy own accord . ἐξουσίανexousianauthority ἔχωechōI have θεῖναιtheinaito lay it down αὐτήνautēn. . . καὶkaiand ἐξουσίανexousianauthority ἔχωechō- πάλινpalinagain . λαβεῖνlabeinto take it up αὐτήνautēn. . . ταύτηνtautēnThis τὴνtēn- ἐντολὴνentolēncharge ἔλαβονelabonI have received παρὰparafrom τοῦtou- ΠατρόςPatrosFather . ” μουmouMy
19ΣχίσμαSchismadivision οὖνounSo πάλινpalinAgain ἐγένετοegenetothere was ἐνenamong τοῖςtoisthe ἸουδαίοιςIoudaioisJews διὰdiabecause of τοὺςtous- λόγουςlogousmessage . τούτουςtoutous[Jesus’]
20ἔλεγονelegonsaid , δὲde- πολλοὶpolloiMany ἐξexof αὐτῶνautōnthem ΔαιμόνιονDaimoniondemon-possessed ἔχειechei“ He is καὶkaiand μαίνεταιmainetaiinsane . τίtiWhy αὐτοῦautouHim ? ” ἀκούετεakouetewould you listen to
21ἌλλοιAlloi[But] others ἔλεγονelegonreplied , ΤαῦταTauta“ These τὰtathe ῥήματαrhēmatawords οὐκouknot ἔστιestiis δαιμονιζομένουdaimonizomenouof [a man] possessed by a demon . μὴvvv δαιμόνιονdaimoniona demon δύναταιdynataiCan τυφλῶνtyphlōnof [the] blind ? ” ὀφθαλμοὺςophthalmous[the] eyes ἀνοῖγειν;anoigeinopen
22ἘγένετοEgenetotook place δὲde- τὰtathe ἐγκαίνιαegkainiaFeast of Dedication ἐνenin τοῖςtois- ἹεροσολύμοιςHierosolymoisJerusalem . καὶkaiand χειμὼνcheimōnwinter , ἦνēnIt was
23καὶkaiand περιεπάτειperiepateiwas walking ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἐνenin τῷthe ἱερῷhierōtemple [courts] ἐνenin τῇ- στοᾷstoaColonnade . τοῦtouvvv Σολομῶντος.solomontosof Solomon ,
24ἐκύκλωσανekyklōsangathered around οὖνounSo αὐτὸνautonHim οἱhoithe ἸουδαῖοιIoudaioiJews καὶkaiand ἔλεγονelegondemanded αὐτῷautō- , ἝωςHeōs“ How long πότεpote. . . τὴνtēn. . . ψυχὴνpsychēn. . . ? ἡμῶνhēmōn. . . αἴρειςaireiswill You keep us in suspense εἰeiIf σὺsyYou εἶeiare hothe ΧριστόςChristosChrist , εἰπὲ*eipetell ἡμῖνhēminus παρρησίᾳparrēsiaplainly . ”
25ἈπεκρίθηApekrithēreplied αὐτοῖςautois- , ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ΕἶπονEipon“ I already told ὑμῖνhyminyou , ” καὶkai“ but οὐouvvv πιστεύετεpisteueteyou did not believe . τὰtaThe ἔργαergaworks ha- ἐγὼegōI ποιῶpoiōdo ἐνenin τῷ- ὀνόματιonomatiname τοῦtou- ΠατρόςPatrosFather’s μουmouMy ταῦταtauta- μαρτυρεῖmartyreitestify περὶperivvv ἐμοῦemouon My behalf .
26ἀλλ’all’but ὑμεῖςhymeisyou οὐourefuse πιστεύετεpisteueteto believe . οὐourefuse γὰρgarfor ἐστὲesteyou are ἐκek- τῶνtōn- προβάτωνprobatōnsheep , τῶνtōn- ἐμῶνemōnMy καθὼςkathōsjust as ΕἶπονEipon“ I already told ὑμῖνhyminyou , ”
27τὰtaThe πρόβαταprobatasheep τὰta- ἐμὰemaMy τῆςtēs- φωνῆςphōnēsvoice ; μουmouMy ἀκούειakoueilisten for κἀγὼkagōand I γινώσκωginōskōknow αὐτὰautaon them καὶkaiand ἀκολουθοῦσίakolouthousiaccompanied by μοιmoiMe .
28κἀγὼkagōI ζωὴνzōēnlife , αἰώνιονaiōnioneternal δίδωμιdidōmigive αὐτοῖςautoisthem καὶkaiand οὐouvvv μὴvvv ἀπόλωνταιapolōntaithey will never perish εἰςeis. . . τὸνton. . . αἰῶναaiōna. . . . καὶkai- οὐχouchNo ἁρπάσειharpaseican snatch τιςtisone αὐτὰautathem ἐκekout of τῆςtēs- χειρόςcheiroshand . μουmouMy

32ἀπεκρίθηapekrithēresponded αὐτοῖςautois- , ho- ἸησοῦςIēsous[But] Jesus ΠολλὰPollamany ἔργαergaworks καλὰkalagood «ἔδειξαedeixa“ I have shown ὑμῖν»hyminyou ἐκekfrom τοῦtouthe ΠατρόςPatrosFather . μουmouMy διὰdiaFor ποῖονpoionwhich αὐτῶνautōnof these ἔργονergonvvv λιθάζετεlithazetedo you stone μὴvvv
33ἈπεκρίθησανApekrithēsansaid αὐτῷautō- , οἱhoithe ἸουδαῖοιIoudaioiJews λέγοντεςlegontes[and] asked , περὶperifor καλοῦkalou[any] good ἔργουergouwork , ” οὐou“ vvv λιθάζομένlithazomenWe are not stoning σεseYou ἀλλὰalla“ but περὶperifor βλασφημίαςblasphēmiasblasphemy , καὶkai- ὅτιhotibecause σὺsyYou , ἄνθρωποςanthrōposa man , ὢνōnwho are ποιεῖςpoieisdeclare Yourself to be σεαυτὸνseauton. . . 34ἈπεκρίθηApekrithēreplied αὐτοῖςautois- , ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ΟὐκOuknot ἔστιestiis γεγραμμένονgegrammenonwritten ἐνenin τῷ- νόμῳnomōLaw ὑμῶνhymōnyour ἘγὼEgō‘ I εἶπαeipahave said ΘεοίTheoigods ’ ? ἐστεesteyou are

36ὃνhon[ then what about the One ] whom hothe ΠατὴρPatērFather ἡγίασεegiasesanctified καὶkaiand ἀπέστειλενapesteilensent εἰςeisinto τὸνtonthe κόσμονkosmonworld ? ὑμεῖςhymeis{can} you λέγετεlegeteaccuse [Me] ὅτιhotifor ΒλασφημεῖςBlasphēmeisof blasphemy ὅτιhotifor εἶπονeiponstating that ΥἱὸςHuios[the] Son τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God ? εἰμιeimiI am
37ΕἰEiIf οὐouvvv ποιῶpoiōI am not doing τὰtathe ἔργαergaworks τοῦtouof ΠατρόςPatrosFather , μουmouMy μὴ[then] {do} not πιστεύετέpisteuetebelieve μοιmoiMe .
38εἰeiif δὲdeBut ποιῶpoiōI am doing [them] , κἂνkaneven though ἐμοὶemoiMe , μὴvvv πιστεύητεpisteuēteyou do not believe τοῖςtoisthe ἔργοιςergoisworks [themselves] , πιστεύσατε,pisteusatebelieve ἵναhinaso that γνῶτεgnōteyou may know καὶkaiand πιστεύσητεpisteusēteyou will not believe . ὅτιhotithat ἐνen[is] in ἐμοὶemoiMe , hothe ΠατὴρPatērFather κἀγὼkagōand I ἐνenam in αὐτῷautō- ,
39ἘζήτουνEzētounthey tried οὖνounAt this , πάλινpalinagain πιάσαιpiasaito seize αὐτὸνautonHim , καὶkaibut ἐξῆλθενexēlthenHe escaped ἐκek. . . τῆςtēs- χειρὸςcheirosgrasp . αὐτῶνautōntheir

41καὶkai- πολλοὶpolloiMany ἦλθονēlthoncame πρὸςprosto αὐτὸνautonHim καὶkaiand ἔλεγονelegonsaid , ὅτιhoti- ἸωάννηςIōannēsJohn μὲνmen“ Although σημεῖονsēmeiona sign , ἐποίησενepoiēsenperformed οὐδένoudennever πάνταpantaeverything δὲde- ὅσαhosa- εἶπενeipensaid ἸωάννηςIōannēs[he] περὶperiabout τούτουtoutouthis [man] ἀληθῆalēthētrue . ” ἦνēnwas
42καὶkaiAnd πολλοὶpolloimany ἐπίστευσανepisteusanbelieved εἰςeisin αὐτὸνauton[Jesus] . ἐκεῖekeiin that place
