2ἡμέραςhēmerasAt daybreak , τεσσαράκονταtessarakonta[where for] forty πειραζόμενοςpeirazomenosHe was tempted ὑπὸhypoby τοῦtouthe διαβόλουdiaboloudevil . ΚαὶKai- οὐκoukvvv ἔφαγενephagenHe ate οὐδὲνoudennothing ἐνenduring ταῖςtais- ἡμέραιςhēmeraisdays , ἐκείναιςekeinaisthose καὶkaiand συντελεσθεισῶνsyntelestheisōnhad ended , αὐτῶνautōn[when] they ὕστερονhysteronlast of all , ἐπείνασε.epeinasewere hungry ?
3καὶkaiand ΕἶπενEipensaid αὐτῷautōto Him , ὁhoThe διάβολοςdiabolosdevil ΕἰEi“ If ΥἱὸςHuios[the] Son εἶeiYou are τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God , εἰπὲeipetell τῷtō- λίθῳlithōstone τούτῳtoutōthis ἵναhinato γένηταιgenētaibecome ἄρτοςartosbread . ”
4ΚαὶKaiBut ἀπεκρίθηapekrithēanswered ὁho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus πρὸςpros- αὐτὸνauton- , λέγωνlegōnHe said . γέγραπταιgegraptaiit is written ὅτιhoti- : ΟὐκOukvvv ἐπ’ep’on ἄρτῳartōbread μόνῳmonōalone .’ ” ζήσεταιzēsetaishall not live ἄνθρωποςanthrōpos‘ Man ἀλλ’all’Instead , ἐπὶepion παντὶpantito everyone who ῥήματίrhēmatisay so , ἐκπορευομένῳekporevomenoproceeds διὰdiathrough στόματοςstomatoslips . ΘεοῦTheouof God , ”
5καὶkai- ἀναγαγὼνanagagōn[the devil] led Him up to a high place αὐτὸνauton. . . ὁho- διάβολοςdiabolosdevil εἰςeisto ὄροςorosmountain ὑψηλὸνhypsēlon[is] prized ἔδειξενedeixen[and] showed αὐτῷautōHim πάσαςpasasall τὰςtasthe βασιλείαςbasileiaskingdoms τῆςtēsof the οἰκουμένηςoikoumenēsworld . ἐνenin στιγμῇstigmēan instant χρόνουchronou. . .

9καὶkaiand ἬγαγενĒgagen[the devil] led αὐτὸνautonHim εἰςeisto Ἱερουσόλυμα,ierousolumaJerusalem , καὶkaiand ἔστησενestēsenset [Him] αὐτὸνautonHim ἐπὶepion τὸtothe πτερύγιονpterygionpinnacle τοῦtouof the ἱεροῦhieroutemple . καὶkai- εἶπενeipenhe said αὐτῷautō- , εἶeiYou are ΥἱὸςHuios[the] Son εἶeiYou are τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God , ” βάλεbale“ throw σεαυτὸνseautonYourself ἐντεῦθενenteuthenfrom here . κάτωkatōdown
10γέγραπταιgegraptaiit is written γὰρgarFor ὅτιhoti- : ΤοῖςTois- ἀγγέλοιςangeloisangels αὐτοῦautouHis ἐντελεῖταιenteleitai‘ He will command περὶpericoncerning σοῦsouYou τοῦtou- διαφυλάξαιdiaphylaxaito guard You carefully σεse. . . ;
11καὶkaiand ὅτιhoti- ἐπὶepiin χειρῶνcheirōn[their] hands , ἀροῦσίνarousinthey will lift σεseYou [up] μήποτεmepote. . . προσκόψῃςproskopsēsstrike πρὸςprosagainst λίθονlithona stone .’ ” τὸνton- πόδαpodafoot σουsouYour

13ΚαὶKaiWhen συντελέσαςsyntelesashad finished πάνταpantaevery πειρασμὸνpeirasmontemptation , ὁhothe διάβολοςdiabolosdevil ἀπέστηapestēhe left ἀπ’ap’. . . αὐτοῦautouHim ἄχριachriuntil καιροῦkairouan opportune time .
14ΚαὶKai- ὑπέστρεψενhypestrepsenreturned ὁho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἐνenin τῇtēthe δυνάμειdynameipower τοῦtouof the ΠνεύματοςPneumatosSpirit , εἰςeisto τὴνtēn- ΓαλιλαίανGalilaianGalilee καὶkaiand φήμηphēmē[the] news ἔξελθεexeltheCome καθ’kath’throughout ὅληςholēs. . . τῆςtēsthe περιχώρουperichōrousurrounding region . περὶperiabout αὐτοῦautouHim
15καὶkaiand αὐτὸςautosHe ἐδίδασκενedidaskentaught ἐνenin ταῖςtais- συναγωγαῖςsynagōgaissynagogues αὐτῶνautōntheir δοξαζόμενοςdoxazomenosand was glorified ὑπὸhypoby πάντωνpantōneveryone .
16ΚαὶKaiThen ἦλθενēlthen[Jesus] came εἰςeisto Ναζαρέτ,nazaretNazareth , οὗhouwhere ἦνēnHe had been τεθραμμένοςtethrammenosbrought up . καὶkai- εἰσῆλθενeisēlthenHe entered κατὰkataAs was τὸto- εἰωθὸςeiōthoscustom , αὐτῷautōHis ἦνēnHe had been τῇtēthe ἡμέρᾳhēmera. . . . τῶνtōn- σαββάτωνsabbatōnSabbath εἰςeis. . . τὴνtēnthe συναγωγήνsynagōgēnsynagogue καὶkaiAnd [when] ἀνέστηanestēHe stood up ἀναγνῶναιanagnōnaito read ,
17καὶkai- ἐπεδόθηepedothēwas handed αὐτῷautōto Him . βιβλίονbiblion[it] , ἨσαΐουĒsaiouIsaiah τοῦtouthe προφήτουprophētouprophet καὶkai- ἀναπτύξας*anaptyxasUnrolling τὸto- βιβλίονbiblion[it] , εὗρενheurenHe found τὸνtonthe τόπονtoponplace οὗhouwhere ἦνēnit was γεγραμμένονgegrammenonwritten :
18ΠνεῦμαPneuma“ [The] Spirit ΚυρίουKyriouof [the] Lord [is] ἐπ’ep’on ἐμέemeMe , ΟὗHou- εἵνεκενheinekenbecause ἔχρισέekhriseHe has anointed μεmeMe ΕὐαγγελίσασθαιEuangelisasthaito preach good news πτωχοῖςptōchoisto [the] poor . ἀπέσταλκέapestalkeHe has sent μεmeMe ἰάσασθαιiasasthaisave τοὺςtousvvv συντετριμμένουςsyntetrimmenousbroken τὴνtēnthe καρδίανkardianhearted κηρῦξαιkēryxaito proclaim αἰχμαλώτοιςaichmalōtoisto [the] captives ἄφεσινaphesinliberty ΚαὶKaiand τυφλοῖςtyphloisto [the] blind , ἀνάβλεψινanablepsinrecovery of sight ἈποστεῖλαιAposteilaito release τεθραυσμένουςtethrausmenous[the] oppressed , ἐνen. . . ἀφέσειaphesei. . .
19ΚηρῦξαιKēryxaito proclaim ἐνιαυτὸνeniauton[the] year ΚυρίουKyriouof [the] Lord’s δεκτόνdektonfavor .”
20ΚαὶKaiThen πτύξαςptyxasHe rolled up τὸtothe βιβλίονbiblionscroll , ἀποδοὺςapodousreturned [it] τῷtōto the ὑπηρέτῃhypēretēattendant , ἐκάθισε·ekathise[and] sat down . καὶkai- πάντωνpantōnof everyone ἐνenin τῇtēthe συναγωγῇsynagōgēsynagogue οἱhoiThe ὀφθαλμοὶophthalmoieyes ἦσανēsanwere ἀτενίζοντεςatenizontesfixed on αὐτῷautōHim ,
21ἤρξατοērxatoHe began δὲdeand λέγεινlegeinby saying πρὸςpros- αὐτοὺςautous- ὅτιhoti- , ΣήμερονSēmeron“ Today πεπλήρωταιpeplērōtaiis fulfilled ἡhē- γραφὴgraphēScripture αὕτηhautēthis ἐνenin τοῖςtois- ὠσὶνōsinhearing . ” ὑμῶνhymōnyour
22ΚαὶKai- πάντεςpantesAll ἐμαρτύρουνemartyrounspoke well αὐτῷautōof Him καὶkaiand ἐθαύμαζονethaumazonmarveled ἐπὶepiat τοῖςtoisthe λόγοιςlogoiswords τῆςtēs- χάριτοςcharitosgracious τοῖςtoisthe ἐκπορευομένοιςekporeuomenoiscame ἐκekfrom τοῦtou- στόματοςstomatoslips . αὐτοῦautouHis καὶkai- ἔλεγονelegonthey asked . οὐχouch[shall] not [be] οὗτοςhoutosthis ἐστινestin“ Isn’t ὁhothe υἱόςhuiosthe son ἸωσὴφIōsēphof Joseph ? ”
23καὶkai- εἰπὲeipetell πρὸςpros- αὐτοὺςautous- ΠάντωςPantōs“ Surely ἐρεῖτέereiteyou will quote μοιmoito Me : τὴνtēn- παραβολὴνparabolēnproverb ταύτηνtautēnthis ἸατρέIatre‘ Physician , θεράπευσονtherapeusonheal σεαυτόνseautonyourself ! ὅσαhosawhat ἠκούσαμενēkousamenwe have heard [that] γενόμεναgenomenaYou did ἐνenin τῇtē- Καπερναοὺμ,kapernaoumCapernaum . ποίησονpoiēsonDo καὶkai- ὧδεhōdehere ἐνenin τῇtē- πατρίδιpatridihometown σουsouYour
24εἰπὲeipetell δὲde- ἈμὴνAmēn“ Truly λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , ὅτιhoti- οὐδεὶςoudeisno προφήτηςprophētēsprophet δεκτόςdektosaccepted ἐστινestinis ἐνenin τῇtē- πατρίδιpatridihometown . αὐτοῦautouhis
25ἐπ’ep’vvv ἀληθείαςalētheiastruthfully [that] δὲdeBut λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou πολλαὶpollaimany χῆραιchēraiwidows ἦσανēsanthere were ἐνenin ταῖςtaisthe ἡμέραιςhēmeraistime ἨλίουĒliouof Elijah , ἐνenin τῷtō- ἸσραήλIsraēlIsrael ὅτεhotewhen ἐκλείσθηekleisthēwas shut ὁhothe οὐρανὸςouranossky ἐπὶepifor ἔτηetēyears τρίαtriathree καὶkaiand μῆναςmēnas. . . ἕξhexa half ὡςhōs[and] ἐγένετοegenetoswept λιμὸςlimosfamine μέγαςmegasgreat ἐπὶepiover πᾶσανpasanall τὴνtēnthe γῆνgēnland .
26καὶkaiYet πρὸςprosto οὐδεμίανoudemian[any] αὐτῶνautōnof them , ἐπέμφθηepemphthēwas [not] sent ἨλίαςĒliasElijah εἰeibut μὴmē. . . εἰςeis- ΣάρεπταSareptaof Zarephath τῆςtēs- ΣιδωνίαςSidōniasin Sidon . πρὸςprosto γυναῖκαgynaikavvv χήρανchēran[the] widow
27καὶkaiAnd πολλοὶpolloimany λεπροὶleproilepers ἦσανēsanthere were ἐπὶepiin the time ἘλισαίουElisaiouof Elisha τοῦtouthe προφήτουprophētouprophet . ἐνenin τῷtō- ἸσραὴλIsraēlIsrael καὶkaiYet οὐδεὶςoudeisnot one αὐτῶνautōnof them ἐκαθαρίσθηekatharisthēwas cleansed — εἰeionly μὴmē. . . ΝεεμὰνneemanNaaman ὁhothe ΣύροςSyrosSyrian . ”
28ΚαὶKai- ἐπλήσθησανeplēsthēsanwere enraged πάντεςpantesall [the people] θυμοῦthymou. . . . ἐνenin τῇtēthe συναγωγῇsynagōgēsynagogue ἀκούοντεςakouontesOn hearing ταῦταtauta[this] ,
29ΚαὶKai- ἀναστάντεςanastantesThey got up , ἐξέβαλονexebalondrove αὐτὸνautonHim ἔξωexōout τῆςtēsof πόλεωςpoleōs[the] town , καὶkaiand ἤγαγονēgagonled αὐτὸνautonHim ἕωςheōsto ὀφρύοςophryos[the] brow τοῦtouof the ὄρουςoroushill ἐφ’eph’on οὗhouwhich ἡhēthe πόλιςpolistown αὐτῶνautōn- ᾠκοδόμητοōkodomētowas built , εἰςeisto τῷtō- κατακρημνίσαιkatakrēmnisaito throw Him over the cliff αὐτόνauton. . . .
30αὐτὸςautos[Jesus] δὲdeBut διελθὼνdielthōnpassed διὰdiathrough μέσουmesou[the crowd] αὐτῶνautōnvvv ἐπορεύετοeporeueto[and] went on His way .
31ΚαὶKaiThen κατῆλθενkatēlthenHe went down εἰςeisto ΚαπερναοὺμkapernaoumCapernaum . πόλινpolina town τῆςtēs- ΓαλιλαίαςGalilaiasin Galilee , καὶkaiand ἐνenon διδάσκωνdidaskōnto teach αὐτοὺςautous[the people] . ἦνēnHe began τοῖςtoisthe σάββασι·sabbasiSabbath ? ”
32καὶkaiand ἐξεπλήσσοντοexeplēssontoThey were astonished ἐπὶepiat τῇtē- διδαχῇdidachēteaching , αὐτοῦautouHis ὅτιhotibecause ἦνēnhad ἐξουσίᾳexousiaauthority . ἐνen. . . ὁho. . . λόγοςlogosmessage αὐτοῦautouHis
33ΚαὶKai- ἐνenIn τῇtēthe συναγωγῇsynagōgēsynagogue ἦνēnthere was ἄνθρωποςanthrōposa man ἔχωνechōnpossessed by πνεῦμαpneuma[the] spirit δαιμονίουdaimonioudemon . ἀκαθάρτουakathartouof an unclean καὶkai- ἀνέκραξεanekraxeHe cried out φωνῇphōnēvoice , μεγάλῃmegalēin a loud λέγωνlegōnHe said .
34ἜαEa“ Ha ! τίtiWhat ἡμῖνhēminwith us , καὶkai- σοίsoido You [want] ἸησοῦIēsouJesus ΝαζαρηνέNazarēneof Nazareth ? ἦλθεςēlthesHave You come ἀπολέσαιapolesaito destroy ἡμᾶςhēmasus ? οἶδάoidaI know σεseYou τίςtiswho εἶeiare — ὁhothe ἍγιοςHagiosHoly [One] τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God ! ”
35ΚαὶKai[But] ἐπετίμησενepetimēsenrebuked αὐτῷautō[the demon] . ὁho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus λέγωνlegōnHe said . ΦιμώθητιPhimōthēti“ Be silent ! ” καὶkai“ - ἔξελθεexeltheCome ἕξhexa half αὐτοῦautouhis καὶkai- ῥίψανrhipsanthrew [the man] down αὐτὸνauton. . . τὸto- δαιμόνιονdaimoniondemon εἰςeisbefore τὸto- μέσονmesonthem all ἐξῆλθενexēlthen[and] came out ἀπ’ap’- αὐτοῦautou- μηδὲνmēdenwithout βλάψανblapsanharming αὐτόνautonhim .
36ΚαὶKai- ἐγένετοegenetowere overcome θάμβοςthamboswith amazement ἐπὶepi. . . πάνταςpantasAll [the people] ΚαὶKai- συνελάλουνsynelalounasked πρὸςpros- ἀλλήλουςallēlousone another λέγοντεςlegontes- , ΤίςTis“ What ὁho- λόγοςlogosmessage ? οὗτοςhoutos[is] this ὅτιhoti- ἐνenWith ἐξουσίᾳexousiaauthority καὶkaiand δυνάμειdynameipower ἐπιτάσσειepitasseiHe commands τοῖςtoisthe ἀκαθάρτοιςakathartoisunclean πνεύμασι,pneumasispirits , καὶkaiand ἐξέρχονταιexerchontaithey come out ! ”
37καὶkaiAnd ἐξεπορεύετοexeporeuetospread ἦχοςēchosthe news περὶperiabout αὐτοῦautou[Jesus] εἰςeisthroughout πάνταpanta. . . τόπονtopon. . . τῆςtēsthe περιχώρουperichōrousurrounding region .
38ἈναστὰςAnastas[Jesus] had left δὲdeAfter ἐκekfrom τῆςtēs- συναγωγῆςsynagōgēssynagogue , εἰσῆλθενeisēlthenHe went εἰςeisto τὴνtēnthe οἰκίανoikianhome ΣίμωνοςSimōnosof Simon , ἡhēthe πενθερὰpentheramother-in-law δὲde- τοῦtou- ΣίμωνοςSimōnos[whose] ἦνēnwas συνεχομένηsynechomenēsuffering from πυρετῷpyretōfever . μεγάλῳmegalōa high καὶkaiSo ἠρώτησανērōtēsanthey appealed αὐτὸνautonto [Jesus] περὶperion αὐτῆςautēsher [behalf] ,
39καὶkaiand ἐπιστὰςepistasHe stood ἐπάνωepanōover αὐτῆςautēsher ἐπετίμησεepetimese[and] rebuked τῷtōthe πυρετῷpyretōfever , καὶkaiand ἀφῆκενaphēkenit left αὐτήνautēnher . παραχρῆμαparachrēmaat once δὲdeAnd ἀναστᾶσαanastasashe got up διηκόνειdiēkonei[and] began to serve αὐτοῖςautoisthem .
40ΔύνοντοςDynontosAt sunset δὲde- τοῦtou. . . ἡλίουhēliou. . . , ἅπαντεςhapantesall ὅσοιhosoi. . . εἶχονeichonwho were ἀσθενοῦνταςasthenountasill νόσοιςnosoisdiseases ποικίλαιςpoikilaiswith various ἤγαγονēgagonwere brought αὐτοὺςautous. . . πρὸςprosto αὐτόνauton[Jesus] , ὁho- δὲdeand ἑνὶhenione ἑκάστῳhekastōon each αὐτῶνautōn- , τὰςtas[His] χεῖραςcheirashands ἐπιτιθεὶςepititheislaying ἐθεράπευενetherapeuenHe healed αὐτούςautousthem .
41ἐξήρχετοexērchetocame out δὲde- καὶkaialso δαιμόνιαdaimoniaDemons ἀπὸapoof πολλῶνpollōnmany [people] , κραυγάζονταkraugazontashouting καὶkai. . . λέγονταlegonta. . . , ὅτιhoti- ΣὺSy“ You εἶeiare ὁhothe ΧριστὸςChristosChrist ὁhothe ΥἱὸςHuiosSon τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God ! ” καὶkaiBut ἐπιτιμῶνepitimōnHe rebuked [ the demons ] οὐκoukvvv εἴαeia[and] would not allow αὐτὰautathem λαλεῖνlaleinto speak , ὅτιhotibecause ᾔδεισανēdeisanthey knew τὸνtonthe ΧριστὸνChristonChrist . αὐτὸνautonHe εἶναιeinaiwas
