1ἘνEnIn δὲdeSo ταῖςtais- ἡμέραιςhēmeraisdays [when] ταύταιςtautaisthose πληθυνόντωνplēthynontōnwere increasing in number , τῶνtōnthe μαθητῶνmathētōndisciples ἐγένετοegenetobegan γογγυσμὸςgongysmosto grumble τῶνtōnthe ἙλληνιστῶνHellēnistōnGrecian [Jews among them] πρὸςprosagainst τοὺςtousthe ἙβραίουςHebraiousHebraic [Jews] ὅτιhotibecause παρεθεωροῦντοparetheōrountowere being overlooked ἐνenin τῇtēthe διακονίᾳdiakoniadistribution [ of food ] . τῇtē- καθημερινῇkathēmerinēdaily αἱhai- χῆραιchēraiwidows αὐτῶνautōntheir
2ΠροσκαλεσάμενοιProskalesamenoisummoned δὲdeSo οἱhoithe δώδεκαdōdekaTwelve τὸto- πλῆθοςplēthosall τῶνtōnthe μαθητῶνmathētōndisciples εἰπὼνeipōnHe said ΟὐκOukvvv ἀρεστόνarestonunacceptable ἐστινestin“ It is ἡμᾶςhēmas[for] us καταλείψανταςkataleipsantasto neglect τὸνtonthe λόγονlogonword τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God διακονεῖνdiakonein[in order] to wait on τραπέζαιςtrapezaistables .
3ἐπισκέψασθεepiskepsastheselect οὖνountherefore , ἀδελφοίadelphoibrothers , ἄνδραςandrasmen ἐξexfrom ὑμῶνhymōnamong you μαρτυρουμένουςmartyroumenousconfirmed to be ἑπτὰheptaseven πλήρειςplēreisfull ΠνεύματοςPneumatosof [the] Spirit ἉγίουHagiou[of the] Holy καὶkaiand σοφίαςsophiaswisdom . οὓςhous[to them] καταστήσομενkatastēsomenWe will appoint ἐπὶepi- τῆςtēs- χρείαςchreiasresponsibility ταύτηςtautēsthis
4ἡμεῖςhēmeis- δὲdeand τῇtēto προσευχῇproseuchēprayer καὶkaiand τῇtēto the διακονίᾳdiakoniaministry τοῦtouof the λόγουlogouword . ” προσκαρτερήσομενproskarterēsomenwill devote ourselves
5καὶkaiand ἤρεσενēresenpleased ὁho[This] λόγοςlogosproposal ἐνώπιονenōpion. . . παντὸςpantoswhole τοῦtouthe πλήθουςplēthousgroup . καὶkai- ἐξελέξαντοexelexantoThey chose ΣτέφανονStephanonStephen , ἄνδραandraa man πλήρηplere[who was] covered πίστεωςpisteōsof faith καὶkaiand ΠνεύματοςPneumatosSpirit , ἉγίουHagiou[of the] Holy καὶkaiand ΦίλιππονPhilipponPhilip , καὶkai- ΠρόχορονProchoronProchorus , καὶkai- ΝικάνοραNikanoraNicanor , καὶkai- ΤίμωναTimōnaTimon , καὶkai- ΠαρμενᾶνParmenanParmenas , καὶkaiand ΝικόλαονNikolaonNicolas προσήλυτονprosēlytona convert [to Judaism] . ἈντιοχέαAntiocheafrom Antioch ,
6οὓςhous[these seven] ἔστησανestēsanThey presented ἐνώπιονenōpionto τῶνtōnthe ἀποστόλωνapostolōnapostles , καὶkai[who] προσευξάμενοιproseuxamenoiprayed ἐπέθηκανepethēkan[and] laid αὐτοῖςautoison them . τὰςtas[their] χεῖραςcheirashands
7ΚαὶKai[So] ὁhothe λόγοςlogosword τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God ηὔξανε,euxanegrew καὶkai- ἐπληθύνετοeplēthynetogrew ὁhoThe ἀριθμὸςarithmosnumber τῶνtōnof μαθητῶνmathētōndisciples ἐνenin ἸερουσαλὴμIerousalēmJerusalem σφόδραsphodrarapidly , πολύςpolysa great τεteand ὄχλοςochlosnumber τῶνtōnof ἱερέωνhiereōnpriests ὑπήκουονhypēkouonbecame obedient τῇtēto the πίστειpisteifaith .
8ΣτέφανοςStephanosStephen , δὲdeNow πλήρηςplērēs[who was] full πίστεωςpisteōsof faith καὶkaiand δυνάμεωςdynameōspower , ἐποίειepoieiwas performing τέραταteratawonders καὶkaiand σημεῖαsēmeiasigns μεγάλαmegalagreat ἐνenamong τῷtōthe λαῷlaōpeople .
9ἀνέστησανanestēsanresistance arose δέdeBut τινεςtines- τῶνtōn- ἐκekfrom τῆςtēswhat συναγωγῆςsynagōgēs[the] Synagogue τῆςtēsof the λεγομένηςlegomenēswas called ΛιβερτίνωνLibertinōnFreedmen , καὶkaiincluding ΚυρηναίωνKyrēnaiōnCyrenians , καὶkai- ἈλεξανδρέωνAlexandreōnAlexandrians , καὶkaiand τῶνtōnmen ἀπὸapofrom ΚιλικίαςKilikias[the provinces of] Cilicia καὶkaiand ἈσίαςAsiasAsia . συζητοῦντεςsyzētountesThey began to argue τῷtōwith ΣτεφάνῳStephanōStephen ,
10καὶkai[but] οὐκoukvvv ἴσχυονischyonthey could not ἀντιστῆναιantistēnaistand up to τῇtē[his] σοφίᾳsophiawisdom καὶkai[or] τῷtōthe ΠνεύματιPneumatiSpirit ᾧhōby whom ἐλάλειelaleihe spoke .
11ΤότεToteThen ὑπέβαλονhypebalonthey prompted ἄνδραςandras[some] men λέγονταςlegontasto say ὅτιhoti- , ἈκηκόαμενAkēkoamen“ We heard αὐτοῦautou[Stephen] λαλοῦντοςlalountosspeak ῥήματαrhēmatawords βλάσφημαblasphēmaof blasphemy εἰςeisagainst ΜωϋσῆνMōusēnMoses καὶkaiand τὸνton- ΘεόνTheon[against] God . ”
12συνεκίνησάνsynekinēsanthey stirred up τεte[So] τὸνtonthe λαὸνlaonpeople , καὶkai- τοὺςtous- πρεσβυτέρουςpresbyterouselders , καὶkaiand τοὺςtous- γραμματεῖςgrammateisscribes καὶkaiand ἐπιστάντεςepistantesconfronted [Stephen] . συνήρπασανsynērpasanThey seized αὐτὸνautonhim καὶkaiand ἤγαγονēgagonbrought [him] εἰςeisbefore τὸtothe συνέδριονsynedrionSanhedrin ,
13ἜστησάνEstēsanthey presented τεte[where] μάρτυραςmartyraswitnesses ψευδεῖςpseudeisfalse λέγονταςlegontas[who] said , ὉHo- ἄνθρωποςanthrōposman οὗτοςhoutos“ This οὐouvvv παύεταιpauetainever stops ῥήματαrhēmata. . . βλάσφημαblasphēmaof blasphemy λαλῶνlalōnspeaking κατὰkataagainst τοῦtou- τόπουtopouplace τοῦtou[against] the ἁγίουhagiouholy καὶkaiand τοῦtou[against] the νόμουnomoulaw .
14ἀκηκόαμενakēkoamenwe have heard γὰρgarFor αὐτοῦautouhim λέγοντοςlegontossay ὅτιhotithat ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ὁhoof ΝαζωραῖοςNazōraiosNazareth οὗτοςhoutos- καταλύσειkatalyseiwill destroy τὸνton- τόπονtoponplace τοῦτονtoutonthis καὶkaiand ἀλλάξειallaxeichange τὰtathe ἔθηethēcustoms ἃhathat παρέδωκενparedōkenhanded down ἡμῖνhēminto us . ” ΜωϋσῆςMōusēsMoses
15καὶkaiand ἀτενίσαντεςatenisanteslooked intently εἰςeisat αὐτὸνauton[Stephen] , ἅπαντεςhapantesall οἱhoiwho καθεζόμενοιkathezomenoiwere sitting ἐνenin τῷtōthe συνεδρίῳsynedriōSanhedrin εἶδονeidon[and] they saw that τὸto- πρόσωπονprosōponface αὐτοῦautouhis ὡσεὶhōsei[was] like πρόσωπονprosōpon[the] face ἀγγέλουangelouof an angel .
