2οὐδὲνoudennothing δὲde[There] συγκεκαλυμμένονsynkekalymmenonconcealed ἐστὶνestinis ὃhothat οὐκoukvvv ἀποκαλυφθήσεταιapokalyphthēsetaiwill not be disclosed , καὶkaiand [nothing] κρυπτὸνkryptonhidden ὃhothat οὐouwill not γνωσθήσεταιgnōsthēsetaibe made known .
3ἀνθ’anth’vvv ὧνhōn. . . ὅσαhosaWhat ἐνenin τῇtēthe σκοτίᾳskotiadark εἴπατεeipateyou have spoken ἐνenin τῷtōthe φωτὶphōtidaylight , ἀκουσθήσεταιakousthēsetaiwill be heard καὶkaiand ὃhowhat πρὸςpros. . . τὸto. . . οὖςous. . . ἐλαλήσατεelalēsateyou have whispered ἐνenin τοῖςtoisthe ταμείοιςtameioisinner rooms κηρυχθήσεταιkērychthēsetaiwill be proclaimed ἐπὶepifrom τῶνtōnthe δωμάτωνdōmatōnhousetops .
4ΛέγωLegōI tell δὲde- ὑμῖνhyminyou , τοῖςtois- φίλοιςphiloisfriends , μουmouMy μὴmēvvv φοβηθῆτεphobēthētedo not be afraid ἀπὸapoof τῶνtōnthose who ἀποκτεννόντωνapoktennontonkill τὸtothe σῶμαsōmabody καὶkaiand μετὰmetaafter ταῦταtautathat μὴmēvvv ἐχόντωνechontōncan περισσότερόνperissoteronmore . τιtino ποιῆσαιpoiēsaido
5ὑποδείξωhypodeixōI will show δὲdeBut ὑμῖνhyminyou τίναtinawhom φοβηθῆτεphobēthēteyou should fear : φοβηθῆτεphobēthēteyou should fear : τὸνtonthe [One who] , μετὰmetaafter τὸto[you] ἀποκτεῖναιapokteinaihave been killed , ἔχονταechontahas ἐξουσίανexousianauthority ἐμβαλεῖνembaleinto throw [you] εἰςeisinto τὴνtēn- γέεννανgeennanhell . ναίnaiYes , λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , τοῦτονtoutonHim ! φοβήθητεphobēthētefear
6ΟὐχὶOuchi{Are} not πέντεpentefive στρουθίαstrouthiasparrows πωλεῖταιpoleitaisold ἀσσαρίωνassariōnpennies ? δύοdyofor two καὶkaiYet ἓνhenone ἐξexof αὐτῶνautōnthem οὐκouknot ἔστινestinis ἐπιλελησμένονepilelēsmenonforgotten ἐνώπιονenōpionby τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouGod .
7ἀλλὰalla[And even] καὶkaivery αἱhaithe τρίχεςtricheshairs τῆςtēsof κεφαλῆςkephalēshead ὑμῶνhymōnyour πᾶσαιpasaivvv ἠρίθμηνταιērithmēntaiare all numbered . μὴmēvvv φοβεῖσθεphobeisthe[So] do not be afraid ; πολλῶνpollōnthan many στρουθίωνstrouthiōnsparrows . διαφέρετεdiaphereteyou are worth more
8ΛέγωLegōI tell δὲde- ὑμῖνhyminyou , πᾶςpaseveryone ὃςhoswho ἂνan- ὁμολογήσῃhomologēsēconfesses ἐνen. . . ἐμοὶemoiMe ἔμπροσθενemprosthenbefore τῶνtōn- ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnmen , καὶkaivvv ὁhothe ΥἱὸςHuiosSon τοῦtou- ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouof Man ὁμολογήσειhomologēseiwill also confess ἐνen. . . αὐτῷautōhim ἔμπροσθενemprosthenbefore τῶνtōnthe ἀγγέλωνangelōnangels τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God .
9ὁhowhoever δὲdeBut ἀρνησάμενόςarnēsamenosdenies μεmeMe ἐνώπιονenōpionbefore τῶνtōn- ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnmen ἀπαρνηθήσεταιaparnēthēsetaiwill be denied ἐνώπιονenōpionbefore τῶνtōnthe ἀγγέλωνangelōnangels τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God .
10καὶkaiAnd πᾶςpaseveryone ὃςhoswho ἐρεῖereispeaks λόγονlogona word εἰςeisagainst τὸνtonthe ΥἱὸνHuionSon τοῦtou- ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouof Man ἀφεθήσεταιaphethēsetaiwill be forgiven αὐτῷautō. . . , τῷtōwhoever δὲdebut εἰςeisagainst τὸtothe ἍγιονHagionHoly ΠνεῦμαPneumaSpirit βλασφημήσαντιblasphēmēsantiblasphemes οὐκoukvvv ἀφεθήσεταιaphethēsetaiwill not be forgiven .
11ὍτανHotanWhen δὲde- προσφέρωσινprospherosinare brought ὑμᾶςhymasyou ἐπὶepibefore τὰςtas- συναγωγὰςsynagōgassynagogues , καὶkai- τὰςtas- ἀρχὰςarchasrulers , καὶkaiand τὰςtas- ἐξουσίαςexousiasauthorities , μὴmē{do} not μεριμνᾶτεmerimnateworry πῶςpōshow ἡhē- τίtiwhat ἀπολογήσησθεapologēsēstheto defend yourselves ἢēor τίtiwhat εἴπητεeipēteto say .
12τὸtothe γὰρgarFor ἍγιονHagionHoly ΠνεῦμαPneumaSpirit διδάξειdidaxeiwill teach ὑμᾶςhymasyou ἐνenat αὐτῇautēthat τῇtē- ὥρᾳhōratime ἃhawhat δεῖdeiyou should εἰπεῖνeipeinsay . ”
13εἰπὲeipetell δέde- τιςtisSomeone αὐτῷautōto Him , ἐκekin τοῦtouthe ὄχλουochloucrowd ΔιδάσκαλεDidaskale“ Teacher , εἰπὲeipetell τῷtō. . . ἀδελφῷadelphōbrother μουmoumy μερίσασθαιmerisasthaito divide τὴνtēnthe κληρονομίανklēronomianinheritance μετ’met’with ἐμοῦemoume . ”
14ὉHo- δὲdeBut εἶπενeipen[Jesus] replied αὐτῷautō. . . , ἌνθρωπεAnthrōpe“ Man , τίςtiswho μεmeMe κατέστησεkatesteseappointed δικαστὴνdikastinjudge ἢēor μεριστὴνmeristēnexecutor ἐφ’eph’between ὑμᾶςhymasyou ? ”
15εἰπὲeipetell δέde- πρὸςprosto αὐτούςautousthem , ὉρᾶτεHorate“ Watch out ! καὶkai- φυλάσσεσθεphylassestheGuard yourselves ἀπὸapoagainst πάσηςpasēsevery [form of] πλεονεξίαςpleonexiasgreed , ὅτιhotifor οὐκoukvvv ἐνenin τῷtōthe περισσεύεινperisseueinabundance τινὶtinione’s ἡhē- ζωὴzōēlife αὐτοῦautou. . . ἐστινestindoes not consist ἐκekof τῶνtōnvvv ὑπαρχόντωνhyparchontōnpossessions . ” αὐτοῦautou. . .
16εἰπὲeipetell δέde- παραβολὴνparabolēna parable πρὸςpros. . . αὐτοὺςautousthem λέγωνlegōn- : ἈνθρώπουAnthrōpouman τινὸςtinosof a certain πλουσίουplousiourich εὐφόρησενeuphorēsenproduced an abundance . ἡhē“ The χώραchōraground
17καὶkaiSo διελογίζετοdielogizetohe thought ἐνento ἑαυτῷheautōhimself λέγωνlegōn- , ΤίTi‘ What ποιήσωpoiēsōshall I do , ὅτιhotisince οὐκouknowhere ἔχωechōI have ποῦpou. . . συνάξωsynaxōto store τοὺςtous- καρπούςkarpouscrops ? ’ μουmoumy
18καὶkaiThen εἰπὲeipetell ΤοῦτοTouto‘ This [is what] ποιήσωpoiēsōI will do : καθελῶkathelōI will tear down μουmoumy τὰςtas- ἀποθήκαςapothēkasbarns καὶkaiand μείζοναςmeizonasbigger [ones] , οἰκοδομήσωoikodomēsōwill build καὶkaiand συνάξωsynaxōI will store up ἐκεῖekeithere πάνταpantaall τὰta[my] ΓεννήματαGennēmata“ You brood μουmoumy καὶkaiand τὰta[my] ἀγαθάagathagoods . μουmoumyself
19καὶkaiThen ἐρῶerōI will say τῇtēto ψυχῇpsychē. . . , μουmoumyself ψυχῇpsychē. . . , ἔχειςecheishave πολλὰpollaplenty of ἀγαθὰagathagood things κείμεναkeimenalaid up εἰςeisfor ἔτηetēyears . πολλάpollamany ἀναπαύουanapauouTake it easy . φάγεphageEat , πίεpiedrink , εὐφραίνουeuphrainou[and] be merry ! ”’
20εἰπὲeipetell δέde- αὐτῷautōto Him , ὉHo- ΘεόςTheosGod ἌφρωνAphrōn‘ [You] fool ! ταύτῃtautēThis τῇtēvery νυκτὶnyktinight τὴνtēn- ψυχήνpsychēnlife σουsouyour ἀπαιτοῦσινapaitousinwill be required ἀπὸapoof σοῦsouyou . ἃhawhat δὲdeThen ἡτοίμασαςhētoimasasyou have accumulated ? ’ τίνιtiniwho ἔσταιestaiwill own
21ΟὕτωςHoutōsThis is how [it will be for] ὁhoanyone who θησαυρίζωνthēsaurizōnstores up treasure ἑαυτῷ*heautōfor himself καὶkaibut μὴmēvvv εἰςeistoward ΘεὸνTheonGod . ” πλουτῶνploutōnis not rich
22εἰπὲeipetell δέde- πρὸςprosto τοὺςtous- μαθητὰςmathētasdisciples , αὐτοῦautouHis ΔιὰDia“ Therefore τοῦτοtouto. . . λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , μὴmē{do} not μεριμνᾶτεmerimnateworry τῇtēabout ψυχῇpsychēyour life , ὑμῶνhymōnyou τίtiwhy φάγητεphagēteyou will eat μηδὲmēde[or] τῷtōabout σώματιsōmatibody , ὑμῶνhymōnyou τίtiwhy
23ἐνδύσησθεendysēstheyou will wear . ΟὐχὶOuchi{Are} not ἢē. . . ψυχῇpsychē. . . , πλεῖόνpleionmore than ἐστιestiis τῆςtēs- τροφῆςtrophēsfood , καὶkaiand τὸtothe σῶμαsōmabody τοῦtou[more] than ἐνδύματοςendymatosclothes .
24κατανοήσατεkatanoēsateConsider τοὺςtousthe κόρακαςkorakasravens : ὅτιhoti- οὐ*ouvvv σπείρουσινspeirousinThey do not sow οὐδὲ*oude[or] θερίζουσινtherizousinreap , οἷςhoisthey οὐκoukno ἔστιestiis ταμεῖονtameionstorehouse οὐδὲoude[or] ἀποθήκηapothēkēbarn ; καὶkaiyet ὁho- ΘεὸςTheosGod τρέφειtrepheifeeds αὐτούςautousthem . πόσῳposōHow much μᾶλλονmallonmore ὑμεῖςhymeisvvv διαφέρετεdiapheretevaluable you are τῶνtōnthan the πετεινῶνpeteinōnbirds !
25τίςtisWho δὲde- ἐξexof ὑμῶνhymōnyou μεριμνῶνmerimnōnby worrying δύναταιdynataican προσθεῖναιprostheinaiadd ἐπὶepito τὴνtēn- ἡλικίανhēlikianlife ? αὐτοῦautouhis πῆχυνpēchyna single hour ἕναhenaone
26εἰeiif οὖνounSo οὔτεouteneither ἐλάχιστονelachistonsuch a small thing , δύνασθεdynastheyou cannot [do] τίtiwhy περὶperiabout τῶνtōnthe λοιπῶνloipōnrest ? μεριμνᾶτεmerimnatedo you worry
27ΚατανοήσατεKatanoēsateConsider τὰtathe κρίναkrinalilies πῶςpōshow ‹αὐξάνειauxaneigrow : οὐouvvv κοπιᾷkopiaThey do not labor οὐδὲoude[or] νήθει›nētheispin . λέγωlegōI tell δὲdeYet ὑμῖνhyminyou , οὐδὲoudenot even ΣολομὼνSolomōnSolomon ἐνenin πάσῃpasēall τῇtē- δόξῃdoxēglory αὐτοῦautouhis περιεβάλετοperiebaletowas adorned ὡςhōslike ἓνhenone τούτωνtoutōnof these .
28εἰeiIf δὲde- τὸνtonthe χόρτονchortongrass τοῦtouof the ἀγροῦagrouthe country , σήμερονsēmerontoday ὄνταontawhich is [here] καὶkaiand αὔριονauriontomorrow εἰςeisinto κλίβανονklibanonthe furnace , βαλλόμενονballomenonis thrown ὁho- ΘεὸςTheosGod οὕτωςhoutōsthat is how ἀμφιέννυσι,amphiennusiclothes πόσῳposōhow much μᾶλλονmallon[more will He clothe] ὑμᾶςhymasyou , ὀλιγόπιστοιoligopistoiO [you] of little faith !
29ΚαὶKaiAnd ὑμεῖςhymeisvvv μὴmē{do} not ζητεῖτεzēteitebe concerned about τίtiwhat φάγητεphagēteyou will eat καὶkai[or] τίti- πίητεpiētedrink . καὶkai- μὴmē{Do} not μετεωρίζεσθεmeteōrizestheworry about [it] .
30ταῦταtautathese things , γὰρgarFor πάνταpantaall τὰtathe ἔθνηethnēGentiles τοῦtouof the κόσμουkosmouworld ἐπιζητεῖ·epizeteistrive after ὑμῶνhymōnyour δὲdeand ὁho- ΠατὴρPatērFather οἶδενoidenknows ὅτιhotithat χρῄζετεchrēzeteyou need τούτωνtoutōnthem .
31πλὴνplēnBut ζητεῖτεzēteiteseek τὴνtēn- βασιλείανbasileiankingdom , τοῦtouof the ΘεοῦTheouof God . καὶkaiAnd ταῦταtautathat πάνταpantaall προστεθήσεταιprostethēsetaiwill be added ὑμῖνhyminunto you .
32ΜὴMē{Do} not φοβοῦphoboube afraid , τὸto- μικρὸνmikronlittle ποίμνιονpoimnionflock , ὅτιhotifor εὐδόκησενeudokēsenis pleased ὁho- ΠατὴρPatērFather ὑμῶνhymōnyour δοῦναιdounaito give ὑμῖνhyminyou τὴνtēnthe βασιλείανbasileiankingdom .
33ΠωλήσατεPōlēsateSell τὰta- ὑπάρχονταhyparchontapossessions ὑμῶνhymōnyour καὶkaiand δότεdotegive ἐλεημοσύνηνeleēmosynēnto the poor . ποιήσατεpoiēsateProvide ἑαυτοῖςheautoisyourselves βαλάντιαbalantia[with] purses μὴmē[that will] not παλαιούμεναpalaioumenawear out , θησαυρὸνthēsaurontreasure ἀνέκλειπτονanekleiptonan inexhaustible ἐνenin τοῖςtois- οὐρανοῖςouranoisheaven , ὅπουhopouwhere κλέπτηςkleptēsthief οὐκoukno ἐγγίζειengizeiapproaches οὐδὲoude[and] no σὴςsēsmoth διαφθείρειdiaphtheireidestroys .
34ὅπουhopouwhere γάρgarFor ἐστινestinis , ὁho- θησαυρὸςthēsaurostreasure ὑμῶνhymōnyour ἐκεῖekeithere καὶkaialso . ἡhē- καρδίαkardiaheart ὑμῶνhymōnyour ἔσταιestaiwill be
35ἜστωσανEstōsanBe ὑμῶνhymōndressed for service αἱhai. . . ὀσφύεςosphyes. . . περιεζωσμέναιperiezōsmenai. . . καὶkaiand {keep} οἱhoi[your] λύχνοιlychnoilamps καιόμενοιkaiomenoiburning .
36καὶkaiThen ὑμεῖςhymeisyou ὅμοιοιhomoioi[ will be ] like ἀνθρώποιςanthrōpois[servants] προσδεχομένοιςprosdechomenoiswaiting for τὸνton- κύριονkyrionmaster ἑαυτῶνheautōntheir πότεpote- ἀναλύσῃanalysēto return ἐκekfrom τῶνtōnthe γάμωνgamōnwedding banquet , ἵναhinaso that ἐλθόντοςelthontoswhen he comes καὶkaiand κρούσαντοςkrousantosknocks , εὐθέωςeutheōsat once . ἀνοίξωσινanoixōsinthey can open [the door] αὐτῷautōfor him
37μακάριοιmakarioiBlessed [are] οἱhoi- δοῦλοιdouloiservants ἐκεῖνοιekeinoithose οὓςhouswhom ἐλθὼνelthōnwhen he returns . ὁhothe κύριοςkyriosmaster εὑρήσειheurēseifinds γρηγοροῦνταςgrēgorountason watch ἀμὴνamēnTruly λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , ὅτιhoti- περιζώσεταιperizōsetaihe will dress himself to serve καὶkaiand ἀνακλινεῖanaklineiwill have them recline at the table , αὐτοὺςautous. . . καὶkaiand παρελθὼνparelthōnhe [himself] will come διακονήσειdiakonēsei[and] wait on αὐτοῖςautoisthem . καὶkaiand ἘὰνEansuppose
38ἔλθῃelthēhe comes ἐνenin τῇtēthe δευτέρᾳdeuterasecond φυλακῇphylakēwatch of the night καὶkaiand ἐνen- τῇtē- τρίτῃtritēthird φυλακῇphylakēwatch of the night ἔλθῃelthēhe comes καὶkaiand εὕρῃheurēfinds [them] οὕτω,outo[this] μακάριοίmakarioiblessed . εἰσινeisinwill be οἱhoi- δοῦλοιdouloiservants ἐκεῖνοιekeinoithose
39ΤοῦτοToutothis : δὲdeBut γινώσκετεginōsketeunderstand ὅτιhoti- εἰeiIf ᾔδειēdeihad known ὁhothe οἰκοδεσπότηςoikodespotēshomeowner ποίᾳpoiaat what ὥρᾳhōrahour ὁhothe κλέπτηςkleptēsthief ἔρχεταιerchetaiwas coming , ἐγρηγόρησενegrigorisenhastened ἂνanvvv καὶkaialso οὐκoukvvv ἂνanvvv ἀφῆκεaphekeHe did not allow διορυγῆναιdiorugenaibe broken into . τὸνton- οἶκονoikonhouse αὐτοῦautouhis καὶkaialso
40ὑμεῖςhymeisYou οὖνounSo γίνεσθεginesthemust be ἕτοιμοιhetoimoiready , ὅτιhotibecause ᾗhēat an ὥρᾳhōrahour οὐouvvv δοκεῖτεdokeiteyou do not expect . ” ὁho- ΥἱὸςHuiosSon τοῦtou- ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouof Man ἔρχεταιerchetaiwill come
41εἴπῃeipēsays δὲdeBut αὐτῷautōfor him ὁhothe ΠέτροςPetrosPeter , ΚύριεKyrie“ Lord , ” πρὸςprosto ἡμᾶςhēmasus , τὴνtēn- παραβολὴνparabolēnparable ταύτηνtautēnthis λέγειςlegeis“ are You addressing ἢēor καὶkaias well ? ” πρὸςprosto πάνταςpantaseveryone else
42εἴπῃeipēsays δὲdeBut ὁho- κύριόςkyriosmaster ΤίςTis“ Who ἄραarathen ἐστὶνestinis ὁhothe πιστὸςpistosfaithful οἰκονόμοςoikonomosmanager , ΚαὶKaiAnd φρόνιμοςphronimoswise ὃνhonwhom καταστήσειkatastēseiputs ὁhothe κύριοςkyriosmaster ἐπὶepiof τῆςtēs[servants] θεραπείαςtherapeiasin charge αὐτοῦautouhis τοῦtou- διδόναιdidonaito give [them] ἐνenat καιρῷkairōthe proper time ? τὸto[their] σιτομέτριονsitometrionportion
43μακάριοςmakariosBlessed [is] ὁho- δοῦλοςdoulosservant ἐκεῖνοςekeinosthat ὃνhonwhose ἐλθὼνelthōnwhen he returns . ὁho- κύριοςkyriosmaster αὐτοῦautou- εὑρήσειheurēseifinds οὕτωouto[this] ποιοῦνταpoiountahim doing
44ἀληθῶςalēthōsTruly λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , ὅτιhoti- ἐπὶepiof πᾶσιpasiall τοῖςtois- ὑπάρχουσινhyparchousinpossessions . αὐτοῦautouhis καταστήσειkatastēseihe will put him in charge αὐτόνauton. . .
45ἘὰνEansuppose δὲdeBut εἴπῃeipēsays ὁho- δοῦλοςdoulosservant ἐκεῖνοςekeinosthat ἐνenin τῇtē- καρδίᾳkardiaheart , αὐτοῦautouhis ΧρονίζειChronizeiwill be a long time ὁho- κύριόςkyriosmaster μουmou‘ My ἔρχεσθαιerchesthaiin coming , ’ καὶkaiand ἄρξηταιarxētaihe begins τύπτεινtypteinto beat τοὺςtousthe παῖδαςpaidasmenservants καὶkaiand τὰςtas- παιδίσκαςpaidiskasmaidservants , ἐσθίεινesthieinto eat τεteand καὶkaiand πίνεινpineindrink καὶkaiand μεθύσκεσθαιmethyskesthaiget drunk .
46ἥξειhēxeiwill come ὁhoThe κύριοςkyriosmaster τοῦtou- δούλουdoulouservant ἐκείνουekeinouof that ἐνenon ἡμέρᾳhēmeraa day ᾗhēvvv οὐouvvv προσδοκᾷprosdokahe does not expect καὶkaiand ἐνenat ὥρᾳhōraan hour ᾗhēvvv οὐouvvv γινώσκειginōskeihe does not anticipate . καὶkaiThen διχοτομήσειdichotomēseihe will cut him to pieces αὐτὸνauton. . . καὶkaiand τὸtoa μέροςmerosplace αὐτοῦautouhim μετὰmetawith τῶνtōnthe ἀπίστωνapistōnunbelievers . θήσειthēseiassign
47ἘκεῖνοςEkeinosThat δὲde- ὁho- δοῦλοςdoulosservant ὁhowho γνοὺςgnousknows τὸto- θέλημαthelēmawill τοῦtou- κυρίουkyrioumaster’s αὐτοῦautouhis καὶkai[but] μὴmēvvv ἑτοιμάσαςhetoimasasdoes not get ready μηδὲmēde[or] ποιήσαςpoiēsasfollow πρὸςpros. . . τὸto- θέλημαthelēmainstructions αὐτοῦautouhis δαρήσεταιdarēsetaiwill be beaten with πολλάςpollasmany [blows] .
