1ΟὕτωςHoutōsSo then , ἡμᾶςhēmasus λογιζέσθωlogizesthōought to regard ἄνθρωποςanthrōposmen ὡςhōsas ὑπηρέταςhypēretasservants ΧριστοῦChristouof Christ καὶkaiand οἰκονόμουςoikonomousstewards μυστηρίωνmystēriōnof the mysteries ΘεοῦTheouof God .
2ὁhowho δὲde- λοιπὸνloipon. . . ζητεῖταιzēteitaiit is required ἐνen- τοῖςtois- οἰκονόμοιςoikonomoisof stewards ἵναhinathat πιστόςpistosfaithful . τιςtis- εὑρεθῇheurethēthey be found
3ἘμοὶEmoiI δὲdehowever εἰςeis- , ἐλάχιστόνelachiston. . . , ἐστινestincare very little ἵναhinaif ὑφ’hyph’by ὑμῶνhymōnyou ἀνακριθῶanakrithōI am judged ἢēor ὑπὸhypoby ἀνθρωπίνηςanthrōpinēsany human ἡμέραςhēmerascourt . ἀλλ’all’In fact , οὐδὲoudevvv ἐμαυτὸνemautonmyself . ἀνακρίνωanakrinōI do not even judge
4οὐδὲνouden. . . γὰρgar- ἐμαυτῷemautō. . . , σύνοιδαsynoidaMy conscience is clear ἀλλ’all’but οὐκoukvvv ἐνen- τούτῳtoutōthat δεδικαίωμαιdedikaiōmaidoes not vindicate me . ὁhowho δὲde- ἀνακρίνωνanakrinōnjudges μεmeme . ΚύριόςKyrios[the] Lord ἐστινestinIt is
5ὭστεHōsteTherefore μεmeme . πρὸprobefore καιροῦkairou[the] appointed time ; τιtinothing κρίνετεkrinetejudge ἕωςheōs[wait] until ἂνan- ἔλθῃelthēcomes . ὁhothe ΚύριοςKyriosLord ὃςhos[He] καὶkai- φωτίσειphōtiseiwill bring to light τὰtawhat is κρυπτὰkryptahidden τοῦtou- σκότουςskotousin darkness καὶkaiand φανερώσειphanerōseiwill expose τὰςtasthe βουλὰςboulasmotives τῶνtōnof [ men’s ] καρδιῶνkardiōnhearts . καὶkai- τότεtoteAt that time ὁho[his] ἔπαινοςepainospraise γενήσεταιgenēsetaiwill receive ἑκάστῳhekastōeach ἀπὸapofrom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouGod .
6ΤαῦταTautathese things δέde- ἀδελφοίadelphoiBrothers , μετεσχημάτισαmeteschēmatisaI have applied εἰςeisto ἐμαυτὸνemautonmyself καὶkaiand ἈπολλῶApollōApollos δι’di’for your benefit ὑμᾶςhymas. . . , ἵναhinaso that ἐνenfrom ἡμῖνhēminus μάθητεmathēteyou may learn τόto- ΜὴMēnot ὑπὲρhyper[to go] beyond ὃhothat γέγραπταιgegraptaiis written . φρονεῖνphroneinharmony ἵναhinaThen μὴmēvvv εἷςheisvvv ὑπὲρhyperin τοῦtou- ἑνὸςhenosone [man] φυσιοῦσθεphysioustheyou will not take pride κατὰkataover τοῦtouvvv ἑτέρουheterouanother .
7τίςtiswho γάρgarFor σεse. . . ? διακρίνειdiakrineimakes you so superior τίtiWhat δὲde- ἔχειςecheisdo you have ὃhothat οὐκoukvvv ἔλαβεςelabesyou did not receive ? εἰeiif δὲdeAnd καὶkaivvv ἔλαβεςelabesyou did receive [it] , τίtiwhy καυχᾶσαιkauchasaido you boast ὡςhōsas though μὴmēvvv λαβώνlabōn[you did not] ?
8ἤδηĒdēAlready κεκορεσμένοιkekoresmenoiyou have all you want . ἐστέestevvv ἤδηĒdēAlready ἐπλουτήσατεeploutēsateyou have become rich . χωρὶςchōrisWithout ἡμῶνhēmōnus , ἐβασιλεύσατεebasileusateyou have become kings . καὶkai- ὄφελόνophelonHow I wish γεgevvv ἐβασιλεύσατεebasileusateyou really were kings , ἵναhinaso that καὶkai- ἡμεῖςhēmeiswe ὑμῖνhyminyou ! συμβασιλεύσωμεν*symbasileusōmenmight be kings with
9δοκῶdokōit seems to me γάρgarFor ὅτιhoti- ὁhothat ΘεὸςTheosGod ἡμᾶςhēmasus τοὺςtous- ἀποστόλουςapostolousapostles ἐσχάτουςeschatousat the end [ of the procession ] , ἀπέδειξενapedeixenhas displayed ὡςhōslike ἐπιθανατίουςepithanatious[ prisoners ] appointed for death . ὅτιhoti- θέατρονtheatrona spectacle ἐγενήθημενegenēthēmenWe have become τῷtōto the κόσμῳkosmōwhole world , καὶkai- ἀγγέλοιςangeloisto angels καὶkaias well as ἀνθρώποιςanthrōpoisto men .
10ἩμεῖςHēmeisWe μωροὶmōroi[are] fools διὰdiafor ΧριστόνChristonChrist , ὑμεῖςhymeisyou δὲdebut φρόνιμοιphronimoi[are] wise ἐνenin ΧριστῷChristōChrist . ἡμεῖςhēmeisWe ἀσθενεῖςastheneis[are] weak , ὑμεῖςhymeisyou δὲdebut ἰσχυροίischyroi[are] strong . ὑμεῖςhymeisYou ἔνδοξοιendoxoi[are] honored , ἡμεῖςhēmeiswe δὲdebut ἄτιμοιatimoi[are] dishonored .
11ἄχριachriTo τῆςtēs[this] ἄρτιartivery ὥραςhōrashour καὶkai- πεινῶμενpeinōmenwe are hungry καὶkaiand διψῶμενdipsōmenthirsty , καὶkai- γυμνητεύομενgumneteuomenwe are poorly clothed , καὶkai- κολαφιζόμεθαkolaphizomethawe are brutally treated , καὶkai- ἀστατοῦμενastatoumenwe are homeless .
12καὶkai- κοπιῶμενkopiōmenWe work hard ἐργαζόμενοιergazomenoi. . . ταῖςtaiswith [our] ἰδίαιςidiaisown χερσί·khersihands , λοιδορούμενοιloidoroumenoiWhen we are vilified , εὐλογοῦμενeulogoumenwe bless ; διωκόμενοιdiōkomenoiwhen we are persecuted , ἀνεχόμεθαanechomethawe endure [it] ;
13βλασφημούμενοιvlasfimoumenoibeing-BLASPHEMED παρακαλοῦμενparakaloumenwe answer gently . ὡςhōs- περικαθάρματαperikatharmata[the] scum τοῦtouof the κόσμουkosmouearth , ἐγενήθημενegenēthēmenwe have become πάντωνpantōnof [the world] . περίψημαperipsēma[the] refuse ἕωςheōsUp to ἄρτιartithis moment
14ΟὐκOukvvv ἐντρέπωνentrepōnto shame ὑμᾶςhymasyou , γράφωgraphōI am not writing ταῦταtautathis ἀλλ’all’but ὡςhōsas τέκναteknachildren . μουmoumy ἀγαπητὰagapētabeloved νουθετῶ·nouthetowarning
15ἐὰνeanif γὰρgarEven μυρίουςmyriousten thousand παιδαγωγοὺςpaidagōgousguardians ἔχητεechēteyou have ἐνenin ΧριστῷChristōChrist , ἀλλ’all’- οὐou[you do] not πολλοὺςpollous[have] many πατέραςpaterasfathers ; ἐνenin γὰρgarfor ΧριστῷChristōChrist ἸησοῦIēsouJesus διὰdiathrough τοῦtouthe εὐαγγελίουeuangeliougospel . ἐγὼegōI ὑμᾶςhymas. . . ἐγέννησαegennēsabecame your father
16παρακαλῶparakalōI urge οὖνounTherefore ὑμᾶςhymasyou μιμηταίmimētaito imitate μουmoume . γίνεσθεginesthevvv
17ΔιὰDiaThat is why τοῦτοtouto. . . ἔπεμψαepempsaI have sent ὑμῖνhyminyou ΤιμόθεονTimotheonTimothy , ὅςhos- ἐστίestiI have τέκνονteknonchild μουmoumy ἀγαπητὸνagapētonbeloved καὶkaiand πιστὸνpistonfaithful ἐνenin ΚυρίῳKyriō[the] Lord . ὃςhos[He] ὑμᾶςhymasyou ἀναμνήσειanamnēseiwill remind τὰςtas- ὁδούςhodousway of life μουmouof my τὰςtas- ἐνenin ΧριστῷChristōChrist καθὼςkathōswhich is exactly what πανταχοῦpantachoueverywhere ἐνenin πάσῃpasēevery ἐκκλησίᾳekklēsiachurch . διδάσκωdidaskōI teach
18ὩςHōsas if μὴmēvvv ἐρχομένουerchomenouwere not coming δέde- μουmouI πρὸςprosto ὑμᾶςhymasyou . ἐφυσιώθησάνephysiōthēsanhave become arrogant , τινεςtinesSome [of you]
19ἐλεύσομαιeleusomaiI will come δὲdeBut ταχέωςtacheōsshortly , πρὸςprosto ὑμᾶςhymasyou ἐὰνeanif ὁhothe ΚύριοςKyriosLord θελήσῃthelēsēis willing , καὶkaiand [then] γνώσομαιgnōsomaiI will find out οὐounot [only] τὸνtonwhat λόγονlogonare saying , τῶνtōnthese πεφυσιωμένωνpephysiōmenōnarrogant [people] ἀλλὰallabut τὴνtēnwhat δύναμινdynaminpower [they have] .
20οὐounot γὰρgarFor ἐνena matter of λόγῳlogōtalk ἡhēthe βασιλείαbasileiakingdom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God [is] ἀλλ’all’but ἐνenof δυνάμειdynameipower .
21τίtiWhich θέλετεtheletedo you prefer ? ἐνenof ῥάβδῳrhabdōa rod , ἔλθωelthōShall I come πρὸςprosto ὑμᾶςhymasyou ἢēor ἐνenin ἀγάπῃagapēlove πνεύματίpneumatispirit ? τεteand [with] πρᾳότητος;praotetosa gentle
