2ἐνεφάνισάνenephanisanpresented their case δὲdeand αὐτῷautō. . . ὉHo- ἀρχιερεὺςarchiereushigh priest καὶkaiThey οἱhoi- πρῶτοιprōtoileaders τῶνtōnvvv ἸουδαίωνIoudaiōnJewish κατὰkataagainst τοῦtou- ΠαύλουPaulouPaul . καὶkaiThey παρεκάλουνparekalounurged αὐτὸνauton[Festus]
3αἰτούμενοιaitoumenoito grant them χάρινcharina concession κατ’kat’against αὐτοῦautou[Paul] ὅπωςhopōsby μεταπέμψηταιmetapempsētaisummoning αὐτὸνautonhim εἰςeisto ἸερουσαλήμIerousalēmJerusalem , ἐνέδρανenedranan ambush ποιοῦντεςpoiountes[ because ] they were preparing ἀνελεῖνaneleinto kill αὐτὸνautonhim κατὰkataalong τὴνtēnthe ὁδόνhodonway .
4ὉHo- μὲνmen- οὖνounBut ΦῆστοςPhēstosFestus ἀπεκρίθηapekrithēreplied , τηρεῖσθαιtēreisthaiis being held τὸνton“ - ΠαῦλονPaulonPaul ἐνenvvv ΚαισαρείᾳKaisareiaCaesarea ἑαυτὸνheauton[I myself] δὲdeand μέλλεινmelleinam ἐνenvvv τάχειtacheisoon . ἐκπορεύεσθαιekporeuesthaigoing there
5ΟἱHoi{let} some οὖνounSo ΔυνατοὶDynatoileaders ἐνenof ὑμῖνhyminyour φησί,phesihe said . συγκαταβάντες,sugkatabantescome down with me εἴeiif τίtianything ἐστινestinhas done ἐνen- τῷtō[this] ἀνδρὶandriman τοῦτοtoutothis ? ” κατηγορείτωσανkatēgoreitōsanand accuse αὐτοῦautouhim [there] . ”
6ΔιατρίψαςDiatripsasspending δὲde[After] ἐνenof αὐτοῖςautoisthem , ἡμέραςhēmerasdays πλείουςpleiousmore than ἢēor δέκαdekaten καταβὰςkatabas[Festus] went down εἰςeisto ΚαισάρειανKaisareianCaesarea . τῇtēThe ἐπαύριονepaurionnext day καθίσαςkathisashe sat ἐπὶepion τοῦtouthe βήματοςbēmatosjudgment seat ἐκέλευσεekeleuse[and] directed that τὸνton- ΠαῦλονPaulonPaul ἀχθῆναιachthēnaibe brought in .
7παραγενομένουparagenomenouarrived , δὲde[When] αὐτοῦautou[Paul] περιέστησανperiestēsanstood around οἱhoithe ἀπὸapofrom ἹεροσολύμωνHierosolymōnJerusalem καταβεβηκότεςkatabebēkoteswho had come down ἸουδαῖοιIoudaioiJews πολλὰpollamany καὶkai- βαρέαbareaserious αἰτιώματαaitiōmatacharges φέροντεςpherontes[came] carrying κατὰkataalong τοῦtou- ΠαύλουPaulouPaul . ἃhathat οὐκoukvvv ἴσχυονischyonthey could not ἀποδεῖξαιapodeixaiprove .
8ἀπολογουμένουapologoumenoumade his defense αὐτοῦautou[Paul] ὅτιhoti- : ΟὔτεOute. . . εἰςeisagainst τὸνtonthe νόμονnomonlaw τῶνtōnof the ἸουδαίωνIoudaiōnJews οὔτεoute[or] εἰςeisagainst τὸtothe ἱερὸνhierontemple οὔτεoute[or] εἰςeisagainst ΚαίσαράKaisaraCaesar . ” τιti. . . ἥμαρτονhēmarton“ I have committed no offense
9ὉHo- ΦῆστοςPhēstosFestus , δὲdeBut θέλωνthelōnwishing τοῖςtois. . . ἸουδαίοιςIoudaiois. . . , χάρινcharin. . . καταθέσθαιkatathesthaito do the Jews a favor ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheis- τῷtō- ΠαύλῳPaulōto Paul , εἰπὲeipesay ΘέλειςTheleis“ Are you willing εἰςeisto ἸερουσαλήμIerousalēmJerusalem , ἀναβὰςanabasto go up ἐκεῖekei- περὶperion τούτωνtoutōnthese [charges] ? ” κρίνεσθαιkrinesthaito be tried . ἐπ’ep’before ἐμοῦemoume
10εἰπὲeipesay δὲde- ὁho- ΠαῦλοςPaulosPaul «ἐπὶepibefore τοῦtouthe βήματοςbēmatosjudgment seat Καίσαρος»Kaisarosof Caesar , ἙστὼςHestōsstanding εἰμιeimi“ I am οὗhouwhere μεmeI δεῖdeiought κρίνεσθαιkrinesthaito be tried . ἸουδαίουςIoudaiousto [the] Jews , οὐδὲνouden. . . ἠδίκησα*ēdikēsaI have done nothing wrong ὡςhōsas καὶkai[yourself] σὺsyyou κάλλιονkallionvery well . ἐπιγινώσκειςepiginōskeisknow
11εἰeiIf , μὲνmenhowever γάρgarFor ἀδικῶadikōI am guilty καὶkai- ἄξιονaxionworthy θανάτουthanatouof death , πέπραχάpepracha[of] τιtianything οὐouvvv παραιτοῦμαιparaitoumaiI do not refuse τὸto- ἀποθανεῖνapothaneinto die . εἰeiif δὲdeBut οὐδένoudenno ἐστινestinthere is ὧνhōn[truth] οὗτοιhoutoito their κατηγοροῦσίkategorousithey are bringing against μουmouagainst me , οὐδείςoudeisno one μεme. . . δύναταιdynataihas the right αὐτοῖςautoisto them . χαρίσασθαιcharisasthaito hand me over ΚαίσαραKaisarato Caesar ! ” ἐπικαλοῦμαιepikaloumaiI appeal
12ΤότεToteThen ὁho- ΦῆστοςPhēstosFestus συλλαλήσας*syllalēsasconferred μετὰmetawith τοῦtou[his] συμβουλίουsymboulioucouncil ἀπεκρίθηapekrithē[and] replied , ΚαίσαραKaisarato Caesar . ἐπικέκλησαιepikeklēsai“ You have appealed ἐπὶepiTo ΚαίσαραKaisaraCaesar πορεύσῃporeusēyou will go ! ”
13ἩμερῶνHēmerōndays δὲde[After] διαγενομένωνdiagenomenōnhad passed , τινῶνtinōnseveral ἈγρίππαςAgrippasAgrippa ὁho- βασιλεὺςbasileusKing καὶkaiand ΒερνίκηBernikēBernice κατήντησανkatēntēsancame down εἰςeisto ΚαισάρειανKaisareianCaesarea ἀσπασόμενοιaspasomenoiwe greeted τὸνton- ΦῆστονPhēstonto Festus .
14ὡςhōs. . . δὲdeSince πλείουςpleiousseveral ἡμέραςhēmerasdays , διέτριβονdietribonthey were staying ἐκεῖekei. . . ὁho- ΦῆστοςPhēstosFestus τῷtōbefore the βασιλεῖbasileiking ἀνέθετοanethetolaid out τὰtavvv κατὰkatavvv τὸνtonvvv ΠαῦλονPaulonPaul’s case λέγωνlegōn- : ἈνήρAnērman τίςtisa certain ἐστίestiI have καταλελειμμένοςkataleleimmenosleft ὑπὸhypo[whom] ΦήλικοςPhēlikosFelix δέσμιοςdesmiosin prison .
15περὶperi. . . οὗhou. . . γενομένουgenomenouwas μουmouWhile I εἰςeisin ἹεροσόλυμαHierosolymaJerusalem , ἐνεφάνισανenephanisanpresented their case οἱhoi- ἀρχιερεῖςarchiereischief priests καὶkaiand οἱhoi- πρεσβύτεροιpresbyteroielders τῶνtōnof the ἸουδαίωνIoudaiōnJews αἰτούμενοιaitoumenoi[and] requested κατ’kat’against αὐτοῦautouhim . δίκην·dikena judgment
16πρὸςpros- οὓςhous[them] ἀπεκρίθηνapekrithēnI told ὅτιhotithat οὐκouknot ἔστινestinit is ἔθοςethos[the] Roman custom ῬωμαίοιςRhōmaiois. . . χαρίζεσθαίcharizesthaito hand τιναtinaa ἄνθρωπονanthrōponman {over} εἰςeisin ἀπώλειανapōleian. . . πρὶνprinbefore ἢē- ὁho[he] κατηγορούμενοςkatēgoroumenos. . . κατὰkatato πρόσωπονprosōponface ἔχοιechoi- τοὺςtous[his] κατηγόρουςkatēgorousaccusers τόπονtopon[an] opportunity τεteand ἀπολογίαςapologiasdefend himself λάβοιlaboihas had περὶperiagainst τοῦtou[their] ἐγκλήματοςenklēmatoscharges .
17ΣυνελθόντωνSynelthontōncame οὖνounSo [when] [αὐτῶν]autōnthey ἐνθάδεenthadehere {with me} , ἀναβολὴνanabolēndelay . μηδεμίανmēdemiannot ποιησάμενοςpoiēsamenosI did τῇtēThe ἑξῆςhexēsnext [day] καθίσαςkathisasI sat ἐπὶepion τοῦtouthe βήματοςbēmatosjudgment seat ἐκέλευσαekeleusa[and] ordered that ἀχθῆναιachthēnaibe brought in . τὸνtonthe ἄνδραandraman
18περὶperivvv οὗhou[But when his] σταθέντεςstathentesrose to speak , οἱhoi- κατήγοροιkatēgoroiaccusers οὐδεμίανoudemianvvv αἰτίανaitianthey did not charge [him] ἐπέφερονepepheron[people] brought ὧνhōn- ὑπενόουνhypenoounhad expected . ἐγὼegōI
19ζητήματαzētēmatacontentions δέdevvv τιναtinasome περὶperiregarding τῆςtēs[their] ἰδίαςidiasown δεισιδαιμονίαςdeisidaimoniasreligion εἶχονeichonThey only had πρὸςproswith αὐτὸνautonhim καὶkaiand περίperi- τινοςtinosa certain ἸησοῦIēsouJesus τεθνηκότοςtethnēkotos[who] had died , ὃνhon[but] whom ἔφασκενephaskenaffirmed ὁho- ΠαῦλοςPaulosPaul ζῆνzēnto be alive .
20ἈπορούμενοςAporoumenoswas at a loss δὲde[Since] ἐγὼegōI τὴνtēn- περὶperias to τούτωνtoutōnthese [matters] , ζήτησινzētēsinhow to investigate ἔλεγονelegonI asked εἰeiif βούλοιτοbouloitohe was willing πορεύεσθαιporeuesthaito go εἰςeisto ἹεροσόλυμαHierosolymaJerusalem κἀκεῖkakeiand κρίνεσθαιkrinesthaibe tried {there} περὶperion τούτωνtoutōnthese [charges] .
21τοῦtou- δὲdeBut [when] ΠαύλουPaulouPaul ἐπικαλεσαμένουepikalesamenouappealed τηρηθῆναιtērēthēnaito be held over αὐτὸνauton- εἰςeisfor τὴνtēnthe τοῦtouof the ΣεβαστοῦSebastouEmperor , διάγνωσινdiagnōsindecision ἐκέλευσαekeleusaI ordered that τηρεῖσθαιtēreisthaibe held αὐτὸνautonhe ἕωςheōsuntil οὗhou- πέμψωpempsō‘ I will send αὐτὸνautonhim πρὸςprosto ΚαίσαραKaisaraCaesar . ”
22ἈγρίππαςAgrippasAgrippa δὲdeThen πρὸςpros[said] to τὸνton- ΦῆστονPhēstonFestus , ἔφηephēHe said ἘβουλόμηνEboulomēn“ I would like καὶkai- αὐτὸςautosmyself . ” τοῦtou[this] ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouman ἀκοῦσαιakousaito hear ὁho- δὲdeBut ΑὔριονAurion“ Tomorrow φησίνphēsinFestus declared . ἈκούσῃAkousēyou will hear αὐτοῦautouhim , ”
23ΤῇTēThe οὖνoun- ἐπαύριονepaurionnext day ἐλθόντοςelthontoscame τοῦtou- ἈγρίππαAgrippaAgrippa καὶkaiand τῆςtēs- ΒερνίκηςBernikēsBernice μετὰmetawith πολλῆςpollēsgreat φαντασίαςphantasiaspomp καὶkaiand εἰσελθόντωνeiselthontōnentered εἰςeis. . . τὸtothe ἀκροατήριονakroatērionauditorium , σύνsynalong with τεte- τοῖςtois- χιλιάρχοιςchiliarchois[the] commanders καὶkaiand ἀνδράσιandrasimen τοῖςtois- κατ’kat’vvv ἐξοχὴνexochēnleading οὖσιousi. . . τῆςtēsof the πόλεωςpoleōscity . καὶkaiAnd κελεύσαντοςkeleusantosordered that τοῦtou- ΦήστουPhēstouFestus ἤχθηēchthēbe brought in . ὁho- ΠαῦλοςPaulosPaul
24ΚαίKaiThen φησινphēsinsaid , ὁho- ΦῆστοςPhēstosFestus ἈγρίππαAgrippaAgrippa βασιλεῦbasileu“ King καὶkaiand πάντεςpantesall οἱhoi- συμπαρόντεςsymparontesare present with ἡμῖνhēminus , ἄνδρεςandres[who] θεωρεῖτεtheōreiteyou see τοῦτονtoutonthis [man] . περὶperiabout οὗhou[him] , πᾶνpanwhole τὸtoThe πλῆθοςplēthoscommunity τῶνtōnvvv ἸουδαίωνIoudaiōnJewish ἐνέτυχόνenetychonhas petitioned μοιmoime ἔνenin τεteboth ἹεροσολύμοιςHierosolymoisJerusalem , καὶkaiand ἐνθάδεenthadehere ἐπιβοῶντεςepiboontesshouting μὴmēnot δεῖνdein[that] he ought ζῆνzēnto live αὐτὸνauton- μηκέτιmēketi[any] longer .
25ἐγὼegōI δὲdeBut καταλαβόμενοςkatalabomenosfound μηδὲνmēdennothing ἄξιονaxionworthy θανάτουthanatouof death , αὐτὸνautonhe πεπραχέναιpeprachenaihad done καὶkaiand αὐτοῦautou. . . δὲdevvv τούτουtoutou[and] since he ἐπικαλεσαμένουepikalesamenouhas now appealed to τὸνtonthe ΣεβαστὸνSebastonEmperor , ἔκριναekrinaI decided πέμπεινpempeinto send [him] . αὐτὸνautonhim
26περὶperiabout οὗhou[him] . ἀσφαλέςasphalesdefinite τιti. . . γράψαιgrapsaito write τῷtōto κυρίῳkyriō[our] sovereign one οὐκouknothing ἔχωechōI have διὸdioTherefore προήγαγονproēgagonI have brought αὐτὸνautonhim ἐφ’eph’before ὑμῶνhymōnall of you , καὶkaiand μάλισταmalistaespecially ἐπὶepibefore σοῦsouyou , βασιλεῦbasileuKing ἈγρίππαAgrippaAgrippa , ὅπωςhopōsso that τῆςtēs- . ἀνακρίσεωςanakriseōsafter this inquiry γενομένηςgenomenēs. . . σχῶschōI may have τίtisomething γράψαιgrapsaito write
27ἄλογονalogonunreasonable γάρgarFor μοιmoito me δοκεῖdokeiit seems πέμπονταpempontato send on δέσμιονdesmiona prisoner μὴmēwithout καὶkai. . . τὰςtasthe κατ’kat’against αὐτοῦautouhim . ” αἰτίαςaitiascharges σημᾶναιsēmanaispecifying
