2ἀνεῖλεaneileput to death δὲde- ἸάκωβονIakōbon{He had} James , τὸνtonthe ἀδελφὸνadelphonbrother ἸωάννουIōannouof John , μαχαίρᾳ.makhairaa sword
3καὶkai. . . ἰδὼνidōnseeing ὅτιhotithat ἀρεστόνarestonpleased ἐστίestiI have τοῖςtoisthe ἸουδαίοιςIoudaioisJews , προσέθετοprosetheto[Herod] proceeded συλλαβεῖνsyllabeinto seize καὶkai. . . ΠέτρονPetronPeter ἦσανēsanduring δὲdevvv [αἱ]haithe ἡμέραιhēmerai- τῶνtōn- ἀζύμωνazymōnFeast of Unleavened [Bread] .
4ὃνhon[him] καὶkaiand πιάσαςpiasasHe arrested ἔθετοethetoput [him] εἰςeisin φυλακήνphylakēnprison , παραδοὺςparadoushanding [him] over τέσσαρσιtessarsiby [its] four τετραδίοιςtetradioissquads of four στρατιωτῶνstratiōtōnsoldiers [each] . φυλάσσεινphylasseinto be guarded αὐτόνauton. . . βουλόμενοςboulomenos[Herod] intended μετὰmetaafter τὸtothe πάσχαpaschaPassover . ἀναγαγεῖνanagageinto bring him out αὐτὸνauton. . . τῷtōto the λαῷlaōpeople
5ὉHo- μὲνmen- οὖνounSo ΠέτροςPetrosPeter ἐτηρεῖτοetēreitowas kept ἐνenin τῇtē- φυλακῇphylakēprison , προσευχὴproseuchēpraying δὲdebut ἐνenin ἐκτενῶςektenōsfervently γινομένηginomenē. . . ὑπὸhypo- τῆςtēsthe ἐκκλησίαςekklēsiaschurch πρὸςprosto τὸνton- ΘεὸνTheonGod ὑπὲρhyperabove αὐτοῦautouhim .
6ὍτεHote[before] δὲde- ἤμελλενēmellenwas αὐτὸνauton. . . , προάγεινproageingo on ahead of [Him] ὁho- ἩρῴδηςHērōdēsHerod τῇtēOn νυκτὶnyktinight ἐκείνῃekeinē[the] ἦνēnwas ὉHo- ΠέτροςPetrosPeter κοιμώμενοςkoimōmenossleeping μεταξὺmetaxybetween δύοdyotwo στρατιωτῶνstratiōtōnsoldiers , δεδεμένοςdedemenosbound ἁλύσεσιhalysesichains . δυσὶdysitwo φύλακέςphylakessentries τεtewith πρὸproat τῆςtēsthe θύραςthyrasentrance ἐτήρουνetērounstanding guard τὴνtēnto the φυλακήνphylakēnprison .
7καὶkaiSuddenly ἰδοὺidou. . . ἄγγελοςangelosan angel ΚυρίουKyriouof [the] Lord ἐπέστηepestēappeared καὶkaiand φῶςphōsa light ἔλαμψενelampsenshone ἐνenin τῷtōthe οἰκήματιoikēmaticell . πατάξαςpataxasHe tapped δὲde- τὴνtēnon the πλευρὰνpleuranside τοῦtou- ΠέτρουPetrouPeter ἤγειρενēgeiren[and] woke him up αὐτὸνauton. . . , λέγωνlegōnsaying , ἈνάσταAnasta“ Get up ἐνenvvv τάχειtacheiquickly . ” καὶkaiAnd ἐξέπεσονexepesonfell αὐτοῦautou- αἱhaithe ἁλύσειςhalyseischains ἐκekoff τῶνtōn[his] χειρῶνcheirōnwrists .
8εἰπὲeipesay τεtewith ὁho- ἄγγελοςangelosan angel πρὸςprosto αὐτὸνauton. . . , Περίζωσαιperizosai“ Get dressed καὶkaiSuddenly ὑπόδησαιhypodēsaiput on τὰta- σανδάλιάsandaliasandals , ” σουsouyour ἐποίησεepoiesehas done δὲde- οὕτωhoutōso καὶkaiand λέγειlegei[the angel] told αὐτῷautōhim , ΠεριβαλοῦPeribalou“ Wrap τὸto- ἱμάτιόνhimationcloak {around you} σουsouyour καὶkaiand ἀκολούθειakoloutheifollow μοιmoime . ”
9ΚαὶKai[So] ἐξελθὼνexelthōnout , ἠκολούθειēkolouthei[Peter] followed him αὐτῷautōhim , καὶkaiand οὐκoukvvv ᾔδειēdeihe was unaware ὅτιhotithat ἀληθέςalēthesreal . ἐστίestiI have τὸtowhat γινόμενονginomenonwas doing διὰdia- τοῦtouthe ἀγγέλουangelouangel ἐδόκειedokeiHe thought δὲdevvv ὅραμαhoramaa vision . βλέπεινblepeinhe was only seeing
10διελθόντεςdielthontesThey passed δὲde- πρώτηνprōtēn[the] first φυλακὴνphylakēnguards καὶkaiand δευτέρανdeuteransecond ἦλθονēlthonthey came ἐπὶepito τὴνtēnthe πύληνpylēngate τὴνtēn- σιδηρᾶνsidēraniron τὴνtēn- φέρουσανpherousanleading εἰςeisto τὴνtēnthe πόλινpolincity , ἥτιςhētiswhich αὐτομάτηautomatēby itself . ἠνοίχθηenoikhtheopened αὐτοῖςautoisfor them καὶkai[When] ἐξελθόντεςexelthontesthey had gone outside προῆλθονproēlthon[and] walked the length of ῥύμηνrhymēnblock , μίανmianone καὶkai- εὐθέωςeutheōssuddenly ἀπέστηapestēleft ὁhothe ἄγγελοςangelosangel ἀπ’ap’. . . αὐτοῦautouhim .
11ΚαὶKaiThen ὁho- ΠέτροςPetrosPeter γενόμενοςgenomenoscame ἐνento ἑαυτῷheautōhimself εἰπὲeipesay ΝῦνNyn“ Now οἶδαoidaI know ἀληθῶςalēthōsfor sure ὅτιhotithat ἐξαπέστειλεexapesteilehas sent ΚύριοςKyriosLord τὸνton- ἄγγελονangelonangel αὐτοῦautouHis καὶkaiand ἐξείλετόexeiletorescued μεmeme ἐκekfrom χειρὸςcheirosgrasp ἩρῴδουHērōdouHerod’s καὶkaiand πάσηςpasēs[from] everything τῆςtēs- προσδοκίαςprosdokiaswere anticipating . ” τοῦtou- λαοῦlaoupeople τῶνtōnthe ἸουδαίωνIoudaiōnJewish
12ΣυνιδώνSynidōnhe had realized [this] , τεteAnd [when] ἦλθενēlthenhe went ἐπὶepito τὴνtēnthe οἰκίανoikianhouse ΜαρίαςMariasMary τῆςtēsthe μητρὸςmētrosmother ἸωάννουIōannouof John , τοῦtou[also] ἐπικαλουμένουepikaloumenoucalled ΜάρκουMarkouMark , οὗhouwhere ἦσανēsanvvv ἱκανοὶhikanoimany [people] συνηθροισμένοιsynēthroismenoihad gathered together καὶkaiand προσευχόμενοιproseuchomenoiwere praying .
13κρούσαντοςkrousantosknocked δὲde- αὐτοῦautouHe τὴνtēn[at] the θύρανthyranvvv τοῦtouvvv πυλῶνοςpylōnosouter gate , ΠρόσελθεProselthe“ Go over παιδίσκηpaidiskē[and] a servant girl ὑπακοῦσαιhypakousaito answer [it] . ὀνόματιonomatinamed ῬόδηRhodēRhoda
14καὶkai- ἐπιγνοῦσαepignousaWhen she recognized τὴνtēn- φωνὴνphōnēnvoice , τοῦtou- ΠέτρουPetrouPeter’s ἀπὸapovvv τῆςtēsvvv χαρᾶςcharasshe was so overjoyed [that] οὐκoukvvv ἤνοιξεēnoixeopened τὸνtonthe πυλῶναpylōnagate , εἰσδραμοῦσαeisdramousaran inside δὲdebut ἀπήγγειλενapēngeilen[and] announced ἑστάναιhestanaiis standing τὸνton- , ΠέτρονPetron“ Peter πρὸproat τοῦtouthe πυλῶνοςpylōnosgate ! ”
15ΟἱHoi- δὲde- πρὸςpros. . . αὐτὴνautēnher . εἰπὼνeipōnHe said ΜαίνῃMainē“ You are out of your mind , ” ἡhē- δὲdeBut [when] διϊσχυρίζετοdiischyrizetoshe kept insisting οὕτωςhoutōsso , ἔχεινechein[it] was οἱhoi- δὲde- ἔλεγονelegonthey said , ὉHo- ἄγγελόςangelosangel . ” αὐτοῦautouhis ἐστινestin“ It must be
16ὉHo- δὲdeBut ΠέτροςPetrosPeter ἐπέμενεepemenekept on κρούωνkrouōnknocking , ἀνοίξαντεςanoixantes[when] they opened [the door] δὲdeand εἶδον*eidonthey saw αὐτὸνautonhim , καὶkai- ἐξέστησανexestēsanthey were astounded .
17κατασείσαςkataseisas[Peter] motioned δὲde- αὐτοῖςautoisfor τῇtēwith [his] χειρὶcheirihand σιγᾶνsigansilence , διηγήσατοdiēgēsato[and] he described αὐτοῖςautois- πῶςpōshow ὁhothe ΚύριοςKyriosLord ἐξήγαγενexēgagenhad brought αὐτὸνautonhim ἐκekout of τῆςtēsthe φυλακῆςphylakēsprison . εἰπὲeipesay δὲdeAt ἈπαγγείλατεApangeilate“ Send word ἸακώβῳIakōbōto James καὶkaiand τοῖςtoisto the ἀδελφοῖςadelphoisbrothers , ” ταῦταtauta. . . καὶkaiand ἐξελθὼνexelthōnhe left for ἐπορεύθηeporeuthē. . . εἰςeis. . . ἕτερονheteronanother τόπονtoponplace .
18ΓενομένηςGenomenēs. . . δὲdeAt ἡμέραςhēmerasdaybreak ἦνēnthere was τάραχοςtarachoscommotion οὐκoukno ὀλίγοςoligossmall ἐνenamong τοῖςtoisthe στρατιώταιςstratiōtaissoldiers τίtias to what ἄραara. . . ὁho- ΠέτροςPetrosPeter . ἐγένετοegenetohad become [of]
19ἩρῴδηςHērōdēsHerod δὲde[After] ἐπιζητήσαςepizētēsashad searched αὐτὸνautonfor him καὶkaivvv μὴmēvvv εὑρὼνheurōn[unsuccessfully] , ἀνακρίναςanakrinashe examined τοὺςtousthe φύλακαςphylakasguards ἐκέλευσενekeleusen[and] ordered that ἀπαχθῆναιapachthēnaithey be executed . καὶkaiThen κατελθὼνkatelthōnhe went down ἀπὸapofrom τῆςtēs- ἸουδαίαςIoudaiasJudea εἰςeisto τὴνtēn- ΚαισάρειανKaisareianCaesarea διέτριβενdietriben[and] spent some time [there] .
20ἮνĒn[Herod] was δὲdeNow ἩρῴδηςHērōdēsHerod θυμομαχῶνthymomachōnin a furious dispute ΤυρίοιςTyriois[with the] people of Tyre καὶkaiand ΣιδωνίοιςSidōnioisSidon , ὁμοθυμαδὸνhomothymadonthey convened τεte- παρῆσανparēsan. . . πρὸςprosbefore αὐτόνautonhim . καὶkai- πείσαντεςpeisantesHaving secured the support ΒλάστονBlastonof Blastus , τὸνton- ἐπὶepivvv τοῦtouvvv κοιτῶνοςkoitōnoschamberlain , τοῦtouvvv βασιλέωςbasileōsking’s ᾐτοῦντοētountothey asked for εἰρήνηνeirēnēnpeace , διὰdiabecause τὸto- τρέφεσθαιtrephesthaifor food . αὐτῶνautōntheir τὴνtēn- χώρανchōranregion ἀπὸapodepended τῆςtēson the βασιλικῆςbasilikēsking’s [country]
21τακτῇtaktēOn the appointed δὲde- ἡμέρᾳhēmeraday , ὁho- ἩρῴδηςHērōdēsHerod ἐνδυσάμενοςendysamenosdonned ἐσθῆταesthēta[robes] , βασιλικὴνbasilikēn[his] royal ‹καὶ›kai- καθίσαςkathisassat ἐπὶepion τοῦtou[his] βήματοςbēmatosthrone , ἐδημηγόρειedēmēgorei[and] addressed πρὸςpros- αὐτούςautous[the people] .
22ὁho- δὲdeAnd δῆμοςdēmos[they] ἐπεφώνειepephōneibegan to shout , ΘεοῦTheouof a god , φωνὴphōnē“ [This is the] voice καὶkai- οὐκouknot ἀνθρώπουanthrōpoua man ! ”
23ΠαραχρῆμαParachrēmaImmediately δὲde- , ἐπάταξενepataxenstruck αὐτὸνautonhim {down} , ἄγγελοςangelosan angel ΚυρίουKyriouof [the] Lord ἀνθ’anth’because ὧνhōn. . . οὐκoukvvv ἔδωκεedokegave [it] τὴνtēn- δόξανdoxanglory τῷtō- ΘεῷTheōto God , καὶkaiand γενόμενοςgenomenoshe was σκωληκόβρωτοςskōlēkobrōtoseaten by worms ἐξέψυξενexepsyxen[and] died .
24ὉHothe δὲdeBut λόγοςlogosword τοῦtou- θεοῦ*theouof God ηὔξανεeuxanegrew καὶkaiand ἐπληθύνετοeplēthynetomultiply .
25ΒαρνάβαςBarnabasBarnabas δὲde[When] καὶkaiand ΣαῦλοςSaulosSaul ὑπέστρεψανhypestrepsanthey returned , ἐξexwho belonged to ἸερουσαλὴμIerousalēmJerusalem , πληρώσαντεςplērōsanteshad fulfilled τὴνtēn[their] διακονίανdiakonianmission συμπαραλαβόντεςsymparalabontesbringing with [them] καὶkaiand ἸωάννηνIōannēnJohn , τὸνton[also] ἐπικληθένταepiklēthentacalled ΜάρκονMarkonMark .
