2Ho- δὲdeBut ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisHe replied εἶπενeipen. . . αὐτοῖςautois. . . , ὈψίαςOpsias“ When evening γενομένηςgenomenēscomes , λέγετεlegeteyou say , ΕὐδίαEudia‘ The weather [will be] fair , πυρράζειpyrrazeiis red , ’ γὰρgarfor hothe οὐρανόςouranossky
3καὶkaiand πρωΐprōiin the morning , ΣήμερονSēmeron‘ Today χειμώνcheimōn[it will be] stormy , πυρράζειpyrrazeiis red γὰρgarfor στυγνάζωνstygnazōn[and] overcast . ’ hothe οὐρανόςouranossky ὑποκριταίhypokritai[You] hypocrites ! τὸtothe μὲνmen- πρόσωπονprosōponappearance τοῦtouof the οὐρανοῦouranousky , γινώσκετεginōsketeYou know [how] διακρίνεινdiakrineinto interpret τὰtathe δὲdebut σημεῖαsēmeiasigns τῶνtōnof the καιρῶνkairōntimes . οὐounot δύνασθεdynasthe- γνῶναιgnōnai“ The knowledge
4γενεὰgeneageneration πονηρὰponēra[A] wicked καὶkaiand μοιχαλὶςmoichalisadulterous σημεῖονsēmeiona sign , ἐπιζητεῖepizēteidemands καὶkaibut σημεῖονsēmeionvvv οὐounone δοθήσεταιdothēsetaiwill be given αὐτῇautēit εἰeiexcept μὴ. . . τὸtothe σημεῖονsēmeionsign ἸωνᾶIōnaof Jonah . ” τοῦtouof the προφήτουprophētouthan a prophet . καὶkaiand καταλιπὼνkatalipōnHe left αὐτοὺςautousthem ἀπῆλθενapēlthen[and] went away .

6ho- δὲde- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἶπενeipentold αὐτοῖςautoisthem . ὉρᾶτεHorate“ Watch out ! ” καὶkai“ - προσέχετεprosecheteBeware ἀπὸapoof τῆςtēsthe ζύμηςzymēsleaven τῶνtōnof the ΦαρισαίωνPharisaiōnPharisees καὶkaiand ΣαδδουκαίωνSaddoukaiōnSadducees . ”
7ΟἱHoi- δὲde- διελογίζοντοdielogizontoThey discussed this ἐνenamong ἑαυτοῖςheautoisthemselves λέγοντεςlegontes[and] concluded , ὍτιHoti“ [It is] because ἌρτουςArtous[any] bread . ” οὐκoukvvv ἐλάβομενelabomenwe did not bring
8ΓνοὺςGnousAware [of their conversation] δὲde- ho- , ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἶπενeipensaid , αὐτοῖςautoisthem . ΤίTiwhy διαλογίζεσθεdialogizestheare you debating ἐνenamong ἑαυτοῖςheautoisyourselves ὀλιγόπιστοιoligopistoi“ [You] of little faith , ὅτιhotiabout ἄρτουςartousbread ? οὐκoukno ἐλάβετεelabeteyou gathered ?
9οὔπωoupōvvv νοεῖτεnoeiteDo you still not understand ? οὐδὲoudevvv μνημονεύετεmnēmoneueteDo you not remember τοὺςtousthe ἄρτουςartousloaves τῶνtōnfor the πεντακισχιλίωνpentakischiliōnfive thousand , καὶkaiand πόσουςposoushow many κοφίνουςkophinousbasketfuls ἐλάβετεelabeteyou gathered ?
10οὐδὲoude[Or] τοὺςtousthe ἑπτὰheptaseven ἄρτουςartousloaves τῶνtōnfor the τετρακισχιλίωνtetrakischiliōnfour thousand , καὶkaiand πόσαςposashow many σπυρίδαςspyridasbasketfuls ἐλάβετεelabeteyou gathered ?
11πῶςpōsHow οὐouvvv νοεῖτεnoeitedo you not understand ὅτιhotithat οὐouvvv περὶperiabout ἄρτωνartōnbread ? εἶπονeiponI was not telling you ὑμῖνhymin. . . προσέχεινprosecheinto beware ἀπὸapoof τῆςtēsthe ζύμηςzymēsleaven τῶνtōnused in ΦαρισαίωνPharisaiōnPharisees καὶkaiand ΣαδδουκαίωνSaddoukaiōnSadducees .
12ΤότεToteThen συνῆκανsynēkanthey understood ὅτιhotithat οὐκoukvvv εἰπὲeipesay προσέχεινprosecheinto beware ἀπὸapoof τῆςtēsthe ζύμηςzymēsleaven τοῦtouof ἄρτουartoubread . ἀλλ’all’but [by] ἈπὸApoFrom τῆςtēs- διδαχῆςdidachēsteaching τῶνtōnof the ΦαρισαίωνPharisaiōnPharisees καὶkaiand ΣαδδουκαίωνSaddoukaiōnSadducees .
13ἘλθὼνElthōncame δὲdeWhen ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἰςeisto τὰtathe μέρηmerēregion ΚαισαρείαςKaisareiasof Caesarea τῆςtēs- ΦιλίππουPhilippouPhilippi , ἠρώταērōtaHe questioned τοὺςtous- μαθητὰςmathētasdisciples αὐτοῦautouHis λέγωνlegōn- : ΤίναTina“ Who μεmeI λέγουσινlegousinsay οἱhoi- ἄνθρωποιanthrōpoi{do} people εἶναιeinaiis ? ” τὸνtonthe ΥἱὸνHuionSon τοῦtouof ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouMan
14ΟἱHoi- δὲde- εἶπονeiponI was not telling you οἱhoi- μὲνmen[say] ἸωάννηνIōannēnJohn τὸνtonthe ΒαπτιστήνBaptistēnBaptist ; ἄλλοιalloiothers [say] δὲde- ἨλίανĒlianElijah ; ἕτεροιheteroiothers , δὲdeand still ἸερεμίανIeremianJeremiah ēor ἕναhenaone τῶνtōnof the προφητῶνprophētōnprophets . ”
15ΛέγειLegei[Jesus] asked αὐτοῖςautois- . ὙμεῖςHymeisyou ? ” δὲde“ But [what about] τίναtina“ Who μεmeI λέγετεlegetedo you say εἶναιeinaiam ? ”
16ἈποκριθεὶςApokritheisanswered δὲde- ΣίμωνSimōnSimon ΠέτροςPetrosPeter εἰπὲeipesay ΣὺSy“ You εἶeiare hothe ΧριστὸςChristosChrist , hothe ΥἱὸςHuiosSon τοῦtouof ΘεοῦTheouGod . ” τοῦtouthe ζῶντοςzōntosliving
17καὶkaiand ἈποκριθεὶςApokritheisreplied ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἶπενeipen. . . αὐτῷautō. . . , ΜακάριοςMakarios“ Blessed εἶeiare you , ΣίμωνSimōnSimon ΒαριωνᾶBariōnason of Jonah ! ὅτιhotiFor [this] σὰρξsarx{by} flesh καὶkaiand αἷμαhaimablood , οὐκoukvvv ἀπεκάλυψέapekalupsewas not revealed σοιsoito you ἀλλ’all’but [by] ho- ΠατήρPatērFather μουmouMy ho- ἐνenin τοῖςtois- οὐρανοῖςouranoisheaven .
18κἀγὼkagōI δέdeAnd σοιsoiyou λέγωlegōtell ὅτιhotithat σὺsyyou εἶeiare ΠέτροςPetrosPeter , καὶkaiand ἐπὶepion ταύτῃtautēthis τῇ- πέτρᾳpetrarock οἰκοδομήσωoikodomēsōI will build μουmouMy τὴνtēn- ἐκκλησίανekklēsianchurch , καὶkaiand πύλαιpylai[the] gates ᾅδουhadouof Hades οὐouvvv κατισχύσουσινkatischysousinwill not prevail against αὐτῆςautēsit .
19καὶkaiand δώσωdōsōI will give σοιsoiyou τὰςtasthe κλεῖςkleiskeys τῆςtēsof the βασιλείαςbasileiaskingdom τῶνtōnof οὐρανῶνouranōnheaven . καὶkai- hoWhatever ἐὰνeanvvv δήσῃςdēsēsyou bind ἐπὶepion τῆςtēs- γῆςgēsearth ἔσταιestaiwill be δεδεμένονdedemenonbound ἐνenin τοῖςtois- οὐρανοῖςouranoisheaven , καὶkaiand howhatever ἐὰνean. . . λύσῃςlysēsyou loose ἐπὶepion τῆςtēs- γῆςgēsearth ἔσταιestaiwill be λελυμένονlelymenonloosed ἐνenin τοῖςtois- οὐρανοῖςouranoisheaven . ”
20ΤότεToteThen διεστείλατο*diesteilatoHe admonished τοῖςtoisthe μαθηταῖςmathētaisdisciples αὐτοῦautouHis ἵναhina- μηδενὶmēdeni. . . εἴπωσινeipōsinnot to tell anyone ὅτιhotithat αὐτόςautosHe ἐστινestinwas ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ‹ὁ›ho- ΧριστόςChristosChrist .
21ἈπὸApoFrom τότεtotethat time [on] ἤρξατοērxatobegan ‹ὁ›ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus δεικνύεινdeiknyeinto show τοῖςtois- μαθηταῖςmathētaisdisciples αὐτοῦautouHis ὅτιhotithat δεῖdeiHe must αὐτὸνauton. . . ἀπελθεῖνapeltheingo εἰςeisto ἹεροσόλυμαHierosolymaJerusalem καὶkaiand πολλὰpollamany things παθεῖνpatheinsuffer ἀπὸapoat the hands of τῶνtōnthe πρεσβυτέρωνpresbyterōnelders , καὶkai- ἀρχιερέωνarchiereōnchief priests , καὶkaiand γραμματέωνgrammateōnscribes , καὶkaiand ἀποκτανθῆναιapoktanthēnaithat He must be killed καὶkaiand τῇon the τρίτῃtritēthird ἡμέρᾳhēmeraday ἐγερθῆναιegerthēnaibe raised to life .
22ΚαὶKai- προσλαβόμενοςproslabomenostook Him aside αὐτὸνauton. . . ho- ΠέτροςPetrosPeter ἤρξατοērxato[and] began ἐπιτιμᾶνepitimanto rebuke αὐτῷautōHim . λέγωνlegōnhe said . ἽλεώςHileōs“ Far be it σοιsoifrom You , ΚύριεKyrieLord ! ” οὐou{shall} never μὴ. . . ἔσταιestaihappen σοιsoito You ! ” τοῦτοtouto“ This
23Ho- δὲdeBut στραφεὶςstrapheis[Jesus] turned εἰπὲeipesay τῷ- ΠέτρῳPetrōto Peter , ὝπαγεHypage“ Get ὀπίσωopisōbehind μουmouMe , ΣατανᾶSatanaSatan ! σκάνδαλονskandalona stumbling block μουmouMe , εἶeiYou are ὅτιhotiFor οὐouvvv φρονεῖςphroneisyou do not have in mind τὰtathe things τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God , ἀλλὰallabut τὰtathe τῶνtōnthings ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnof men . ”
24ΤότεToteThen ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἶπενeipentold τοῖςtois. . . μαθηταῖςmathētaisdisciples , αὐτοῦautouHis ΕἴEi“ If τιςtisanyone θέλειtheleiwants ὀπίσωopisōafter μουmouMe , ἐλθεῖνeltheinto come ἀπαρνησάσθωaparnēsasthōhe must deny ἑαυτὸνheautonhimself καὶkaiand ἀράτωaratōtake up τὸνton- σταυρὸνstauroncross αὐτοῦautouhis καὶkaiand ἀκολουθείτωakoloutheitōfollow μοιmoiMe .
25ὃςhoswhoever γὰρgarFor ἂνan. . . θέλῃthelēwants τὴνtēn- ψυχὴνpsychēnlife αὐτοῦautouhis σῶσαιsōsaito save ἀπολέσειapoleseiwill lose αὐτήνautēnit , ὃςhoswhoever δ’d’but ἂνan. . . ἀπολέσῃapolesēloses τὴνtēn- ψυχὴνpsychēnlife αὐτοῦautouhis ἕνεκενhenekenfor My sake ἐμοῦemou. . . εὑρήσειheurēseiwill find αὐτήνautēnit .
26τίtiWhat γὰρgar- ὠφελεῖταιōpheleitaidoes it profit ἄνθρωποςanthrōposa man ἐὰνeanif τὸνtonthe κόσμονkosmonworld , ὅλονholonwhole κερδήσῃkerdēsēhe gains τὴνtēn- δὲdeyet ψυχὴνpsychēnsoul ? αὐτοῦautouhis ζημιωθῇzēmiōthēforfeits ēOr τίtiwhat δώσειdōseigive ἄνθρωποςanthrōpos{can} a man ἀντάλλαγμαantallagmain exchange for τῆςtēs- ψυχῆςpsychēssoul ? αὐτοῦautouhis
27μέλλειmelleiwill γὰρgarFor hothe ΥἱὸςHuiosSon τοῦtouof ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouMan ἔρχεσθαιerchesthaicome ἐνenin τῇ- δόξῃdoxēglory τοῦtou- ΠατρὸςPatrosFather’s αὐτοῦautouHis μετὰmetawith τῶνtōn- ἀγγέλωνangelōnangels , αὐτοῦautouHis καὶkaiand τότεtotethen ἀποδώσειapodōseiHe will repay ἑκάστῳhekastōeach one κατὰkataaccording to τὴνtēn- πρᾶξινpraxinhas done . αὐτοῦautouwhat he
28ἈμὴνAmēnTruly λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , εἰσίeisiare τινεςtinessome τῶνtōnwho ὧδεhōdehere ἑστηκότωνhestēkotōnstanding οἵτινεςhoitines- οὐouvvv μὴvvv γεύσωνταιgeusōntaiwill not taste θανάτουthanatoudeath ἕωςheōsbefore ἂνan. . . ἴδωσιidosithey see τὸνtonthe ΥἱὸνHuionSon τοῦtou- ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouof Man ἐρχόμενονerchomenoncoming ἐνenin τῇ- βασιλείᾳbasileiakingdom . ” αὐτῷautōHim .
