1ΔιὰDiaTherefore τοῦτοtouto. . . , ἔχοντεςechonteshas given us τὴνtēn- διακονίανdiakonianministry , ταύτηνtautēnthis καθὼςkathōs[since God] in His ἠλεήθημενēleēthēmenmercy οὐκoukvvv ἐκκακοῦμεν,ekkakoumenwe do not lose heart .
2ἀλλ’all’but ἀπειπάμεθαapeipamethawe have renounced τὰta- κρυπτὰkryptasecret τῆςtēs- αἰσχύνηςaischynēs[and] shameful [ways] . μὴvvv περιπατοῦντεςperipatountesWe do not practice ἐνen. . . πανουργίᾳpanourgiadeceit , μηδὲmēdenor δολοῦντεςdolountesdo we distort τὸνtonthe λόγονlogonword τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God . ἀλλὰallaOn the contrary , τῇ- φανερώσειphanerōseiby open proclamation τῆςtēsof the ἀληθείαςalētheiastruth , συνιστῶντεςsunistonteswe commend ἑαυτοὺςheautousourselves πρὸςprosto πᾶσανpasanevery συνείδησινsyneidēsinconscience ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnman’s ἐνώπιονenōpionin the sight of τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouGod .
3ΕἰEiif δὲdeAnd καὶkaieven ἐστίestiI have κεκαλυμμένονkekalymmenonveiled , τὸto- εὐαγγέλιονeuangeliongospel ἡμῶνhēmōnour ἐνento τοῖςtoisthose who ἀπολλυμένοιςapollymenoisare perishing . ἐστίestiI have κεκαλυμμένονkekalymmenonveiled
4ἐνento οἷςhois- hoThe θεὸςtheosgod τοῦtou- αἰῶνοςaiōnosage τούτουtoutouof this ἐτύφλωσεetuphlosehas blinded τὰtathe νοήματαnoēmataminds τῶνtōnof ἀπίστωνapistōnunbelievers εἰςeisso τὸtovvv μὴvvv αὐγάσαιaugasaithey cannot see αὐτοῖςautoisthey τὸνtonthe φωτισμὸνphōtismonlight τοῦtouof the εὐαγγελίουeuangeliougospel τῆςtēsof the δόξηςdoxēsglory τοῦtou- ΧριστοῦChristouof Christ , ὅςhoswho ἐστινestinis εἰκὼνeikōn[the] image τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God .
5ΟὐOuvvv γὰρgarFor ἑαυτοὺςheautousourselves , κηρύσσομενkēryssomenwe do not proclaim ἀλλὰallabut ΧριστὸνChristonChrist ἸησοῦνIēsounJesus ΚύριονKyrion[as] Lord , ἑαυτοὺςheautousourselves δὲdeand δούλουςdoulousservants ὑμῶνhymōn[as] your διὰdiasake . ἸησοῦνIēsounfor Jesus’
6ὅτιhotiFor ho- ΘεὸςTheosGod , howho εἰπώνeipōnsaid , ἘκEkout of σκότουςskotousdarkness ,” φῶςphōs“ {Let} light λάμψαι,lampsaishine ὃςhos- ἔλαμψενelampsenmade His light shine ἐνenin ταῖςtais- καρδίαιςkardiaishearts ἡμῶνhēmōnour πρὸςprosto give us φωτισμὸνphōtismon[the] light τῆςtēsof the γνώσεωςgnōseōsknowledge τῆςtēsof the δόξηςdoxēsglory τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God ἐνenin προσώπῳprosōpō[the] face ἸησοῦIēsouof Jesus ΧριστοῦChristouChrist .
7ἜχομενEchomenwe have δὲdeNow τὸνton- θησαυρὸνthēsaurontreasure τοῦτονtoutonthis ἐνenin ὀστρακίνοιςostrakinoisof clay σκεύεσινskeuesinjars ἵναhinato show that [this] ὑπερβολὴhyperbolēsurpassingly great τῆςtēs- δυνάμεωςdynameōspower ēis τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheoufrom God καὶkaiand μὴnot ἐξexfrom ἡμῶνhēmōnus .
8ἐνenon παντὶpantiall [sides] , θλιβόμενοιthlibomenoiWe are hard pressed ἀλλ’all’but οὐounot στενοχωρούμενοιstenochōroumenoicrushed ; ἀπορούμενοιaporoumenoiperplexed , ἀλλ’all’but οὐκouknot ἐξαπορούμενοιexaporoumenoiin despair ;
9διωκόμενοιdiōkomenoipersecuted , ἀλλ’all’but οὐκouknot ἐγκαταλειπόμενοιenkataleipomenoiforsaken ; καταβαλλόμενοιkataballomenoistruck down , ἀλλ’all’but οὐκouknot ἀπολλύμενοιapollymenoidestroyed .
10πάντοτεpantote{We} always τὴνtēnthe νέκρωσινnekrōsindeath τοῦtou- ΚυρίουKyriouLord . ἸησοῦIēsou[of] Jesus , ἐνenin τῷ[our] σώματιsōmatibody περιφέροντεςperipherontescarry around ἵναhinaso that καὶkai{may} also the ζωὴzōēlife τοῦtou- ἸησοῦIēsouof Jesus ἐνenin τῷ- σώματιsōmatibody . ἡμῶνhēmōnour φανερωθῇphanerōthēbe revealed
11ἀεὶaei{are} always γὰρgarFor ἡμεῖςhēmeiswe οἱhoiwho ζῶντεςzōntesare alive εἰςeisto θάνατονthanatondeath παραδιδόμεθαparadidomethaconsigned διὰdiasake , ἸησοῦνIēsounfor Jesus’ ἵναhinaso that καὶkai{may} also the ζωὴzōēlife τοῦtou- ἸησοῦIēsouof Jesus φανερωθῇphanerōthēbe revealed ἐνenin τῇ- θνητῇthnētēmortal σαρκὶsarkibody . ἡμῶνhēmōnour
12ὥστεhōsteSo then ho- , μὴνmēnmonth . θάνατοςthanatosdeath ἐνenin ἡμῖνhēminus , ἐνεργεῖταιenergeitaiis at work - δὲdebut ζωὴzōēlife [is at work] ἐνenin ὑμῖνhyminyou .
13ἜχοντεςEchonteswho have δὲdeAnd τὸto- αὐτὸautosame πνεῦμαpneumaspirit τῆςtēs- πίστεωςpisteōsof faith κατὰkatain keeping with τὸto- γεγραμμένονgegrammenonwhat is written : ἘπίστευσαEpisteusa“ I believed , διὸdiotherefore ἐλάλησαelalēsaI have spoken ,” καὶkaialso ἡμεῖςhēmeiswe πιστεύομενpisteuomenbelieve διὸdiotherefore καὶkaiand λαλοῦμενlaloumenspeak ,
14εἰδότεςeidotesknowing ὅτιhotithat hothe [One who] ἐγείραςegeirasraised τὸνtonthe ΚύριονKyrionLord ἸησοῦνIēsounJesus καὶkaivvv ἡμᾶςhēmas. . . διὰdiato ἸησοῦIēsouJesus ἐγερεῖegereiwill also raise us καὶkaivvv παραστήσειparastēseipresent [us] σὺνsynwith ὑμῖνhyminyou [ in His presence ] .
15τὰta- γὰρgar- πάνταpantaAll this [is] δι’di’for your benefit ὑμᾶςhymas. . . , ἵναhinaso that the χάριςcharisgrace πλεονάσασαpleonasasathat is extending διὰdiato τῶνtōn- πλειόνωνpleionōnmore and more [people] τὴνtēn- εὐχαριστίανeucharistianin thanksgiving , περισσεύσῃperisseusēmay overflow εἰςeisto τὴνtēnthe δόξανdoxanglory τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God .
16ΔιὸDioTherefore οὐκoukvvv ἐκκακοῦμεν,ekkakoumenwe do not lose heart . ἀλλ’all’[Though] εἰei. . . καὶkai. . . ho- ἔξωexōouter ἡμῶνhēmōnour ἄνθρωποςanthrōposself διαφθείρεταιdiaphtheiretaiis wasting away , ἀλλ’all’yet ho[self] ἔσωθενesōtheninside ἀνακαινοῦταιanakainoutaiis being renewed ἡμέρᾳhēmeraday καὶkaiby ἡμέρᾳhēmeraday .
17τὸto- γὰρgarFor παραυτίκαparautika[and] momentary ἐλαφρὸνelaphronlight τῆςtēs- θλίψεωςthlipseōsaffliction ‹ἡμῶν›hēmōnour καθ’kath’[that is] far ὑπερβολὴνhyperbolēnbeyond εἰςeis. . . ὑπερβολὴνhyperbolēn. . . αἰώνιονaiōnionan eternal βάροςbaroscomparison . δόξηςdoxēsglory κατεργάζεταιkatergazetaiis producing ἡμῖνhēminfor us
18μὴnot σκοπούντωνskopountōnfix our eyes ἡμῶνhēmōn[So] we τὰtaon what βλεπόμεναblepomenais seen , ἀλλὰallabut τὰtaon what μὴvvv βλεπόμεναblepomenais unseen . τὰtawhat γὰρgarFor βλεπόμεναblepomenais unseen . πρόσκαιραproskaira[is] temporary , τὰtawhat δὲdebut μὴvvv βλεπόμεναblepomenais unseen αἰώνιαaiōnia[is] eternal .
