1ΤὸTothe δὲdeBut πνεῦμαpneumaSpirit ῥητῶςrhētōsexpressly λέγειlegeistates ὅτιhotithat ἐνenin ὑστέροιςhysteroislater καιροῖςkairoistimes ἀποστήσονταίapostēsontaiwill abandon τινεςtinessome τῆςtēsthe πίστεωςpisteōsfaith προσέχοντεςprosechontesto follow πνεύμασιpneumasispirits , πλάνοιςplanoisdeceitful καὶkaiand διδασκαλίαιςdidaskaliais[the] teachings δαιμονίωνdaimoniōnof demons ,
2ἐνeninfluenced by ὑποκρίσειhypokrisei[the] hypocrisy ψευδολόγωνpseudologōnof liars , κεκαυστηριασμένωνkekaustēriasmenōnare seared with a hot iron . τὴνtēn- ἰδίανidian[whose] συνείδησινsyneidēsinconsciences
3κωλυόντωνkōlyontōnThey will prohibit γαμεῖνgameinmarriage ἀπέχεσθαιapechesthai[and require] abstinence βρωμάτωνbrōmatōnfrom certain foods ἃhathat ὁho- ΘεὸςTheosGod ἔκτισενektisenhas created εἰςeisto μετάληψινmetalepsinbe received μετὰmetawith εὐχαριστίαςeucharistiasthanksgiving τοῖςtoisby those who πιστοῖςpistoisbelieve καὶkaiand ἐπεγνωκόσιepegnōkosiknow τὴνtēnthe ἀλήθειανalētheiantruth .
4ὅτιhotiFor πᾶνpanevery κτίσμαktismacreation ΘεοῦTheouof God καλόνkalon[is] good , καὶkaiand οὐδὲνoudennothing ἀπόβλητονapoblētonshould be rejected , μετὰmetawith εὐχαριστίαςeucharistiasthanksgiving λαμβανόμενονlambanomenonthat is received
5ἁγιάζεταιhagiazetaiit is sanctified γὰρgarbecause διὰdiaby λόγουlogou[the] word ΘεοῦTheouof God καὶkaiand ἐντεύξεωςenteuxeōsprayer .
6ΤαῦταTautathese things ὑποτιθέμενοςhypotithemenosBy pointing out τοῖςtoisto the ἀδελφοῖςadelphoisbrothers , καλὸςkalosa good ἔσῃesēyou will be διάκονοςdiakonosservant ἸησοῦIēsouJesus , ΧριστοῦChristouof Christ ἐντρεφόμενοςentrephomenosnourished τοῖςtoisby the λόγοιςlogoiswords τῆςtēs- πίστεωςpisteōsof faith καὶkaiand τῆςtēs- καλῆςkalēssound διδασκαλίαςdidaskaliasinstruction ᾗhēthat παρηκολούθηκαςparēkolouthēkasyou have followed .
7ΤοὺςTous- δὲdeBut βεβήλουςbebēlousirreverent , καὶkai- γραώδειςgraōdeissilly μύθουςmythousmyths . παραιτοῦparaitoureject γύμναζεgymnazetrain δὲdeInstead , σεαυτὸνseautonyourself πρὸςprosfor εὐσέβειανeusebeiangodliness .
8ἡhē- γὰρgarFor σωματικὴsōmatikēphysical γυμνασίαgymnasiaexercise πρὸςprosof ὀλίγονoligonlimited ἐστὶνestinis ὠφέλιμοςōphelimosvalue , ἡhē- δὲdebut εὐσέβειαeusebeiagodliness πρὸςprosin πάνταpantaevery [way] , ὠφέλιμόςōphelimosvaluable ἐστινestinis ἐπαγγελίανepangelianpromise ἔχουσαechousaholding ζωῆςzōēslife τῆςtēsfor the [one] νῦνnynpresent καὶkaiand τῆςtēsfor the [one] μελλούσηςmellousēsto come .
9πιστὸςpistos[This is] a trustworthy ὁho- λόγοςlogossaying , καὶkai- πάσηςpasēsof full ἀποδοχῆςapodochēsacceptance . ἄξιοςaxiosworthy
10ΕἰςEisTo τοῦτοtoutothis [end] γὰρgar- καὶkaiand κοπιῶμενkopiōmenwe labor καὶkaiand ὀνειδιζόμεθαoneidizometareproach ὅτιhotibecause ἠλπίκαμενēlpikamenwe have set our hope ἐπὶepion ΘεῷTheōGod , ζῶντιzōnti[the] living ὅςhoswho ἐστίestiI have ΣωτὴρSōtēr[the] Savior πάντωνpantōnof everyone ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōn. . . , μάλισταmalista[and] especially πιστῶνpistōnof those who believe .
12ΜηδείςMēdeis{Let} no one σουsouyour τῆςtēs- νεότητοςneotētosyouth , καταφρονείτωkataphroneitōdespise ἀλλὰallabut τύποςtyposan example γίνουginouset τῶνtōnfor the πιστῶνpistōnbelievers ἐνenin λόγῳlogōspeech , ἐνenin ἀναστροφῇanastrophēconduct , ἐνenin ἀγάπῃagapēlove , ἐνenin πνεύματιpneumati[the] spirit ἐνenin πίστειpisteifaith , ἐνenin ἁγνείᾳhagneiapurity .
13ἕωςheōsUntil ἔρχομαιerchomaiI come , πρόσεχεprosechedevote yourself τῇtēto the ἀναγνώσειanagnōseipublic reading of Scripture , τῇtēto παρακλήσειparaklēseiexhortation , τῇtē[and] to διδασκαλίᾳdidaskaliateaching .
14ΜὴMē{Do} not ἀμέλειameleineglect τοῦtouthe ἐνen[that is] in σοὶsoiyou , χαρίσματοςcharismatosgift ὃhowhich ἐδόθηedothēwas given σοιsoiyou διὰdiathrough προφητείαςprophēteias[the] prophecy spoken μετὰmeta[over you] at ἐπιθέσεωςepitheseōs[the] laying on τῶνtōnof the χειρῶνcheirōnhands τοῦtouof the πρεσβυτερίουpresbyteriouelders .
15ταῦταtautain these matters μελέταmeletaBe diligent ἐνenin τούτοιςtoutoisthem , ἴσθιisthi[and] absorbed ἵναhinaso that σουsouyour ἡhē- προκοπὴprokopēprogress φανερὰphaneraevident ᾖēwill be ἐνenin πᾶσινpasinto all .
16ἔπεχεepechePay close attention σεαυτῷseautōto your [life] καὶkaiand τῇtēto [your] διδασκαλίᾳdidaskaliateaching . ἐπίμενεepimenePersevere αὐτοῖςautoisin these things , τοῦτοtouto. . . γὰρgarfor ποιῶνpoiōnby so doing καὶkaiboth σεαυτὸνseautonyourself σώσειςsōseisyou will save καὶkaiboth τοὺςtousthose who ἀκούοντάςakouontashear σουsouyou .
