1ΠερὶPeriabout μὲνmen. . . γὰρgarFor τῆςtēs- διακονίαςdiakoniasservice τῆςtēs- εἰςeisto τοὺςtousthe ἁγίουςhagioussaints , περισσόνperissonno need μοίmoifor me ἐστίestiI have τὸto- γράφεινgrapheinto write ὑμῖνhyminto you .
2οἶδαoidaI know γὰρgarFor τὴνtēn- προθυμίανprothymianeagerness [to help] , ὑμῶνhymōnyour ἣνhēn[and] ὑπὲρhyper- ὑμῶνhymōnyou καυχῶμαιkauchōmaiI have been boasting ΜακεδόσινMakedosinto [the] Macedonians ὅτιhotithat ἈχαΐαAchaiain Achaia παρεσκεύασταιpareskeuastaiwere prepared [ to give ] . ἀπὸaposince πέρυσιperysilast year καὶkaiAnd hoWhoever ἐξex- ὑμῶνhymōnyour ζῆλοςzēloszeal ἠρέθισεerethisehas stirred τοὺςtous- πλείοναςpleionasmost of them [ to do likewise ] .
3ἜπεμψαEpempsaI am sending δὲdeBut τοὺςtousthe ἀδελφούςadelphousbrothers ἵναhinain order that μὴvvv τῷ- καύχημαkauchēmaboasting ἡμῶνhēmōnour τὸto- ὑπὲρhyperabout ὑμῶνhymōnyou κενωθῇkenōthēshould not prove empty , ἐνenin τῷ- μέρειmereimatter τούτῳtoutōthis ἵναhina[but] that καθὼςkathōsjust as ἔλεγονelegonI said . παρεσκευασμένοιpareskeuasmenoiprepared , ἦτεēteyou will be
4μήπωςmeposno-how ἐὰνeanif [any] ἔλθωσιelthosiwill not also end up σὺνsynwith ἐμοὶemoime ΜακεδόνεςMakedonesMacedonians καὶkaiand εὕρωσινheurōsinfind ὑμᾶςhymasyou ἀπαρασκευάστουςaparaskeuastousunprepared , καταισχυνθῶμενkataischynthōmenwould be ashamed of ἡμεῖςhēmeiswe — ἵναhinato μὴnothing λέγωμενlegōmensay ὑμεῖςhymeisof you — ἐνen[having been] τῇ- ὑποστάσειhypostaseiconfident . ταύτῃtautēso τῆςtēs- καυχήσεωςkauchēseōsthe reason for our boasting
5ἀναγκαῖονanankaionnecessary οὖνounSo ἡγησάμηνhēgēsamēnI thought [it] παρακαλέσαιparakalesaito urge τοὺςtousthe ἀδελφοὺςadelphousbrothers ἵναhinato προέλθωσινproelthōsinvisit you beforehand εἰςeis. . . ὑμᾶςhymas. . . καὶkaiand προκαταρτίσωσιprokatartisosimake arrangements τὴνtēnfor the προκατηγγελμένηνprokateggelmenenmake arrangements εὐλογίανeulogianbountiful gift ὑμῶνhymōnyour ταύτηνtautēn[gift] ἑτοίμηνhetoimēnprepared εἶναιeinaiwill be οὕτωςhoutōsThis way , ὡςhōsvvv εὐλογίανeulogiangenerously καὶkaiand μὴnot ὡςhōsvvv πλεονεξίανpleonexianbegrudgingly .
6ΤοῦτοToutothis : δέde[Remember] hoWhoever σπείρωνspeirōnsows φειδομένωςpheidomenōssparingly φειδομένωςpheidomenōssparingly καὶkai{will} also θερίσειtheriseireap καὶkai{will} also hoWhoever σπείρωνspeirōnsows ἐπ’ep’vvv εὐλογίαιςeulogiaisgenerously ἐπ’ep’vvv εὐλογίαιςeulogiaisgenerously καὶkai{will} also θερίσειtheriseireap
7ἕκαστοςhekastosEach one καθὼςkathōs[ should give ] what προαιρεῖταιproaireitaihe has decided τῇin [his] καρδίᾳkardiaheart [to give ] , μὴnot ἐκekout of λύπηςlypēsregret ēor ἐξex- ἀνάγκηςanankēscompulsion . ἱλαρὸνhilarona cheerful γὰρgarFor δότηνdotēngiver . ἀγαπᾷagapaloves ho- ΘεόςTheosGod
8δυνατόςdynatosMighty One δὲdeAnd ho- ΘεὸςTheosGod πᾶσανpasan{to make} all χάρινcharingrace περισσεῦσαιperisseusaiabound εἰςeisto ὑμᾶςhymasyou , ἵναhinaso that ἐνenin παντὶpantiall things , πάντοτεpantoteat all times , πᾶσανpasanall that αὐτάρκειανautarkeianyou need , ἔχοντεςechonteshaving περισσεύητεperisseuēteyou will abound εἰςeisin πᾶνpanevery ἔργονergonwork . ἀγαθόνagathongood
9καθὼςkathōsAs γέγραπταιgegraptaiit is written : ἘσκόρπισενEskorpisen“ He has scattered abroad ἔδωκεedokegave [it] τοῖςtoisto the πένησινpenēsinpoor ; - δικαιοσύνηdikaiosynērighteousness αὐτοῦautouHis μένειmeneiendures εἰςeisforever τὸνton. . . αἰῶναaiōna. . . .”
10HoHe who δὲdeNow ἐπιχορηγῶνepichorēgōnsupplies σπέρμαspermaoffspring τῷto the σπείροντιspeirontisower καὶkaiand ἄρτονartonbread εἰςeisfor βρῶσινbrōsinfood χορηγήσαιkhoregesaiwill supply καὶkaiand πληθύναιplethunaimultiply τὸνton- σπόρονsporonstore of seed ὑμῶνhymōnyour καὶkaiand αὐξήσαιauxesaiwill increase τὰtathe γενήματαgenēmataharvest τῆςtēsof δικαιοσύνηςdikaiosynēsrighteousness . ὑμῶνhymōnyour
11ἐνenin παντὶpantievery way πλουτιζόμενοιploutizomenoiYou will be enriched εἰςeisto πᾶσανpasanon every [occasion] , ἁπλότηταhaplotētabe generous ἥτιςhētis[so that] κατεργάζεταιkatergazetai[your giving] will produce δι’di’through ἡμῶνhēmōnus εὐχαριστίανeucharistianthanksgiving τῷ- ΘεῷTheōto God .
12ὅτιhotiFor - διακονίαdiakoniaministry τῆςtēs- λειτουργίαςleitourgiasof service ταύτηςtautēsthis οὐounot μόνονmonononly ἐστίestiI have προσαναπληροῦσαprosanaplērousasupplying τὰtathe ὑστερήματαhysterēmataneeds τῶνtōnof the ἁγίωνhagiōnsaints , ἀλλὰallabut καὶkaivvv περισσεύουσαperisseuousais also overflowing διὰdiain πολλῶνpollōnmany εὐχαριστιῶνeucharistiōnexpressions of thanksgiving τῷ- ΘεῷTheōto God .
13διὰdiaBecause of τῆςtēsthe δοκιμῆςdokimēsproof τῆςtēsthe διακονίαςdiakoniasministry {provides} , ταύτηςtautēsthis δοξάζοντεςdoxazontes[the saints] will glorify τὸνton- ΘεὸνTheonGod ἐπὶepifor τῇ- ὑποταγῇhypotagēobedient τῆςtēs- ὁμολογίαςhomologiasconfession ὑμῶνhymōnyour εἰςeisof τὸtothe εὐαγγέλιονeuangeliongospel τοῦtou- ΧριστοῦChristouof Christ , καὶkaiand ἁπλότητιhaplotēti[for the] generosity τῆςtēsof [your] κοινωνίαςkoinōniascontribution εἰςeisto αὐτοὺςautousthem καὶkaiand εἰςeisto πάνταςpantasall [the others] .
14καὶkaiAnd αὐτῶνautōntheir δεήσειdeēseiprayers ὑπὲρhyperfor ὑμῶνhymōnyou ἐπιποθούντωνepipothountōnwill express their affection ὑμᾶςhymasfor you , διὰdiabecause of τὴνtēnthe ὑπερβάλλουσανhyperballousansurpassing χάρινcharingrace τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouGod ἐφ’eph’[has given] ὑμῖνhyminyou .
15ΧάριςCharisThanks [be] τῷ- ΘεῷTheōto God ἐπὶepifor τῇ- ἀνεκδιηγήτῳanekdiēgētōindescribable αὐτοῦautouHis δωρεᾷdōreagift !
