1ΠαρακαλῶParakalōurge οὖνounthen , ὑμᾶςhymasyou ἐγὼegōI howho [is] δέσμιοςdesmiosprisoner ἐνenin ΚυρίῳKyriō[the] Lord , ἀξίωςaxiōsin a manner worthy περιπατῆσαιperipatēsaito walk τῆςtēsof the κλήσεωςklēseōscalling ἧςhēsvvv ἐκλήθητεeklēthēteyou have received :
2μετὰmetawith πάσηςpasēsall ταπεινοφροσύνηςtapeinophrosynēshumility καὶkaiand πρᾳότητος,praotetosof gentleness . μετὰmetawith μακροθυμίαςmakrothymiaspatience , ἀνεχόμενοιanechomenoibearing with ἀλλήλωνallēlōnone another ἐνenin ἀγάπῃagapēlove ,
3σπουδάζοντεςspoudazontes[and] with diligence τηρεῖνtēreinto preserve τὴνtēnthe ἑνότηταhenotētaunity τοῦtouof the ΠνεύματοςPneumatosSpirit ἐνenthrough τῷthe συνδέσμῳsyndesmōbond τῆςtēs- εἰρήνηςeirēnēsof peace .
4ἓνhen[There is] one σῶμαsōmabody καὶkaiand ἓνhenone ΠνεῦμαPneumaSpirit , καθὼςkathōsjust as καὶkai. . . ἐκλήθητεeklēthēteyou were called ἐνento μιᾷmiaone ἐλπίδιelpidihope τῆςtēs[when] κλήσεωςklēseōswere called ; ὑμῶνhymōnyou
5εἷςheisone ΚύριοςKyriosLord , μίαmiaone πίστιςpistisfaith , ἓνhenone βάπτισμαbaptismabaptism ;
6εἷςheisone ΘεὸςTheosGod καὶkaiand ΠατὴρPatērFather πάντωνpantōnof all , howho [is] ἐπὶepiover πάντωνpantōnall καὶkaiand διὰdiathrough πάντωνpantōnall καὶkaiand ἐνenin πᾶσινpasinall . ὑμῖνhyminyou .
7ἙνὶHenione δὲdeNow ἑκάστῳhekastōto each ἡμῶνhēmōnof us ἐδόθηedothēhas been given - χάριςcharisgrace κατὰkataaccording to τὸtothe μέτρονmetronmeasure τῆςtēsof the δωρεᾶςdōreasgift τοῦtou- ΧριστοῦChristouof Christ .
8διὸdioThis is why λέγειlegeiit says : ἈναβὰςAnabas“ When He ascended εἰςeison ὕψοςhypsoshigh , ᾐχμαλώτευσενēchmalōteusenHe led αἰχμαλωσίανaichmalōsiancaptives away , καὶkaiand ἔδωκεedokegave [it] δόματαdomatagifts τοῖςtois- ἀνθρώποιςanthrōpoisto men .”
9ΤὸTo- δὲde- ἈνέβηAnebē“ He ascended” [mean] , τίtiWhat ἐστινestin[does] εἰeiexcept μὴ. . . ὅτιhotithat καὶkaivvv κατέβηkatebēHe also descended πρῶτονprōtonFirst εἰςeisto τὰtathe κατώτεραkatōteralower μέρηmerēparts τῆςtēsof the γῆςgēsearth ?
10hoHe who καταβὰςkatabasdescended αὐτόςautosthe very ἐστίestiI have καὶkaivvv ho[One] ἀναβὰςanabaswho ascended ὑπεράνωhyperanōabove πάντωνpantōnall τῶνtōnthe οὐρανῶνouranōnheavens , ἵναhinain order πληρώσῃplērōsēto fill τὰta- πάνταpantaall things .
11ΚαὶKaiAnd αὐτὸςautos[it was] He who ἔδωκεedokegave [it] τοὺςtoussome μὲνmen- ἀποστόλουςapostolous[to be] apostles , τοὺςtoussome δὲde- προφήταςprophētas[to be] prophets , τοὺςtoussome δὲde- εὐαγγελιστάςeuangelistas[to be] evangelists , τοὺςtoussome δὲde- ποιμέναςpoimenas[to be] pastors καὶkaiand διδασκάλουςdidaskalousteachers ,
12πρὸςprosvvv τὸνtonvvv καταρτισμὸνkatartismonto equip τῶνtōnthe ἁγίωνhagiōnsaints εἰςeisfor ἔργονergonworks διακονίαςdiakoniasof ministry εἰςeis[and] οἰκοδομὴνoikodomēnto build up τοῦtouthe σώματοςsōmatosbody τοῦtou- ΧριστοῦChristouof Christ ,
13μέχριmechriuntil καταντήσωμενkatantēsōmenwe all reach οἱhoi- πάντεςpantesvvv εἰςeis. . . τὴνtēn- ἑνότηταhenotētaunity τῆςtēsin the πίστεωςpisteōsfaith καὶkaiand τῆςtēsin the ἐπιγνώσεωςepignōseōsknowledge τοῦtouof the ΥἱοῦHuiouSon τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God , εἰςeisvvv ἄνδραandravvv τέλειονteleion[as we] mature εἰςeisto μέτρονmetronmeasure ἡλικίαςhēlikiasof [the] stature τοῦtou- πληρώματοςplērōmatosfull τοῦtouthe ΧριστοῦChristouof Christ .
14ἵναhinaThen μηκέτιmēketi{we will} no longer ὦμενōmenbe νήπιοιnēpioiinfants , κλυδωνιζόμενοιklydōnizomenoitossed about by the waves καὶkaiand περιφερόμενοιperipheromenoicarried around παντὶpantiby every ἀνέμῳanemōwind τῆςtēs- διδασκαλίαςdidaskaliasof teaching ἐνen[and] by τῇthe κυβείᾳ*kybeiacunning τῶνtōn- ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnof men ἐνenvvv πανουργίᾳpanourgiaclever πρὸςprosin τὴνtēn[their] μεθοδείανmethodeianscheming . τῆςtēsvvv πλάνηςplanēsdeceitful
15ἀληθεύοντεςalētheuontesspeaking the truth δὲdeInstead , ἐνenin ἀγάπῃagapēlove , αὐξήσωμενauxēsōmengrow up εἰςeisinto αὐτὸνautonHimself , τὰta{we will} in πάνταpantaall things ὅςhoswho ἐστινestinis the κεφαλήkephalēhead . ho[One] ΧριστόςChristosChrist
16ἐξexFrom οὗhou[Him] πᾶνpanwhole τὸtothe σῶμαsōmabody , συναρμολογούμενονsynarmologoumenonfitted καὶkaiand συμβιβαζόμενονsymbibazomenonheld together διὰdiaby πάσηςpasēsevery ἁφῆςhaphēsligament , τῆςtēsvvv ἐπιχορηγίαςepichorēgiassupporting κατ’kat’through ἐνέργειανenergeian[the] work ἐνenvvv μέτρῳmetrōvvv ἑνὸςhenosindividual ἑκάστουhekastouof each μέρουςmerouspart . τὴνtēn- αὔξησινauxēsingrows τοῦtou- σώματοςsōmatos- ποιεῖταιpoieitai- εἰςeis- οἰκοδομὴνoikodomēn[and] builds itself up ἑαυτοῦheautou. . . ἐνenin ἀγάπῃagapēlove
17ΤοῦτοToutothis , οὖνounSo λέγωlegōI tell [you] καὶkaiand μαρτύρομαιmartyromaiinsist [on it] ἐνenin ΚυρίῳKyriō[the] Lord , μηκέτιmēketino longer ὑμᾶςhymas[that] you {must} περιπατεῖνperipateinwalk καθὼςkathōsas καὶkai- τὰtathe λοιπὰloipaother things ἔθνηethnēGentiles περιπατεῖperipateido , ἐνenin ματαιότητιmataiotēti[the] futility τοῦtouof νοὸςnoosthinking . αὐτῶνautōntheir
18ἐσκοτισμένοιeskotismenoiThey are darkened τῇin [their] διανοίᾳdianoiaunderstanding ὄντεςontes[and] ἀπηλλοτριωμένοιapēllotriōmenoialienated from τῆςtēsthe ζωῆςzōēslife τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God διὰdiabecause of τὴνtēnthe ἄγνοιανagnoianignorance τὴνtēn- οὖσανousanthat is ἐνenin αὐτοῖςautoisthem διὰdiadue to τὴνtēnthe πώρωσινpōrōsinhardness τῆςtēsof καρδίαςkardiashearts . αὐτῶνautōntheir
19οἵτινεςhoitines[they] ἀπηλγηκότεςapēlgēkotesHaving lost all sense of shame , ἑαυτοὺςheautous. . . παρέδωκανparedōkanhave given themselves over τῇto ἀσελγείᾳaselgeiasensuality εἰςeisfor ἐργασίανergasian[the] practice ἀκαθαρσίαςakatharsiasof impurity , πάσηςpasēsof every kind ἐνenwith πλεονεξίᾳpleonexiaa craving for more .
20ὙμεῖςHymeisyou δὲdeBut οὐχouch. . . οὕτωςhoutōsthis is not the way ἐμάθετεemathetecame to know τὸνton- ΧριστόνChristonChrist .
21εἴγεeigeif-indeed αὐτὸνautonHim ἠκούσατεēkousateyou heard of καὶkaiand ἐνenin αὐτῷautōHim — ἐδιδάχθητεedidachthētewere taught καθώςkathōsin keeping with ἐστινestinthat is ἀλήθειαalētheia[the] truth ἐνenin τῷ- ἸησοῦIēsouJesus —
22ἀποθέσθαιapothesthaito put off ὑμᾶςhymasyour κατὰkata- τὴνtēn- προτέρανproteranformer ἀναστροφὴνanastrophēnway of life , τὸνton[your] παλαιὸνpalaionold ἄνθρωπονanthrōponself , τὸνtonwhich φθειρόμενονphtheiromenonis being corrupted κατὰkataby τὰςtas[its] ἐπιθυμίαςepithymiasdesires ; τῆςtēs- ἀπάτηςapatēsdeceitful
23ἀνανεοῦσθαιananeousthaito be renewed δὲde- τῷin the πνεύματιpneumatispirit τοῦtouof νοὸςnoosminds ; ὑμῶνhymōnyour
24καὶkaiand ἐνδύσασθαιendysasthaito put on τὸνtonthe καινὸνkainonnew ἄνθρωπονanthrōponself , τὸνtonthe κατὰkatato be like ΘεὸνTheonGod κτισθένταktisthentacreated ἐνenin δικαιοσύνῃdikaiosynērighteousness καὶkaiand ὁσιότητιhosiotētiholiness . τῆςtēs- ἀληθείαςalētheiastrue
25ΔιὸDioTherefore ἀποθέμενοιapothemenoimust put off τὸto- ψεῦδοςpseudosfalsehood λαλεῖτεlaleite[and] speak ἀλήθειανalētheiantruthfully ἕκαστοςhekastoseach [of you] μετὰmetato τοῦtou- πλησίονplēsionneighbor , αὐτοῦautouhis ὅτιhotifor ἐσμὲνesmenwe are all ἀλλήλωνallēlōnof one another . μέληmelēmembers
26ὈργίζεσθεOrgizesthe“ Be angry , καὶkaiyet μὴ{do} not ἁμαρτάνετεhamartanetesin .” hothe ἥλιοςhēliossun μὴ{Do} not {let} ἐπιδυέτωepidyetōset ἐπὶepiupon τῷ- παροργισμῷparorgismōanger , ὑμῶνhymōnyour
27μηδὲmēde[and] {do} not δίδοτεdidotegive τόπονtopona foothold . τῷthe διαβόλῳdiabolōdevil
28HoHe who κλέπτωνkleptōnhas been stealing μηκέτιmēketino longer , κλεπτέτωkleptetōmust steal μᾶλλονmallon- δὲdebut κοπιάτωkopiatōmust work , ἐργαζόμενοςergazomenosdoing τὸto- ἀγαθόνagathongood ταῖςtaiswith χερσὶνchersinhands , ἵναhinathat ἔχῃechēhe may have [something] μεταδιδόναιmetadidonaito share with τῷthe [one] χρείανchreianneed . ἔχοντιechonti[in]
29ΠᾶςPas. . . λόγοςlogostalk σαπρὸςsaprosunwholesome ἐκekout of τοῦtou- στόματοςstomatosmouths , ὑμῶνhymōnyour μὴ{Let} no ἐκπορευέσθωekporeuesthōcome ἀλλ’all’Instead , εἴeionly τιςtiswhat is ἀγαθὸςagathoshelpful πρὸςprosfor οἰκοδομὴνoikodomēnbuilding up τῆςtēsthe [one] χρείαςchreiasin need ἵναhina[and] δῷbringing χάρινcharingrace τοῖςtoisto those ἀκούουσι.akouousiwill listen ,
30ΚαὶKaiAnd μὴ{do} not λυπεῖτεlypeitegrieve τὸtothe ΠνεῦμαPneumaSpirit τὸto- ἍγιονHagionHoly τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God , ἐνenin whom ἐσφραγίσθητεesphragisthēteyou were sealed εἰςeisfor ἡμέρανhēmeran[the] day ἀπολυτρώσεωςapolytrōseōsof redemption .
31ΠᾶσαPasaall πικρίαpikriabitterness , καὶkai- θυμὸςthymosrage καὶkaiand ὀργὴorgēanger , καὶkai- κραυγὴkraugēoutcry καὶkaiand βλασφημίαblasphēmiaslander , ἀρθήτωarthētōGet rid of ἀφ’aph’. . . ὑμῶνhymōn. . . σὺνsynalong with πάσῃpasēevery form κακίᾳkakiaof malice .
32γίνεσθεginestheBe δὲde- εἰςeisto ἀλλήλουςallēlousone another , χρηστοίchrēstoikind εὔσπλαγχνοιeusplanchnoi[and] tenderhearted χαριζόμενοιcharizomenoiforgiving ἑαυτοῖςheautoiseach other καθὼςkathōsas καὶkaijust ho- ΘεὸςTheosGod ἐνenin ΧριστῷChristōChrist ἐχαρίσατοecharisatoforgave ὑμῖνhyminyou .
