1ΟὐδὲνOudenno ἌραAraTherefore νῦνnynpresent κατάκριμαkatakrimacondemnation τοῖςtoisfor those who [are] ἐνenin ΧριστῷChristōChrist ἸησοῦIēsouJesus . μὴ{do} not κατὰkataaccording to σάρκαsarka[the] flesh περιπατοῦσινperipatousinwalk ἀλλὰallabut κατὰkataaccording to πνεῦμαpneuma[the] Spirit .
2ho- γὰρgarFor νόμοςnomoslaw τοῦtouof the ΠνεύματοςPneumatosSpirit τῆςtēsof ζωῆςzōēslife ἐνenin ΧριστῷChristōChrist ἸησοῦIēsouJesus ἐλευθερώσῃeleutherōsēsets you free , μὴ{do} not ἀπὸapofrom τοῦtouthe νόμουnomoulaw τῆςtēs- ἁμαρτίαςhamartiasof sin καὶkaiand τοῦtou- θανάτουthanatoudeath .
3τὸtowhat γὰρgarFor ἀδύνατονadynatonwas powerless to do τοῦtouthe νόμουnomoulaw ἐνenin that ἠσθένειēstheneiit was weakened διὰdiaby τῆςtēsthe σαρκόςsarkosflesh , ho- ΘεὸςTheosGod [did] τὸνton[own] ἑαυτοῦheautouHis ΥἱὸνHuionSon πέμψαςpempsasby sending ἐνenin ὁμοιώματιhomoiōmati[the] likeness σαρκὸςsarkosman , ἁμαρτίαςhamartiasof sinful καὶkai- περὶperi[ as an offering ] for ἁμαρτίαςhamartiassin . κατέκρινεkatekrineHe [thus] condemned τὴνtēn- ἁμαρτίανhamartiansin ἐνenin τῇthe σαρκίsarkiflesh ,
4ἵναhinaso that τὸtothe δικαίωμαdikaiōmarighteous standard τοῦtouof the νόμουnomoulaw πληρωθῇplērōthēmight be fulfilled ἐνenin ἡμῖνhēminus , τοῖςtoiswho μὴ{do} not κατὰkataaccording to σάρκαsarka[the] flesh περιπατοῦσινperipatousinwalk ἀλλὰallabut κατὰkataaccording to πνεῦμαpneuma[the] Spirit .
5ΟἱHoiThose γὰρgar- κατὰkataaccording to σάρκαsarka[the] flesh ὄντεςonteswho live τὰtaon the things τῆςtēsof the σαρκὸςsarkosflesh ; φρονοῦσινphronousinset their minds ΟἱHoiThose δὲdebut κατὰkataaccording to πνεῦμαpneuma[the] Spirit τὰta[set their minds on] the things τοῦtouof the πνεύματοςpneumatosSpirit .
6τὸtoThe γὰρgar- φρόνημαphronēmamind τῆςtēsof the σαρκὸςsarkosflesh θάνατοςthanatos[is] death , τὸtothe δὲdebut φρόνημαphronēmamind τοῦtouof the πνεύματοςpneumatosSpirit ζωὴzōē[is] life καὶkaiand εἰρήνηeirēnēpeace , διότιdiotibecause τὸtothe φρόνημαphronēmamind τῆςtēsof the σαρκὸςsarkosflesh ἔχθραechthra[is] hostile εἰςeisto ΘεόνTheonGod :
7τῷto γὰρgar- νόμῳnomōlaw , τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouGod’s οὐχouchvvv ὑποτάσσεταιhypotassetaiIt does not submit οὐδὲoudenor γὰρgarvvv δύναταιdynataican it [do so] .
8οἱhoiThose δὲde- ἐνencontrolled by σαρκὶsarki[the] flesh ὄντεςontes- ΘεῷTheōGod . ἀρέσαιaresaiplease οὐouvvv δύνανταιdynantaicannot
9ὙμεῖςHymeisYou , δὲdehowever , οὐκoukvvv ἐστὲesteare ἐνencontrolled not by σαρκὶsarki[the] flesh , Ἀλλ’All’No , ἐνenin πνεύματιpneumatispirit εἴπερeiperif indeed ΠνεῦμαPneumaSpirit ΘεοῦTheouGod’s οἰκεῖoikeiis living ἐνenin ὑμῖνhyminyou , εἰeiif δὲdeAnd τιςtisanyone ΠνεῦμαPneuma[the] Spirit ΧριστοῦChristouof Christ , οὐκouk{does} not ἔχειecheihave οὗτοςhoutoshe οὐκouk{does} not ἔστινestinbelong αὐτοῦautouto [Christ] .
10εἰeiif δὲdeBut ΧριστὸςChristosChrist ἐνen[is] in ὑμῖνhyminyou , τὸto[your] μὲνmen- σῶμαsōmabody [is] νεκρὸνnekrondead δι’di’vvv ἁμαρτίανhamartiansin , τὸto[your] δὲdeyet πνεῦμαpneumaspirit ζωὴzōē[is] alive διὰdiabecause of δικαιοσύνηνdikaiosynēnrighteousness .
11εἰeiif δὲdeAnd τὸtothe ΠνεῦμαPneumaSpirit τοῦtouof Him ἐγείραντοςegeirantoswho raised τὸνton- ἸησοῦνIēsounJesus ἐκekfrom νεκρῶνnekrōn[the] dead οἰκεῖoikeiis living ἐνenin ὑμῖνhyminyou , hoHe who ἐγείραςegeirasraised τὸνton- ΧριστὸνChristonChrist «ἐκekfrom νεκρῶν»nekrōn[the] dead ζωοποιήσειzōopoiēseiwill also give life καὶkaivvv τὰta- θνητὰthnētamortal σώματαsōmatabodies ὑμῶνhymōnto your διὰdiathrough τὸtothe ἐνοικοῦνenoikoundwelling αὐτοῦautouto [Christ] . ΠνεῦμαPneuma[the] Spirit ἐνenin ὑμῖνhyminyou .
12ἌραAraTherefore οὖνoun. . . , ἀδελφοίadelphoibrothers , ὀφειλέταιopheiletai[an] obligation , ἐσμένesmenwe have οὐou[but it is] not τῇto the σαρκὶsarkiflesh , τοῦtou- κατὰkataaccording to σάρκαsarka[it] . ζῆνzēnto live
13εἰeiif γὰρgarFor κατὰkataaccording to σάρκαsarka[it] . ζῆτεzēteyou live μέλλετεmelleteyou will ἀποθνήσκεινapothnēskeindie ; εἰeiif δὲdebut πνεύματιpneumatiby [the] Spirit τὰςtasthe πράξειςpraxeisdeeds τοῦtouof the σώματοςsōmatosbody , θανατοῦτεthanatouteyou put to death ζήσεσθεzēsestheyou will live .
14ὅσοιhosoiall who γὰρgarFor ΠνεύματιPneumatiby [the] Spirit ΘεοῦTheouof God ἄγονταιagontaiare led οὗτοιhoutoi- εἰσινeisinare υἱοίhuioisons ΘεοῦTheouof God .
15ΟὐOuvvv γὰρgarFor ἐλάβετεelabeteyou did not receive πνεῦμαpneumaa spirit δουλείαςdouleiasof slavery πάλινpalinthat returns you εἰςeisto φόβονphobonfear , Ἀλλ’All’No , ἐλάβετεelabeteyou received πνεῦμαpneuma[the] Spirit υἱοθεσίαςhuiothesiasof sonship , ἐνenby whom κράζομενkrazomenwe cry , ἈββᾶAbba“ Abba ! ho- ΠατήρPatērFather ! ”
16αὐτὸautoHimself τὸtoThe ΠνεῦμαPneumaSpirit συμμαρτυρεῖsymmartyreitestifies with τῷ- πνεύματιpneumatispirit ἡμῶνhēmōnour ὅτιhotithat ἐσμὲνesmenwe are τέκναteknachildren . ΘεοῦTheouGod’s
17εἰeiif δὲdeAnd τέκναteknachildren . καὶkaithen [we are] κληρονόμοιklēronomoiheirs : κληρονόμοιklēronomoiheirs : μὲνmen- ΘεοῦTheouof God συγκληρονόμοιsugkleronomoico-heirs δὲdeand ΧριστοῦChristouwith Christ — εἴπερeiperif indeed συμπάσχομενsympaschomenwe suffer with [Him] , ἵναhinaso that καὶkaivvv συνδοξασθῶμενsyndoxasthōmenwe may also be glorified with [Him] .
18ΛογίζομαιLogizomaiI consider γὰρgar- ὅτιhotithat οὐκouk[are] not ἄξιαaxiacomparable τὰta[our] παθήματαpathēmatasufferings τοῦtou- νῦνnynpresent καιροῦkairou. . . πρὸςprosto τὴνtēnthe μέλλουσανmellousanthat will be δόξανdoxanglory ἀποκαλυφθῆναιapokalyphthēnairevealed εἰςeisin ἡμᾶςhēmasus .
19- γὰρgar- ἀποκαραδοκίαapokaradokiain eager expectation τῆςtēsThe κτίσεωςktiseōscreation τὴνtēnfor the ἀποκάλυψινapokalypsinrevelation τῶνtōnof the υἱῶνhuiōnsons τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God . ἀπεκδέχεταιapekdechetaiwaits
20τῇto γὰρgarFor ματαιότητιmataiotētifutility , the κτίσιςktisiscreation ὑπετάγηhypetagēwas subjected οὐχouchnot ἑκοῦσαhekousaby its own will , ἀλλὰallabut διὰdiabecause of τὸνtonthe [One who] ὑποτάξανταhypotaxantasubjected [it] , ἐπ’ep’. . . ἑλπίδιhelpidihope
21ὅτι*hotithat καὶkai- αὐτὴautēitself the κτίσιςktisiscreation ἐλευθερωθήσεταιeleutherōthēsetaiwill be set free ἀπὸapofrom τῆςtēs[its] δουλείαςdouleiasbondage τῆςtēs- φθορᾶςphthorasto decay εἰςeis[and brought] into τὴνtēnthe ἐλευθερίανeleutherianfreedom τῆςtēsvvv δόξηςdoxēsglorious τῶνtōnof the τέκνωνteknōnchildren τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God .
22ΟἴδαμενOidamenWe know γὰρgar- ὅτιhotithat πᾶσαpasawhole the κτίσιςktisiscreation συστενάζειsystenazeihas been groaning together καὶkai- συνωδίνειsynōdineiin the pains of childbirth ἄχριachriuntil τοῦtou- νῦνnynthe present time .
23οὐouNot μόνονmonononly δέdethat , ἀλλὰallabut καὶkai- αὐτοὶautoiourselves , τὴνtēnthe ἀπαρχὴνaparchēnfirstfruits τοῦtouof the ΠνεύματοςPneumatosSpirit , ἔχοντεςechonteswho have καὶkai- ἡμεῖςhēmeiswe αὐτοὶautoiourselves , ἐνen. . . ἑαυτοῖςheautois. . . στενάζομενstenazomengroan υἱοθεσίανhuiothesian[our] adoption as sons , ἀπεκδεχόμενοιapekdechomenoias we wait eagerly for τὴνtēnthe ἀπολύτρωσινapolytrōsinredemption τοῦtou- σώματοςsōmatosbodies . ἡμῶνhēmōnof our
24τῇin this γὰρgarFor ἐλπίδιelpidihope ἐσώθημενesōthēmenwe were saved ; ἐλπὶςelpishope δὲdebut βλεπομένηblepomenēthat is seen οὐκoukno ἔστινestinis ἐλπίςelpishope [at all] . howhat γὰρgar- βλέπειblepeihe can already see ? τιςtis[Who] τίti. . . καὶkai. . . , ἐλπίζειelpizeihopes for
25εἰeiif δὲdeBut howhat οὐouvvv βλέπομενblepomenwe do not yet see , ἐλπίζομενelpizomenwe hope for δι’di’vvv ὑπομονῆςhypomonēspatiently . ἀπεκδεχόμεθαapekdechomethawe wait for [it]
26ὩσαύτωςHōsautōsIn the same way δὲde- καὶkai. . . , τὸtothe ΠνεῦμαPneumaSpirit συναντιλαμβάνεταιsynantilambanetaihelps us ταῖςtaisthe ἀσθενείαιςastheneiaisweakness . ἡμῶνhēmōnin our τὸtothe γὰρgarFor τίtihow προσευξώμεθαproseuxōmethato pray , καθ’kath’against ho- δεῖdeiwe ought οὐκoukvvv οἴδαμενoidamenwe do not know Ἀλλ’All’No , αὐτῷautōHim , τὸto- ΠνεῦμαPneumaSpirit ὑπερεντυγχάνειhyperentynchaneiintercedes [for us] ὑπὲρhyperfor ἡμῶνhēmōnin our στεναγμοῖςstenagmoiswith groans ἀλαλήτοιςalalētoistoo deep for words .
27hoHe who δὲdeAnd ἐρευνῶνereunonsearches τὰςtas[our] καρδίαςkardiashearts οἶδεoideknows τίti- τὸtothe φρόνημαphronēmamind τοῦtouof the ΠνεύματοςPneumatosSpirit , ὅτιhotibecause κατὰkataaccording to [the will] ΘεὸνTheon[of] God . ἐντυγχάνειentynchanei[the Spirit] intercedes ὑπὲρhyperfor ἁγίωνhagiōn[the] saints
28ΟἴδαμενOidamenwe know δὲdeAnd ὅτιhotithat τοῖςtoisof those who ἀγαπῶσιagaposilove τὸνton- ΘεὸνTheon[Him] , πάνταpanta. . . συνεργεῖsynergeiworks all things together εἰςeisfor ἀγαθόνagathon[the] good τοῖςtoisof those who κατὰkataaccording to πρόθεσινprothesin[His] purpose . κλητοῖςklētoiscalled οὖσινousinare
29ὅτιhotiFor οὓςhousthose προέγνωproegnō[God] foreknew , καὶkaivvv προώρισεprooriseHe also predestined [to be] συμμόρφουςsymmorphousconformed to τῆςtēsthe εἰκόνοςeikonosimage τοῦtouof ΥἱοῦHuiouSon , αὐτοῦautouHis εἰςeisso that τὸto- εἶναιeinaiwould be αὐτὸνautonHe πρωτότοκονprōtotokon[the] firstborn ἐνenamong πολλοῖςpolloismany ἀδελφοῖςadelphoisbrothers .
30οὓςhousthose δὲdeAnd προώρισε,prooriseHe also predestined [to be] τούτουςtoutous- καὶkaivvv ἐκάλεσε,ekaleseinvited καὶkaivvv οὓςhous[those] ἐκάλεσε,ekaleseinvited τούτουςtoutous- καὶkaivvv ἐδικαίωσενedikaiōsenHe [also] justified ; οὓςhous[those] δὲde- ἐδικαίωσε,edikaioseHe [also] justified ; τούτουςtoutous- καὶkaivvv ἐδόξασε.edoxaseHe also glorified .
31ΤίTiWhat οὖνounthen ἐροῦμενeroumenshall we say πρὸςprosin response to ταῦταtautathese things ? εἰeiIf ho- ΘεὸςTheosGod [is] ὑπὲρhyperfor ἡμῶνhēmōnus , τίςtiswho [can be] καθ’kath’against ἡμῶνhēmōnus ?
32ὅςhosHe who γεge- τοῦtou[His] ἰδίουidiouown ΥἱοῦHuiouSon οὐκouk. . . ἐφείσατοepheisatodid not spare Ἀλλ’All’No , ὑπὲρhyperfor ἡμῶνhēmōnus . πάντωνpantōnall , παρέδωκενparedōkengave αὐτόνautonHim up πῶςpōshow οὐχὶouchi{will He} not καὶkaialso , σὺνsynalong with αὐτῷautōHim , τὰtathings ? πάνταpantaall ἡμῖνhēminus χαρίσεταιcharisetaifreely give
33τίςtisWho ἐγκαλέσειenkaleseiwill bring any charge κατὰkataagainst ἐκλεκτῶνeklektōnelect ? ΘεοῦTheouGod’s ΘεὸςTheos[It is] God ho[who] δικαιῶνdikaiōnjustifies .
34τίςtisWho [is] hothere κατακρινῶνkatakrinōnto condemn [us] ? ΧριστὸςChristos[For] Christ howho ἀποθανώνapothanōndied , μᾶλλονmallonmore than that δὲdeand καὶkaiand ἐγερθείςegertheiswas raised to life , ὅςhos- καὶkaiand ἐστινestinis ἐνenat δεξιᾷdexia[the] right hand τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God — ὃςhos- καὶkaiand ἐντυγχάνειentynchaneiHe is interceding ὑπὲρhyperfor ἡμῶνhēmōnus .
35ΤίςTisWho ἡμᾶςhēmasus χωρίσειchōriseishall separate ἀπὸapofrom τῆςtēsthe ἀγάπηςagapēslove τοῦtou- ΧριστοῦChristouof Christ ? θλῖψιςthlipsis{Shall} trouble ēor στενοχωρίαstenochōriadistress ēor διωγμὸςdiōgmospersecution ēor λιμὸςlimosfamine ēor γυμνότηςgymnotēsnakedness ēor κίνδυνοςkindynosdanger ēor μάχαιραmachairasword ?
36καθὼςkathōsAs γέγραπταιgegraptaiit is written : ὅτιhoti“ - ἕνεκαhenekabecause of σοῦsou. . . θανατούμεθαthanatoumethawe face death ὅληνholēnall τὴνtēn- ἡμέρανhēmeranday long ; ἐλογίσθημενelogisthēmenwe are considered ὡςhōsas πρόβαταprobatasheep σφαγῆςsphagēsto be slaughtered .”
37Ἀλλ’All’No , ἐνenin τούτοιςtoutoisthese things πᾶσινpasinall ὑπερνικῶμενhypernikōmenwe are more than conquerors διὰdiathrough τοῦtouHim who ἀγαπήσαντοςagapēsantosloved ἡμᾶςhēmasus .
38πέπεισμαιpepeismaiI am convinced γὰρgarFor ὅτιhotithat οὔτεouteneither θάνατοςthanatosdeath οὔτεoutenor ζωὴzōēlife , οὔτεouteneither ἄγγελοιangeloiangels οὔτεoutenor ἀρχαὶarchaiprincipalities , οὔτεouteneither δυνάμειςdynameisany powers , οὔτεouteneither ἐνεστῶταenestōtathe present οὔτεoutenor μέλλονταmellontathe future ,
39οὔτεoutenor ὕψωμαhypsōmaheight οὔτεoutenor βάθοςbathosdepth , οὔτεoutenor τιςtisanything κτίσιςktisisin all creation , ἑτέραheteraelse δυνήσεταιdynēsetaiwill be able ἡμᾶςhēmasus χωρίσαιchōrisaito separate ἀπὸapofrom τῆςtēsthe ἀγάπηςagapēslove τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God τῆςtēsthat [is] ἐνenin ΧριστῷChristōChrist ἸησοῦIēsouJesus τῷ- ΚυρίῳKyriōLord . ἡμῶνhēmōnour
