2ἔλεγονelegonthey said , δέdehowever , Μὴ“ [But] not ἐνenduring τῇthe ἑορτῇheortēfeast , ” μήποτέmepotethat at not time, lest ever θόρυβοςthorybosa riot ἔσταιestaithere may be τοῦtouamong the λαοῦlaoupeople . ”
3ΚαὶKaiWhile ὄντοςontoswas αὐτοῦautou[Jesus] ἐνenin ΒηθανίᾳBēthaniaBethany ἐνenin τῇthe οἰκίᾳoikiahome ΣίμωνοςSimōnosof Simon τοῦtouthe λεπροῦleprouLeper , κατακειμένουkatakeimenoureclining at the table αὐτοῦautouvvv ἔλθῃelthēshould come γυνὴgynēa woman ἔχουσαechousa[with] ἀλάβαστρονalabastronan alabaster jar μύρουmyrouperfume , νάρδουnardounard . πιστικῆςpistikēsmade of pure πολυτελοῦςpolytelousof expensive ΚαὶKaiWhile συντρίψασαsyntripsasaShe broke open τὸtovvv ἀλάβαστρονalabastronjar κατέχεενkatecheen[and] poured [it] on αὐτοῦautou[Jesus’] κατὰkataafter τῆςtēsof the κεφαλῆςkephalēshead .
4ἮσανĒsanthose present , δέdehowever , τινεςtinesSome [of] ἀγανακτοῦντεςaganaktountesexpressed their indignation πρὸςprosto ἑαυτούςheautousone another : λέγοντεςlegontes- : εἰςeisto τίtiWhat - ἀπώλειαapōleiawaste αὕτηhautēthis τοῦtouof μύρουmyrouperfume γέγονενgegonen- ?
5ἠδύνατοēdynatocould γὰρgar- τοῦτοtoutovvv τὸtovvv μύρονmyron[It] πραθῆναιprathēnaihave been sold ἐπάνωepanōfor over τριακοσίωνtriakosiōnthree hundred δηναρίωνdēnariōndenarii καὶkaiand δοθῆναιdothēnai[the money] given τοῖςtoisto the πτωχοῖςptōchoispoor . ” καὶkaiAnd ἐνεβριμῶντοenebrimōntothey scolded αὐτῇautēher .
6Ho- δὲdeBut ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἶπενeipensaid , ἌφετεAphete“ Leave her alone αὐτήνautēn. . . ; τίtiwhy αὐτῇautēher ? κόπουςkopous. . . παρέχετεparecheteare you bothering καλὸνkalona beautiful ἔργονergondeed εἰργάσατοeirgasatoShe has done ἐνento ἐμοίemoiMe .
7πάντοτεpantotevvv γὰρgar- τοὺςtousThe πτωχοὺςptōchouspoor ἔχετεecheteyou will always have μεθ’meth’with ἑαυτῶνheautōnyou , καὶkaiand ὅτανhotanwhenever θέλητεthelēteyou want . δύνασθεdynastheyou can αὐτοὺςautousthem εὖeuhelp ποιῆσαιpoiēsaivvv ἐμὲemeMe . δὲdeBut οὐou{you will} not πάντοτεpantotealways ἔχετεechetehave
8howhat ἔσχενeschenshe could αὕτηhautē[she] ἐποίησε·epoiesehas done προέλαβεproelabein advance μυρίσαιmyrisaito anoint μουmouMy τὸto- σῶμάsōmabody εἰςeisof τὸνton[My] ἐνταφιασμόνentaphiasmonburial .
9ἀμὴνamēntruly λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , ὅπουhopouwherever ἐὰνean. . . κηρυχθῇkērychthēis preached τὸtothe εὐαγγέλιονeuangeliongospel τοῦτοtoutovvv ΕἰςEis“ Why ὅλονholonall τὸνtonthe κόσμονkosmonworld , καὶkaivvv howhat ἐποίησενepoiēsenhas done αὕτηhautē[she] λαληθήσεταιlalēthēsetaiwill also be told εἰςeisin μνημόσυνονmnēmosynonmemory αὐτῆςautēsof her . ”
10ΚαὶKaiThen ἸούδαςIoudasJudas ho- ἸσκαριώτηςIskariōtēsIscariot , εἷςheisone τῶνtōnof the δώδεκαdōdekaTwelve , ἀπέλθῃapelthēto depart πρὸςprosto τοὺςtousthe ἀρχιερεῖςarchiereischief priests ἵναhinato παραδῷparadōhe might betray αὐτὸνauton[Jesus] αὐτοῖςautoisto them .
11οἱhoi- δὲde- ἀκούσαντεςakousantesto hear [this] , ἐχάρησανecharēsanThey were delighted καὶkaiand ἐπηγγείλαντοepēngeilantothey promised αὐτῷautōhim ἀργύριάargyriamoney δοῦναιdounaito give καὶkaiand ἐζήτειezētei[Judas] began to look for πῶςpōsvvv εὐκαίρωςeukairōsan opportunity αὐτὸνauton[Jesus] . παραδῷparadōhe might betray

14καὶkaiand ὅπουhopouwhichever {house} ἐὰνean- εἰσέλθῃeiselthēhe enters , εἴπατεeipatesay τῷto the οἰκοδεσπότῃoikodespotēowner , ὅτιhoti- HO‘ The ΔιδάσκαλοςDidaskalosTeacher λέγειlegeiasks : ΠοῦPouWhere ἐστιestiis τὸto- κατάλυμάkatalymaguest room , μουmouMy ὅπουhopouwhere τὸtothe πάσχαpaschaPassover μετὰmetawith τῶνtōn- μαθητῶνmathētōndisciples ? ’ μουmouMy φάγωphagōI may eat

16ΚαὶKaiSo ἐξῆλθονexēlthonleft οἱhoi- μαθηταὶmathētaithe disciples αὐτοῦautouHis καὶkaiand ἦλθονēlthonwent εἰςeisinto τὴνtēnthe πόλινpolincity , καὶkai[where] εὗρονheuronthey found καθὼςkathōs[everything] as εἶπενeipen[Jesus] had described αὐτοῖςautois. . . . καὶkaiAnd ἡτοίμασανhētoimasanthey prepared τὸtothe πάσχαpaschaPassover .
17ΚαὶKaiWhen ὀψίαςopsiasevening γενομένηςgenomenēscame , ἔρχεταιerchetai[Jesus] arrived μετὰmetawith τῶνtōnthe δώδεκαdōdekaTwelve .
18ΚαὶKaiAnd while ἀνακειμένωνanakeimenōnwere reclining αὐτῶνautōnthey ΚαὶKaiAnd while ἐσθιόντωνesthiontōneating , εἶπενeipensaid , ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἈμὴνAmēn“ Truly λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , ὅτιhoti- εἷςheisone ἐξexof ὑμῶνhymōnyou παραδώσειparadōseiwill betray μεmeMe . ” howho ἐσθίωνesthiōnis eating μετ’met’with ἐμοῦemouMe
19οἱhoi- δὲde- ἤρξαντοĒrxantoThey began λυπεῖσθαιlypeisthaito be grieved καὶkaiand λέγεινlegeinto ask αὐτῷautōHim εἷςheisone καθ’kath’Every εἷςheisone ΜήτιMēti“ Surely not ἐγώegōI ? ” καὶkaiand ἄλλοςallosanother [man] ΜήτιMēti“ Surely not ἐγώegōI ? ”
20Ho- δὲde- ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisvvv εἶπενeipenasked αὐτοῖςautois[the crowd] , εἷςheisone ἐκekat τὸνtonthe δώδεκαdōdekaTwelve , ho- ἐμβαπτόμενοςembaptomenosis dipping [ his hand ] μετ’met’with ἐμοῦemouMe . εἰςeisinto τὸtothe τρύβλιονtryblionbowl
21hoThe μὲνmenvvv ΥἱὸςHuiosSon τοῦtou- ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouof Man ὑπάγειhypageiwill go καθὼςkathōsjust as γέγραπταιgegraptaiit is written περὶperiabout αὐτοῦautouHim , οὐαὶouaiwoe δὲdebut τῷ- ἀνθρώπῳanthrōpōman ἐκείνῳekeinōto that δι’di’by οὗhouwhom ho[He] ΥἱὸςHuios. . . τοῦtou. . . ἀνθρώπουanthrōpou. . . παραδίδοταιparadidotaiis betrayed ! καλὸνkalon[It would be] better ἐνenin αὐτὸautoit ΕἰEiif οὐκouknever [will] . ” ἐγεννήθηegennēthēhad not been born . ” ho- ἄνθρωποςanthrōpos[he] ἐκεῖνοςekeinos-

23ΚαὶKaiThen λαβὼνlabōnHe took τὸto- ποτήριονpotērionthe cup , εὐχαριστήσαςeucharistēsasgave thanks , ἔδωκενedōken[and] gave it αὐτοῖςautoisto them , καὶkaiand ἔπιονepionthey all drank ἐξexfrom αὐτοῦautouit . πάντεςpantesvvv
24καὶkaiand εἶπενeipenHe said αὐτοῖςautoisto them , ΤοῦτόTouto“ This ἐστιestiis τὸto- αἷμάhaimablood μουmouMy τὸto- τῆςtēsof the καινῆςkainesnew διαθήκηςdiathēkēscovenant , τὸtowhich περὶperiabout πολλῶνpollōnmany . ἐκχυνόμενον.ekkhunomenonis poured out
25ἀμὴνamēnTruly λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou ὅτιhoti- , οὐκέτιouketi. . . οὐouvvv μὴvvv πίωpiōI will no longer drink ἐκekof τοῦtouthe γεννήματοςgennematosfruit τῆςtēsof the ἀμπέλουampelouvine ἕωςheōsuntil τῆςtēs- ἡμέραςhēmerasday ἐκείνηςekeinēsthat ὅτανhotanwhen αὐτὸautoit πίνωpinōI drink καινὸνkainonanew ἐνenin τῇthe βασιλείᾳbasileiakingdom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God . ”
26ΚαὶKaiAnd ὑμνήσαντεςhymnēsanteswhen they had sung a hymn , ἐξῆλθονexēlthonthey went out εἰςeisto τὸtothe ὄροςorosMount τῶνtōn- ἘλαιῶνElaiōnof Olives .
27ΚαὶKaiThen λέγειlegeisaid αὐτοῖςautoisto them , ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ὅτιhoti- ΠάντεςPantesvvv σκανδαλισθήσεσθεskandalisthēsesthe“ You will all fall away , ἐνenin ἐμοίemoiMe . ἐνento τῇthe νυκτὶnyktinight , ταύτῃtautē“ this ὅτιhoti- , ” γέγραπταιgegraptaiit is written : ΠατάξωPataxō‘ I will strike τὸνtonthe ποιμέναpoimenaShepherd , ΚαὶKaiand διασκορπισθήσονταιdiaskorpisthēsontaiwill be scattered .’ τὰtathe πρόβαταprobatasheep
28ἈλλὰAllaBut μετὰmetaafter τὸto- ἐγερθῆναίegerthēnaiI have risen , μεmeI προάξωproaxōwill go ahead of ὑμᾶςhymasyou εἰςeisinto τὴνtēn- ΓαλιλαίανGalilaianGalilee . ”

35ΚαὶKai- προελθὼνproelthōnGoing a little farther μικρὸνmikron. . . , ἔπεσενepesenfell ἐπὶepito πρόσωπονprosōpon. . . , ἐπὶepiaround τῆςtēsof γῆςgēsground καὶkaiand προσηύχετοprosēuchetoprayed ἵναhinathat , εἰeiif δυνατόνdynatonpossible , ἐστι,estiis παρέλθῃparelthēwould pass ἀπ’ap’from αὐτοῦautouHim . the ὥραhōrahour

37ΚαὶKaiThen ἔρχεταιerchetai[Jesus] returned καὶkaiand εὑρίσκειheuriskeifound αὐτοὺςautousthem καθεύδονταςkatheudontassleeping . καὶkai- λέγειlegeiHe asked τῷ- ΠέτρῳPetrō- . ΣίμωνSimōn“ Simon , καθεύδειςkatheudeisare you asleep ? ” οὐκouk“ vvv ἰσχύσατεischysateWere you not able μίανmianfor one ὥρανhōranhour ? γρηγορῆσαιgrēgorēsaito keep watch
38γρηγορεῖτεgrēgoreiteWatch καὶkaiand προσεύχεσθεproseuchesthepray ἵναhinaso that μὴvvv εἰσέλθητεeiselthēteyou enter εἰςeisinto πειρασμόνpeirasmontemptation . τὸtothe μὲνmenFor πνεῦμαpneumaspirit πρόθυμονprothymon[is] willing , the δὲdebut σὰρξsarxbody ἀσθενήςasthenēs[is] weak . ”

40καὶkaiAnd ὑποστρέψαςupostrepsasthey returned εὗρενheuren[and] found αὐτοὺςautousthem πάλινpalinagain καθεύδονταςkatheudontassleeping — ἦσανēsanwere γὰρgarfor οἱhoi- ὀφθαλμοὶophthalmoieyes αὐτῶνautōntheir καταβαρυνόμενοιkatabarynomenoiheavy . καὶkaiAnd οὐκoukvvv ᾔδεισανēdeisanthey did not know τίtiwhat ἀποκριθῶσινapokrithōsinto answer αὐτῷautōHim .
41ΚαὶKai[When] ἔρχεταιerchetai[Jesus] returned τὸtothe τρίτονtritonthird time , καὶkai- λέγειlegeiHe said αὐτοῖςautois- , ΚαθεύδετεKatheudeteAre you still sleeping λοιπὸνloipon“ vvv καὶkaiand ἀναπαύεσθεanapauestheresting ? ἀπέχειapecheiThat is enough ! ἦλθενēlthenhas come . 51ΚαὶKaiThen εἰςeisvvv τιςtisOne νεανίσκοςneaniskosyoung man ἠκολούθησενēkolouthēsenfollowed αὐτῷautōHim περιβεβλημένοςperibeblēmenoswas wearing σινδόναsindonaa linen cloth ἐπὶepiaround γυμνοῦgymnou[his body] . καὶkai- κρατοῦσινkratousinThey caught hold αὐτόνautonof him , οἱhoithe νεανίσκοι.neaniskoia young man
52ho- δὲdeNow καταλιπὼνkatalipōnhe pulled free τὴνtēnof the σινδόναsindonalinen cloth γυμνὸςgymnosnaked . ἔφυγενephygenand ran away ἀπ’ap’from αὐτὸνautonsame
53καὶkaiAnd ἀπήγαγονapēgagonThey led τὸνton- ἸησοῦνIēsounJesus {away} πρὸςprosto τὸνtonthe ἀρχιερέαarchiereahigh priest , καὶkaiand συνέρχονταιsynerchontaiassembled . αὐτῷautōHim πάντεςpantesall οἱhoithe ἀρχιερεῖςarchiereischief priests , καὶkai- οἱhoi- πρεσβύτεροιpresbyteroielders , καὶkaiand οἱhoi- γραμματεῖςgrammateisscribes
54καὶkai- ho- ΠέτροςPetrosPeter ἀπὸapoat μακρόθενmakrothena distance , ἠκολούθησενēkolouthēsenfollowed αὐτῷautōHim ἕωςheōsright ἔσωesōinto εἰςeisvvv τὴνtēnthe αὐλὴνaulēncourtyard τοῦtouof the ἀρχιερέωςarchiereōshigh priest . καὶkaiAnd ἦνēnvvv συγκαθήμενοςsugkathemenoshe sat μετὰmetawith τῶνtōnthe ὑπηρετῶνhypēretōnofficers καὶkaiand θερμαινόμενοςthermainomenoswarmed himself πρὸςprosby τὸtothe φῶςphōsfire .
55ΟἱHoithe δὲdeNow ἀρχιερεῖςarchiereischief priests καὶkaiand ὅλονholonwhole τὸtothe συνέδριονsynedrionSanhedrin ἐζήτουνezētounwere seeking κατὰkataagainst τοῦtou- ἸησοῦIēsouJesus μαρτυρίανmartyriantestimony εἰςeisto τὸto- θανατῶσαιthanatōsaiput Him to death αὐτόνauton. . . , καὶkaibut οὐχouchvvv ηὕρισκονhēuriskonthey did not find [any] .
56πολλοὶpolloimany γὰρgarFor ἐψευδομαρτύρουνepseudomartyrounbore false witness κατ’kat’against αὐτοῦautou[Jesus] , καὶkaibut ἴσαιisaiinconsistent . αἱhaitheir μαρτυρίαιmartyriaitestimony οὐκoukvvv ἦσανēsanwas
57ΚαίKaiThen τινεςtinessome [men] ἀναστάντεςanastantesstood up ἐψευδομαρτύρουνepseudomartyroun[and] testified falsely κατ’kat’against αὐτοῦautouHim λέγοντεςlegontes- :
58ὍτιHoti- ἩμεῖςHēmeis“ We ἠκούσαμενēkousamenheard αὐτοῦautouHim λέγοντοςlegontossay ὅτιhoti- , ἘγὼEgō‘ I καταλύσωkatalysōwill destroy τὸνton- ναὸνnaontemple , τοῦτονtoutonthis τὸνton- χειροποίητονcheiropoiētonman-made καὶkaiand διὰdiain τριῶνtriōnthree ἡμερῶνhēmerōndays ἄλλονallonanother [that is] ἀχειροποίητονacheiropoiētonmade without hands . ’” οἰκοδομήσωoikodomēsōI will build
59καὶkaiBut even οὐδὲoudevvv οὕτωςhoutōs- ἴσηisēinconsistent . ἦνēnwas - μαρτυρίαmartyriatestimony αὐτῶνautōntheir
60καὶkaiBut even ἀναστὰςanastasstood up hothe ἀρχιερεὺςarchiereushigh priest εἰςeisvvv τὸto- μέσονmesonbefore them ἐπηρώταepērōtaquestioned τὸνton- ἸησοῦνIēsounJesus λέγωνlegōn- , ΟὐκOuk“ vvv ἀποκρίνῃapokrinēHave You no answer οὐδένouden. . . ? τίtiWhat οὗτοίhoutoi{are} these [men] σουsouYou ? ” καταμαρτυροῦσινkatamartyrousintestifying against

62hothe δὲde- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus , εἶπενeipensaid ἘγώEgō“ I εἰμιeimiam , ” καὶkai“ and ὄψεσθεopsestheyou will see τὸνtonthe ΥἱὸνHuionSon τοῦtou- ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouof Man ἐκekat δεξιῶνdexiōn[the] right hand καθήμενονkathēmenonsitting τῆςtēsof δυνάμεωςdynameōsPower καὶkaiand ἐρχόμενονerchomenoncoming ἐπὶepiaround τὸνton- νεφελῶνnephelōnclouds τοῦtouof οὐρανοῦouranouheaven .”
63Hothe δὲdeAt this , ἀρχιερεὺςarchiereushigh priest διαρρήξαςdiarrēxastore τοὺςtous- χιτῶναςchitōnasclothes αὐτοῦautouhis λέγειlegei[and] declared , ΤίTi“ Why ἔτιetiany more χρείανchreiando we need ἔχομενechomen. . . μαρτύρωνmartyrōnwitnesses ?
64ἠκούσατεēkousateYou have heard παντὸςpantosall τῆςtēsthe βλασφημίαςblasphēmiasblasphemy . τίtiWhat ὑμῖνhyminis your φαίνεταιphainetaiverdict ? ” ΟἱHoi- δὲdeAnd πάντεςpantesthey all κατέκρινανkatekrinancondemned αὐτὸνautonHim εἶναιeinaias ἔνοχονenochondeserving θανάτουthanatouof death .
65ΚαὶKaiThen ἤρξαντόērxantobegan τινεςtinessome [of them] ἐμπτύεινemptyeinto spit on αὐτῷautōHim . καὶkai- περικαλύπτεινperikalypteinThey blindfolded Him τὸto. . . πρόσωπονprosōpon. . . , αὐτοῦautou. . . καὶkai- κολαφίζεινkolaphizeinstruck Him with their fists αὐτὸνauton. . . , καὶkaiand λέγεινlegeinsaid αὐτῷautōto Him , ΠροφήτευσονProphēteuson“ Prophesy ! ” ἡμῖνhēminfor us τιςtisvvv ἐστινestinis hothe παίσαςpaisashit σεseYou . ” καὶkai. . . . οἱhoi- ὑπηρέταιhypēretaiofficers ῥαπίσμασινrhapismasinwith slaps in His face . αὐτὸνautonHim ἔβαλονebalonby casting
66ΚαὶKaiWhile ὄντοςontoswas τοῦtou- ΠέτρουPetrouPeter κάτωkatōbelow , ἐνenin τῇthe αὐλῇaulēcourtyard ἔρχεταιerchetaicame down μίαmiaone τῶνtōnof the παιδισκῶνpaidiskōnservant girls τοῦtouof the ἀρχιερέωςarchiereōshigh priest
67καὶkaiand ἰδοῦσαidousasaw τὸνton- ΠέτρονPetron[him] θερμαινόμενονthermainomenonwarming himself [there] . ἐμβλέψασαemblepsasaShe looked at αὐτῷautō[Peter] λέγειlegei[and] said , ΚαὶKaialso σὺsy“ You μετὰmetawith τοῦtou- ἸησοῦIēsouJesus τοῦtouthe ΝαζαρηνοῦNazarēnouNazarene . ” ἦσθαēsthawere
68Ho- δὲdeBut ἠρνήσατοērnēsatohe denied [it] . λέγωνlegōnhe said . ΟὐκOuk“ vvv οἶδαoidaI do not know οὐδὲoudevvv ἐπίσταμαιepistamaiunderstand τίtiwhat σὺsyyou λέγειςlegeisare talking about , ” καὶkaiThen ἐξῆλθενexēlthenhe went ἔξωexōout εἰςeisto τὸtothe προαύλιονproauliongateway , ‹καὶkaiand ἀλέκτωρalektōrthe rooster ἐφώνησε.ephonese[and] called out
69‹καὶkaiand the παιδίσκηpaidiskēservant girl ἰδοῦσαidousasaw αὐτὸνautonhim πάλινpalinagain ἤρξατοērxato[and] λέγεινlegeinsaid to τοῖςtoisthose παρεστηκόσινparestekosinstanding by , ὅτιhoti- ΟὗτοςHoutos“ This [man] ἐξex[one] of αὐτῶνautōnthem . ” ἐστινestinis
70Ho- δὲdeBut ἠρνεῖτοērneitohe denied [it] ΚαὶKai- μετὰmetaAfter μικρὸνmikrona little while , πάλινpalinagain . οἱhoithose παρεστῶτεςparestōtesstanding nearby ἔλεγονelegonsaid τῷ- ΠέτρῳPetrōto Peter , ἈληθῶςAlēthōs“ Surely ἐξexone of αὐτῶνautōnthem , εἶeiyou are καὶkaivvv γὰρgarfor ΓαλιλαῖοςGalilaiosa Galilean .” εἶeiyou too are καὶkaivvv the λαλιάlaliaaccent σουsouYou ? ” ὁμοιάζει.omoiazeiabout
71Ho- δὲdeBut ἤρξατοērxato[and] ἀναθεματίζεινanathematizeinto curse καὶkaiand ὀμνύεινomnyeinswear [to them] ὅτιhoti- ΟὐκOuk“ vvv οἶδαoidaI do not know τὸνton- ἄνθρωπονanthrōponman τοῦτονtoutonthis ὃνhonof whom λέγετεlegeteyou speak ! ”
72καὶkaiAnd ἐκek- δευτέρουdeuteroua second time . ἀλέκτωρalektōr[the] rooster ἐφώνησε.ephonese[and] called out καὶkaiAnd ἀνεμνήσθηanemnēsthēremembered ho- ΠέτροςPetrosPeter τὸtothe ῥῆμαrhēmaword ho- εἶπενeipenhad spoken ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ὅτιhoti- ΠρὶνPrin“ Before ἀλέκτοραalektora[the] rooster φωνῆσαιphōnēsaicrows δὶςdistwice , ἀπαρνήσῃaparnēsēyou will deny μεmeMe τρίςtristhree times . ” καὶkaiAnd ἐπιβαλὼνepibalōnhe broke down ἔκλαιε.eklaie[and] wept .
